Duomo Suites & Spa (Catania, Sicily) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sicily isn’t just famous for its gorgeous coastline, but for culture as well. Duomo Suites & Spa, located in the heart of the island’s second-largest city, is a window into the island’s more cerebral side. This part of town is, simply put, a Baroque wonderland for architecture fans, a charming labyrinth of cobbled passageways that open onto picture-perfect piazzas and palaces. Duomo Suites & Spa is located inside one of these, a four-story structure that dates to the 18th century. But inside, the look isn’t ornate or overly decorative, it’s spare and minimalist, with a cool color palette and geometric design details. Pop art murals and poetic text, all paying homage to Italian cinema, enliven the white walls." - Tablet Hotels

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) Dear Google Maps Community, The location is fantastic, and special thanks go to receptionist Vanessa and the kind housekeeping staff. They truly do their best. Unfortunately, for over €450 for two nights, we were disappointed: • Both rooms we stayed in were worn: swollen door frames, broken furniture, mold in the bathroom, and some fixtures didn’t work. • The rooftop terrace looked nothing like the pictures – dirty cushions, no setup. The photos suggested a rooftop bar, which doesn’t exist. • Twice during our stay, the entire hotel had no running water – once for more than two hours. • Our first room had hair in the bed; the broken toilet revealed the water issue. We were kindly upgraded, but no compensation was offered. • Rooms are very large, but we noticed leftover dirt (chips, dead insects). General cleaning (e.g., towels) was good Sadly, despite the great staff, I cannot recommend this hotel at the moment. Better and cheaper options are available in Catania’s old town. @Duomo Suites & Spa: Please renovate and improve – then I’d be happy to give it another try.

I neverrr write bad reviews because I can usually find enough nice things to offset and undesirable things. That’s not the case here. I can say the housekeeping and breakfast folks were super sweet. And the pillow was decent. I wish that made up for them putting us in a room/room class that we didn’t book and for the mold and peeling paint in shower. Yes- they paint the shower enclosures and it doesn’t hold up. |They advertise soundproof rooms and they are nowhere near soundproof- you can hear a lot of loud noise (music) for hours through the night. |We booked and of the 2 ‘luxury suites’ (in order to have 2 bedrooms) and were put into a room with one bedroom and a living room so my aunt wound up sleeping on a futon (not a nice one). They need to look up the word luxury — there was absolutely nothing luxurious about any part of the hotel or experience. This place is in bad shape- smelled like a sewer, mold, leaking showers, doors that won’t shut, generally dirty, shower faucets loose from the wall in multiple bathrooms, and so on. |We paid $605 dollars a night for this. Really hard to swallow. I feel like I got completely swindled.

Well situated hotel. Friendly helpful staff. We requested a twin bed and were moved after the first to a twin bed. Wish we hadn’t! Twin beds very small and squeaky. Room layout not as good as the first room. Breakfasts not that good. Muesli very sweet, no full fat yoghurts, just fat free ( hence more sugar). Not very nice bread. Plenty of cakes though if that’s what you fancy.

The was very nice and helpful. The rooms are on a fairly busy street with restaurants and stores. There is a produce market on the mezzanine level that begins set up at 3:30 am. They make a lot of noise and are constantly talking/arguing. Don’t expect to get any sleep. The windows in the room do not seal tightly in the frame when closed so the noise comes right through. The rooms need minor repairs and a thorough cleaning. Find another place to stay.

Rooms - We were traveling in a group of 10. In the group of rooms we reserved, there were 2 luxury suites which consisted of 2 rooms/beds and 2 bathrooms for 3 adults in each suite. We ended up getting 1 luxury suite and 1 “upgrade” to an apartment type room (advertises as a 2 person max room) that had 1 bedroom, a living room with 2 couches and 2 bathrooms. After we checked in we talked to the front desk staff and we were told this was an upgrade because it costs more (the logic here is kind hard to follow…). AND, at the time we were “upgraded,” it was not disclosed to us that there would be a 30% price increase per night for the 3rd person (who slept on a couch). We had multiple conversations with the front desk staff about our unhappiness with the room and were never offered a discount OR offered the room we reserved. Building/Location - It’s a great location IF you plan to stay up late. The rooms are advertised as soundproof but you can hear (very clearly) everything going on out on the street. The building and rooms are also in need of repairs…most of our bathrooms had peeling paint and mold in the showers. When we mentioned this to the front desk staff we were told, “no they don’t” even when presented with pictures. In addition to the mold there was a list of other things that needed attention in the rooms and building…too many things to list! Staff/Services - The front desk staff weren’t really focused on our experience (good or bad) and it felt as though they just hoped we’d go away. They often argued our feedback and leaned heavily on their perspective being right and ours being wrong. We used the laundry service while there and were reassured 2 times that if we got it in by a certain time we would have it back same day. Laundry didn’t get returned until the following day. The breakfast staff and the cleaning staff were amazing! Price/Overall - I would put this hotel in the category of a glorified hostel at luxury prices. We travel a lot and don’t need perfect…if some of the issues we encountered were one-offs, it wouldn’t feel like such a terrible experience. There are other options close by that are still centrally located but away from the market (smell), late night crowds (loud) and potentially run by staff who are focused on working on solutions with their customers instead of gaslighting their customers.

We went to the Duomo Suites & SPA for a Spa Package (access to wet area and a 45 min massage for two people for 170 EUR). Everything was well explained and the staff was friendly. The wet area (Turkish bath, sauna & jacuzzi) had nice and modern equipments and was clean. Some things were broken (clothes hooks) and some part of the walls could use a fresh coat of paint to give the place a higher-end feel. The area was very small and the high temperature, high level of humidity in such a small space was a bit much after a while. We stayed there for 1h30 before our masseuse arrived. We had to wait for each other because there was only one masseuse. So total, we each spent almost 2h30 in the wet area, it was too much for us. The hotel is located in a very touristic part of the town so there was a lot of noise. The staff was lovely and the masseuse was very good at her job, so that part I would recommend.

The location is optimal for tourism. The room was comfortable and spacious. There were certain details though, very minor (in the kitchen and on the edge of the floor in the shower), that could be repaired. They have no functional importance, but give a bad impression. The jewel of this place is the staff!! all of them were super friendly, warm, and helpful, the cleaning ladies, the breakfast girl and especially the receptionists. Absolutely 5 stars for all of them

This property is in an excellent location in the middle of all the action. The hotel has seen better days and is showing signs of wear. Despite this it is clean and the room we had was a good size with a micro, small fridge and sink. The room was also quiet despite the busy street and mattress was comfortable.
