Eagle's Lighthouse Cafe is such a special spot! There's something really unique about it. The setting is beautiful and the outdoor seating is so charming and relaxing. The coffee was great and I'm already excited about all the variety on the menu to explore on my next visit. I got the breakfast bowl and wow, the portion was super generous! I also couldn't stop eyeing their pastries. They looked amazing and I'm definitely trying one next time. The cafe was busy the whole time I was there with a constant flow of people coming in and out, which just shows how popular it is. Can't wait to go back soon!

We stayed in Volcano for two nights while on the Big Island and the first place we ate at was Eagle’s Lighthouse Cafe. Came at around 9 AM on a Friday and they weren’t busy. The ordering area is very small and only suits a few people so be warned. They do however have a decent amount of tables outside. The lady who took our order was nice. I got the Breakfast Croissant with bacon and also got a Cinnamon roll to try out. Overall, everything was great! The sandwich was hot and fresh, and the cinnamon roll was super tasty. Overall, if you’re in the village of Volcano getting hungry for a quick bite, this place will suit you well! I’ll be back.

We spontaneously stopped by for breakfast after we had left the Volcanoes National Park. This cafe is truly unique. It was lovely decorated with christmas ornaments. After washing our hands outside the buildung (they kindly ask you to do that, which is ok) we entered the small cafe and were very friendly welcomed. Our quiche and the bean soup were wonderful. There is a covered patio where you can enjoy your meals. A great and unique place we can highly recommend.

I was on my way to hike at HVNP but was too lazy to make a sandwich. I stopped here and ordered a tuna on cranberry walnut bread to go. What was really great was the way the kind girl tightly wrapped the sandwich in paper and sealed it in a baggy. Perfect to go in my backpack! And wow, it was delicious. Very gourmet. The way the sweet from the cranberry bread complimented the spicy from the radish sprouts was awesome. Also, it was so big, I got two meals out of it. What I liked best was how quickly my meal was freshly made to my order. If you are looking for wholesome food and don't have a lot of time to wait, I highly recommend Eagles. They had homemade soups and chili that smelled wonderful too!

Friendly staff. Small menu, but something for everyone. Fresh vegs for sandwiches- had the veggie sandwich. Others had the Portuguese bean soup- they said it was so good and the bread bowl was great. Don’t go to the bathroom until after lunch; it’s not the cleanest bathroom.

Google
Great place to pick up take out or sit outside on the picnic tables (very casual out door area). Their POG juice was amazing especially after our hikes and so was their macaroni salad. The sandwich was bigger than expected. The lady that helped us was extremely friendly and helpful, and instantly made us feel like family.

Its a one of a kind genuine hole in the wall. Just to say you have been here one must go! Fun and friendly service with loads of parking. Just take into account one "1" person at a time allowed in!

I had the vegetarian chili yesterday. The salt and spice balance was perfect, especially on a cold(ish), rainy day! My pick today was the artichoke and sun-dried tomato quiche and that was excellent, too! Everyone in my family loved the food. Water was $1/bottle which was unbeatable… I’ll definitely be back on my next visit to the. Volcanoes NP. Mahalo from upstate NY 🙏

Yelp
Great breakfast spot close to Volcano National Park! We stopped two days in a row! Highly recommend the fried rice bowl or breakfast sandwich! Great family owned place! Can't recommend it enough! Stop in you will not be disappointed or leave hungry!

Yelp
Fried rice for breakfast...heck yes! The location close to volcanos national park can't be beat. Friendly service as well!

Yelp
Dish: Breakfast Plate with Bacon, Sausage, and Eggs Rating: 7/10 (Atmosphere: 10/10) The service was incredibly sweet and kind, and the portions were generous--perfect for a hearty breakfast. We sat outside and soaked up the morning sun, which made the experience even better. Good spot before going on the 4 mile crater hike!

Yelp
Sandwiches are really good. Fresh bread and ingredients. Not a huge selection but one of the few places open on a Monday in the Volcano National Park area.

Yelp
When we booked our stay near Volcano, this was the place I was most excited to visit. The soup had a richness that grew with every bite, and the croissant was exactly as I had imagined. Before leaving, all I could think about was how I wanted to try more of their menu. Their early morning opening and early afternoon closing times felt like a unique charm to me.

Yelp
In the middle of small town of Volcano, they serve simply prepared foods for reasonable price. We stopped here for breakfast and I was craving rice and eggs. I poured some soy sauce over the white rice and dug into the layers of hams, bacons, eggs over hot rice. Yum! After eating lots of sandwiches and burgers, this simple plate really hit the spot. Store shelves and refrigerated showcases are neatly organized but this place is very cozy so be mindful not to overcrowd inside.

