Please keep in mind, I rate restaurants based on expectations. Obviously a Michelin star restaurant will have higher expectations than McDonalds. With that being said, Dumpling House was great for a lower end Chinese Cuisine. The dumplings were excellent! I would say the dumplings really stood out. Wonton soup was great. General Tso’s Chicken was dry and the chicken was chewy. The fried rice was good too. It was great for what it was. The waiter let us bring in pizza from the place next door for my kids since they don’t eat Chinese. Decently priced, great service, I was happy with our experience here!

Google
Great spot for incredible, fresh, homemade dumplings and authentic Chinese food. Food doesn't all come out at the same time because it is literally being made fresh in the kitchen by grandma. Loved the dumplings and the cold sesame noodles, amazing flavor. The atmosphere still looks like a "take-out" area in the dining room, which is not so bad, but I feel like the quality of the food would pair well with a little fancier, nicely lit dining area. Overall, the food is worth dining in for and the service was above and beyond.

Dishes were hit or miss; half of what we ordered were very good, but others were not. We got their special noodle on the whiteboard, jajiang noodle 炸醬麵, and it was 100% let down. Nothing I recognized as what the dish should taste, and it wasn't in a good way. The beef noodle soup was better, but nothing special. With the name Dumpling House you'll think their dumpling dishes will win the race, unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. The pork soup dumplings we got were stuck to each other, and ripped when trying to pick them up. Needless to say how little the soup remained. However, the flavor was not bad. We did like their spicy wonton - good fragrance to the sauce with both sour and sweet notes. The pork rice cake was simple, and the cake was done right - not mushy and with just the right chewiness. Another hit was the Fish fillet in house special hot pot sauce. Nice and spicy with soft and tender fillets.

The service is slow but the food is really nice! You can do takeouts or there’s a small seating arrangement, nothing fancy but id nice and comfortable. I loved the spring rolls, Chef special dumplings and the House special fried rice! I also tried wontons in chilli sauce and recommend trying spicy chicken if you like spicy food!

The best Chinese (Szechuan) restaurant I’ve found in Connecticut and is up there with places I’ve been all over the US and Europe. They have a very authentic menu as well as Americanized favorites. The staff is always very friendly. You can tell they use fresh ingredients as everything I’ve had there has been amazing. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. Come in, order, and eat and enjoy. You won’t be let down. Update from 17 May 2023 I can’t stress enough how amazing this place is. We’ve become regulars and have tried a wide array of their dishes and they’re all equally exceptional. The owner is one of the nicest people you could meet as well and you can tell she takes pride in what she does and truly enjoys it. I would rate this restaurant 6 out of 5 stars if I could. It really is at the top of my list for restaurants in CT. It’s as unassuming and unpretentious as it can be and delivers 100% time and time again. This place is a gem.

Google
This place wouldn’t grab you if you didn’t read a review. It is what appears to be a mom&pop operation. I have only had one dish there, the shredded pork with garlic sauce. It is spectacular!!! My son discovered the place after searching a LONG time to find this dish done right. I have to try something different next time! No liquor, beer or wine, but they do allow BYOB beer or wine. Their take out business seems to be very active.

A coworker wanted to go here with a group of us. I was a bit hesitant since I had never been here but the food was absolutely delicious! Way over my expectations. The flavor is unmatched and the price is just right. We all tried a little of each others orders and all equally as delicious as the next. There was even a customer sitting behind us who we asked what he was having since it looked so good and he shared a few of his favorite dishes, even said he drives half hour once a week to eat there which says a lot about the quality of the food and restaurant. Can’t wait to go back and try more dishes, highly recommend! We had, dumplings both pan fried and not, chicken and broccoli, scallion pancakes, vegetable fried rice and a few other things. Go try it, you’ll love it too!

The food here is authentic and homemade. If you can overlook the grumpy owner, you’ll enjoy a fantastic meal. My go-tos are the pork dumplings and pork buns, though the chicken dumplings are decent. The pork fried rice is my absolute favorite. If you like it spicy, ask for it—they'll make it with a chili-oil paste, and it’s delicious. For peanut lovers, the chicken appetizer is a must-try. They also have an afternoon combo that includes an appetizer, soup, and main course—a great deal for the price. If you're visiting on a weekday before 3pm, definitely consider this option.

