After being on a sugar-free diet for over a year, my pallet no longer accepts anything that is slightly too sweet. For hot chocolate, I only drink Mörk. However, I heard that Monsieur Truffle at East Elevation also specialises in dark hot chocolate, I decided to come and give this a red hot go. I came here on a Friday afternoon, which was somewhat busy but not packed. The waitress that served us was cold and not friendly-looking; we did not feel like she was approachable so didn’t ask many questions. We ordered drinks and food, and although they came promptly, my croquette wasn’t piping hot, which was a shame for such a cold and gloomy day. It was yummy but there was nothing surprisingly amazing so I don’t think I’ll return for the food. But!!!! I have finally found another hot chocolate that I can stomach!!! The 70% dark hot chocolate was amazingly rich in flavour, and it was perfectly balanced with a hint of sweetness behind the bitter cacao. I absolutely loved it and will definitely come back for more!!

As a wedding photographer - this is one of my favourite cafes to photograph at. It's the perfect spot to hold a small, intimate, authentic wedding. The food is great & the space is quintessentially Melbourne with the high ceilings & exposed brick walls.

Lovely and friendly Barista and Staff. I ordered take away Peanut Butter Mocha ... was not on the menu but James , the barista made one for me anyways. It was interesting.... I liked it but my husband was not a fan. Anyway, it was a good experiment. The cafe is in the grey concrete building with red door. Good coffee and the environment is so lovely! Good to sit down relaxing chat with friends or business meeting. Or even work place to think and get creative.

They make chocolate here, so you can imagine how good a dark chocolate mocha will be. If you're a fan of feta cheese, pic a meal that's got some and see how amazing the taste is. I'm no veegitarian but I went with the full Veggie Breakfast and it was good.

Great spacious setting in an old warehouse style building with a distinct red door entrance. Menu offers a good selection of vege dishes and some meats as well. Brunch and all day brekky on offer. Food was very tasty but both of our portions were not big enough for the price $23 for pork belly and $20 Swedish board. We were still hungry after our meal unfortunately and we are not big eaters. This is the only reason it gets 4 stars. Service was great, setting really cool with hanging pot plants etc and vibe friendly and relaxed you can even keep tied dogs at the front.

A regular favourite. Delicious, healthy food, great selection. Usually very busy and a bit of a wait, but well worth it. We've been coming back regularly for years. Most meals are consistently fabulous, recommend the mushrooms and croque monsieur. Also the big breakfast- however this rather disappointingly is getting smaller in serving size. The last visit I questioned if that was a big brekkie? Perhaps it depends on the chef. Super amazing chocolate available and a buzzing atmosphere. We'll keep coming back.

We had such a wonderful experience with East Elevation. Everything was explained perfectly and we couldn’t speak more highly of Lorenza. She played such a crucial role in ensuring the day ran smoothly, and comforted us when wedding stress got overwhelming. I would give more stars if I could!

Behind the red door is a surprisingly large cafe and chocolatier. Cool exposed brick walls, high ceilings and chocolate making happening behind the glass partition. The menu is Brunswick cool with great variety and and a French influence. The service could be better however it was early and quiet. Great coffee and I look forward to coming back to try more of the menu options, especially the croque monsieur.

Yelp
The place is big and beautiful. Staff are attentive and friendly but with Melbourne's brunch game being so strong it is hard for me to give this place a more than average rating. We arrived here on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm. Free 2p parking was easy to find on lygon st. The warehouse set-up is beautiful with lots of massive plants. My colleague told me that they perhaps grow some of their own produce. I found the coffee average but my colleague loved her chocolate chinotto spider (yes spiders are for adults too). The bloody mary looked tempting and so did their massive range of hot chocolates. For brunch, I had the black pudding sausage with poached eggs, green chilli and pumpkin bread. The poached eggs were poached perfectly, the black pudding sausage was nice and salty but the pumpkin bread just tasted like sourdough bread with pumpkin seeds. Nothing special. An average meal with not much flavour. There were some crispy fried leaves with the meal but they didn't add to the flavour. My colleague got the mushrooms (swiss and king) with goat's feta cheese and a side of avocado. I had a taste of her mushrooms and they were quite good. I feel like I need to go back to try the hot chocolate and another dish to give this place a better rating. Definitely love the look & feel and the relaxed vibe of the cafe. :)

Yelp
East Elevation I love you. The moment you walk through that little red door you know you have found something wonderful. There is a certain happiness that radiates from this cute cafe on the Brunswick side of Lygon st. If you are lucky enough to arrive when it's not too busy I would recommend taking a seat near in the middle of the cafe to watch Monsieur Truffle through the glass walls (such a dangerously good idea putting it there!). If you order a coffee you will love it. Nice and strong and served piping hot. I also think the Chai latte is quite notable and elaborate (think of it broken down into all the parts that you assemble yourself). The food is excellent and had plenty of tasty options for vegans and vegetarians. The fresh herbs and plants growing around the venue really add to the healthy feel of the place. Also SPICY BLOODY MARYS are really cheap. Just get one. It will make everything better. Great for a quiet coffee, brunch, catchups with friends or a boozy/caffeinated meeting.

