Earl was an upmarket dining experience from the moment we entered. Staff were lovely, and provided sparkling water for the table. We decided to go for the $75 trust the chef menu. They catered for any dietary / taste preferences, which was a pleasant surprise, and whilst everything was delicious and full of flavour, we found the portion sizes quite small, and the dishes came out very slow. We were "dining" for almost two hours.

Delicious dinner beautifully presented, Earl has always been our top 5 restaurant choice to dine out in Christchurch! A restaurant that can’t fault their foods would definitely recommend and return to samplings more of their other new dishes in Spring season!

I dined at Earl this evening and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. I haven’t been for years which I now regret! The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between relaxed and refined, with warm lighting, contemporary design, and a lively but comfortable buzz. The service was a real highlight—attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely friendly. The food was exceptional. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour. Portions were well-balanced, and the pacing between courses was spot on. I’d happily return and recommend it for both value, food and service.

Loved every bite especially the appetisers and sides, ambiance was also much more cozy than the photos I saw online. I don’t always leave reviews but this place exceeded expectations!

Booked a meal at Earl for our wedding Anniversary as we always found the food amazing. We were going too book a deal on first table but opted to book a regular table through the site Instead. As wanted to sit at a table , we are a mature couple needing comfort. When we arrived we were met by an American lady, I queried our seats as they sat us at the bar stools, she offered to give us a table with a time line. We wouldn't have time to eat the food, the chefs tasting menu full price. She insisted that my hubby booked these seats he didn't even when I showed her his booking. She stood beside me very close to my face ranting. My hubby is usually a quiet man had to tell her she said enough. I was disappointed and almost intimated by her behaviour. To the point that we walked out, this is a first time in my 50 years I have ever walked away from a restaurant. We went to soul quarter and were treated with respect and dignity. Don't book Earl on first table even for full priced table or you will be treated differently. I am sure people eating could hear this lady ranting it was very embarrassing.

We were a group of 7 who went on a First Table booking (3 paid full price). The meals were delicious but the portion sizes were very small. For example, there were 5 half roast potatoes. Really?! Potatoes are cheap. Why not serve at least half a potato per person?! The other issue was the time. We arrived at 5:30 pm and didn’t get served dessert until 8 pm. There were long waits between courses. Overall, a disappointing dining experience.

I am now planing my business trips to ChCh to be there on a Tuesday (Pasta Night) constant changing pasta dishes and experimenting with flavours, texture and pasta … love this place and my star in the dull New Zealand hospo industry… I would love to drag most business owners here to learn what hospitality is all about 100/10 - well done

Yelp
Beautiful environment, great food and service. I ordered the lunch salad with lamb. Delicious! Back for the chicken schnitzel sandwich!

Yelp
My friend and I, thanks to grab one went for an "eat like an earl" set menu experience There isn't much that I didn't like about the place, the service was great. The food was fresh and delicious. We weren't really explained what food was coming when we were seated, which was ok because I enjoy the element of surprise. Portions were solid, would definitely come back to try full menu.
