An amazing and underrated location. It’s a roughly 3000 year old ring fort perched on a cliff (be careful!). The smaller structures inside are clocháns, ancient stone houses. The black limestone it’s made of is very impressive. Be aware that to reach it you have to walk 1 km over rather rough ground.

Fantastic experience and stunning views of the cliffs. Very quiet, almost nobody seems to choose this trail, whereas the island is very touristy elsewhere.

Great trip up to the black fort. We took the ferry from Galway (about 2 hours there and 3 hours back) and hiked up from the ferry dock. Takes about an hour to get to the area and another 90 minutes or so to explore. Just gorgeous rugged nature. The stark cliffs and black rock ruins make it even more beautiful. Definitely wear rugged shoes and watch your step. It would be very easy to hurt your ankle in between the stones. No guides and very little signage. No railings, no facilities, not accessible except on foot. 100% worth the trip.

Not a pleasant hike through uneven rocky surfaces. And the signs are a bit misleading. But nice views once you get there. I'll skip this if you've already been to the other big fort.

Can’t miss. This and the far west lighthouse viewpoint are the highlights of the island for me. Can’t even describe the scale of the view in words or pictures, you have to see it. Definitely a bumpy hike - not rock scrambling, but not smooth ground, so wear good shoes.

Unique place on the diverse island. This place is only reachable by foot. The end of the walk is stunning. You walk on a big field full of rocks. Be careful and ware proper walking shoes. Stone can be slippery and aren’t fixed. In the end you can see all the cliffs around.

the best ruins I saw on Inishmore. Nobody was around when I hiked out there (weekday around 3pm), seems like everyone would rather see Dun Aonghasa. It’s seriously cool and worth the hike out to see it- photos do not do justice to the scale of the thing. Just be careful of the cliffs and be sure to wear sturdy shoes.

Another amazing to-be place in InishMore. The views and the formation of The Black Fort is spectacular!! Not for the weak hearts, as it requires good physical and mental strength to explore this place. The way to reach is not clear and until you get some strong guidance, you’d not be able to reach the exact spot. There isn’t a defined way, so one will have to find their own way. However once you somehow reach the spot, it’s worth the every bit of effort and the memories would last for a lifetime.
