Hands down the best bookstore in Berlin. Everything is well organized from stationary to books. The atmosphere is so cozy, toilets are always clean. The music section is HUGE, I literally spent hours going through the CDs! If you are a book/music lover it's a must visit. You will not be disappointed!

This is hands down the best bookshop I’ve ever visited—anywhere! From the moment I walked in, I was amazed by the massive selection of books across every genre imaginable. Whether you're into fiction, philosophy, art, travel, or niche subjects, this place has it all. What truly sets this shop apart is its incredibly friendly and helpful staff. There were so many assistants around, always ready with a smile, great recommendations, or guidance to help find exactly what I needed. Their passion for books really shines through! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with cozy reading corners and a layout that makes browsing a joy. If you love books, this is an absolute must-visit in Berlin. I could spend hours (and probably too much money) here! A dream come true for bookworms—highly recommend! 📚✨

Google
Four stories book store which is also kind of a museum with some interesting historical items on display. The place is a nice attraction for roaming tourists, there are lots of comfort seats to read some books or just relax. They also sell souvenirs, musical items, records and clothing.

What an amazing book store. Probably the biggest I have ever been in. Spread over 5 floors with a cafe included. Seeing places like this make me jealous. Something so simple as having seats in the store to be able to relax. The international selection is a absolutely massive! There are toilets in the building and although there was a turnstile for a 50 cent payment it was turned off on my visit which is a bonus. Spent nearly two hours browsing, buying and reading 😁 Also theres a plant based restaurant just outside the store if that's your thing!

Dussmann is usually a fantastic destination for book lovers—the store offers an impressive selection across countless subjects and departments. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was disappointing. I accidentally purchased the wrong title and went back to return it, but the sales associate told me a refund wasn’t possible because the book contained some texture and which is very minor . I explained that the book had been sold to me in that condition, yet they still refused to give my money back and instead steered me toward accepting a gift voucher. I expected a clearer, more customer-friendly return policy from a store of Dussmann’s caliber. The wide range of books is excellent, but this experience left me frustrated.

One of the best bookstores I've ever visited! Cozy atmosphere, amazing selection of books, and a space where you can easily spend hours. A must-visit spot in Berlin for every book lover! 📚

Google
To me, Dussmann is the mall of books and one of my absolute favorite places to stop by every time I’m in Berlin. I love how they organize the books by subject, it makes browsing feel like a little journey through ideas. I can easily spend at least an hour there, getting lost between the shelves.

Google
Really fun to see such a big bookstore. They have a decent size selection of English books too, but there's of course more German books. If you're looking for the English books, go straight when you come in and you will find the signs. You can also walk upstairs where they also have English books and an International books section(French, Arabic and others). If you walk through the International books section they also have more English books on the other side of you look at the books to the right when you come out (Young Adult section). They have a lot of the books that are popular on TikTok for example here.

Yelp
This is heaven for book and music fans. There's a great English section. The music department has a good selection of LPs and CDs.

Yelp
We spent about 2 1/2 hours here today and this store is absolutely *extraordinary*! Not only does it have the largest selection of any bookstore we've ever been to (and that's saying a *lot*), but it also has a huge & incredibly comprehensive selection of CDs and - to a lesser extent - vinyl records. Another terrific aspect is that the store is open from 9 a.m. to *midnight* (it closes at 11:30 p.m. on Saturdays and it's closed all day on Sundays). The store is HUGE, but it doesn't feel anonymous; each section feels like its own little bookstore. There's even a good-sized section (on two floors) called The English Bookshop. Other very positive aspects: There's a generous amount of seating throughout the store, there's a very attractive-looking cafe, and every employee with whom we came into contact was *very* pleasant. Near the end of our visit, we had a wonderful conversation with someone working at the information desk.

Yelp
Colorful selections of books! It's like a playing ground, but for the book lovers! Located centrally downtown, one must check this place out! It's great!

Yelp
This place is awesome! They have so many vinyls, cds, dvd/blurays, and books it will make your head spin! You could easily spend hours walking around this store and exploring all of the nooks and crannies it has to offer. My wife and I found it fun to look at dvd covers with titles that were clearly lost in translation lol. We will be back!

