Have came to beck’s throughout my whole life. Food has always been consistently great. Came recently and got the beck burger. Always a staple. Cooked great as always. My most recent visit was not the best. Service was slower and order got messed up. Hence the 4 stars. Only complaint is the way the restaurant is set up. The dining section around the bar can become difficult depending on Crowd. The back dining area is basically a dungeon. Overall however. Great food. Best restaurant in downtown Sykesville

Come on down to downtown Sykesville! Spend the afternoon shopping Main Street then stop at Beck's for a meal. Friendly staff, great food. About a 20 min wait on a busy Friday night. Love that they partner with local businesses to provide fresh ingredients. It was a busy night out and the room's acoustics are already so-so, and there was a medium sized party with multiple loud children. We actually considered leaving because of the noise they were making. Once they left, it was much more tolerable. This is not the restaurant's fault, of course. Just a heads up that it could happen. Love this little local business. Catering also available.

I had high hopes for EW Becks. We ate here last week thinking that a nice small place in the historic district would be a good place to get some lunch with some quality food. We were unfortunately mistaken. I thought the dining room would be a cool pub like environment, but it was just drab and depressing. The LEMON & PARMESAN ENCRUSTED SALMON was a bit bland but okay. Nothing great and definitely not worth nearly $19. The real loser was the Supreme Nachos. I mean, literally nothing good to say about it. The cheese is just cold, hard shredded cheese. The chicken on it was tough and bland. No moisture at all so it was impossible to tear pieces apart. The most hilarious part was that it was baked on top of "wax" paper, but the cheese stuck to it like glue so you always got bits of paper with your cheese. Then there's the service. Although the server was sorta friendly, we rarely saw her. They weren't that busy so I'm not sure what the issue was. I finally had to track her down to get my check. I definitely do not recommend this place. I'm sure at one point they were great, but you could tell it's best days are behind it.

Had really awesome nachos with chili on it. Also had a food mock tail and Sykesville monster drink. They have a extensive drink list and we enjoyed all the food we had. We were in a back room, so the atmosphere was not perfect.

Google
The food was delicious, cool vibes, friendly service. The festive cocktails were so good, too. I'll definitely be back to try more of the unique menu items. I'd definitely order the Chicken BLT waffle again. And the wings were delicious, too.

Google
We had the wings, which were really good. Well seasoned and cooked through. But the short ribs? Absolutely delicious, they bring a knife but not needed. The asparagus and cole slaw, also excellent. Busy for a summer Sunday afternoon, but excellent service.

Yelp
EW Beck's is the best restaurant in downtown Sykesville! Always came here growing up, and got to visit when I was in town again this past weekend. The service is always great, and the food is always delicious! I'm a huge fan of all things crab and Beck's is one of the best for it. Cream of Crab Soup: 10/10 Crab Dip: 10/10 Chesapeake Burger (Burger with crab dip on top): 10/10 My husband had the Bao Bun special and loved it. Our friend had the chicken and waffle sandwich which he also really liked! Can't wait to be back!

Yelp
It's difficult to identify this as a restaurant on the Main Street in Sykesville for a visitor. Signage is not great. We wanted to sit outside because it was such a nice day. Very nice outside patio and there are two which was interesting. Once we got seated we noticed the flies and bees flying around others seated on the patio. We sat and waited for longer than normal period but once the server came she was pleasant and took our order. Upside is the food came quickly and was hot. I had the pulled pork sandwich which tasted good. It was advertised to come with an onion ring which it didn't. The house made pimento cheese was lost in pork. My wife's chicken club was unwieldy and fell apart as she tried to eat it. The most disappointing part of our lunch was the constant fighting off of flies and bees. It made it difficult to enjoy our lunch and have drink on a nice day.

Yelp
This restaurant is super cozy and the vibe is chill and welcoming. It has been around since the early 90s, and feels like a hometown bar like 'Cheers.' The food was excellent. I was starving so I started with MD crab soup. Honestly the best crab soup I have ever had. The servers on the floor were very attentive and welcoming. Shoutout to our server Sydney! My friend and I got lunch... cheeseburger with fries and loaded nachos. If you order the nachos, the serving is huge, enough for 2-3 people. I can't wait to go back. The food was great and there are tvs everywhere to watch any game on tv.

Yelp
Woefully mediocre food with real Live salt of the Earth townies and disinterested waitstaff!! Boring salad, flabby undercooked wings. You've been warned!

