Pedro the host couldn’t have shown his distaste for being there anymore than he did. It’s like we were bothering him by coming in. Amie the server was nice. Spoke very quietly, but nice. My guy Isaac in the back was all over the place doing everything. Give this dude a raise! Little cornbread and butter was good. As was the chili. The cheese curds were ok too. The wings, while good, were fried and there was nothing “smoked” about them. The brisket and fall off the bones ribs? Hell no. Sent them back. Both were very tough and had to use a fork to get the meat off the ribs. I’d say this place is lucky it’s the only joint in town, because if there was another they surely wouldn’t be busy.

Google
What an awesome find! Wonderful period decor outside and in. Immediately created by the host. 3-4 waitstaff taking care of a rapidly filling dining area. All the plates that were coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. Coffee refills on point. Our sever Kori was super friendly and engaging with recommendations and off lemur options and add ons. Staff helped each other out making the service smooth. Breakfast never waited under a heat lamp. When it was done the chef brought the meals to the table. The man eating next to us ordered the breakfast burrito, he said it was his second one in two days. It looked fantastic. Open until 10pm serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Google
Nice little place. Great atmosphere. Food is pretty good and recently priced. Nice staff. The only thing was that no one ever asked to refill our drinks at all but other than that it was a positive experience and will stop by when in area again.

Google
My friend and I were warmly welcomed in by I believe the hostess. Our waitress was very friendly, greeted us with a genuine smile. We ordered fried green beans to start they were fresh, crunchy, and delicious. My friend ordered the Dukes Burger looked/smelled wonderful, and tasted great! I ordered the Rio Lobo ribeye steak. It looked, smelled, and tasted amazing! Best ribeye I've had in years. Thick and cooked just right! Prices are very reasonable. I told my friend we will be returning at least once a month for one meal or another to try more! Thank you for the kindness! 🫶🏽🙌🏽❤️

Google
Had 2 excellent dinners (cornbread and honey butter delicious) and 1 breakfast at Dukes. Chicken fried steak, huge full rack of ribs left lunch for next day and breakfast one morning. Cheery efficient staff and down right good grub in fun atmosphere. And occasionally live music....

Google
Amazing food! Worth the trip for this experience. Friendly and welcoming staff. Don't miss out on trying the Duke's environment and food.

Google
This is a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere! The burgers were great and lunch was served even at dinner time. We’ve had bison burgers and a normal cheeseburger. I’ve never had bison before and this was a great experience! The meat was well seasoned and done very good. The flair is amazing and seems traditional. Whenever you happen to be here, Definetly stop by and get yourself some good food.

Fast, friendly and efficient. The decor is awesome. Food was good. Service was great. A must do if you are a John Wayne fan.

Yelp
I'm staying one of Duke's cabins just behind the restaurant. I had just arrived and didn't feel like making another sandwich for dinner so I had decided to order online. I ordered the Penne pasta w Alfredo sauce, which comes w a small cup of corn and a small salad, and ordered the coconut cream pie ala mode. I was pleasantly surprised. Hanksville is such a small town that sometimes you never know what you'll get in a town this size. Everything was actually delicious. The pasta had Parmesan cheese on top and a couple of pieces of garlic bread as well. The salad was fresh and came w croutons and your choice of dressing (can came w a side cup). The pie and ice cream was delicious as well. The next time you drive through Hanksville check this place out. The restaurant itself is laid back and has a small town feel. The guy that handed me my food was courteous. I will definitely go back for another meal, but different dishes.

Yelp
I'm a little late for this review. Visited the place a couple months ago on my roadtrip through Utah. After doing some off-roading in Hanksville we started looking for places to have dinner. This place popped up on yelp. Parking was easy to find. The host was friendly and showed us to our table. The ambiance is of a cozy western bar with lots of "the duke" (John Wayne) memorabilia. The service was fairly fast and the food was delicious. Specially liked the fried okra. Will be back here if we are in Hanksville again.

