Had fantastic dinner. From starter to desert everything was delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Restaurant itself was nicely decorated. Reservation well in advance is recommended.

Overall good experience. The staff were really lovely, attentive & were helpful in changing our booking (there was a family health emergency so we were really delayed making it to Skye). Nice atmosphere. Our starters & mains were good but found dessert was quite basic. Also, the Caramelised onion soup for starter was nothing special. I would give 4 star over 5 as I think for what it is, it is overpriced. £21 for Fish & Chips, £29 for duck. Which is similar, if not higher to price points of The Ivy Restaurants in London. The banana crumble was good, however, small for £9 a portion. I found the Sticky Toffee a bit dry/plain and the ice cream quite basic (which the menu states comes as 3 scoops, so you end up paying £7.50 for ice cream). For parking, there is limited space directly outside the hotel/restaurant, so I would factor in time to find a parking spot when arriving.

Google
Really disappointing experience. I'd booked this for our final night in Skye, hoping for a dining experience that matched the prices. Service was scant. We saw other tables receive the kind of service I'd expect, with detailed explanation of food, careful attention and engagement. We were sat in a dark corner, given menus and left to our own devices. There was no interaction, no sense that we were anything other than three customers to be processed. We ordered wine which wasn't brought until we asked for it a second time, and well after our main courses arrived. I had to ask for cutlery (no hardship, but not what I'd expect in a restaurant that styles itself as offering "an unforgettable dining experience"). There was a definite sense that the team needed much more support and training to be able to do their jobs. We were compensated for the delayed wine, which was appreciated - but again we had to remind the team that this had been offered. There was no apology from any of the waiting staff, or the restaurant manager - just the bar manager who was exceptionally busy and the only member of the team who had any sense of how to make customers feel welcome. Dulse and Brose need to either improve service or offer a less elevated menu - the prices imply a much better experience than is given. We stayed only because I know restaurants in Portree are hopelessly oversubscribed, but honestly I wish we'd grabbed fish and chips and eaten them on the harbour wall.

Delicious food served in a beautiful restaurant. I loved every bite of the food we had. They change their menu season wise, so do look out for that. We were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional hospitality. Don’t miss it.

Google
Ok, but overall underwhelming. The beef burger was genuinely nice, though both of the pies we had were just ok, each served barely warm, with the token pastry lids (nice, crisp and flaky) perched on top. The chicken and leek pie at least was a hearty serve, and the chicken breast was cooked well and broke up nicely to mix with the sauce and vegetables, however there was no real taste to speak of. The Crofter's pie was however disappointing in every way, portion, temperature and flavour. The staff were lovely and polite, though clearly quite busy with a full restaurant. I'd definitely pick something else rather than go again.

We ate around 5pm after the restaurant had opened. All the staff in the restaurant were lovely and in general the food was good. We had the lamb shank which was nice but we also ordered the Sole which was very expensive for what you get… a small fillet. Everything was tasty but would say that there are far better options for good food with a better value for money on the island.

Google
Overpriced for the portion you are getting. Dessert were 9£ each with a cookie and a scoope of ice cream. I had the sole , which was delicous, but my partner’s Sunday’s roast was so-so, potatoes are dried and under seasoned. The Skye beer I ordered wasn’t cold enough. I like the tartan cushion at the seats and layout of restaurant. We found ourselves wanting to eat more food elsewhere after the meal.

We visited the restaurant for a special birthday dinner for my partner, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect evening. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive – he had clearly prepared in advance and even brought candles for the birthday dessert, which was such a thoughtful touch. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was exceptional. What more could you ask for? A truly memorable experience – we’ll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Enjoyed our visit to Dulse and Brose, the restaurant in the Bosville hotel. The staff were friendly, polite, and prompt. I appreciated that the server gave my husband a whiskey recommendation as he is new to whiskey. A sweet ambiance - I liked the flowers on the tables and the paper placemats with maps of Skye. I ordered the mussels which were divine, and large for an appetizer, and the smoked salmon appetizer. My husband had the salmon, which was on the small side but came with a cream sauce in a little pitcher to pour over. I would recommend this cozy spot. As others have mentioned, ensure that you have a reservation as they do get booked out.