Yelp
Solid place for dinner on the Sykesville Main St strip. Great food and service. I really enjoyed my Caesar salad with grilled chicken here. The croutons were amazing! I think they were smothered with garlic butter. The chicken was great, but I wish there was more of it. However, the salad portion was huge, definitely shareable for 2 people. My girlfriend enjoyed her short rib with the mashed potatoes, and her parents enjoyed the quesadilla app and brueleed sandwich special. I tried the short rib and it was quite tasty, with a sweet tang to it. The service was also great here, very community oriented and personable. I had a great time at Becks!

Abigail M.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and it is a never-fail spot. The crab wontons are my favorite appetizer, and the burgers are to die for - but I also love trying their specials menu. Most recently, I tried the short rib special that came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It was delicious! The parmesan crusted short rib melted in my mouth, the crust offered the perfect crunch, and the sides complemented it perfectly. My dad and I also opted for the swordfish taco appetizer and it was great! The sweet and salty crema and corn salsa was a perfect pairing and it was a great portion for two. 100% worth a stop for anyone ever in Sykesville, always my go-to when I'm home, and where I recommend everyone to try if they're visiting the area!

Yelp
We had some good food here yesterday. The waffles and chicken sandwich and chicken club were very good. The outside seating was nice, but a lot of flies and bees unfortunately. The service was a 2. I never was asked for a refill on drinks and it took too long to be served when we first arrived. Our fries came out cold and had to corrected (which they did).

John C.

Yelp
Went there for brunch 12/29/24 had cream of crab soup and a Chesapeake burger both very tasty French fry's were great worth the price , bartender knows how to make a good bloody Mary Yes I will visit again

Mark M.

Yelp
Food and service was pretty good. One member of our party ordered the chili and said it was the worst chili he has ever eaten. The crab dip is very good and the burgers were excellent.

Neal J.

Yelp
I have never had a bad meal at EW Becks! Great service with a smile and tasty food in a decent atmosphere.

Jerri Lyn D.

Yelp
We stopped by for a light bite. Great options on the menu - I got the Poutine appetizer and it was exactly what I needed - husband got the burger and he was happy. Nice ambience, old school neighborhood bar and menu was interesting! We need to come back for a meal. Loved that it is a local bar/restaurant.

Katie M.

Yelp
Rachel and Alyssa are awesome! We stopped in for dinner tonight and sat at the bar. Rachel is super bubbly and greeted us right away and got us our drinks. Alyssa checked on us after we got our food and was very friendly and happy. We got the ribeye sandwich and the smash burger-- both were good but the smash burger was delicious, def recommend. We will be back!

R. K. R.

Yelp
This place deserves more stars! Went here for lunch. Waitress was attentive. Atmosphere was nice- had a historic ambiance. The food was good! I got the sandwich brulee, where they made the outside of a hot turkey sandwich crispy with sugar, like creme brulee. I love it when a chef takes a risk and tries something creative and pulls it off. I was a little skeptical but it was good! Fries and coleslaw were also good. My husband got the bbq sandwich and it had an onion ring on it. I'm from the south and have had a lot of BBQ sandwiches, and I can't believe ive never had that before- another tasty innovation. We'll be back for sure!

Steven N.

Yelp
Our visit tonight left much to be desired. The host that led us to our table was great and got drinks and an appetizer started for us while our waitress was busy. After that things began to flop. Two of our orders were very lackluster. It would be 15 minutes at times we wouldn't see our waitress. Just didn't feel like the whole experience wasn't worth the costs.

Sadie S.

Yelp
The Cream of Crab Soup was amazing I would put it on everything as a sauce if I could. Shrimp Salad Sandwich was delicious. Also enjoy a mocktail menu anywhere when available. We were seated immediately during weekend lunch time outside with great weather. Service was great and it was cute ambiance.

Pamela S.

Yelp
Our waitress was AMAZING! I got the Rock fish yummy. The burgers are great! The crab wontons so good!

Emkay K.

Yelp
Been twice now and have had a great experience both times. Outdoor patio(s) are spacious, I cannot speak to indoors, I've only been to the patio. The brûlée'd melt is delicious, I know it a seasonal menu item but please don't get rid of it!! The salads were very good too. Jake L. was our server yesterday and was wonderful, very friendly and attentive! Will definitely be back.

Katie H.