Yelp
I can spend hours and hours checking books, DVDs and vinyl here. Dussmann is the biggest book store for German speaking folk, but if you go to the last floor, you can find a large section of foreign-languages (including Russian). The English book section is at the back of the department store (you need to pass the moleskin section, and elevator on the ground floor and will see the entrance) and I would define it as a separate store. It has 2 floors, the first floor is occupied by historical, political books, and comics! The second floor has fantasy, science, philosophy and economics sections, and books for kids. I would suggest to check German art books as well, as lot of them include English/French translation. It is open till late, it is 7000 sq m over five floors, so be careful not to spend there all you free time and all your money. "All the media under one roof" indeed.

Yelp
I cannot get enough of this place! They have a ridiculous selection of books, calendars, music, and even their own little English bookstore! If you grow hungry from rummaging through the books all day, you can go downstairs to the cafe and grab a bite to eat. This place is a godsend for English speakers in Berlin!

Yelp
This is probably the biggest bookstore I have ever been to in my life! Of course, there are music, movies and other pop cultural merchandise, but nonetheless, this place is HUGE. There is even a shop for just English books, which can be helpful for those abroad (or people like me who are not fluent in German) craving something new and exciting to read in English. It does not have all the classics that one would normally find at a Borders or a Barnes & Noble, but it is a good place to find a lot of novels, reference books, and even television series! Be careful when buying DVDs though because of the region difference! Oh, and I really like that there are the German Monopoly games here (my favourite game ever!)! There are also other board games and stationery supplies too. I could just spend hours here. (:

Yelp
This is 'the' bookstore in Berlin. It's massive and wonderful. Huge selection of German and English books. Lots of seats to rest and browse books. there is also a fabulous cafe/restaurant on the first floor with an incredible living vertical garden.

Yelp
Nothing in Berlin other than bars and clubs is open till midnight? Think again. This "Kulturkaufhaus" opens its doors until ... midnight! Every day but Sunday. That's a big deal to me. I mean, Berlin's a big city, and we're not in the 1970's anymore. Shops should be open late. And this one is. Plus, it's one of the dying breed of bookstores, although I think they do pretty well. Dussmann sells books (German and English), CD's, DVD's, time planners, calendars, newspapers, magazines... you get the idea. Although the place is crazily busy you'll find some quiet corners if you go upstairs. Grab a book or two, sit down, and chill. You're guaranteed to get a break from the bustling Friedrichstrasse and the hip university area nearby pretty quick.

Yelp
Fantastic place for books and music. I heard about this place from a musician and he highly recommended, however I am very disappointed by the staff at the cafe. We sat at our table for 10+ mins, no one came to check on us. One of us got up and asked the main cashier for a menu, she then told us to go back to wait at the table. After another 15-20 minutes of waiting (we also tried multiple times to signal to the staff), it was obvious that other tables were more important.

Yelp
By chance we wandered in a very large book, stationery, and music store looking for postcards of Berlin. Later we read about the German entrepreneur Peter Dussmann, who founded the Dussmann company and also built this KulturKaufhaus, a combination bookstore and place for public readings and concerts with a light-filled atrium. Drawn in by the attractive architecture, we discovered one of Patrick Blanc's stunning vertical gardens in the back. We only had time to admire some of the wonderful details then but will return again for a longer gaze - and make use of the café situated directly in front of the huge wall-turned-garden, especially after discovering another example of Blanc's creations at the CaixaForum in Madrid a couple of months after our Berlin trip.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Berlin. Massive selection of German books, music, and cultural products of every kind, with a paper and gift-wrapping store and a separate English-language bookstore inside. Slightly smaller selections in French, Spanish, and other languages. Though it has great selection of academic and other specialized books in German, the English shop is more geared toward general readers (though it still has something for everyone). Open until midnight every day but Sunday, lots of chairs and cozy reading spots scattered throughout. Prices about the equivalent of Barnes & Noble or any other big new-books store. Accepts credit cards (including chip-less American ones, which is huge).

Yelp
Has to be the largest bookshop with the biggest selection of books around. It's set on multiple floors, each with plenty of sitting places to peruse the books before purchasing. The ground floor has a large section of books on Berlin in not just English and German, but other languages such as Spanish and French. There are also a pretty decent dvd and cd sections, spoken books, manga and kids sections amongst others. There are also a lot of books in English - mostly fiction - popular novels and so on, and some non-fiction - politics, history, and the like. No business books in English though.

Yelp
Nice place to go to after 20.00 pm when all recordstores are closed. Nice selection of new vinyl. Lots of CD's, books and magazines. They even sell turntables and headphones.