Yelp
SO AUTHENTIC SO FRESH IAM SOOO EXCITED TO RETURN TO THE DUMPLING HOUSE! Everything is so reasonably priced for the portions which are given. Genuinely so pleasantly surprised with this spot. I highly recommend the scallion pancakes and the pork soup dumplings. Super spacious place! (No music which is odd/hard to manage lolol) Quick and positively familial service!!

Marie R.

Yelp
Simply irresistible. The greatest feature of this restaurant is the consistency of deliciousness in every meal. Everything is cooked to perfection and unlike some places, you feel healthier, having eaten their food. The string beans are the best I have ever had in any country, including countries in Asia.

Daniel C.

Yelp
I like Dumpling House. Nice casual, cozy spot with a warm mom and pop atmosphere, friendly staff, no frills -- just a solid spot to eat some good home-cooked style food.

David S.

Yelp
Dumpling House has been a staple for good Chinese cuisine in Milford. All of the dishes are delicious. One note is that some of their dishes can be spicy.

Michelle O.

Yelp
Delicious home style Chinese food. Tons of options. Not overly processed or Americanized. We had beef and broccoli and the sauce was light and broccoli was super crisp. The eggplant with garlic sauce was very flavorful. And we tried a noodle dish called mei lei. The eggrolls were the delicious too.

Dorna N.

Yelp
Quick pit stop for takeout on our way through Connecticut. Obviously we HAD to order the dumplings (chicken) and they were very tasty! I asked for some chili sauce on the side and theirs had a thicker, pastier texture than regular chili oil - it was sooooo good. While grabbing our takeout, we saw patrons dining in and all their entrees looked so enticing. Would love to return for a proper sit-down meal.

Tanya S.

Yelp
This is a small "mom and pop" Chinese joint. We stumbled upon it, by searching Chinese food, during a staycation in the area. (We're a 50 min drive from Milford.) The place is reminiscent of may small family owned Chinese restaurants... with reddish brown wood furniture and "assorted stacked items" and decorations. (Hubby is a CBC... do we love it, since it reminds us of family.) We came for the dumplings and buns and were not disappointed! Food is delicious and relatively inexpensive. Great value for the money, since they didn't skimp on the fillings. We had steamed as well as pan fried chicken dumplings, steamed veg dumplings, peanut buns and red bean buns. All yum!!! We'll recommend and return!

Alicia B.

Yelp
Food. The The Garlic Shrimp, Vegetable Fried Rice, and Egg Rolls are excellent. Probably the best I have ever had! This place is the best on ththe East Coast!

Kellyann M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious from the dumplings to the sides to the entrees. I ate inside and it was quaint and quiet; wish I lived up here because this would be a staple!

E V.

Yelp
My third visit today . I got the braised pork belly dish. It had baby bok choy and side of white rice. It was excellent.

Paul P.

Yelp
Can I give them 6 stars? I tried this place on a whim just hoping for some good dumplings and what I got was authentic, made to order, high quality Chinese food; a rarity if you don't do your homework. The food even looked good on the plate. They are not fooling around here. I had the wontons with spicy chili oil for an appetizer, and the house special fried rice and General Tso chicken for the main course. Unbelievably fresh and excellent taste. The chicken was spicy but not overwhelming and the chili peppers were chopped up in the dish. The other reason I knew it was the real deal? Several Asian people eating there. That clinched it. Go here. That is all. P.S. Don't let the drab strip mall exterior fool you. There is excellence happening here.

Sanni S.

Yelp
Delicious noodles and dumplings. Authentic and affordable! Just come here for the food. I only see one person working all the times I've been here. Probably the owner. Not a place for a romantic dinner but definitely if you are craving noodles and dumplings, this place hits the spot.

Leanne P.

Yelp
Great food in a simple setting. We got 2 different types of dumplings, the pork soup dumplings and the chicken dumplings. Delicious. The food was definitely cooked to order and it's served family style. We'll definitely be back.

Mas P.

Yelp
Glad I found this place. The Dan Dan noodles are delicious and so are the pork dumplings. I will have to stay away as I'm not supposed to eat noodles. But cheating on my diet with these noodles was worth it. Sorry about the pics. We were HUNGRY!!

Bryan F.