Yelp
Great place to grab a bite if you're up this way. I'm glad they have kids meal options because that makes my life easier. I swiped a few of their fries - they are a thicker cut with a good crunch and seasoning! We tried one of their current specials - pizza fries. The fries were waffle cut which was fun! Definitely loaded with plenty of cheese and some pepperoni - yum! I also got the Cobb salad. It had all the good stuff you want in a Cobb PLUS honey mustard pretzels for a crunch of flavor! The service was friendly and I know we'll be back again!

Carly S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a bite to eat around 5pm on 11/1/2024. Ordered beverages. The Orange Crush arrived at the table with a dead fly floating at the top. Makes you think twice about the kitchen and the food prep.

Yelp
We were out antiquing and ended up near Sykesville at lunch time. The RR restaurant was closed because Main Street was being dug up right in front. So we ended up at E W Becks. We decided on this because we ended up in their parking lot because of the Main Street road work detoured us that way. The entry way was a little dark and to reach the hostess desk, we went down two flights of stairs. But the place was cozy, pub like, and filled with a decent number of guests. So, our confidence in our choice was bolstered. The staff were delightful. The food was wonderful!  My guy had the hot Italian sub and I had the rib eye roast beef sub. He really enjoyed the flavor mix of the meats and veggies. Mine just melted in my mouth and was so perfectly seasoned I didn't even look for salt or pepper. My guy also had the Maryland crab soup that he declared to be the best he'd had in months. With soft drinks and tip it cost less than $60 which is not too dear. Especially when you add the enjoyment factor!

R G.

Yelp
Love Becks! They were busy today. Food took forever but we weren't in a rush. Rachel our server did everything right! Such a great personality and an asset to that establishment. We got the waffle but and prime rib au jus. Had to get the wings and they were so good we got a second order. Ghost sauce is the best I've had. Food and Rachel rocked!

Jerald B.

Yelp
Great place to stop midway in my travels. I haven't had a bad dish yet. The staff is lovely and attentive and the place has a unique charm to it.

Anna W.

Yelp
We live in walking distance. Have been going here for almost 20 years. Great service and food

Jordan S.

Yelp
Best place in town. HANDS DOWN. Knowledgeable about GF options. High quality food with large portions. Go there as often as we can

David W.

Yelp
E W Becks pub, great place, first time going for lunch really wasn't sure what to order, the burger looked really good, but I wanted something a little different, so I landed on the fish is chips, I wasn't disappointed at all, fish wasn't greasy at all and had a very nice flavor, fries nicely seasoned. Service was really good, our server always checked on us to make sure everything was ok and asked if we needed anything. Great Pub

R C.

Yelp
Terrific food and excellent service! Although they always seem busy customer service is always good and the food is always good. We like the fireplace seating when it's cold out to keep warm and makes for a family friendly, comfortable environment.

Jackie A.

Yelp
Coming back from a Lavender event in Sykesville, my grumbling tummy and Yelp, lead me to EW Beck's, for some pub chow. I started off with their crab soup. It's similar how I make it, with lots of fresh veggies - crabmeat was sparse, though and it was a tad salty - downing this review from five, to four stars. On to their rendition of Little Italy's Bookmaker Salad and I opted for the Basil Feta Vinaigrette, instead of the Caesar dressing. An nice amount of fat, perfectly steamed shrimp, atop fresh, crisp romaine and salad fixings (olives, tomatoes, red onions, cukes, pepperoncini), with strips of cheese, salami, ham - doused with that tingly, cheesy, cilantro, lime dressing - yum! I am looking forward to returning, to try different offerings.

Jesse Y.

Yelp
I recently visited this place after over a decade long hiatus. Glad I did!! My wife had a ribeye roast beef sandwich, a.k.a. French dip, and she said it was delicious. I got the smash burger, but I don't know that it was actually smashed and my bun was a bit dry. That said fries were good and the Smith Island Cake was amaze balls, no cap!

Natalya S.

Yelp
Nice location with outdoor seating and good atmosphere inside. The service was good and a manager checked on us. Unfortunately the food was subpar. My cheesesteak wrap was grisly and lacked flavor. The Beck's salad only had pale romaine lettuce with a few cucumbers and tomatoes throw in. They do have a good drink menu so we may return to the bar, but skip the kitchen.

Kay-Lee H.