Yelp
Nice restaurant in Portree. Small and quaint. Menu isn't anything outrageous which is nice, makes it easier to pick from. We ordered the venison loin, Shepard pie, and mussels. All very good. Venison was very tender. Unique take on Shepards pie as well. The place only has beer, wine, and spirits, no cocktails, but the bar attached can make you an after dinner cocktail. Bar connected is pretty cool too.

Yelp
We ate dinner at this restaurant and it was packed with people, primarily Americans. It's essential that you have reservations. They were turning away people who showed up without reservations. Parking is difficult but not impossible to find. Inside, the restaurant is modern. We were greeted by a waiter and shown to a table. I ordered the lamb burger and my wife ordered the wester ross salmon filet. Our meals came in around 15 minutes and looked great. The burger came with chips and a small serving of special cole slaw. The salmon was served on a bed of mashed potatoes and kale, and then topped with Hollandaise sauce. We felt both meals were excellent. We would recommend this restaurant. Just be sure to make reservations weeks in advance.

Yelp
Tough time of year to get reservations in Portree, but as hotel guests, they squeezed us in. (Restaurant is located inside the hotel) Good menu and some excellent cocktails courtesy of The Merchant, the pub next door. The Sole Meunière was excellent and left nothing to be desired. The burger was hearty and the fries were as expected, meaning hot, crispy and fresh. The beet slaw was disappointing and flavourless. Dessert was available, but we skipped it based solely on having had large meals earlier in the day. The hotel breakfast was also prepaid here and their selection was excellent. Service for the 3 meals was timely and friendly. Fully recommend!

Yelp
Stellar seafood restaurant with great views of Portree. Seafood is super fresh and comes in many forms. The seafood platter is the best seller menu item, and I can completely understand why. You get about 6 different types of seafood in portions of 2 which are generous and delicious to eat with their artisan bread. They also have rotating seasonal specials, all of which are fresh and unique to establishment. Almost all of the food is locally sourced within the area. Services is also great and seating is abundant. Reservations here are must, especially because of the accommodations frequent here for all meals. I will definitely be back here again when I am in the area.

Yelp
Subpar food and obnoxious hostess. My wife and I came for dinner this past Saturday and, despite having a 7:00 P.M. reservation, they made us wait for about a half hour while we both stared at a nearby empty table. No apologies or updates from the hostess were forthcoming. As for the food, I had the lamb burger and my wife had the salmon. Both dishes were completely overdone and lacked any seasoning. Service was aloof the entire meal. Suffice to say, we will not be going back.

Yelp
We had a 7:30pm reservation for a Friday evening table. We were staying at the Cuillin Hills hotel and while walking over, someone in our party slipped and required a bandaid from the hotel. We walked back and phoned the restaurant to let them know we would be 5 minutes late. We did arrive at the restaurant at 7:35pm and then proceeded to wait until 8pm until we were finally shown a table at the very back end of the restaurant. We ordered a soup of the day (tomato and basil), salad, steak, branzino and the chicken special. The starters came out in about 20 minutes. The salad was good - apples, blue cheese, tart dressing. Unfortunately, the soup was monotonous and bland. No flavor at all and nothing to cut through the acidity. Just tasted as though someone blended a can of San Marzano tomatoes and added a pinch of salt. And then the waiting game began - 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, finally 60 minutes after our starters, the entrees came out. The chicken was fine, but was really just a small deconstructed puff pastry dish. Steak was standard - but again no seasoning or flavor at all. Fish was really disappointing. A full branzino without the head and tail, but not deboned. It was hard seared on both sides so you couldn't really remove the bones without butchering the fish. We left nearly all of the fish. We tried to get the attention of servers to ask for salt, pepper, complain about the fish, but were just met with "give me a second and I'll be right there." Except there was no right there. No one ever came and we proceeded to wait there another 20 minutes. As it was nearly 10pm at this time, we got up and went to the front of the restaurant. We asked whether the restaurant expected payment for this debacle of meal and were met with blank stares and the check. No surprise, a 10% service charge was already added to the bill. My impression - extremely overrated and not worth it. Head down the street to "The View" at the Cuillin Hills Hotel. We had much better food and infinitely better service.