Yelp
Given that there are very few restaurants, and many were closed for the season, we were grateful to find an open place at 3pm. The brisket salad was ok. Seemed like an interesting offering but the brisket was dry. The baby back ribs were very good. Good buttery corn and garlic mash potato sides. My wine was eh. Apple pie ala mode seem good.

Kim H.

Yelp
Excellent John Wayne themed restaurant! The food and service were excellent. Like an oasis in the middle of nowhere! I had the McClintock.. the bbq sauce and brisket were so good. My partner had the cowboy stew with big chunks of steak and potato. All the food was fresh.

Tara C.

Yelp
Hanksville is usually just a town we stop in to get gas on our way to Lake Powell, but we ended up coming to Duke's for dinner! Everything was delicious! In fact, we have decided we will definitely make this an annual stop and enjoy a great meal at Duke's! Everything was so fresh and was made from scratch. Starting with the moist cornbread, ice cold water served in a tin cup, and so many different delicious entrées to choose from, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. This a hidden gem! Make it your pit stop!

Amy T.

Yelp
Nice spacious seating area for big groups. Service was good. I ordered the country fried steak very mild in flavor but filling. Decent portion sizes for breakfast. The pancakes were the best part of the meal came out warm and fluffy.

Chelsea W.

Yelp
We stopped in for breakfast. Never expected such a cute place, welcoming staff and service and tasty breakfast plates! I had two eggs fries, hash browns, English muffin and the best bacon of my entire camping trip! Will definitely stop in again when traveling through this area. Great John Wayne (and other novel trinkets)to enjoy too!

Selena N.

Yelp
As a pescatarian, I wasn't sure about eating here but it was the only place around. I was pleasantly surprised! I had the trout and mashed potatoes and a salad. All of it was so delicious. The glass of wine was as well, I wasn't thrilled about being charged $3 for soda water, but that's ok, I appreciated the great service and friendliness and in the end it was a great choice!

Nancy E.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch on our way thru to Capital Reef NP. They have sandwiches and dinner entrees. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with steak fries. It was ok. My husband got the fish with onion rings. In this area there isn't a lot to choose from we were pleased. The service was good as well

Dilan O.

Yelp
The three Dinners we ordered were all Revolting. The BBQ Chicken was disgusting and Slimey. The mashed potatoes were greasy and gummy. The brisket was Dry and Jerky. Do yourself a favor and go down to Torrey for better food options.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Finding gems in the middle of nowhere Utah is always a blessing. This place was absolutely amazing. I ordered breakfast. A basic platter with ham, eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Simple, classic and wonderful! The service was top notch. We had a nice older lady as our server and she was as sweet as can be. Prices were reasonable especially considering there's nothing much else in town to eat. What I also found cute was that they served the soda in campfire mugs, how neat!?!? Parking is fine, the place is attached to an RV park so you've got lots of people coming and going so make note of that. You must stop here if in the area visiting all the adventures that Utah has to offer!

Terry Z.

Yelp
Not a big selection in Hanksville but with Duke you don't need it !! We had breakfast " the Cowboy " and we where completely satisfied!! Great service and the decor is like stepping back in time, also there was old 50 and 60s country playing while we were eating. Go you won't be disappointed

Maryann H.

Yelp
Best, tenderest brisket ever!!! Our server Shandee was as terrific as the food so full had to take some homemade pie to go for later.

Forrest R.

Yelp
Awesome place to eat in hanksville. If you're passing through you need to stop. The cheese curds are top notch and I have not had one bad thing on the menu. It's also part of the campground / cabin area so it's even a great area to stop for the night and have some breakfast in the morning as well.

Koliata P.

Yelp
Fantastic food, great customer service, and great John Wayne vibe!! Absolutely love this place! Local favorite!!

Trevor B.

Yelp
Solid spot for after a long day at the trails nearby. I ordered the Hell's Keep Golden Ale. This was a great beer and they serve it with a frosted mug, which is always a plus. I went with the Duke's Burger and fries. This bad guy will definitely fill you up. Quality burger and lots of good toppings. The service was prompt and friendly. The venue is set up with a southern vibe and has live music on certain nights.