Yelp
We visited this restaurant on a Thursday night around 6:30 and it was very busy and therefore loud! Luckily, our service was still great. Our food and drinks came quickly and our server was attentive. The appetizers were awesome - definitely recommend the crab wontons! The chicken in our entrees seemed a little overdone, but it was still really good. Overall, I'd return but maybe not during dinner rush just because we had to raise our voices for conversations.

Joe F.

Yelp
Food was fair not something to rave about Not a place I would try again. Service was good.

Latoya J.

Yelp
First off I would like to express how great the food and service was. My family and I dined at "Beck's" on Saturday March 9th for lunch, we had plans on going to Ellicott city, however we stumbled upon E.W. Beck's 's while searching on Google and judging by the reviews we wanted to check the restaurant out. We also wanted to try a few of the dishes we saw on line. Fast forward upon arrival we were a bit, speculate about the area, we haven't been to the area before, so we were also looking for representation. When we first arrived the host was great, we were sat immediately. I was looking around the restaurant just to see if we saw anyone that looked like us, and lord behold we saw a beautiful African American server walked by, we were very happy to see her, she looked at us(we were not her table) and with the most sincere smile she said "hello" to us. Were felt right at home. There was an disturbing incident I observed, while sitting at the table, I saw the same African American employee at the computer, I saw a white older lady come by the computer next to the employee and gave her a nasty look and then put her shirt over her nose!!! I was SHOCKED, I had to turn to my two daughters, one being an adult, my other daughter in her teens, and asked them both to observe exactly what I was observing just to make sure I wasn't losing my marbles. And also the lawyer in me wanted to look further into this so on purpose I kept my eye on the African-American employee, and also look to see if this older white employee was doing it to anyone else. We stayed at the restaurant for quite some time and after observing this woman, I realize she was only doing it to this beautiful African-American young girl. There was a moment where there was a gentleman walking around I'm assuming he was the manager asking was everything OK, we said all was okay, but I really wanted to ask him. Did he ask his employee was she OK? Because as it seems it was obvious, there was some tension with that woman towards this black employee. Later on, I saw the same employee joking with this manager by the computer, as the African-American employee walked by, the lawyer in me wanted to stop her so badly and give her my card. I was so disturbed by what I saw , we left after eating. I wanted to stop her a few times while she was walking by just to speak with her and ask her was she OK and how was she doing but she was very busy. Sad to say we will not be returning to this restaurant I've never written a review before my daughters usually do but after talking about this situation I seen since Saturday I couldn't let it go , I'm hoping this young lady sees this review and find her worth and leave that place, as we were looking at her she looked as if something was bothering her. Do better Management, as a African American women with black daughters seeing this behavior, and having parents and grandparents during the Jim Crow era in the south this really hit home. We would be returning.

Linda G.

Yelp
My 95 year old mom wanted a good Reuben, so we searched three counties for the best and found it at E. W. Beck's in Sykesville. She loves to show the rest of us her sandwich and say "look at all that meat!!" My brother and I prefer the salmon and spinach salad, which has a great combo of ingredients and an awesome dressing. On an earlier occasion my husband had the Hot Italian which was chock full of tasty meats and cheeses. All of us loved the Maryland Crab Soup. The people are kind and generous. (And sometimes just a bit forgetful, so doublecheck that you have in your bag all that you ordered, if you are doing carryout.)

Richard P.

Yelp
Varied menu. Friendly service. More than just a bar and bar food. A Sykesville must do.

Tom N.

Yelp
The food and service were both very good. We had the nachos, turkey club, and salmon. Would recommend them all. Nice beer selection as well.

Erwin R.

Yelp
A truly neighborhood experience. Great food and awesome ambiance. Go to Beck's after 7 pm and it will feel like the entire neighborhood is there.

David M.

Yelp
I ended up hear almost exclusively because we were looking for a changing table. They have a family bathroom and a large fold out changing table - so props to the establishment! However, once there, we ordered lunch. Mine was mediocre. "But... you gave it five stars" - I did. It's because of everyone else's meal was amazing. The crab cakes, they're to die for - I should have read Yelp first. My order: the Crab chowder and an order of Poutine. The Crab Chowder was okay - not great. It was made in the style of a new england clam chowder, but the crab just didn't stand up to the cream. Not bad, but forgettable. The Poutine: It was made with these amazing house made "tator tots" - bigger, tastier and more wonderful than what you're thinking. They should have stopped there. Next, they put on cheese - not cheese curds, but Gruyere. I mean... I love gruyere, but it's not a strong cheese, so when you pour this salted overpowering gravy on top, it melts and you loose any of its flavor - not to mention the flavor of the tator tots. They threw some bulled beef short rib on top - which was good, but also largely over powered by that gravy. Tone down the gravy, get sharper cheese curds and this could be amazing. The rest of the table all got items with some variation of a crab cake in it. This is where the five stars comes in. This was fresh picked crab. You could taste the fatty flavor that gets lost in the canning process (and usually in the frying process). I don't know how it held together, there was hardly any filler. I'm willing to go back to Sykesville JUST for the crab cakes (okay, and ice cream, bookstore and children's consignment shop)

Sarah E.

