Stumbled upon this cozy Brewery by accident. Met the owner, Aaron in the parking lot and he invited us in before opening hours for a beer. Excellent beer, service and enjoyed an outstanding Elk Burger. Highly Recommend!

Overall went here twice, on a Friday and Saturday night. Friday night - ate out the street so we just ordered drinks although food smelled good, made note to try again. Beer was good not great. Also tried the root beer which they brew on site, it was also good not great. Live music and dog friendly environment which was a plus. Also of note, they still were serving food after 8, which is when they said they closed, so kudos to them. Rating the first night 4/5 stars Saturday night. Arrived around 7:45 and was able to grab the last open table outside. Ordered a Salmon BLT, which was excellent, with a side Caesar and another root beer. Had same waitress as previous night, but no real banter or discussion. The other waitress there was more lively and engaging with the other patrons. Never received the root beer, when I questioned it on the bill she asked if I wanted it in a to go cup. Also no refill on water, despite it being in the 80s still (over 100 during the day). Maybe waiter was having a bad day, They were still serving food at 8:45 when we left, so a plus for extended hours. Score for second visit 2/5. Overall 3/5 for inconsistency. Pretty good food and hope to luck out on the service side

Google
Great beer, amazing food, friendly staff, and dog friendly 🙂 They even brought a water bowl out for our dog. We love seeing the hops growing near our table when sitting outside. Lastly, the clam chowder on Friday nights is AMAZING! We will always stop here when traveling through or staying in the area.

Google
Visiting the nearby state park and stayed in a local campground. While here we stopped at this place on a Friday evening for a couple beers and they had live music, which was pretty good. So, as we had another night in the area decided to stop here for dinner. The elk burger and salmon blt were quite good and came quickly. However, the service was quite lackluster.

Google
Fabulous place to eat! We sat outside in their garden area, all tables had umbrellas which was great as it started to thunder and rain but we could stay outside! Food was amazing and staff was so friendly. They make their own microbrew and root beer. Glad we arrived in town before they closed. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in town or passing through Dunsmuir!

Notoriously Famous

Google
Just had the clam chowder, heavenly best clam chowder I have had. We also enjoyed our favorite Pesto Muscles, delicious. On top of that I had the Mahi Mahi street tacos so good. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing, if you can sit outside enjoy the mountains. My husband had the Blood Sweat and Tears IPA, definitely a good one. This place is a hidden jewel stop if you get a chance.

Google
It’s 2024. And every person I’ve ever talked to wants fries with their burger not mass produced potato chips or half decent salad or potato salad. Went there today and there wasn’t a soul in there, but I drove by yaks and pipeline and they were packed out. Also, the burger was bland and needed seasoning or at least salt.

Google
I stopped into Dunsmuir Brewery Works for a Brat and Beer. They have the best warm German potato salad and picked up 2 extra German potato salad sides to take home! I actually try and schedule my trips between Oregon and California along Interstate 5 when Dunsmuir Brewery Works is open just to stop in for a great meal! Give Dunsmuir Brewery Works German Pub a try; they'll have you coming back for more! They have a wonderful beer selection! Do yourself a favor and give them a try! If you find my review helpful, please click the thumbs-up 👍icon. Thank you!

Yelp
The ribs and clam chowder were absolutely divine. The hospitality, vibes and overall experience was heart and belly warming. We were able to bring in our dog, and even got insider information about the magical and secret BBQ sauce. It felt like a good dinner at a friends place, 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
A nice little stop on my journey, I popped in here hoping to sit with a cold beer or two with some wifi to do some catching up. While the beer was indeed cold, the wifi was too slow to get much done and my hot spot service wasn't quite up to fill in the details. Friendly service and an enjoyable spot for a beer break along I-5 in the NorCal mountains. [Review 20959 overall - 489 in California - 1944 of 2023.]

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday during Memorial Day weekend and they were apparently very, very, very, very busy or severely under planned their food supply. Upon arriving for dinner there was plenty of seating and no one waiting, and since the weather was absolutely perfect we sat outside. The wait staff was pleasant even though they seemed flustered (from being extremely busy earlier maybe), and were apologetic about the food. They started off by saying, we're out of a lot of things so it's easier if I tell what we do have. I wasn't upset and I can totally understand. I was just surprised that they were out of basic items like chicken, burgers, and half of their side choices. So we ordered salads. Thankfully the salads were huge and the dressings we chose (Cesar and honey balsamic vinegarette) were delicious. After all that we left somewhat satisfied and happy we enjoyed what we were able get.