Yelp
I arrived in Milford. Connecticut around 7:45 pm from New Jersey. I checked in to my hotel then arrived at Dumpling House around 8:30 and ordered Scallion Pancakes, Stir-fried Bok Choy and Mushrooms, and Scrambled Eggs with Tomatoes. They all worked well with each other; The scrambled egg dish was surprisingly wonderful: perfectly-cooked scrambled eggs sauteed with fresh tomatoes till the maters release their juices. there was enough bok choy and eggs with tomatoes left over that I just mixed them with a free bowl of steamed brown rice that came with the bok choy dish, and it'll be my breakfast tomorrow.

Bonnie R.

Yelp
The food here is delicious and fresh. It's also very affordable. We always get the soup dumplings, pork dumplings, pork shrimp dumplings, pork fried wonton, and crab Rangoon. My kids eat all of this with joy. My spouse loves there egg rolls. We usually get a dish like cashew chicken (one of my favorites) and it is soooo good.

Jia C.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese food. So glad that I tried them. Home style Chinese food. Will definitely try everything on the menu in the near future.

Johanna S.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a dumpling? No one I would care to know. So, if you are in need of a substantial variety of dumplings to choose from then this must be your destination. I ordered three different kinds; a steamed chicken, a fried vegetable and pork and a vegetable and they were all amazing. Please, don't forget to grab several of their homemade insanity oil. It's a mistake to use too much and a mistake not to try it.

Linda B.

Yelp
Very unassuming storefront. Takeout on one side and restaurant on other. Went there on a Sunday afternoon. Lots of dim sum choices. A good traditional Chinese menu as well. Best egg roll I have ever had in Connecticut. Hot sour soup was also great. Ordered crystal noodle dim sum and Pad Thai. My friend is sensitive to spicy food and felt there was too much hot pepper in the Pad Thai. There was only one person working the dining room and i think it was the owner. Had to get her attention for different things. I would give it five stars but the atmosphere is pretty rough. Tables with no table cloth and just a raw plywood top. Centerpieces of dollar store Silk flowers in white Chinese takeout containers that were soiled with food. Definitely could use some decorating. But Food was great and i will definitely return. .

Yelp
Ordered for the first time tonight, called to order delivery and was told I had to order online.....what if I didn't know how to? also did not realize a third party would deliver food was OK at best and a fairly large order was sent with 2 packets of soy sauce and no duck sauce. really.....probably will not order again

Nisha P.

Yelp
The food was as authentic as it gets. Clean tables with a variety of dishes to choose from. Everything we ate was excellent.

Chrystina C.

Yelp
4.5 stars for the spicy fish fillet hot pot. The flavors are on point. Loved the spice level. My favorite part are the chili soaked cabbage and vegetables yummm. I had 2 bowls of rice with this. 5 stars for the pan fried pork dumplings. The skin was crispy. The filling was generous and flavorful. The juices flowing out from the first bite is amazing. Possibly the best dumplings I've ever had. Much better than Vanessa's dumplings and the other dumpling stores in nyc. 4 stars for soup dumplings. My daughter loved them. They were mini in size so we called them mini soup dumplings. One order comes in 6 and my daughter ate 10 on her own. It was cold by the time I got to try one so that might have affected the taste. The skin was a tad bit thicker than I'm used to. It was decent but nothing to rave home about. 5 stars for the string beans!

Rose K.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese food. Dumplings are fantastic! Very nice people that run the business. Not fancy but it's the food that counts.

Patrick R.

Yelp
I felt like eating dumplings as I walked through the isles of G Market... quickly I reached in my back pocket to grab my iPhone. I unlocked my screen and opened my Yelp app with one swipe and a tap. D U M P L I N G S I typed it while I continued to walk through the isles. Dumpling House... Popped up on my screen, not too far from here... let's do it. After we paid, we made our way to the car and drove to our destination. Dumpling House is a whole in the wall kind a restaurant. We looked at the menu and decided to try a couple of items on the D menu. Shrimp, shrimp pork, wonton in broth, pork buns and pork in chili. Our order was delivered in no time, and slowly we started to eat. This is really good! The pork buns are awesome, but so are all the other items. This is a must go, must try. The menu is bigger than just dumplings, but it's the dumpling house, and not Generals Tso's. So get the dumpling you will enjoy them.

Pauly V.

