The Hosts: A childhood friend and I stayed at the Eaglenest B&B from Friday-Sunday. I originally made all arrangements with the host - Julie - via email. When we hit a snag on Friday and our check in was delayed, Julie and Jim were very accommodating. We didn't arrive until nearly 8pm, but Jim came out to greet us and give us the grand tour. Saturday morning, we sat with the other guests for a divine breakfast, courtesy of Jim (and included in your stay). This wasn't some dinky continental breakfast - I'm talking fresh squeezed juice, cider, coffee, and a breakfast worthy of any gourmet restaurant. On our way to horseback riding, we encountered some car trouble, and Julie happily picked us up, dropped us off at our appointment, and dealt with the car while we were riding. She then picked us up and dropped us back off at the car, all the while smiling and being incredibly kind and helpful. Sunday morning, it was much of the same: a delicious breakfast and a bit of relaxing on the deck. Would come back over and over again.
The Room(s): We stayed in the Summer room, which was perfect for two. It had a cute electric fire place, a massive bathroom, and two slices of apple pie waiting for us at check in. The hosts do a clean-up around noon for a nice "hotel" maid-service vibe. We peeked into the other rooms and they all seem spacious and clean. We never really heard or saw the other guests except at breakfast. Note that there are only single-bed rooms, so it's great if you're a couple or two friends/family members who don't mind sharing a bed.
The Amenities: You better be a dog lover. There are five beautiful and boisterous golden retrievers that will melt your heart, along with (I think) three cats. They're all well behaved and sweet as (apple) pie. Breakfast is served at 9am family style, and the quality was grade A. Free wifi in the guest quarters. Note, the main house and the guest house (with the B&B rooms) are separated, so your hosts are always near, but not in the same space. I was a fan of this set up. There's parking in the driveway, a fridge stocked with drinks and ice cream, redvines, candies, cookies, and bowls of jelly beans throughout the house. You have access to the living room, pantry, patio deck, and pool/hot tub, so there's plenty of room to spread out. There's also a small bookshelf and DVD shelf to keep you entertained on your stay.
The Location: Julian is tiny, so you're really only about one-two walking blocks from the good wineries, eateries, gift shops, and bakeries. Don't leave without some more pie!
A fantastic B&B with hosts that love to to help. Highly recommend.