Yelp
First to start this review we found ourselves in Dunsmuir on a Thursday mid day in the off season. We were looking for someplace to eat and there weren't a lot of places open. Based on positive Yelp reviews we thought we'd give this spot a try. It's a bit dingy, but not terrible, definitely roadside pub vibes. The women working was very nice but similar to other reviews started by outline all of the items they were out of - on a day that they appeared completely dead, on an already very limited menu. I didn't expect a lot but when our drinks came out not chilled after traveling all day it was a big disappointment. The food was just ok. We split a BLT and a Pretzel, again very brew pup casual. All in all it was fine, with the exception of our drinks not being cold but definitely a mid 3 star rating.

Yelp
Nice little brewery! We took an afternoon to travel up to the area for some new scenery. Definitely a laid back place to spot and have lunch and sample their beers as well as a few others. Food was tasty and service was amazing and friendly. We'll be back.

Yelp
This is a dream come true. Eat here. It's the sweet spot that combines comfort, quality, value and service. Comfortable casual vibe approachable and simple menu food that is far better than expected, with subtle touches that prove the cook has real talent and pride in their work. Ample outdoor space with a 2 level garden Friendly servers who give you enough attention even when it's busy. Reasonable prices that seem like a bargain for quality this high And.... For a bonus? It's very Dog Friendly. Tables are set up outside with enough distance to avoid doggy drama. There's no doubt I'll be back when in the area. This place is a gem.

Yelp
Nice out door seating with a view, service is good and food was great. Recommend mussels and elk burgers. BLTs look delicious, wanted to try the salmon BLT, but they were out of the lemon cream cheese . Beer list is limited, Train hopper IPA and Rusty spike imperial red are very tasty. We hit this place two nights in a row!

Yelp
Good food, decent beer, cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The beer is good - clean - but doesn't blow you away. Not super complex or innovative, but for some people that may be a real plus. Food is very solid. The clam chowder is excellent- some of the best I've had. My presto chicken sandwich was good, nothing noteworthy to write about. They also have interesting specials - like ribs, which were quite tender. Inside is nice and cozy. They also have a pretty large patio for warm weather.

Yelp
This place is a solid 4. Cute from the outside, inside was okay. We chose to sit outside in their front patio. It was a beautiful day and our table had an umbrella. Our server, Trinity, was friendly and quick. She informed us of things they didn't have that day. Their beer selection wasn't too great but my hubby found one he liked. We tried the BLT with a side salad and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a side salad. The BLT was very good using awesome bacon. The Spicy Chicken Sandwich had just the right amount of spicy. The side salad was a mix green. Their dressings were yummy. This place wasn't out of this world but we truly enjoyed ourself. If ever in the area again we would consider coming back.

Yelp
Very good choice after a morning of hiking! As a vegetarian, I appreciated the nut burger. Spouse thought the reuben was ok. Friendly service, clean bathroom, and dogs allowed on the patio- zero complaints from any of us. I'd be happy to return next time I'm passing through the area!

Yelp
Had a Greek salad and a red ale and really liked each. They have the start of a Biergarten down some steps. Still a work in progress. The outdoor patio was fine to watch passersby and the light on the trees of the towering hillside. That made for a pleasant setting on our warm summer evening. Servers are attentive and friendly and they work well as a team. Oh, the Greek salad had the chicken removed as my wife is vegetarian so honestly they should have knocked $4 or more off its ~$19 price, but I didn't think to ask. The question of an honest pour: several times now I have been in pubs in the US and ordered a pint of their best. The beverage arrives in what looks like a pint glass except it's smaller. It only holds 12oz not 16! At first I would demonstrate this to staff by entirely filling their "pint" glass with A12oz bottle of beer. I would be met with a blank look and be told it was their "pint". I give up. This place may be the same but I didn't bother to verify so I can't be certain. The price was ok and I was happy overall. Might be worthwhile to bring a 16oz measuring cup and ask them to fill that and then pour into their glass and see the result. In the UK they have proper pint glasses and fill lines so you have some confidence.

Yelp
Nice experience, service, food, beer and cider was good We had stopped for lunch and beverages and later walked by in the evening and they had live music too

Yelp
Looks a little sketch from the outside but the food was good. If you're in a pinch, go for it.

