I didn't expect to like this place - after all, I don't like the overpoweringly smelly soaps at Lush - but I loved it.
They had a wonderful range of natural smelling products for bath and body, including shampoos, scrubs, moisturizers, conditioners, soaps, washes, face masks, and deodorants. The main display table held piles of glowing and translucent soaps that were hand cut and priced by weight. They smelled enticing and included such skin-friendly ingredients as shea butter, sea salt, olive oil, black clay and aloe.
One of the soap-makers was standing by the table ready to answer questions about the soap-making process, or about the ingredients, or to cut a bar to specified size. After some deliberation I chose one bar that contained goatsmilk, oatmeal, honey, calendula and slippery elm and another that contained strawberry seeds, aloe, and champagne. Both smelled heavenly and didn't burn my nose. I also picked up a bitter almond shower gel with cherry blossom extracts that smells so good that I pause when scrubbing just to breathe in the scent.
Although I didn't buy any I was really intrigued by the aluminum-free deodorants, which are made of a vegetable protein base and come in such scents as moroccan cedar, sandalwood lavender, violet and spiced lime. If they'd only had one in bitter almond I would have snatched it up.
I have to say I was impressed by the customer service - everyone working there was knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. The line moved quickly and items were nicely wrapped in tissue. I came away oddly excited to get home from Philly and treat myself to a soapy shower.
