If you like Viking history, this is a great place. It's only small but well worth a visit if on this part of Mainland. Very atmospheric and clearly well cared for. Sadly the Orkneyinga Saga Centre was closed (not open in 2021 at all apparently) but still well worth seeing the ruins and the church. The area is beautiful anyway and when we visited we had the place to ourselves which was a bonus.

It's fascinating to learn about the Orkney Saga's. A must visiting you're in the area. Nice walk around the Bu and onto St Mangus Way. The visitors centre offers a film that explains the history of Orkney.

Historic ruin set on a glorious coastal site. The information centre succinctly tells of its history and fortunes. It is very well worth visiting.

Big car park beside the museum which is closed due to covid19. A short walk to the ruins in the graveyard. Not much left but as mentioned if you are interested in the Orkneyinga Saga this is a must visit. Graveyard is worth a look.

What a lovely remote and peaceful location, well tended church remains and the adjoining beach was a great place to sit and soak up the quiet.

Tucked away but great views of Scapa Bay
Check out the grave stones while there as some are dated 1800

If you are a fan of the Viking sagas then it's a particular thrill to see the exact locations described in the Orkneyinga Saga. Unfortunately the museum is closed due to Covid.
