On the Grid : Dumpling and Noodle House

"This hole-in-the-wall dumpling house has some seriously good, seriously cheap dumplings. Seating is limited with about eight tables inside and just one or two outside. The owner is always a friendly face and even though it’s small, you’ll not feel like you’re being rushed. The pan fried crispy dumplings are firm favourite with the steamed dumplings coming in a close second." - Squad Ink

Absolutely love Dumpling and Noodle House! The homemade dumplings are incredible—fresh, juicy, and packed with flavor. You can really taste the quality and care in every bite. The wrappers are perfectly soft yet hold together well, and the fillings are generous and well-seasoned. The menu has a great variety too, and everything feels authentically made from scratch. Definitely one of the best spots for dumplings in town. Highly recommend for a cozy, satisfying meal.

Ordered fried rice. Chef must have had a bad day. No sauce, tasted burnt and barely any chicken.

My Granny and I are visiting Sydney, staying conveniently across the road from here. We got the Crispy Eggplant for entree, then shared the Panfried Vegetarian dumplings and Steamed Kingprawn dumplings (our favourite). The food was divine, we felt very full after - would maybe skip entree next time as mains were plenty for 2. The service was incredible, the lady serving us with a big smile on her face. The atmosphere is very vibrant, not overly fancy with only small tables but it makes the experience a lot more authentic and intimate. Thank you, we will be back!

What amazing dumplings and noodles. We ordered a few different dishes to share around and everything was fresh and flavoursome. Small hole in the wall, copy and homely. Well worth the visit.

Join backpackers and locals at tiny tables on leafy Victoria Street for some of the best dumplings ever. The mixed pot-stickers held together by a lacy batter lattice is a delicious lucky dip. Deep-fried black sesame balls to finish are a must. No reservations and only BYO.

Google
Very nice place, it might take a little time to order as there is only 1 person taking orders, delivering them to the tables and, clearing tables. We enjoyed the food and we would come again for sure!

Google
An absolute classic of a dumpling place. Come with some drinks from the bottle shop up the road. Life is good

Google
Super charming, no frills spot. Decent selection, friendly service, tasty as dumplings. Try the sesame balls for dessert too :)

Yelp
Humongous portions and pretty reasonable prices. The highlight is the dumplings since the filling is really big.

Yelp
After visiting another dumpling house in the neighborhood and leaving hungry, we decided to give this place a shot. You definitely won't leave here hungry! The space is small, but we didn't have to wait. The service was quick. We ordered some xlb and some pan fried pork dumplings, and I felt like I ate a million dumplings....it was pretty great. This place is definitely authentic. The prices were a little higher than I expected, but the portion size was large, So I felt it was justified. I do believe this place is cash only (or it was....). It's worth seeking out if you're nearby.

Yelp
This is a very small and casual place. It is also BYOB and whenever we go, it seems quite busy. The food and dumplings are quite good with my favorite being the BBQ pork dumplings - they are simply amazing. There is just this added hint of sweet to the dumplings which when drizzled with a little soy/ chili sauce is just a miracle in your mouth! Hot oil noodles are yummy as well and of course you can't go wrong with the steamed dumplings either. Nice place for a quick easy dinner but no need to wear your best threads.

Yelp
BIG fan of this place. Have been coming here for years. The service is terrible but the food is great and super cheap. I always order the same thing every time! Steamed noodles with chicken and half egg and chive dumplings and half beef dumplings fried. Yes that's right egg and chive SO good my favourite dumplings on offer. They also do half half. So if you come by yourself or like variety just ask for them to do 2 flavours in one dish. It's always a favourite on a Friday BYO grab a bottle of wine across the road and order a few dishes it's never more than $20 a head. Cheap cheerful and delicious. You can't go wrong. If you are looking for the traditional thin xiao long bow dumplings you won't find it here but I'm a huge fan!! Pan fried are the way to go!!

Yelp
If I could give this Xiao establishment 7 stars I would. I can only tolerate real food right now so my occasional hamburger isn't an option - not even while I'm on Vaca. So I ordered chicken noodle soup with veggies (I requested both despite the fact that this was not an option on the menu). I was only charged $1 extra for chicken, hand pulled noodles AND delicious Chinese broccoli. This hand pulled noodle style is found in NY & Philadelphia - dare I say it was better here... Anywho, the young lady manning the place is a peach and if you go just know it's tiny :). My husband thoroughly enjoyed his meat dumpling noodle soup as well.

Yelp
THE FOOD: For you, dear reader, I did the full tour of vegetarian steamed dumplings, vegetarian pan fried dumplings, and pan fried egg & chive dumplings. If you're wondering what pan fried egg & chive dumplings taste like - they taste like amazing. Like "Hmm ... So, these dumplings are still steaming and clearly way too hot to for me to be eating - why can't I stop shoveling them down??" amazing. The other types of dumplings were also good. But if I were in a Sophie's choice type dumpling dilemma - as we Sydneysiders so often are in this dumpling-rich metropolis - and could only choose 1, then the slightly salty pan fried egg & chive would def get my vote. They are good enough to eat straight-up - no soy sauce required. The dumplings are pretty big too - so one order (and a nap about half way through) should do ya'. Considering how inexpensive and filling they are (around $10-$13 for a plate full), I can see why this place has such a devoted following. ATMOSPHERE: The other reviewers here ain't lyin'. Don't come here for the ambiance - unless you're the kind of minimalist who wants to eat dumplings in a broom closet, on a folding chair, next to a cash register. Otherwise, call ahead and pick up your dumpling order 'to go' like a champ. ALL-IN-ALL: 4 stars for the stellar dumplings + 1 more star for dumplings so cheap you might consider getting an apartment nearby so you can eat here nightly.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Ordered a Xiao Long Bao and some steamed dumplings! One downer side was that there isn't enough seating spaces and that portions, I felt, were not enough! Xiao Long Bao: Awesome taste Dumplings: Delicious with some unique fillings