Yelp
This is a good Chinese restaurant with very friendly, quick service and ample parking. The dishes were hit and miss. Hits: spicy won ton, scallion pancakes, crab rangoon and pork fried rice. Misses for us: crispy spicy chicken (too salty), crystal shrimp dumpling (taste was off)), and the steamed bbq bun (too hard, perhaps over steamed). But there were more pros than cons, plus the very affordable price!

Rae J.

Yelp
The food is FRESH and DELICIOUS! Periodt The pan seared chicken dumplings the orange chicken the vegetable fried rice and Lo main

David C.

Yelp
We love this place! We have really liked everything we've tried (with the exception of the egg-chive dumplings...and not everyone likes everything). The steamed bbq pork buns will spoil a person with the amount of filling...none of that "little dot" in the middle nonsense! Good food and fun...because who doesn't have fun eating dumplings?

Veronica P.

Yelp
This place is great!!! I found my favorite place to eat dumplings here in CT. The ambience is amazing! Feels like we are at home. Service is great! Feels more like you are at home or a guest at a friend's home. Best part, hands down the food! Amazing flavor, home made taste! The Dumplings were soooo good! If my picky eater was impressed, that says a lot. Too bad I can't give them 10 Stars.

Kim N.

Yelp
Felt like we were sitting in a family run restaurant in NY Chinatown. You don't come here for the decor or atmosphere. Real reason, and it's a good one, is the food is delicious and very satisfying. We enjoyed pork soup dumplings, wonton in chili oil, braised pork ribs and house beef noodle soup. The owners are from Szechuan and this was like really good home cooking! We've driven by a thousand times and we decided to try based on the reviews. Glad we did stop in this time and we will be back!

Carline J.

Yelp
The namesake doesn't disappoint. The dumplings are so good and the staff is super friendly.

Larry R.

Yelp
Hot & Sour Soup was delivered Shrimp w Chinese Vegetable also great. Clearly the best Chinese restaurant in Milford. Glad I stopped in.

William O.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Used to be good. Recently went and ordered kung pao chicken. It was more like kung pao onions. Will not be going back anytime soon

Camy C.

Yelp
What I have found is that some dishes are bomb-diggity and some are just blah. I really love their szechuan dishes - crispy spicy chicken, anything in 'chili oil sauce', and the chicken with pickled chili. All of these dishes are priced between $11.99 to $14.99 depending on the protein. But really, they are all very authentic in taste and very generously portioned. And they are spicy!! Proceed with caution. :) I have always done take out and the food is usually ready in 10-15 min.

Edward S.

Yelp
As others have said, simple, old school setting with delicious fresh food. Lots of dumpling options and every one we tried was great. Our first time there and will be back many times to come

Haoran X.

Yelp
Found a little gem! Food and service were amazing! Their lamb was flavorful and well seasoned. Wontons were soft, and the filling was great in of itself. But it was the eggplant that blew my mind. The skin was crunchy, and the inside had the right amount of chew. The sauce was thickened just a little, and neither the sweetness or the spiciness was overpowering each other. It tasted like the flavors were imbued into all the ingredients. I would take that sauce and just have it in a bowl of rice if I could! Parking is convenient, and the restaurant is about a three minute drive off the highway. Convenient for anyone who wants lunch or dinner on a trip. Bathrooms were clean too. I'm definitely coming back here.

Chia L.

Yelp
We ordered the ma po tofu, Gan Guo fish, dan dan noodles and red oil steamed dumplings. All four are spicy dishes and they did not disappoint! Many customers here are repeat customers and it is clear why. Well worth a visit.

Dede S.

Yelp
I used to love getting takeout here and thought the food was very good most of the time but it is not consistent anymore. I ordered general Tsos shrimp and it was beyond soggy it was like mush and the shrimp was so over cooked it was like biting into a tire.not only that, they forgot our rice and their was a huge piece of plastic in my fish dish!! I don't think I will be eating here again.

Kate L.

Yelp
Ok experience. Menu extensive. Authentic as my friend said. Pork soup dumplings doughy. Not much liquid in them. Shrimp and pork dumplings ok. Spicy beef noodle soup ok. Beef in the soup was tender and tasty. Tasted a bit strange though. Overall ok. Prob won't go back.

Cecille H.