Yelp
Nice dinner here. A few good vegetarian options. The soup of the day was excellent, They make their own bread, which was great. Good service. But reservations are necessary. A nice environment for a hotel restaurent.

Yelp
We were there for dinner and are extremely happy that we did. The service was wonderful; John our waiter was both knowledgeable about the food and very entertaining as well. Speaking of food, every course was fantastic. We had Cream of Cauliflower soup and they had to be the creamiest soup I've ever had in my life, it was like it had been whipped! for our main, Soy glazed chicken and then an extremely flavorful raspberry tart for dessert.

Yelp
We were super lucky to get a reservation for the same night. They are shorthanded and a little slow but the ambience is great. The waiters were super nice guys. And the food was amazing. We got the seafood platter appetizer and it was huge. Everything on it was really good. We were full after that and we still had food coming. I had the sweet potato tagine which was good even though I was already stuffed. And my husband had fish and chips, which was giant! I couldn't resist a dessert menu, and even though I was ready to pop I had an amazing dessert. We also loved their drinks.

Yelp
This was one of the best, if not the best, meals I've had in my life. The smokiness of the added was a perfect balance to the mild white fish. The pinot grigio was the perfect complement. The orange and vanilla pannacotta was creamy and the locally sourced berries were heavenly. This place has great, attentive and friendly staff.

Yelp
Amazing local seafood! Me and my husband made reservations here while on vacation on the island. We were a little early so we got a drink and the bar next door while they figured out our reservation. The restaurant was cozy and the service was okay for how short staffed they seemed. We ordered the seafood platter from the starter menu and were blown away! The platter included the most amazing smoked mussels, two kinds of salmon, smoked scallops, herring, and shrimp. Everything tasted so fresh and we loved the flavors. The board also came with delicious bread and fresh butter. For a main we opted to share the pork schnitzel after feasting on the seafood and it was quite good. The pork was fried well but still very tender and paired well with the goat cheese and beet salad. We also ordered the chocolate toffee cake for dessert which was amazing and came with a scoop of ice cream. Overall some of the best seafood I've had.

Yelp
I had dinner at this popular restaurant where it is highly recommended to have reservation in advance. I was staying at the hotel the Bosville where this restaurant is located and was pleased that the hotel had reached out to me prior to my arrival to help me reserve a table. The service of both the hotel and the restaurant was excellent. I ordered a soup of today which was a squash soup that had a tint of curry and cumin taste to me. I wasn't sure that I liked it very much since I am not a curry fan but it was a great way to warm me up before the main course. I had the Atlantic cod that came with potatoes and vegetables, and would have rated it perfect had the cod was not a little too salty for my taste. I came back for breakfast as it was included as part of the room. The server brought me a continental platter immediately after I was seated. For the cooked-to-order meal I had the Scottish breakfast, which came with haggis and an interesting potato scone that I thought was a savory pancake. The poached egg that I selected was nicely done so overall it was a very filling and enjoyable meal.

Yelp
Reservations are essential and parking can be difficult. With a reservation we were seated quickly. Service was great and the staff very friendly and accommodating. The food is good, not great. The duck starter was very good. It was a confit leg and a fritter. She isn't a fan of duck and I had to take it away from her so I could have some. I had salmon with chive hollandaise which was heavy and far too peppery; it overpowered the flavor of the salmon. The potatoes and baby broccoli were quite good. She had the lamb burger which was apparently chopped rather than ground. That, combined with a very crispy crust, made it difficult to cut since she didn't want the bread. The flavor was not bad, but a bit salty (no, she didn't add salt). Chips were very good.