Yelp
Unprofessional staff and an order of fried rice took almost 45 minutes although there were no other customers there. I can see why.
google avatar

Yelp
One of a few places to pick up small bites or pastries fr breakfast and coffee for the ride from Vilcano back to Hilo. The hot cocoa tasted like hot water added to a packaged mix. The two others said their pastries were just okay. Unfortunately my cinnamon roll was dense and heavy like a scone. The white frosting was too sweet for me so that means sugar overload.

Yelp
Great place for food right before Volcano National Park. Very fresh sandwiches (like seriously!) and a variety of other local foods
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly. Great breakfast sandwiches! Cinnamon buns too! And got lunch sandwiches to go! Thank you

Yelp
We really enjoyed having breakfast here. The staff is very kind, this is clearly a family owned establishment that prides themselves in serving their community. There's a selection of baked goods inside and ordering is simple and easy. The outdoor seating feels like you're hanging out in your grandma's porch with the bright colors, decor and maps. The morning was so peaceful with birds chirping and the sounds of nature. We got 2 breakfast bowls with bacon and Portuguese sausage. One bowl had fried rice and the other white rice. Nice, big portions and delicious fried rice. These are perfect meals before a big day exploring or a big day at work.

Yelp
OK, dear owners of Eagles Lighthouse Cafe. We need to have a talk. This one star is not for the food, I've always liked it. I am a long time customer when I frequently come through Volcano. It's also not for the service, as your employees are wonderful and good at their jobs. It's about your boundless greed, lack of respect for your employees and hiding all of that under an alarming and over the top self righteous religiosity at your establishment. When I went into your place last week, I was greeted with a large sign written in green marker that told your customers that you were sooooooo sorry but you "had to" raise prices because of "inflation and a rise in the federal minimum wage". The last time the FEDERAL minimum was raised was on July 24, 2009, to $7.25. The year 2009! Were you confusing it with the state minimum that was raised on Oct. 1 2022, to $12.00? According to the Livable wage database, just for perspective, it's $17.90 per hour for a single adult with no children and goes up from there if the family is larger. Now, the obvious tone of your sign was that you were not only taking a clearly partisan dig at the current US government, but you showed an appalling lack of respect for your employees with your sub rosa attempt to blame them for your raise in prices. The funny thing is, they must have just recently gotten a begrudged raise from you because they were happier than they had ever been! All smiles, "good to see you again", all that. While the owners, on the other hand, were clearly down in the dumps because they had to pay their people something closer to an actual decent human wage. The rotten cherry on top of all this sour management/owner behavior was how you put on such a show of fundamentalist Christianity at your premises. American, "Appeal To Heaven" and Israeli flags outside, Bible quotes and admonishments all over the inside and outside. See that's all well and good, but why don't you actualize all of that religiosity in your attitude toward your fellow humans? Toward your employees and labor? What would Christ do? Treat people with respect and compassion or chisel them in their paychecks just to maintain a profit margin? Please, take down that ridiculous, whiny sign. Show to the island community that you are grateful to operate a business on island at all, and that you can walk all that Bible talk.

Yelp
This place is located close to the national park. 'Y husband got a sandwich, while I got vegetarian chili (contains tofu) in a sourdough bread bowl Pros: decent menu, reasonable prices, vegetarian options Cons: vegetarian chili and sourdough bread are very okay and neither tasted that fresh (the sourdough wasn't sour and tasted like white bread), a little too much religious signs (I've never seen any other place like this. There are 9 signs outside alone), menu outside does not have prices, there is no bathroom Vegetarians, better to get a sandwich than the vegetarian chili

Yelp
This is a great local place. Family run and operated, they HUSTLE to get the food out fast. I had the fish burger and it was absolutely delicious. They are friendly, and there's about 7 tables if you want to dine in (all tables are outside). Great place!

Yelp
Simple down-home food. We have eaten at so many very expensive restaurants during our 2 weeks in the Hawaiian Islands. We have had many poor meals. So it was wonderful to come to this very simple restaurant & have really great food. Their sandwiches are amazing, plus I feel like I am eating good wholesome food. Also enjoyed the soups on their menu. Some of the more expensive restaurants could take a lesson from this family owned spot.

