"Housed in a century‑old Edwardian home, this charming B&B has a massive, stunning house with large, light‑filled rooms (some with hill views, others with patios or garden views), exceptionally welcoming owners, and a delicious breakfast featuring fresh fruit and pastries served in a dining room with gorgeous surrounding views." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Christchurch (Updated 2025)

"Set in a century-old Edwardian-style home, I found this charming B&B to be a massive, stunning house with large rooms that invite in lots of natural light; some rooms have beautiful views of the nearby hills, while others have patios or garden views. The owners are especially welcoming and helpful and go out of their way to ensure an exceptional stay, and the included breakfast is delicious with lots of fresh fruit and pastries enjoyed in a dining room with gorgeous views. Rooms have underfloor heating, comfortable beds with mattress toppers, luxurious bathrooms with walk-in showers and high-end bath products, and there are complimentary in-room snacks available too; it’s my favorite B&B in the area." - Matthew Kepnes

Angie & Barry are great hosts and their guesthouse is fabulous! We spent our first 2 nights in New Zealand at Dyers House upon landing in Christchurch. It's the perfect place to climatize to NZ hospitality. Our bedrooms were super comfy and the breakfast was sumptuous. The view of Christchurch city was beautiful from the hill on which the house sits. A quiet neighbourhood. Would highly recommend this guesthouse for anyone looking for a homely feel instead of settling for a hotel.

Our Dyers House experience was supurb! Angie and Barry exceeded all expectations as hosts. They were both so gracious and generous. Angie's breakfasts filled us up until dinner time. The table was beautifully set and the food outstanding. The house is charming and very clean. The gardens are peaceful and well maintained. Angie provided a nice selection of beverages and snacks for us to take at our leisure. Everything was top notch quality. Barry picked us up and dropped us off at the airport--an unnecesary but appreciated gesture. When we return to Christchurch, we will definitely return to Dyers House. I have no hesitation to recommed the Dyers House to anyone wishing a luxurious, historical and peaceulf experience.

I had spent ages googling “ Luxury Christchurch Accommodation”, and time and time again, Dyers House came up.||||We booked the garden room. Check in was warm and easy - Barry and Angela met us at the front door, and instantly made us feel like very special guests. As we were shown to our room, the scent of fresh flowers wafted thru the house. This historic home has been renovated with no expense spared, and so many special touches, I’m sure I will forget to mention some. ||||Our room and bathroom were HUGE! The bedroom had elegant and exquisite furnishings, a bed that was divine, and a terrace straight off it where we had afternoon tea as we watched the birds flying around their divine garden ( a garden filled with lilacs, rhododendrons, bearded iris, cherry trees etc.) Beyond the garden lies sweeping views over Christchurch. Back to our room - our bathroom was incredible….everything heated, including the floor. Massive walk in shower, fluffy and soft bath towels, exquisite decor.||||Breakfast - this literally blew our minds - pastries, muffins, variety of yoghurts, fruit, including rare and exotic…cheeses, cold meats, the list went on and on. Barry made us piping hot coffee, while Angela spoilt us rotten! ||||The hosts - Barry and Angela just love hosting people from around the world, and love spoiling them too. Both have had interesting careers that have taken them all over the globe - they have amazing stories to share, we found them to be caring, thoughtful hosts that could not do enough to make your stay as perfect as possible. The scenic location is worth the stay alone, but given the close proximity down the hill of great restaurants to chose from for dinner, added to the fact your room is divine, the hosts just lovely, and the magnificent breakfast - make this your first and only choice for Christchurch. Oh - and did I mention the afternoon tea? We sat on a private terrace, covered in roses, and ate the most divine gateaux and sweet treats. Shame I can only give them 10/10, they deserve more!

We had a very pleasant stay in this lovely home. Angela and Barry were very welcoming and great hosts. Gorgeous fresh cakes and pastries greeted us when we arrived on a bleak Christchurch afternoon. Our spirits were soon heightened after making a lovely cuppa (so many choices I lost count) served in beautiful china. Our room was splendid opening out to the garden and would have been well used on a nicer afternoon. We loved the atmosphere and our visits by Erik, the friendly feline. The continental breakfast was plentiful with good choices. Unfortunately we only enjoyed a one-night-stay but highly recommend.

We had a fabulous 6 night stay at this wonderful B & B. This wonderfully refurbished beautiful house has three rooms with their own bath and outside patio. Furnishings are luxuriess with quality linen, comfortable bed, even a heated floor in the bathroom. The views are wonderful looking down upon Christ Church. Angela puts together a quality breakfast to start each day to travel from this central location. If you have not got a car no problem as Barry will pick you up whether it is the airport, the alpine train, or wherever. Snacks and drinks are always available for you and Angela insures that you get a tasty cake or pastry for afternoon tea.||What makes this place so special are the wonderful hosts, Angela and Barry! We arrived as strangers and left as friends. They did everything they could to insure that we had the best visit possible.||If ever we are in Christ Church again we know where we will stay, The Dyers House.

We spent 3 nights at Dyers House and it was just grand. Angela and Barry are wonderful hosts who want to do everything possible to make your stay with them exceptional. Our guest room was very warm, comfotable and inviting, the breakfast was excellent and the views from the house were beautiful. They have a lovely garden full of flowers that is very peaceful and relaxing. While a bit from the center of town it more then makes up for it by hosts that are superb and an atmosphere that makes you feel at home Vs being a guest. Forget those other places, go home to Dyers House!

l recently had the pleasure of staying in this gem of a boutique guest house and could not have been made to feel more welcome. Owners and hosts Barry and Angela treated me with such warmth and made me feel a part of their Family from the moment l arrived until sadly l had to leave. The home itself is beautiful with lovely finishing touches that really did enhance what was already a 'little taste of luxury'. l cannot praise Dyers House and Barry and Angela enough and can only finish by saying.. a very big thank you and l do hope to see you both and stay in your lovely home once again.