Yelp
The corn beef Reuben was delicious and was very visually appealing. The service was prompt, friendly, accommodating.

Yelp
Despite there only being one staff member working, our orders were taken quickly and our food came out not long after. The staff member was very nice and attentive and the vibe was homey and cozy. We had the spicy chicken sandwich and the nut burger. The nut burger was so good! I'm gonna have to go back and ask for the recipe. Both of the beers I tried were great. I had a small sample of the IPA and a full pint of the cream stout. You can really tell that these were made in super small batches and were super fresh.

Yelp
Highly recommend! An absolute delight from start to finish. The delicious food, impeccable service, and charming ambiance made for a memorable experience.

Yelp
Went tonight with my fiancé while we were in town traveling for business. I ordered the BLT. I'm always slightly disappointed when I order a BLT from restaurants because it just always underwhelming... but I crave it so I do it to myself. LET ME TELL YOU, this BLT, was incredible. By far one of the very best I've ever had. Our server was a joy, my cider was amazing. The fresh vegetables were simple yet delicious. I wish this place wasn't 1,500 miles away from home. Thank you for the amazing food and service tonight!

Yelp
For a brewery, you can go for the beer (when they actually have it) they only had one beer that they made still on tap otherwise it was all outsourced. For the food, a lot of things weren't available, and our food took awhile for not a huge busy period. Their pretzel was hard as rock and their spicy chicken sandwich was over cooked tough chicken although the flavor was ok. Angus burger tasted a little burnt as well. Maybe it was an off day, but expected more from all the 4 star ratings. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend coming here based on what we experienced.

Yelp
I'd focus more on the beer and ambiance and less on the food. The menu was vast and the beer selection was down to three options when we went (other beers on the list had been crossed out). It reminded me of a reflection from Anthony Bourdain- something along the lines of, "stick to places that only offer you 5 or 6 menu items, it means they've perfected those items and don't care what else you want because they know what they're serving is damn good." And on the same note, avoid places that offer 20 or 30 menu items because it means they likely are only doing it all at a mediocre pace. We came for the beer, so while the three pours they had (one was a guest selection, the other two were their brews) were decent, maybe if they spent less time and money on reheating chicken wings and more time on brewing they'd have something really great.

Yelp
Sweet little spot. Food was good. Staff was lovely. Particularly good spot if you enjoy beer tasting. Very dog friendly patio was a bonus!

Yelp
Wonderful service, delicious food (burgers, Hungarian mushroom soup, salads), great house-made beer, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Awesome place!

Yelp
Had dinner here while staying overnight in Dunsmuir. Very friendly staff and we enjoyed the food and beer! My son said it was the best BLT ever and the Trainspotter IPA hit the spot on a warm evening.

Yelp
Get some of their red beer and also their root beer! They'll can it for you while you wait as well! Food is also good, been there several times and so far have not had a bad meal.

Yelp
Great food, tasty brews, and good service in this quaint little mountain town. I Highly recommend the Reuben.

Yelp
The elk burger was delicious!! The muscles was perfect and I could have drank a bowl of the sauce they were in.

Yelp
What a dive... I remember this place being a lot nicer. Windows are dirty, flies everywhere. Inside and outside, it is just a pit. Glad we only came for a beer--no way I would order food from this place.

Yelp
We moved to Dunsmuir over 6 months ago. This was the first time we've ever been there. Not only was the food just okay, but the service was sub par. Honestly, we will never go back there again. ‍

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious! We had the duck tacos, Greek salad with duck, spicy chicken sandwich and pesto chicken sandwich. Every dish was a hit! We also tried the dirty blonde and it was light and floral. Yum! The manager was incredible and was on top of everything! I could tell the servers were a little overwhelmed with the giant Memorial Day crowd but they did their best. We will definitely be back during our next visit.

Yelp
Tasty brews, prompt service from Cara and food was delicious! Came in and sat on the patio with our two pups and enjoyed some cold beer on tap with a bowl of clam chowder that rivals any memory from the New England Chowder in Connecticut. The huge bowl was accompanied by a baguette of crusty sourdough. The grilled chicken sandwich and the duck carnitas tacos were delicious! They even ran out with a bowl of water for our pups! We'll be back when we're by this way again!

