Where to Eat, Stay, and Forage in Halifax, Nova Scotia | Vogue

"A day in a kayak with this outfitter explores the rugged coastline of the Lower Prospect peninsula, paddling along sheltered bays and quiet beaches with guided stops at secluded islands, historic lighthouses, and heritage parks. The Sea-to-Table Lobster Adventure caps it all with a sunset wharfside dinner of smoked oysters and fresh lobster." - Chloe Berge

This was an outstanding experience, probably one of the top 5 kayak paddles I’ve done ever. I emailed the business and Adam promptly responded about availability for dates and tour options. We did the Island Explorer tour it was a beautiful 4 hour paddle around the back bay, smugglers roost and the island. We stopped on a nice sandy beach after 2 hours for a snack. Harriet our guide was fantastic and talked about geology, history and marine biology. We saw a seal and had a wonderful day. They can adapt to all levels of paddlers and the big sea kayaks are fast and easy to paddle and steer. This was my most favorite experience in Halifax and I would highly recommend ECO to anyone.

I highly recommend ECO for an amazing adventure. We were a group of 35. We absolutely loved our day spent with ECO. They are located about 30 minutes from Halifax. They had a variety of Kayaks from Single to Doubles and the great thing about this tour was that they could accommodate paddlers of all ages and abilities. We had a few experienced and some had their first time on the water, with Adam being our guide. He made it so easy for all of us, he paid great attention to details, safety and quality. He and his team of guides were extremely professional and made the experience absolutely great. The location is breathtaking! We really appreciate ECO services, keep up the good work!

Nice set up. Hired a double for a bit over a couple of hours and had great fun exploring the bay.

Great experience! The guides made sure all levels were considered, and everyone had a great time! It was a good Mix of kayaking, floating, and stopping to explore a beach and Island.

I had a great first experience at ECO, taking the introductory kayaking class with Travis. The location is beautiful. The class was thorough without being overwhelming, and had a good mixture of theory and practical hands-on time. Travis was patient and knowledgeable. I’ll be back for more lessons in the future, and would recommend ECO to anyone looking to get into sea kayaking.

Outstanding teaching, time, and experience this weekend at East Coast Outfitters. I looked into this course with a group of my friends and we decided to take the Paddle Canada Level 1 Course. I had Kayaked and paddled 7-10 times in the past with Scouts and at friends and familys homes, and I was skeptical about the need to take an entire course dedicated to paddling and kayaking- Boy was I wrong. After this weekend, my entire understanding of Kayaking has shifted. From something I believed would be basic and straight forward- to realizing how complex kayaking is and understanding the safety risks behind kayaking, I am a changed paddler. Our guide Travis Sanford was a wealth of knowledge and patience, helping me and the group along the whole weekend to tone and sharpen our skills we learned with him. I am confident to say that I am 1000x better then before I took this great course. Travis and the gang at ECO take safety and learning very seriously. The entire weekend, Travis did an excellent job at making sure my paddle technique, safety, and attention was followed throughout whatever skill or task we were completing. The entire time Travis taught as if we were his own friends and there was a real great bond with him. Excellent instructor and would recommend to anyone considering. After seeing recent events with how dangerous kayaking is, I would urge anyone considering paddling to take this course. I am way more comfortable and more then satisfied with the services provided at this location. Great work!

Booked a private tour with Adam for a family get together. Him and his staff were super friendly, explained everything out for us. We got to explore a lot of beautiful places! I personally live locally and will definitely be back to do more kayaking with them! Highly recommend this place for beginners to experts. You haven't seen NS until you see from the water.

Yelp
Amazing doesn't begin to describe it. Get out there and get out there now. Highly recommend the sunset tour. The place is about a $65 cab ride from downtown Halifax. Don't let that deter you. It's that awesome.

Yelp
East Coast Outfitters specializes in Sea Kayaking. You will see them taking groups of people through the islands around prospect. Although sometimes, they do not seem to have any etiquette when pulling up to the beaches on the island. The take the whole beach, so no one else can access the shoreline. It is a heck of a lot easier to move a Kayak than to manoeuvre a boat. I have personally seen this on numerous occassions. If East Coast Outfitters is reading this, please remember, some people lived here long before you started your business here. Please respect this, so everyone can enjoy the great outdoors, share the beach line, don't hog!

Yelp
For someone who lives on the coast, I tend to shy away from most situations that could push me even slightly closer to a whale encounter than sitting in my own living room with all the drapes shut. That said, I put on my big boy pants and shipped out via bus to Prospect with all of my coworkers for a rare day under the sun and on the water. Everyone at ECO was really friendly, happy, and seemed to really like what they were doing which is a great first start to a day of adventure. They got us set up in our kayaks (almost everyone had to go in a tandem which I didn't love at first...but then loved a lot once my arms got really tired halfway through), gave us a quick crash course on steering, and shipped us out. The tour was leisurely, offered plenty of time for pictures, and was manageable for everyone despite the varying skill levels-plus it didn't hurt that it was an absolutely beautiful day! After the on-the-water portion, we were allowed to hang out on site to have our own little dinner party on the beautiful patio. Being able to bring along our own food saved us a TON of money. The only complaints though would be that the bathrooms are definitely for the more adventurous and there's no fridge to keep beer cold. Aside from that? We had a great time and were proud of ourselves for doing something different for a change!

Yelp
First time on a kayaking trip and enjoyed and half day tour at ECO very much, the guides were entertaining, safe and made sure all levels were included. Beautiful scenery and knowledgeable staff, will go back!

Yelp
East Coast Outfitters, great place to enjoy the great outdoors, Kayaking, Boating, Walking Trails, there BBQ food is out of this world, cooked Lobster on the beach and so much more. The Staff here will go well above there call of duty to make everyone feel at home. Way to go.

Yelp
I've been in the outdoor guide industry for 25 years. These folks do a good job and know their product well. Guide was knowledgeable and pleasant, and this is why you hire a guide. She got us on and around the bays understanding the tides and wind. Go at it alone and get beaten up in the wind and the water or do the right thing and hire these folks.

Yelp
I was very excited to use their service for a kayaking trip with a few friends for my sister's birthday. I booked 6 weeks in advance with a Groupon and spoke with a manager to ensure the booking went through. The week of the booking, I called to confirm all was in order and was told they had lost the booking. Disappointed we gave them time to fix their error but received no communication to tell us if they could. I called the night before our booking to be told they did not have a guide and were unable to make it work. I politely asked if they could give us a coupon for another time or a rain cheque. They offered to accommodate us for the following day but we already had plans and could not accept. I had driven in from New Brunswick to go and am extremely disappointed that there was no willingness to offer us a reasonable alternative.

Yelp
The moon was full and the sky was clear. It was just past 9pm this clear September night so we did not turn into our driveway but instead drove to the end of Terence Bay Road to admire the moonlight twinkling on the ocean. It seemed like we were the only ones out until we got to ECO and there were cars everywhere! Curious as we are, we discovered they were folks out on the bay for a moolight kayak!! We are definitely going to try THAT!!

Yelp
Great location, lots to see, fun staff and professional at the same time. Safety comes first when out on a tour with great guides and hardy snacks on half day tours.