Yelp
Not many choices to eat at the volcano but the eagle has landed on this spot. This is the most affordable place in the area besides cooking your own food. We double dipped and ate here for breakfast and lunch so this is a double review. Pro Tips: - Call in your order. So much faster than standing in line. - Always order a lunch sandwich for breakfast and lunch. They are cheaper than the breakfast sandwich ($4.25) if you like veggies like me. They charge $1.25 for EACH veggie item (lettuce, tomato etc) which is why our breakfast sandwich ended up costing us $10 each. Stick to a lunch sandwich for breakfast at $7 and it comes with all the veggies. - If you decide to grab a dessert, stick with the carrot cake. The guava was ok, but didn't have much flavor. Desserts run around $3.50 each. - Service is hit or miss. Cashier was a bit hard to understand and mumbled in the morning. Maybe it was the mask? But when we called in our order for lunch the lady answering the phone was great and was very pleasant. Yes the Jesus posters were there. No Christian music like someone else commented on Yelp. Plenty of seating and parking. This is a good place for folks looking for budget eats on your trip to the volcano.

Yelp
Popular road side eatery on the way to/from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Offering homey, comfort food, such as soups and sandwiches and daily plate lunch specials. We had the portuguese bean soup, heartwarming chili, fried rice with egg, and breakfast sandwich. No complaints from the family. Good food. Reasonable prices for Big Island/Volcano area. Pleasant service. Lots of parking. Lots of outdoor seating. Since there aren't a lot of food options in the Volcano area, service can be kind of slow if you come when there's a number of other customers in line. If you're not in a hurry, no problem. Sit back and enjoy people watching while you wait for your food.

Yelp
While visiting Volcano State Park in Hawaii, we stayed at a lovely AirBnB and Eagle Lighthouse was right down the road. It doesn't look like much but the food served was delicious, and prices extremely reasonable. Unfortunately, they were closed few days later when we return for more.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this gem while searching for places that opened early (hello East coast time difference) and let me tell you...it was so good, we went back that afternoon! We had the sun dried tomato quiche with bacon and egg croissants and we couldn't take a picture because it went straight to our mouths! Then we went back for some dessert and had their pies. Y'all don't sleep on that quiche though! Going back in the morning! Loved to support local and Christ followers! Thank you for being true to who you AND serving delicious food!

Yelp
Pros: great food, large portion, plenty seating and parking Cons: not much, maybe limited business hour?

Yelp
If you're heading into Volcanoes National Park, this is a very convenient spot to grab some sandwiches beforehand. The sandwiches are made to order and are very fresh. We didn't try anything too exotic but the ham/cheese and the turkey/cheese hit the spot after some solid hikes in the park. We also ordered a side of potato salad snd it was good. Good food and reasonable prices, too.

Yelp
Cute brunch spot in Volcano - food and coffee were delicious and service was quick and friendly

Yelp
Wonderful little breakfast and lunch Cafe with outdoor seating. Best value for your money in volcano. I love their breakfast croissant sandwiches and typical cold cut sandwiches for lunch to go. They have exceptional soups and my Portuguese bean soup is my fave. Definitely best place in volcano to pick up lunch sandwiches especially to go if you're off to the park for hikes etc. Tiny indoor Cafe for ordering only a few people inside at the same time. Or you can call ahead for a quick pick up.

Yelp
Food is good and quick and very reasonably priced. I would definitely give it a try if you are near.

Yelp
We were staying at Volcano Village and wanted to grab some breakfast. Found this cafe on yelp so decided to check it out. It really is a hole in the wall and very unassuming but the food was excellent. My fiancé and I shared an order of fried rice with egg and bacon for breakfast. It was unexpectedly amazing! Not sure what the secret is but it was the best fried rice we have ever had. Very large portion too. We shared it and still had leftovers. Highly recommend this spot if you are in the area.

Yelp
There is no ambiance. I had a turkey & provolone sandwich with oatmeal white bread. The bread was great! The rest of the sandwich was average. My husband had chili - distinctively average. The staff were not rude. They also were not friendly. However in Volcano your options are very limited.

Hallie H.

Yelp
Good price, great food, good service that is fast! Good outdoor seating, but nothing offered inside.