Brian S.

Yelp
Ordered pick up a few hours before close so my experience may be skewed. My meal wasn't anything special and they were also out of baked potatoes and baked beans. Staff was apologetic. There aren't many places in Hanksville so there's little competition. Hoping the meal you try is better than mine was.

Phillip C.

Yelp
Just ordered take out for two orders of the Desert Trail Taco ... one with chicken and the other with ground beef. Don't trust the menu on Yelp. Apparently they changed it last year and haven't bothered to have it updated. We got tacos with the chicken and beef, and not a lot of either, with nothing else. Apparently the new menu also gives you two of each. We got one of each ... but it does appear we paid less? Hardly what you could call a full meal. I would call this quite cheesy, except they didn't include the cheese. The onion rings were ok. When we went back there was no offer to make it good.

Willy G.

Yelp
I really like this site, and the short distance to Goblin Valley! Third visit to the Park, second stay at Duke's. I highly recommend the super-cute cabins and their amenities if you're not into roughing it. We ate at the restaurant for dinner last time, it was wonderful. This time we went for breakfast and were completely ignored after being seated. Several staff members walked by us, saw us, did not offer coffee or said, "we'll be with you in a moment." Nothing. I waited tables in Vegas for years, I know an understaffed disaster when I see one. We left after fifteen minutes. The office staff is wonderful, and knowledgeable of the area. But not having someone there before 3:00pm is a bit odd. The television in the room was a nightmare to figure out. We tried multiple times to get simple news, national and/or local. The remote control was very confusing, and there were no instructions on the table. We gave up on the second day. Other than that, it's a wonderful place. They are adding on, Hanksville itself is slowly growing, and hopefully there will be more convenient stores in the area. When we booked the trip, the web site demanded a $250 nonrefundable deposit to have a dog in the cabin, which is outrageous! So, we found a sitter and sadly left the dog at home. The desk clerk informed me UPON ARRIVAL that it was a misprint. We could have had our dog with us the whole time! Fix your advertising!!

Tanaz H.

Yelp
The chicken fried steak has ground beef instead of steak. The smoked chicken wings aren't smoked because " they might have gotten new ones" !!! Nothing was inedible, but it wasn't good either. Also had to ask for soda refill a few times. So not great service either.

Yelp
Was coming back home from Lake Powell and stopped off Here at Duke's Slickrock Grill for lunch. It was actually pretty good. I got the Trout Nothing too extravagant. I have to say my trout was cooked perfectly, moist and flaky. The waitress was good and answered my questions. She was friendly and the food came out quick. If you are in Hanksville stop by and grab a bite to eat you won't be disappointed. Atmosphere was quite cozy.

Nathan L.

Yelp
Driving by saw the sign saying trout! Dropped in was greeted immediately with humor. Seating was quick and service was pleasant. Wife order the trout dinner and she loved it, very juicy and delicious. I had the pulled pork sandwich with steak fries. Very good portions sizes. The ambiance is very southwestern, even has John Wayne tending bar.

Paul C.

Yelp
There's not much out here by Goblin Valley, Duke's is one of just a couple restaurants in town. Well it turned out to be a great spot. American comfort food for sure, plenty of red meat and such on the menu. The waitress was super nice and went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. We had the place to ourselves at lunch, but the food came out looking like the kitchen was doing great. We ordered ice tea and when we were leaving she brings us out cups to go. I definitely recommend Duke's Slickrock Grill, John Wayne would love this place.

Kat B.

Yelp
Quite pleased with our lunch stop at Duke's. Not a whole lot of options when traveling between Arches and Capitol Reef. We were greeted and seated promptly. Had great service. And enjoyed our lunch of BLT and brisket sandwich. The onion rings were disappointing and the coleslaw was pretty sloppy with an unfocused flavor. But we loved how the tin mugs kept our water and soda super cold.

Lynn H.