Yelp
Our food was absolutely amazing here the two nights we ate here. We had the best meals and drinks. I will say, the service was a bit lackluster especially the first night. Unfortunately I think they are understaffed and it took forever for us to actually order, get drinks, & get food. Despite the service, we did have great food and the atmosphere is really nice! They were also super accommodating for my gluten free (celiac disease) diet! Which I was very grateful for. I highly suggest eating here if you're staying in Portree!

Yelp
Inaccurate hours-- not open for lunch. We drove into Portree specifically to go to this restaurant based on bad Yelp and Google information.

Yelp
Quite tasty food and pleasant ambience! Some of the staff were a bit brusque but also kind.

Yelp
Arrived in Portree without dinner reservations- apparently a serious no-no - but we were lucky enough to walk right into Dulse & Btose. We were told that the restaurant needed the table back in 90 minutes- no worries as we are decisive eaters! The gin and tonics were brought quickly, the butternut squash soup was tasty and the seafood salad was good. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Tables are spaced out and the decor is charming, definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Great bar and restaurant. Fresh and upscale in tired portree. Friendly service. Far better than other in-town options.

R J.

Yelp
Stopped by here almost by accident. So much is closed in the tourist "off season". The food was great, and the service even better! My wife had the pumpkin and sweet potato turine and asked to make sure there were no gluten containing ingredients, and the just brought her a bunch of gluten free bread. The waitress talked to us about the area and where we'd been as long as we wanted. Great place and the food was excellent.

Yelp
I really liked our meal here. Service was prompt and efficient. I had the fish chowder, which was filled with moist pieces of local fish in a tomato and fennel broth. It was fresh and delicious. For my entree, I had grilled halloumi and inhaled it, it was so good. They have a large drink menu and hubs was happy to find Punk IPA by BrewDog, too. He had duck which he enjoyed, as well. A nice option if in Portree...but if you go during the summer months, get a reservation or you may be out of luck.

Yelp
The meal was good, not great, but the service was overwhelmed, really taking away from it. I realize with the pandemic it's very tough on restaurants, which is why I didn't give a lower score, but this was the worst service I've had during a 2 week trip in Scotland (and everyone dealing with the pandemic). My starter was cured salmon, which was a very generous portion but the taste was unimaginative. The main was excellent, oatmeal coated cod. Nice flavor to it. The food would have been a high 4/low 5 but the service was challenging. They forgot our water and my daughters milk after ordering (we got our 2 other drinks). Once served, not only wasn't checked on but impossible to catch a server for some more water. When our table was finally bussed, asked for the bill but after 15 mins had to hunt down a different server to get the bill (and wait another 5-10 mins to get the credit card reader). These service snafus really took away from the meal.

Jenni M.

Yelp
Overall, I would rate the food here as a 4 but the service as like a 2. Our table tried several appetizers, all quite good. One was a wild mushroom on toast and that one was delicious and unique. My husband ordered a steak, which came with roast potatoes and veggies and was good. This is a bit of a pricier restaurant, which is nice every once in awhile but, when spending more it would be nice if the service matched. If you know you usually need your water refilled you might as well ask for extra when they take your order because good luck seeing them again. Ditto on other drinks. Also, we had to wait quite awhile to be able to pay, which they then said they would charge it to a room (fine), but then when we got up and were leaving someone stopped the last member of our party and made them pay using their credit card, so that was confusing as we were ready to pay the first time we asked about it. If I were to return to Portree I would probably try another restaurant before returning here, as there are a variety of options at different price points within the area.
google avatar

Kristin Y.