Yelp
Perhaps I had food from them on a bad day, but my experience was not great for how well they were rated. Being on the Big Island, I was surprised when the coffee I ordered came from a large vending style machine (push-button coffee) vice any form of local coffee bean actually being brewed. That was the first flag - not employing at the least an old-fashioned Bunn coffee maker when in the land of coffee. The second was when the woman working casually noted they had no white rice when I ordered it from the menu - only brown rice - (still only about 30 minutes since opening and not busy) at a Hawaiian breakfast location. This is a fundamental staple of almost all Hawaiian foods so it was surprising to say the least. The last straw was when no one asked what style eggs for the food and resulted in a scrambled like omelet patty. I've been to a lot of plate lunch and breakfast places across Hawaii over the past couple of years living on the islands - this one has drifted from what makes that kind of food sought after and is a hard pass for me in the future.

Yelp
Love this place. It was closed when we visited last 2 years ago. Glad to see it up and running again. Great place to stop by early in the morning before heading into Volcanoes National Park. Eggs, Portuguese sausage were on point. Spinach quiche was tasty as well. I'm not sure what more you would want to need for a quick stop. Thank you very much for serving and hosting us!! Love the Tua and Buckner jerseys!!

Lisa M.

Yelp
Absolutely THEEEEEEE BEST!!!! I love their sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, quiche, Mac salad, sourdough bread. Customer service is always pleasant!!!!!!!!! Will not buy a sandwich from lava rock again!!!!!!!!

Winnie H.

Yelp
Great spot for food! Limited choices around Volcano. Solid sandwiches- loved all the veggie and good stack of meat. So nicely packaged for a hike. Great prices. I would have gotten sandwiches here before they close (late afternoon) to eat for dinner instead of eating at the nasty restaurant at volcano inn- bleh! Sandwiches:5/5 loads veg, fresh bread, good amount of meat Homemade chili- kids and adult liked: 5/5 Pork stew- kids and adults loved 5/5. Call ahead and food ready. Cheap! Yes credit card. Nice benches outside to eat. Only bummer is watch the hours open and plan ahead. Sold other items- muffins, croissant, yogurt cups, beverages

Matthew S.

Yelp
I've read alot of the yelp reviews of this place and i don't think they are wrong they are just looking for one thing, which they very solidly and are missing what they do great. I was with the family for nearly a week and probably ate her nearly everyday, sometimes twice. The sandwiches and soups are all solid, not remarkable but good and fresh. The Hawaiian, local food was exceptional, having had a lot of Hawaiian food on the islands I thought it was incredible. Salty and sweet at the same time, just as it should be, the shoyu chicken and lau lau pork were amazing. If I could get anything like that here i would love it. As for the religous, Christian material, sure they have it and are clearly religous, i don't understand why this is so offensive to people, when i go into a Jewish deli or a Middles Eastern restaurant I dont get offended by their religion on display as long as they respect mine. No different here, was always treated with respect. If you need sandwiches and a snack for a hike this is good, if you have time to eat a somewhat messy, delicious Hawaiian meal, this place is great.

Yelp
Great service and reasonable prices right outside the National park. Order inside and eat outside on the picnic tables. Deli sandwiches, cooked specialties and quiche. Highly recommend for a delicious lunch.

Yelp
What a great stop for lunch after spending the day at the volcanoes! We had sandwiches and they were so good and so fresh. Fresh bread, super fresh vegetables and a nice shaded spot to enjoy. Zero complaints. None.
google avatar

Yelp
What a little treat this place is! Veggie options galore! Sandwiches are awesome! The vegetable chili isn't really chili but it IS AMAZING!!!! Super inexpensive too!!
google avatar

Jackie L.

Yelp
Conveniently located near Volcanoes National with few other options in the area on this given day. Good options, quite busy but fast. It was pretty much the only option we had for an affordable breakfast. I had the croissant sandwich and the croissant wasn't quite the right vehicle for the bacon/egg/cheese but it was still good.
google avatar

Kalani R.

Yelp
The food was straight forward simple but good, staff was all so nice. Of all the stops we made to different places in volcanoes this has to be one of our favorites.
google avatar

Brett S.

Yelp
As great as I'm sure the sandwiches are, I don't need a serving of Jesus alongside with it. The place is littered with bible passages and Christian music, not a welcoming environment for ALL. Just up the road is the Kilauea Lodge with a great breakfast with real vegetarian options. Skip the sermon and go to the lodge instead.
google avatar

Smitha A.

