Inside the Hunts Point Produce Market After the Strike

"A third-generation merchant acknowledges some layoffs but characterizes them as limited, says business has been very slow during the pandemic, and expresses gratitude for employees who continued working (estimating around 75 percent stayed on the job). The owner criticized the timing of the strike, said merchants had proposed keeping the contract unchanged until 2022, and noted the business secured a Paycheck Protection Program loan while also claiming the market generally abides by proper procedures and has not historically had major issues with the union." - Alexandria Misch

They start taking paperwork at 8am Sunday morning, it is closed before that. Guys were friendly and professional, Washington was very helpful and organized. fast unload once I got to the dock. its hunts point market so its chaotic but thats expected

Broker told me delivery is Sunday morning at 8, checked in at 7am, receivers told me it will take all day, waited until 9pm and the night shift receiver that started at 7pm, very agitated and stressed out said that he does not know when they will take me in, he works until 5am, afterwards day shift starts at 8am again, 3 hour gap. He added that best chances are with the morning shift guy again, same one that took my paperwork in the first place. Parking sucks, you go all the way in the back between truck & trailers, super tight spaces, trash everywhere, no cleaning crew that is for sure, but there is a restaurant inside the facility at building C, closes at 5pm or so. Overall experience not very fun, losing a load already based on false promises, waiting all day and paid $30 dollars for entrance fee here. Only go here if the load is paid extremely good, otherwise you are better off anywhere else in my opinion. Been to New York many years and still surprised how in all the chaos I have seen that this is functional and normal.

If you're coming from i95 stay left on the bridge and take Edgewater to avenue A the market entrance will be on ur left $30 for 4&5 axles CASH or atm with fee Once u enter make 1 left then right. It's gated here so bring food as they take very long to unload. OVNP available if loaded . I got kicked out at 3am because I was empty

DONT COME HERE. I repeat don’t come here. They will not unload you and you will miss your load for next day. Only come here if you getting paid for 2 days

If they don’t need your product, you going to wait long. 12 hours to get unloaded. Don’t care about appointment, not FCFS. The bold guy that sits in the booth, thinks he is a big shot. Rude, don’t want to talk to you. But for some reason some trucks got in and out quickly.

Unfortunately, I had a really bad experience at the check-in. Before I could even ask anything, the guy started yelling, saying he had 7 trucks ahead of me. Very unprofessional!!!!

On Sunday they open at 8am. And not before that. And no need to stand in line like 7am. So when they came if they need your load early they will take it otherwise you have to wait

It’s been 13 hours they still don’t have room for my load and other drivers as well wow There should be a negative rating