Yelp
Really good! We didn't have any appetizers, but the bread with seaweed butter was delectable. The seaweed butter sounded like it might be strange, BUT, it was perfect. Salty and a bit of the sea infused into the butter. I had the scallops, which was served with some mixed vegetables and a onion / veg broth. The scallops were buttery and perfectly cooked, and the sauce was delicate and not overpowering. There was also some pork belly (yum!) but it did not overtake the scallops flavor. My hubs had the whole lemon sole which he liked, but was a bit more trouble to finish the bottom filets without accidentally eating some bone! We were full and didn't have dessert but I would have loved to try the sticky toffee pudding.

Yelp
Best tasting salmon and cod I've had in years. Don't miss this one!!! The mater de/ owner is fabulous scotsman..

Yelp
We stayed in the hotel here and ate dinner at the restaurant twice. They have several vegetarian options on the menu and also created a great salad for me that wasn't on the menu! Everything was good including dessert and the wine!

Mike S.

Yelp
Fantastic service and chef does amazing things with the salmon and smoked cod! Great meal and friendly people!

Rebecca P.

Yelp
The restaurant is fine if you cannot get a table at Chuchullin, but it not nearly as good. My server and hostess put on airs that the food and experience did not warrant. My main was fish on a purée of something sweet (carrot?) that wasn't warm and covered all the veg. Not good. I mentioned it to the server who said it's not normally like that. The person who brought me bread was charming and I saw another server who seemed normal. I had dinner at Chuchullin the night before - down to earth and possibly the best salmon I've ever had (I live on a coast) for about the same cost.

Katie L.

Yelp
The experience here was fantastic! It's one of those places where everything on the menu is delicious and well done. The menu is not extensive but everything we ordered was amazing. We ordered the seafood stew, scallops and pork belly, duck, and strawberry and sticky toffee puddings. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone in Portree and would come back if I ever visit again!

Martin M.

Yelp
Very delicious, good quality food. The atmosphere here is cozy and relaxing. Service is friendly and helpful. Would come back on next visit to Portree. Reservations recommendation

Christina G.

Yelp
I think we should change this to Five Stars. We have been traveling around Scotland this past and this is the best so far. Presentation great, good selection and great taste. Price reasonable considering the quality of service and the food

Phyl D.

Yelp
The food itself was amazing and deserves 4.5/5 stars but the 2 stars are due to service! We walked in with a reservation and after being seated, it took 10 minutes before we were served water. We asked for menus and were told the maitre d would have to bring the menus to us. Another 10 minutes goes by and we are finally brought menus by the maitre d. We asked for the drink menu and he literally walked by them numerous times on his way to do other things and as we were about to walk next door to the bar to grab our own drinks he walked up with the menu. If your maitre d is responsible for menu delivery and ordering he should be checking on customers regularly and not leave them waiting for twenty minutes to order food and drinks. The servers who brought our food were very kind and apologetic, however we had to get up from our table to ask to be closed out because no one came to collect the bill for payment.

Robert D.

Yelp
Actually, the food was excellent - 4.5 stars - unfortunately, the service, really the maitre d, is the problem. We were seated promptly for our reservation. However, it took 20 mins to get menus. A server brought us water and when I asked for a menu, she replied that the maitre d would bring it to us. I could literally see the menus on a shelf... I would have left (and was just before leaving), but in Portree it would have meant a 9:45 dinner elsewhere. When the maitre d brought us the menu it did not include the wine list...another 10 minutes. After taking our order and turning us over to the serving staff, things improved. Although, it took too long to get our check. Bottom line - great food, very poor service.

Jeff P.

Yelp
Had an awesome experience here. Waiters suggestions hit the mark!! We loved everything. Have to say this is the best restaurant in town.

David R.

Yelp
Scallops prepared perfectly with 3 different sauces. Salmon cooked just right with a little too much salt. Decaf cappuccino the best I've had in weeks. Attentive service. No reservations but only a 10 min wait.