Yelp
I don't know where to start. This place was a total disappointment. We ordered 3 dishes, 2 appetizers and a wonton soup. Our billed $65+ We figured why not, it will be worth it considering the reviews on Yelp but NOPE! Total waste of our hard earned money!!! The Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce was doused in oil, the Pan fried flat noodles with beef was tasteless while the noddles were all stuck together. Wonton soup was decent but nothing special and Sweet and sour chicken was soggy and super oily. The Fried chicken wings was by far the most discussing!!!! - Deep fried hair in the batter. We got this for a child and could not even eat it (See pictures I posted!) I do NOT recommend coming here. The only good thing was the 3 egg rolls. Pretty basic but I wouldn't be surprised if it came with a side of hair too! FYI: White rice was under cooked! Come on, as an Asian myself I expected better! I still can't believe how expensive it is here!!! To the owner and workers of the restaurant, please do yourselves a favor and check orders before packing! Definitely unsanitary and unacceptable to see hair in your food!

Carla G.

Yelp
Really enjoyed their Cumin Lamb with Onions and Scallions, their Eggplant with Garlic Sauce and their Pork and Cabbage Dumplings. All of these items were super flavorful and travel well when doing take out. I also recommend their Soup Dumplings and shrimp dumplings which are also great. In fact any dumpling you order here and there are many to choose from are delicious and well seasoned.

Scott R.

Yelp
Great affordable food! One of the few places in todays inflationary environment where you can eat and not upset your wallet too much! Highly recommend the wonton soup - great price too!

Michael G.

Yelp
Everything is excellent but if you want to treat yourself stick to the authentic Chinese they offer. Their ma po tofu is excellent. And the name sake says it all. Love this place.

Heather A.

Yelp
Delicious and the owner was super welcoming, as we told her it was ur first time here. THE BEST hot and sour soup I've ever had, if you like spicy THIS is the spot for you!!! Everything we ordered was definitely made with love and perfect for a chilly fall night dinner date at home. Going back tonight for some more soup and dumplings

Chris G.

Yelp
This might be the best dumplings that I have tasted this far (in New Haven County). All the food was great.. the steamed pork dumplings Dough was a bit thick, but that is me knit picking. Very low key good

Kert S.

Yelp
A lovely small and very clean local restaurant. Staff could not have been nicer. The dumplings were outstanding with many choices. Kung Pao Chicken was made with fresh, perfectly cooked chicken and veggies. Spice level was perfect. Stir fried vegetables and hot pot were also great. Can't wait to go back. An added bonus, BYOB!

Leah F.

Yelp
Authentic, freshly made food tucked into a subtle strip mall. Do not overlook this hidden gem. While the ambience can sometimes be lacking (very very quiet, no music), the food is always flavorful and FRESH. The best way to describe their soup dumplings is that they are made with love. I would recommend trying their chili oil as well - ask for it! VERY reasonable priced. My dream is that they will offer delivery one day.

Aleece P.

Yelp
Great experience here last night and everything we had was delicious. Decided we wanted dim sum but didn't want to drive to NY for dinner so we found this place and it was a great compromises. The pork soup dumplings weren't as full of soup as we're normally used to but still really good. The shrimp dumplings and wontons in spicy chili sauce were my favorite. The beef dumplings also really good and flavorful. We also got pork buns, spring rolls, and chicken mei fun all good. We will definitely be back

Shae H.

Yelp
What a gem! We were on the road traveling from NYC to the Cape and I was craving noodles. I wish we had the time to sit down and order a few other things off the menu as it all looked and smelled delicious. Also, I can't forget to mention how sweet and hospitable the service was. Will definitely swing by again next time we're passing thru.

Liam C.

Yelp
This spot has been our salvation during COVID-19. Since it is a bit of a drive for us, we pack a Styrofoam cooler and order ahead on our drive down to Milford. We then head several miles down the road to Silver Sands beach and have a picnic. We have done this throughout the winter even when we had to eat in the car, but now that spring is approaching, it is even more enjoyable. I have yet to find anywhere in CT that serves Suan La Fen soup. I love all of their dishes and their homemade chili oil. Their soup dumplings are the perfect size to keep popping in your mouth. It really does not get better than this at any price, and the prices are fair and reasonable on their lunch specials. Why not grab some takeout with your family and enjoy a lovely dim sum picnic? Dumpling House is our weekend treat and we usually hit here at least once a month.