Yelp
Have been a couple times and the food and service are always solid. My party ordered the cheesesteak (4/5), the chicken caesar wrap (4/5), and the italian sub (2/5, the bread was burnt). The fries are always amazing.

Sj B.

Yelp
Absolutely crowded and stinky in the restaurant. The vibe is very off. The waiting staff takes a very long time which is excusable expect when you have to wait an hour and a half for a side salad. A total wait time of 3 hours for our entire meal and then we were rushed out. Once we finally got our food it was undercooked, cold, and I don't want to believe it but saliva. All of the wings we ordered were the wrong thing. I ordered the crab Mac and cheese and there was no crab at all, just watery pene noodles with cold cheese. I have gone here multiple times before and it is like this every time. Disgraceful since it is a little pricey.

Owais T.

Yelp
Great spot in Sykesville. I would totally recommend on a weeknight. Great food selections !

Bryant H.

Yelp
Great neighborhood restaurant with great food and atmosphere. The Crab Wontons are a great appetizer, and the Voodoo pasta packs a great kick. Great place to go with family!

Douglas H.

Yelp
Great place to eat and spend quality time Sets in a cozy little town. Not a hard place to find and plenty of parking.

Jenna W.

Yelp
Great restaurant in the area! Very popular and I now know why, their food is delicious. They have both a large inside and outside seating area, so our wait was only about 15mins. You can also call ahead and ask to be put on their waiting list. Our waitress came to our table right away to take our drink orders and make her recommendations on which meals to order. As an appetizer, we ordered the Old Bay wings. They were good! The skin was crispy and the meat tender inside. The dry rub Old Bay seasoning was flavorful and had a slight kick. I thought the wings were a little small, but that helped not fill up before the main dinner. For my meal, I ordered the Chesapeak Burger. It was incredibly delicious! The burger patty was topped with a large scoop of fresh crab dip, melty cheddar cheese, and Old Bay mayo. All of the flavors blended perfectly and truly brought out the best of Maryland in a single dish. It also came with a side of fries that were seasoned nicely. Definitely recommend coming here for lunch or dinner. They have so many options on their menu and I hope to try more in the future.

Bill F.

Yelp
This is one of the best places in town. The menu is full of perfectly made dishes and the chefs specials are unique and delicious! You have to try this place

Corrin W.

Yelp
This place is such a great meeting spot for good food and friends. My favorites are the crab dip and crab cake sandwich. I've heard many people rave about the burgers and this chicken & waffles. The kiddos love the menus with crayons while they chow down on cheeseburgers, chicken tenders and fries. Great drink menu. Outdoor seating. On the weekends I recommend calling ahead to put your name on the waitlist. They will add you up to 45 minutes before you arrive.

Joe M.

Yelp
Out of 5 Stars Service: 4 Cleanliness: 3 Food: 3.5 Beer Selection: 3 Overall: 3.5 Comment: Nice draft selection. Had the Cream of crab soup and it was quite good. Nice chunks of crab and very flavorful. Then had the Shrimp tacos and they were good. Not awesome but good. Overall the place had a friendly atmosphere, friendly service and the food was good. I'd visit again.

John W.

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant was great. The staff and greeter was very nice. Our waiter was welcoming and attentive, making fabulous food and drink recommendations (just ask). The food was fresh and awesome, with many great choices. They have constantly rotating draft beers from sours to stouts and everything in between. Great bourbon drinks and a seasonal menu to always bring in fresh new options. Great atmosphere with really nice people. If you stop by Sykesville be sure to try this place out. If you live in Sykesville, no need to read this...I'm sure you already know.

Bob D.

Yelp
Good food and drink. Moderately priced. Accepts coupons. Professional staff. Clean restaurant and bar. I'm recommending this restaurant.