Yelp
If you're checking reviews and trying to decide on a spot to get a bite or a drink, this is your spot, you do not want to miss it. We actually almost drove right by without stopping, but luckily we turned around for it and we immensely happy we did. This place is super cozy and you can tell that the owner really cares about what he's doing in every facet. As you walk in there's a cute little bar tucked into the corner to your right, as well as an open kitchen in front of you. The intimate setting and good vibes give this spot a very homely feel and the passion truly shows in both the food and the beer. I'll try not to go too deep into the food and drink, but it all really was one of a kind. The beer cheese bread was not just regular cheesy bread, its hard to describe just how great it was, and I don't was to ruin the surprise. The caesar salad had a delicious light dressing, and the chowder was exactly what I was looking for. I tried 4/6 of the house beers and was thoroughly impressed by all of them, even the ones I don't typically drink like the imperial red or the porter which tasted more like a cold brew coffee than alcohol. My favorite was their Trainhopper ipa, which clocked in at an intimidating 95 ibus but somehow was one of the smoothest and easiest drinking ipas I've ever had. Even my mom (who I brought here for Mother's Day) thought it was pleasant, and she's pretty averse to ipas. All in all, a great experience and I will recommend this place to everyone I know in California. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to stock their pullover hoodies in black. I know I'd get one;) An absolute gem!

Yelp
Server was super helpful and friendly. Outdoor seating was very comfortable even for a hot summer evening. Wife's salad was quite good as was my sandwich. Overall a very good option.

Yelp
Ordered a burger and cheesesteak. Cheesesteak had a weird marinate and aftertaste that tasted nothing like a real authenticate cheesesteak. The burger was fine but we paid extra for cheese which it did not have and we specifically asked for no sauce and it had sauce on both sides. The cook and server really didn't care. This was one of the only places opened during the latest storms will not be going back. Prices are also high for the quality of food but it's on par for the area unfortunately.

Yelp
Woah! This place was a pleasant surprise! I had their vegetarian burger w/ gluten free bread and DANG! YUMMO! Also had the homemade potato salad. I also came with the fam, and our meal consisted of: Elk burgers, Spicy chicken burger, and DELICIOUS clam chowder! The clam chowder alone would have been worth the trip! (We will probably have dreams about that cup of soup! Well done, guys!) If you are looking for a taste of heaven, close to Mount Shasta, this is your place!

Yelp
Stopped in Dunsmuir late in the afternoon. Happened onto Dunsmuir Brewery Works and left later very happy that we did. They had only 4 beer blends to serve but they were all good and we easily found one we each liked and stayed with. Sat outside on a nice patio, quiet even though it was on the Main St of town. Service was excellent and the food, was really good. None of it was expensive . 5 stars for the combination!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been here twice and both time had their Red Ale as now days everything else is IPA super hoppy and weird sour or fruit beer anywho I prefer to sit at the bar inside as outside both times was too hot. And my favorite dish is the mussels dish...is super delicious just the right amount of basil and garlic in the sauce, creamy and liquidity. And they give you this nice beget sliced bread to go with it. Plus, they have their own brew root beer sooo good! There is always one waitress but she seems to manage well my only complaint was/is the horrible music when you sit inside @ one point when I was at the bar waiting for my food to go back to the RV and finishing my beer and there was another customer maybe in his 50's the music is blasting and some song came up...some rappers singing that if your Dic! Is large enough to start dancing....something like that, just repeating it over and over. Finally when the waitress came back we asked to change it and she was apologetic and nice about it. Owners if you read this your place is awesome can you play something that fits where this place is...Dunsmuir and not some basement club in NYC....otherwise you guys rock!!! Definitely going back for my mussels and Red Ale!!!

Yelp
If you ever find yourself in Dunsmuir stop by. Their Good Boy Porter is a very smooth drinking Porter. Add Clam chowder and elk burger and you'll have a damn good visit!

Yelp
Homely restaurant and brewery. Very pleased with the service and food was much better than I would expect from a city I never heard of before. Never had Elk burger but was a good one to start. Salmon BLT delicious too. Get some good sides to choose from. Had tomato basil soup and German potatoes. Microbrewery in back made a decent beer. Would come back again if in Dunsmuir.

Yelp
We've been coming here for the past 5 years and it's gotten better every time. Not only has the food been evolving, but the beers have been continuously refined and developed to exciting levels. Needles to say I loaded up with their new merch and joyously drank beer with my creamy white wine pesto mussels and order of duck carnitas tacos. Keep it up Dunsmuir Brewery... You're this girl's FAVORITE tradition/beacon to look forward to on my road trips.

