I wasn't expecting to find a permaculture project hidden away in Lamu, but I'm so glad I stumbled across it! What they've done in restoring an old landfill to a food forest and demonstrating plot is really inspiring. I definitely recommend going along and asking for a tour - Atman who showed me around (sorry if I haven't spelled your name correctly Atman) was very knowledgeable and an excellent guide. They're doing some interesting experiments on soil, composting and organic gardening, and also involving the local community as well as offering permaculture courses. The shop sells some lovely products from the garden. A beautiful place!

I have attended a woodcarving session with the brilliant woodcarving artist Almasi and while in Lamu. The place is cosy, peaceful, and clean. Make sure you pay them a visit and support the community.
