Earl was an upmarket dining experience from the moment we entered. Staff were lovely, and provided sparkling water for the table. We decided to go for the $75 trust the chef menu. They catered for any dietary / taste preferences, which was a pleasant surprise, and whilst everything was delicious and full of flavour, we found the portion sizes quite small, and the dishes came out very slow. We were "dining" for almost two hours.

Food was excellent, waiting time was quite long but staff were incredibly apologetic and made sure we were well taken care of because of the wait. We had the prawns, fish, oyster mushrooms and pork croquette. All fresh and had unique flavours I haven't had elsewhere. Would highly recommend.

A beautiful place to eat and drink in Christchurch, definitely worth a visit if you're in town! I first visited Earl back in January of this year and had a chefs selection dinner with wine pairings which was all fantastic. Every course was delicious and the wine pairings were great, all explained brilliantly by our fantastic host for the evening. Fast forward to December and I found myself back in Christchurch. Having been dreaming of a particular wine we were served during dessert on my previous visit, but having no clue as to what it was, I was keen to try and figure out what it was so I could experience the sweet nectar once again. My host/hosts, both of whom I unfortunately forgot to take the names of, were quick to find the wine I had been pining for since the dinner back in January. I was in heaven once again. The staff were incredibly attentive and I am so grateful that they pulled some strings and allowed me to buy one of the last bottles of that particular wine that were available in the country! I'll be saving it for a very special occasion. Huge props to everyone at Earl for their delicious food and drink and fantastic service and a big thankyou to the two who hosted me today (11/12/25) for going above and beyond. Hopefully whoever reads the reviews will be able to figure out who it was and say thankyou again for me! (Blonde girl who had a bandage on her hand at the time and light brown haired guy who were on the floor just after lunch. You are legends.)

Delicious dinner beautifully presented, Earl has always been our top 5 restaurant choice to dine out in Christchurch! A restaurant that can’t fault their foods would definitely recommend and return to samplings more of their other new dishes in Spring season!

Loved every bite especially the appetisers and sides, ambiance was also much more cozy than the photos I saw online. I don’t always leave reviews but this place exceeded expectations!

We were a group of 7 who went on a First Table booking (3 paid full price). The meals were delicious but the portion sizes were very small. For example, there were 5 half roast potatoes. Really?! Potatoes are cheap. Why not serve at least half a potato per person?! The other issue was the time. We arrived at 5:30 pm and didn’t get served dessert until 8 pm. There were long waits between courses. Overall, a disappointing dining experience.

I dined at Earl this evening and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. I haven’t been for years which I now regret! The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between relaxed and refined, with warm lighting, contemporary design, and a lively but comfortable buzz. The service was a real highlight—attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely friendly. The food was exceptional. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour. Portions were well-balanced, and the pacing between courses was spot on. I’d happily return and recommend it for both value, food and service.

Yelp
Beautiful environment, great food and service. I ordered the lunch salad with lamb. Delicious! Back for the chicken schnitzel sandwich!

Yelp
My friend and I, thanks to grab one went for an "eat like an earl" set menu experience There isn't much that I didn't like about the place, the service was great. The food was fresh and delicious. We weren't really explained what food was coming when we were seated, which was ok because I enjoy the element of surprise. Portions were solid, would definitely come back to try full menu.