Yelp
Simple, delicious food with no frills. Service was OK, and food came in quicker than I expected, after reading some of the other reviews. Entrees Pork mince in lettuce leaves: very tasty and refreshing, plus the lettuce was crunchy. Deep fried eggplant: tasty, but oily. Better option for a bigger party, when each person would have a couple of pieces. Main 2x Mixed Steamed Dumplings (16 dumplings) Pro: all dumplings were delicious Con: no seafood dumplings were in the mix. We'd expected at least one of each flavour. Side Chinese broccoli with soy sauce: steamed, drizzled with sauce. Good size portion. Dessert Mango and coconut tapioca pudding: did taste like coconut, however the mango were merely decorative. All this, plus 2 cokes and a big bottle of San Pel came to $76. We were stuffed and happy :)

Yelp
Walking along the streets of Potts Point is where you can find Dumpling & Noodles House. Although the interior of the restaurant is nothing impressive, the food truly delivers. Customer service is courteous and prices are fair. The ambience of the neighborhood boosts the dining experience as well. Not sure if it is something to credit the establishment but kudos for picking such a good spot to set up shop. I would like to see a large indoor seating area but other than that, I have no complaints. Overall, Dumpling & Noodle House is a great place to get grub. As a tourist, I highly recommend checking it out as you will get a much better experience than what you find in the tourists spots downtown!

Yelp
No frills, barely any seating, and dumplings aplenty. Dumpling & Noodle House is unabashedly unglamorous, offering the bare minimum of table service - imagine a waitress plonking stacks of food-filled, steaming baskets onto your tiny table, and nothing else until it's bill time - with a fast table turnaround to accommodate for the hoards of hungry diners waiting to be seated. But who can complain when a bounty of handmade pockets of goodness (up to 12 steamed or fried parcels per serving) stuffed with finely chopped prawn and vegetables or a spiced lamb mince mixture can easily come in at about $15 per person? It's also BYO - huzzah for $2 corkage! In summer, get there a half hour earlier than your usual restaurant arrival time with the aim to grab an outdoor table to soak up Victoria Street's inner city ambience.

Yelp
Tiny little spot that was CASH ONLY and had about the best tasting dumplings I have had anywhere in the world. The steamed are near perfect, and the fried are a real treat. They prepare everything in the small basement kitchen and while not super speedy, the service is friendly and the food is so good. I chatted with a small group from Perth visiting a friend who said: "I have eaten dumplings all over Sydney and this is the only place I go to now!" I can see why she comes here and only here. BYO wine or beer and have a good dinner.

Yelp
I have meant to try this little hole-in-the-wall eatery on Victoria Street for ages. And that, really, is its charm. That I don't think there's anything else like it in Potts Point, and that it's small and humble with some outdoors seating. Otherwise, the food is basic Chinese food, from the north rather than Canton. The veg were fine. The deep-fried chicken was too salty, but crispy. What stood out was a technique used on the dumplings which I've never seen before, a bit of batter to make them all stick together. The extra crispy bits were indeed delicious, but otherwise, they were plain, not especially delicate or tasty dumplings. But it's hard to find a dumpling that I don't really like... I should try the Xiao Long Bao, the soup dumplings, which I've heard are good. But otherwise, it's a good thing for Potts Point to have some authentic and humble Chinese food in their neighbourhood, though I don't think the food is anything special.

Yelp
This restaurant was good but my only complaint is the soup dumplings were not very soupy

Yelp
Do these guys do Noodles? I'm not sure? they do do dumplings and boy are the dumplings good. Do you like Dumplings? I do! and these dumplings tick the boxes for me. Its one of those joints you'd walk right on by if someone didn't point it out to you so heres the recommendation: - Grab a stool go for the steamed Porkies, administer copious ammounts of Soy Sauce and enjoy! It is a tight squeeze here and you may find it a problem getting in so don't rock up with fifty homies expecting to get your crew in all at once. Its all about the Dumplings here. So take just a few key players and enjoy.

Yelp
This places takes making the most of a small space to new heights. They manage to cram a lot of people into a space the size of a takeaway container. Footpath tables are configured like Tetris and the inside is a series of tightly packed built-in booths and tables. But you don't come here for décor (or the service for that matter!). Forget everything else on the menu, you come here for dumplings! Take your pick--pork and cabbage dumplings, pork and chives dumplings, egg and chives dumplings, beef dumplings, lamb dumplings, chicken and corn dumplings, seafood dumplings, vegetarian dumplings--they are all good! But make sure you get the Xiao-Long Bao soup dumplings!

Yelp
Loved this restaurant! A small hole-in-the-wall spot that was cash only but had very kind service along with fantastically delicious dumplings and buns! Would definitely come back if in the area again!

Yelp
This place was a hole in the wall place not far from our hostel. It was great! very small but really good service and food. Dumplings were very good, some of the best I've ever had!
