Dunas de Formentera

The pool is small - too small to swim laps - but perfect to soak in a beautiful view, drink excellent wine, frequently dip in to be refreshed. |The food at the restaurant steps away is solid. |The rooms down the hill are comfortable and spacious - the air conditioning rocks. |The staff is wonderful. |The public beach down the hill has some of the clearest water I have ever seen. |It can be hot, not a lot of shade but a lively hotel on an even more lively island. |The hotel is small. We had excellent guests around us. That said it is small enough that a few loud guests could mess up the vibe.

Great, but not perfect for this price point. What’s amazing: the location. Beautiful strip of beach that it’s on. Infinity pool has a great vista. At night we were also lucky to get a view of the Milky Way which was incredible. What’s good: the rooms are beautiful and calming color palette. Very chic vibe. What’s mixed: The food is average. Breakfast is very nice. Lunch and dinner are less good and very similar menus. Also we ordered one of the specials and it was 3x the price of the average main on the menu. Sticker shock paying e130 for a very average ribeye. What disappointed: The service standards were very mixed for a resort of this quality. Everyone was very nice and friendly and very patient with my 5yr kid who is a handful so I really appreciated that. However the level of attentiveness of the staff was terrible. I had to get out of my seat many, many times and flag down a waiter. This should not happen at a place like this. And given how nice the staff are it’s an easy fix and could have changed the whole complexion of the visit. What’s worth noting: the beach isn’t actually part of the hotel and you don’t get service and loungers there. Rather you have to pay separately to a beach bar/lounger company to get access to these things. Also there are public car parks interrupting the view of the sea a bit. Not the end of the world but something to be aware of.

My experience with Dunas de Formentera was so spectacular, we added another day to our trip there. Our room #91 was located closest to the beach. Lovely porch, very comfortable bed and pillows. Clean and comfortable. Our welcome bag and throws from them was sweet. The rooms and baths are spotless and the staff beyond accommodating. Breakfast was always fresh and delightful at the poolside. Johanna and the whole staff spent every minute making sure our needs were met. Our scooter delivered and picked up with no stress. Their golf cart just a phone request away to zip you up and down the dunes from your room to restaurant. They provide beach chairs, towels and umbrella as well as lovely poolside towels. You always have more than what you need here. The beach can be walked to many cafes and restaurants. We will be back. The most peaceful and beautiful vacation. I have traveled for 50 years all over the world. Dunas de Formentera is very special.

Amazing small resort, nestled between sand dunes and steps from the beach. Rooms are distributed in spacious villas, with warm decor and large bathrooms. The restaurant is an invitation to relax with sea views by the pool. Very friendly and attentive staff. A sure bet for those looking for a luxury getaway.

Felt like paradise! We had an amazing time at Dunes. The staff is so friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable, clean and spacious and overlooking the ocean. We will definitely come back.

My friends and I had the best time in Dunas. The staff was so friendly, the location is absolutely perfect, food in the restaurant Caliu, just wow! The moment you enter the hotel, you get a profound sense of calm and serenity. Perfect holiday spot to disconnect!

Our visit was end July and the resort was only opened for a month so not sure if some of this will be corrected as the season goes on. ||Pros|Location |Great cocktails and food - breakfast and lunch was delicious ||Cons|Rooms are not as advertised and it was met with denial when first raised. The floor plans online did NOT represent what we got (I see now the website has removed the floor plans). A challenging way to start a vacation at a resort of this calibre when you feel ripped off. We booked a junior suite, it had no double sink, large robe or outdoor day bed on a spacious terrace as advertised and paid for. We finally got half a nights discount after much discussion with management (and this ended up being Euro 150 less than promised - in writing! - unfortunately not surprising as we had already had multiple disagreements around what was said and offered as compensation initially with Duty Manager).||We learnt is that there is a huge variance in rooms in each type - with some of the Junior Suites being 30% smaller than others - this is listed on the site. I have attached photos from website when we booked and visited and what we got. ||Rubbish - cigarettes butts and plastic around pool and main walkway to beach from restaurant. Disappointing for a resort that promotes itself as eco and sustainable, particularly as more than saw at any beaches we visited on the island. ||Restaurant staff using headsets - with only three tables to serve… it completely kills the vibe when someone is opening your wine and loudly and abruptly instructing into the headset to clean the next table. Embarrassing for this size of restaurant to even need this, as was the dynamic between staff heirachy. ||Based on the room issues I would not return to this hotel, I know this region is expensive and you pay premium for location and the beautiful environment, but the false advertising and attitude we got when challenged it is not acceptable. For average Euro 1500 + per night during Summer season it is not worth it.

A first-time visitor to Formentera, I was already very excited ahead of our visit and I couldn’t have wished to stay in a nicer hotel staffed by a super friendly, helpful and charming team. ||Our room was 2 minutes from the hotel and 5 minutes from the beach. The room was comfy, clean and very nicely decorated with a sink, small fridge big bed and spacious shower.||The breakfast was delicious with a wide selection of hot and cold food with fresh ingredients- good coffee too, because coffee is important. The view from the restaurant is spectacular and the food is delicious too; we enjoyed an evening meal, a nice late lunch, and a slightly boozy pizza and would have it all again. ||The pool was always immaculate and while I could go on about the facilities, vibe, Wi-Fi stability, what really sets Dunas de Formentera apart is the people working so hard at the hotel to create an unforgettable experience . Everyone we spoke to was kind, friendly, helpful and made us feel delighted to be there. The team are more than happy to share their advice on where to go and what to eat, and they even put up with my very mediocre attempts at Spanish.||Stay here - you won’t be disappointed and you’ll definitely want to come back. ||¡Hasta luego!