Yelp
This is a world-class bookstore, the only other one that I've seen come close was in London. I spent most of my time in the English bookshop in the back by the Sphinx. It has two floors and is very well stocked. If you are looking for English books in Berlin, this is a stop you must make.

Yelp
Awesome book store. Big. Well laid out. Entire dedicated English shop as well.

Yelp
Great selection of music and books. Despite the large size of the store, I was able to find exactly what I needed within a few minutes because everything was so well organized. The prices aren't inflated, either, even though it is in one of the more high-end areas in town.

Yelp
Largest selection of new English books in Berlin (found on the top floor...there's an elevator at the rear of the ground floor if needed).

Yelp
I guess I should rate Dussmann for what it is: a bookshop and music store. However, I'm not interested in bookshops or music stores and definitely wouldn't have gone in if it weren't for my friend being very interested in looking at their classical music collection. What I did do there was go to the toilet. In such a huge, popular store you might expect the toilets to be good. You'd be wrong. For some reason they have seen fit to include a heatlamp in the toilet that took the outside temperature of 35C and magnified that up to about 50C. Not nice.

Yelp
Wonderful bookstore that has multiple floors. I like the layout and design. You can find what you are looking for. When I visited it was open late which is nice. It is close to the U-Bahn and S-Bahn stops.

Yelp
This store has the biggest classical musical selection I've seen anywhere in the world - it occupies a huge floor, contains absolutely everything, all the freshest releases, and is perfectly organized. It's an absolute delight to be able to shop in a store like this in Amazon era. I suppose the book selection is equally amazing - haven't had the time to browse it, unfortunately. Will be back some day!

Yelp
i love being able to come here late at night to look for dvds, books & music rather than during the day when it can be rather crowded. the staff is always helpful & friendly & the selection is great.

Yelp
With mild fanfare, Dussmann's has opened a large new English book section in its glossy megastore. While it purportedly has the largest English inventory in the country, that claim would appear to reflect more on the number of units than the number of titles. Expect roughly the selection of a pre-Borders mall bookstore in the US than of the sort of place you'd while away a rainy afternoon. Dussmann's is out to move volumes, and it's packed both of its floors with current bestsellers and a slim range of popular genres (pop science, cookbooks, sci-fi, etc). This is not the place to find anything old or unfashionable. And for some reason, the sales clerks prefer to speak German. If you're looking for a more specialized or older title, or just want to be surprised by a passionately chosen selection, better to aim for St George's in Prenzlauerberg or Another Country in Kreuzberg. For an acceptable range of airplane reading at full retail price (it is Mitte after all), this is the sleek and central place to go.

Yelp
I just loved this bookstore. It has the greatest selection of English books I've ever seen in Germany. You can also find here every kind of books about Berlin and Germany.

Yelp
I love bookshops and this one in Berlin is a good one. OK, it's big, it's giant and you don't have this intimit feeling which you get maybe at Shakespeare and Company in Paris, but they have a big selectin of english books, even childrens books and it never been a problem ordering english books! Great one!

Yelp
dussmann is definatly one of the best and largest bookstores in berlin. it's just amazing how many books you can actually find there. sometimes i just go there and spend hours walking through it and reading some books. in turns of buying books dussmann is definatly my first choice!!! you can also find many english book there which is why it's often used by tourists to find a good book.

Yelp
They have a selection of English books on history, cuisine, philosophy, children's lit, popular science to name a few. The staff is friendly and helpful. The stationery section is small but covers the basics. DVD section is good. I really don't have much to add to the positive reviews in here, this bookstore deserves it all.

Yelp
Visited Dussmann last month in Berlin - what a fabulous store...fantastic stock of classical CDs and DVDs. Its comforting to know such a store still exists. I'll visit there every time I go "over the pond" to Germany. - Raymond Jones, Norfolk VA in the USA

Yelp
Large bookshop that's about as close to Barnes & Noble as you'll get here in Berlin (for those of you from the U.S.). The good news is that you can usually have them order books that are not in the shop. The bad news is that 1) It's sometimes more cost and time effective to order online, and 2) Dussmann is sometimes just too crowded to be a pleasant shopping/reading experience. Their lovely new English section is a big draw, though, so it's definitely worth a regular visit. Oh, and the sheet music section? Heaven!