Yelp
What a lucky find! We were starving leaving the Volcano NP and headed to the town of volcano for lunch. We saw a sign advertising this spot. Every day they have specials. We were there on a Monday and their specials were Spaghetti and Baked Chicken & mushrooms with rice. The kids settled on spaghetti but by the time we got to the front, they ran out of spaghetti and their second choice chili. So kid 1 got the pastrami sandwich and loved it except for the sweet pickles. Kid 2 and Husband got the breakfast croissant. And proclaimed it delicious. And for $4 a great deal! I got the baked chicken special and it was exactly what it should have been - pure comfort. Very sweet spot with all outdoor seating. Felt really safe!
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
A great spot near Volcanoes National Park for lunch. There aren't too many restaurants or eateries so expect a line. The prices here are reasonable and there is a rotating menu of specials throughout the week. The sandwiches here certainly hit the spot after a long hike. They let you customize it with different kinds of breads, meats and vegetables. The line might seem long, but that's because they're making the sandwiches to order right after you order before serving the next customer.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Stopped twice so far this visit and great food both times. Once breakfast - once for sandwiches- Don't let the outside fool you. Lots of outside seating and this locally owned small cafe deserves a visit - or three - We had cake for dessert- which was a purple one - we both enjoyed that one. Prices not bad and the food is made after you order - no pre made sandwiches. Great to stop in before the park for breakfast and hrs sandwiches for when in the park so you don't have to leave.

Yelp
My fiancée and I were staying in Volcano and were on our way to Punalu'u black sand beach when we decided to pick up lunch sandwiches to bring with us. I ordered and ham and turkey sandwich with all veggies and he ordered a turkey sandwich with lettuce. The staff is super friendly and outgoing and they give you tips and pointers as to where you should go. The sandwiches are reasonably priced, large and filling, and travel very well since they give you the Mayo and mustard on the side. We tasted the sandwiches the penultimate day of our trip and we're back again on the last day of our trip for another. Both experiences at this cafe were pleasant and I would recommend for people looking to pick up a quick lunch to go but they also have ample seating area outdoors.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
Love this place! Volcano is an awesome town and they make the best sandwiches. I highly recommend stopping here on the way to the National park.
google avatar

Yelp
Their sandwiches were made perfectly Togo in ziplock bags for our trip to Volcano NP. They were yummy and filled the spot. I highly recommend supporting this local establishment for your trip to Volcanos. Super handy, highly recommend.

Yelp
Loved the uplifting Christian music right as we walked in! After a sunrise walk in the park this was the perfect spot to visit for breakfast! We had a delicious bacon, egg, and cheese croissant and a fried rice breakfast bowl. They both hit the spot and were very generous portion sizes. To top it off we had the Kau coffee they served! Loved this quaint place with super friendly service!

Peter M.

Yelp
This was the only place open near Volcano National Park so we went to grab some food before we hit the road back to Kona. The food was passable but the apparent owner of the place threw a full-fledged Karen tantrum just because we were waiting for our food in our car on the side of the driveway. It was raining and we were taking the food to go so we sat in the car right near the door (there's no room inside). Despite there being only a couple people there and the driveway being at least six car-widths wide, this woman started literally screaming at us for waiting there. When we moved, she started screaming that we couldn't park in the empty space we pulled into because that was for workers. She actually got out her phone and said she was calling the police and that we'd never be allowed to come there again (like we'd want to). Absolute polar opposite of Hawaiian welcoming and kindness. Regardless of the food is urge everyone to avoid this place solely because they were so incredibly, aggressively antagonistic to their own customers.

Kate K.

Yelp
Found this as it was recommended by a friend. Quaint and you need to look for it! Everything was made to order. Sandwiches were good and had different and local bread choices. Chili in a bread bowl was well seasoned and tasty! Large portion! Macaroni and potato salad came recommended to us and were worth the add on! What is especially to note is the wonderful customer service. So kind, friendly and attentive. The dessert selection was amazing! As we were part of a larger party we tried the cupcakes, coconut cake, and key lime pie (try not to judge). We took them home for later and we couldn't put our forks down. Lucky to have found this place with some homemade options!
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
Good place for a quick bite near Volcano's National Park! Also, the cheapest meal we had while we were in Hawaii -- it was less than $7 for a sandwich. I had a pastrami sandwich with every vegetable that they offered. It was delicious.

Yelp
I have been to a few islands since moving to Oahu in 2017. My wife and I are always on the lookout for amazing restaurants. This is THE BEST sandwich/soup place we have found. Sandwiches are HUGE and the soup is on point! You'll notice that any review on here that isn't flattering is because they have Christian music, or someone said something like "God bless you". Listen - if you don't love Jesus, or are an easily-offended snowflake, this probably isn't your spot. If, however, some Christian music won't deter you from the best sandwich in the world, then charge on intrepid soul. You WON't be disappointed!