Yelp
We stopped for dinner after hiking all day and was thrilled to see them opened after 9. The food was absolutely delicious, I would definitely recommend the bbq, we tried a variety of bbq options and they were all great. The fried green beans were a definite treat. My son got the pasta and he loved it. Nice selection of local beers was a plus. It was so good and our server Kori was great, that we stopped in for breakfast the next day. That was very good as well.

Hannah B.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great vibe! Brisket and pulled pork tacos were AMAZING! This place was clean and everything was just great!

Yelp
Awesome environment to be in! Love the theming inside the restaurant. Food was delicious and the service was fast.

Linda B.

Yelp
Awesome food great group of people who work here. Would go here again. Worth the drive or stoping by on your way through. Most of it is home and a personal r Touch with it. Barbecue sauce rocks.

Avery S.

Yelp
This place has the kindest service, delicious food, and a fun atmosphere! This is a must-stop on your way to Capitol Reef. I had a delightful experience and recommend to all.

Ming L.

Yelp
Everything are great !The environment is very American, quiet and warm, and the food is fresh and delicious. The service is cordial and attentive.

Carol D.

Yelp
Stopped on our way through Utah. Didn't expect such excellent food but I'll sure recommend this place. I had the pulled pork tacos, absolutely delicious. Spouse had the club which also was big and very good. Nice service and a great place for food.

Nate B.

Yelp
Shared some tasty ribs and brisket with friends last night. For dessert: had the homemade cheesecake - it was the best I've had in a long time! Rod was strumming the guitar and singing, he is a great performer and adds so much to the atmosphere.

Curt D.

Yelp
Great food, the staff & owners are super friendly, and the decor fits perfectly in with the location. A great place to relax for a meal.

Mark P.

Yelp
The quality and personality of the waitstaff can really add to a meal, and our waiter at Dukes (it was our second visit as we made it a must revisit on our second Utah National Parks Road Trip) was delightful and personable. We came in slightly frozen from high winds and low temps in Goblin Valley on a Saturday night and were expecting crowds, but Hanksville, UT isn't exactly a Big City. The light crowd allowed us to have a great conversation with our waiter. The chili served as a included first course was excellent, and actually ordered chicken-fried steak with white gravy for the first time in my life and thoroughly enjoyed it withe a Polygamy Porter.

Amy R.

Yelp
Cute, spacious cabin. Comfortable, clean, and great location! I liked the little decor details, too. Had what we needed for an overnight stay- microwave, fridge, table for eating, cute porch... We checked in late and keys were taped on office for us. Easy-peasy! (Would have been helpful if porch light were left on, especially since the recent flooding created wet, muddy area near parking we could have avoided had light been on.) We called about ice and was told to get a bag from restaurant. Unfortunately, the young woman wasn't informed and didn't seem flexible or helpful getting us ice for our water bottles. I definitely would stay again!

Pasword P.

Yelp
Great food and nice and fast service! The decorations are also super cool and make it definitely feel homey and western.

Char O.

Yelp
Stopped by Duke Slickrock Grill after a day of exploring and boy were we disappointed. We ordered the Hondo with mashed potatoes. The chicken was tough and did not taste like chicken (not sure what it tastes like, but definitely not chicken) and the mashed potatoes were pretty bad too. We were there late so maybe we got the bottom of the barrel for the night, but still... There were three places open when we arrived, Dukes Slickrock Grill, Outlaw's Roost and Stan's Burger Shak. Since we had mexican for lunch we decised Outlaw's Roost was not an option; however, next time we are in Hanksville Outlaw's Roost will be the only option (sine Dukes Slickrock Grill and Stan's Burger Shak have the same owner).

Imbri S.