Yelp
Elk Burger & Prime Rib Dip with the Trainhopper IPA & Imperial Red after a good day of whatever goodness you did up that beautiful area.. is hard to beat.

Yelp
They have the best Angus burger. It was cooked to perfection with the right zing of harmonious flavors that explode in your mouth.

Yelp
Duck tacos are the bomb!! Who knew you can get such quality and delicious food in a small town like Dunsmuir? This brewery not only has a fantastic IPA on tap that they brew in-house with Shasta water but a great selection of offerings for us foodies. I am so happy when I pass by on my drive on a Friday and get to indulge in their clam chowder. The last thing my boyfriend tried was their rib special and it knocked his socks off. The manager Trinity was a super sweet and wonderful woman as well as the bartender who was happy to pour a small half pint for me and you know it's a wonderful place when the employees are spending their time off at the restaurant. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly on a rainy night. when I'm passing through on my drive I will stop to pick up dinner here again soon

Yelp
I just returned from dinner and had one of the worst dining experiences I've received in a long time. This is the type of place that clearly does not care out serving customers, but merely looking to make a profit. My fiancé and I arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was half empty and the ambiance inside felt very odd. No music but the sound of pots clashing from the open kitchen and loud fans filling the room. We placed our orders around 8:40, and it took 1 hour to receive our food - with 20 mins to eat before they closed. When we finally received the food, I was shocked. The pretzel appetizer looked identical to gas station pretzels and the beer cheese tasted stale and out of a jar. The nacho cheese from a gas station would have tasted better. Disappointing for $8. The Chicago brat looked like the standard brat and buns you can get from the grocery store, and was the only decent tasting item from our meal. The warm potato salad side had undercooked potatoes. Mediocre for $13. The worst was my elk burger, which was cooked well done, instead of medium well like they listed on the menu. Elk is a very tough meat, which is why it needs to be cooked medium rare. The burger also had no seasoning and was so bland I had to douse it with mustard and ketchup to be edible. The coleslaw tasted like it had been sitting out for a while, with the napa cabbage oversaturated with sauce. $15 for a tough unseasoned burger and old coleslaw. The food quality, which mostly resembled microwaved frozen meals, made me wonder why it took an hour to get our food. Half way during our wait, our waitress offhandedly said, with her back turned, that there was a big group right before us, hence the wait - although the restaurant was mostly empty by that time. The staff seemed not interested at all in serving people. While we were waiting for our food, I even saw the servers taste a bite of the food, and grab ingredients (raw cabbage for the slaw) without gloves after handling dirty dishes. Never again. The best thing about the meal was the beer which was just ok.
google avatar

Xiaoxi W.

Yelp
Quite a surprise, we ordered the Elk burger, pesto muscle and duck taco. If I give duck taco 4 stars, then burger and muscle are 5 out of 5! Really like them. Not pricy, and food taste even beyond some fancy restaurants in the Bay Area! The flight of beer is also good. Overall, definitely beyond 4.5 of 5! Will revisit if time allows.

Yelp
We brought our dog with us and hoped to get a table outside on the patio. The patio was full, so the waitress told us we could go around the corner to the back garden with our dog to sit. We went to the garden and it is an area that has so much potential, but really needs work. We sat at a table that felt like we were in a backyard that needed yard work and upkeep done. I went up to place our beer order, then the waitress asked me to stick around so I could carry all 4 of our beers back to the far-away garden. She at least did give me a plate to carry the four beers on, then asked me to bring it back to her when I was done. It felt more like a serve-yourself brewery where we got drinks then went and sat in what felt like someone's backyard. We were the only people back in the "garden" and the waitress never came to check on us or ask for refills. Then, some people randomly came into this "garden" from a direction other than the brewery and asked if they could have our table because they do a weekly meeting in that spot. We were done with our drinks by then, so we just bussed our table and left. We would definitely choose a different place for beers next time, or even just pick some up from a liquor store and take them to an outdoor location since that's essentially what this felt like. Hardly any service and felt like we were neglected customers that they did not have room or time for. We would've happily waited for a patio spot if we knew this is what the service/experience in the "garden" would be like.

Yelp
Lovely little gem I found just before heading back to bay area. The Kolsch I had was excellent.... And the BLT was delicious.