Yelp
We have become so conditioned to our masks in New Mexico that to be greeted by unmasked restaurant staff at our first stop in Utah was jarring. More disconcerting was being advised that to use the outside tables behind the main dining room, we would have to make a to-go order because the dining room could not serve the exterior seating. Having the option between access to the bathrooms for handwashing and waiting outside to order by phone, pick up our food, and then eating it outside, we opted to risk unmasking and eat at the carefully distanced tables. The staff was professional and friendly, and the dining room immaculately clean. Raz ordered the ribeye, and I chose the New York strip. His medium and my medium-rare were perfect examples of the specifications. The meat itself was not quite tender, however, and we were pretty sure that not even salt and pepper were added for spice before grilling, so we applied these liberally at the eating. The portions were sizable, and my side-salad was one of the best I've ever had at a steakhouse. The mixed greens were flavorful, the tiny tomatoes sweet and crisp, and the sprinkling of finely grated cheese just the right touch of sharpness. Raz's Cowboy Stew was truly excellent beef and vegetable stew, and my mashed potatoes were wonderfully seasoned with butter and herbs, needing no gravy. The final bit of garnishing, two fat asparagus stalks on each steak, was tender and had that cut-fresh-this-morning flavor. It was an all-around solidly good experience, and if we find ourselves back in this area of Utah again soon, we will likely go back.

Beth Y.

Yelp
I wanted to give it a 3 1/2. We stopped on our way to Moab for a quick burger. It was OK, and a little pricey at $l8. The waitress was very friendly, but we would probably not return.

Chase S.

Yelp
the food is so mid they give good appetizers but most of the food was very bad and not enjoyable don't come and pay 30 dollars for this bullshit

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Our bus load of 40 people descended on this area to eat and be back to the bus in less than 1 hour. 10 of us came to Duke's, I asked what were the fastest-to-make-items, Ryan comes out, gives us the rundown, and proceeds to be the most wonderful server. He was funny, friendly, super organized at getting our meals and checks to us (we were all separate checks!) The food came out unbelievably quickly, as we had to hustle to eat, then get back on the bus, and everyone in the group (having ordered different items) said everything was delicious. I had the Smoked Cobb salad with brisket and it was terrific. The food was definitely delicious but Ryan (saved the day!) was the REAL star.

Jesus F.

Yelp
Pedro our server was very nice and would always check up on us. Food was great! Blue steel breakfast is the way to go. Ambient was nice as well quiet.

Lauren A.

Yelp
The food was great! Tasty burgers and fries. Service was not great despite there only being 3 couples dining. It was a good place to eat but took too long to be waited on.

Susan M.

Yelp
We loved everything we got there. We had the wings, the onion rings, and a turkey sandwich. Everything was stellar except for the "cornbread" which was actually a buttermilk biscuit. Wouldn't hesitate to eat anything made there again.

Katy J.

Yelp
(I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could) First off the ambiance of this place is awesome. You really get the small town country atmosphere. I loved all the country decor. The bathroom was spacious and spotless, which was a major plus for me since we needed to get sand and dirt out of our eyes and faces after how windy it was at Goblin Valley. They had a great menu selection. My hubs went with the Texas Cyclone Burger which he thought was first rate. I nabbed a bite and it was delish with some great flavors dancing everywhere and a great punch of house made BBQ sauce. Mine was The Conqueror. Everything was flavored well and hot. I loved the pretzel bun. It gave it a nice chewiness to each bite. Allowing me to savor each bite a little longer. They bring you out fry sauce which is a must in my book. Staff was pleasant and kind. Food was hot and served quick. Waitress even was nice enough to rummage up some food for my toddler whose allergic to everything. Would eat here again for sure. Would definitely recommend to friends traveling through.

Jennie Z.

Yelp
What a find. Just passing through the town on our way to Goblin Valley and felt peckish. We got the Duke burger and the beef brisket burger, with sides of cornbread, beef tomato soup, and salad. Everything on point. Happy times. The cinnamon butter, homemade ranch, and homemade BBQ sauce, were also top notch. Now time to go on a digestive hike before the food coma hits. Wish me luck.

Darlene H.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much from the outside. Don't keep driving! I had the Nachos smothered in Brisket and my partner had 1/2 rack of Ribs. Food was fabulous, service was excellent. Don't pass by.

Russ M.

Yelp
Stopped at Dukes for a late lunch. I got the BBQ Brisket Salad and it was delicious. My wife got the Cobb salad and she also said it was great. A nice place to stop if ever in Hanksville Utah.