Yelp
The food is fine. The atmosphere is good. The coffee is nice. But the prices are a bit too much. We could have got a brunch from an equally good location, and probably spent $15 less. If you choose to go, you'll enjoy it. The brisket sandwich was amazing. A bit too much, honestly. But I'm not complaining. If they bring down the price, they'll jump to a 4*.

Yelp
Even before you step into this amazing warehouse space you know from the massive wooden door that this is going to be good! The space despite being so big, feels welcoming and warm! Brick walls, lots of wood, plants hanging from the ceiling, cute tiles at the back.. I want to take over and make it my home! The cafe shares a space with Monsieur truffle.. we didn't see that in action but the big machinery looks really cool. And there are plenty of Monsieur truffle products on the shelves if you want to take some chocolates home.. Now to the important things.. breakfast! Both the ricotta crepes and the heirloom tomatoes with avocado and feta were delicious!! Coffee unfortunately wasn't amazing.. neither strong nor hot but maybe we were there on a barista bad day.. Would love to go back and try some more dishes..and hopefully we'll have a better coffee too! :)

Yelp
Monsieur Truffe/East Elevation is an interesting conundrum. Sometimes great. Sometimes well below average. It is a bit of a lottery. The service can sometimes be lovely and generous, but then there are a couple of staff who are just unpleasant, dismissive and rude. The same goes for the food. There are some great items, that are healthy, creative and well-prepared (the pork belly, the crepes), while others that just don't seem to live up to the atmosphere (corn beef hash, full breakfast) and the price. And one major gripe, which is not particularly confined to East Elevation, is this very dismissive, and irrational "no substitutes" policy. I just don't get it, to be honest. How hard is it, in an a la carte kitchen, to not put one thing on the plate and put something else there? Particularly when you are charging such a premium price. It's all fine when you have a crowd waiting, but when competition appears, you know where people will be heading.

Yelp
What a great little find. Fantastic atmosphere and great decor. Very warming, welcoming with lots of great natural light. Services was lovely. And the young gentleman was very calming and had great aura. The food was amazing and delicious I had the roasted eggplant and pumpkin purée with greens, everything else I saw being served look amazing too. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Loved the health benefits of the place. They grow a lot of there mushrooms, herbs and even there own quail eggs. Yummmm and enviro friendly. Yay!!

Yelp
I came here for breakfast on a public holiday. It was pretty busy but staff were quick to serve and very friendly. I had the ricotta rose water crepes which were delicious. They also have great coffee! I was sad that the cold drip had run out so early but they were very apologetic and made a great cappuccino. Will defs come back here again!

Yelp
Prompt service and fresh food. The juices were nice, though no freshly squeezed options. Chicken salad is healthy and filling and the Croque Monsieur is absurdly delicious. Their corned beef is a tad flavorless and most of their breakfast options are pleasant. Their chocolate, moccas, and hot chocolates are sublime. Siting outside in the sun is particularly pleasant. It can be busy at times, especially in the morning on weekends, as you'd expect.

Yelp
We dropped by on sat afternoon for a late lunch, I'd been meaning to pop in and grab myself some Monsieur Truffle chocolate and check out its home but only just got around to it over the weekend.. It was hectic on Sat we had to wait to be seated.. These guys have the wait well thought through as there is a front seating area to wait in comfort.. We decided to wait along with about ten other people, other potential diners came along but decided not to and headed to the various other cafés either side of this venue. We had time to spare and although we were at the end of the queue it was no more than a 15 minute wait for a table.. It's a cool ambience once you get inside, a big open space in what looks like an old warehouse, the chocolate factory is glassed off and visible to all customers no matter where you are seated... I loved this (of course I did as it involved chocolate!!) The joint was pumping, every single table was full and turned over at least twice in our couple of hour sitting.. The wait staff looked cool in old school denim aprons and were in abundance, well organised too as one seated us and prepared our table then took our order, another was the food runner and another cleared the tables. They were very attentive. Lucky for this as it seemed to be chaos in the kitchen as it was a very long wait for food and wrong meals were constantly heading out to tables.. We had time so we weren't too fussed and our waitress was very apologetic for the delay, kindly offering us free coffees which we enjoyed!! She even said it was unusually busy today and that set the kitchen back.. It is definitely worth the wait though, my husband ordered the big breakfast (that's his standard bloody meal when ever we eat out prior to 4pm) and it was delicious, even had a piece of pork belly on it- we had to share that!! It wasn't the usual big breakfast, it was unique and flavoursome.. I had the tomato, avocado and feta toss on gluten free bread.. It was huge and so delicious.. Lots of avocado and tomatoes that tasted like they were fresh out of my mother in laws garden, definitely weren't from the supermarket that's for sure!! Not shy on the feta either!! We felt really satisfied with our meals.. It's reasonably priced although my meal cost about the same as the big breakfast with a quarter of the ingredients.. I guess avocados are ridiculously expensive at the moment!! My husband is a big coffee fan, he said his latte was nice but a little weak for his liking.. I went with my usual soy chai latte, the presentation was superb and the taste of the chai was in full strength, only problem is I don't do caffeine so i was awake forever due to the huge big pot I was given but I loved it nonetheless.. Definitely heading back..

Yelp
We return time and time again and the food is always excellent. There are many vegan/vego options and you are free to change the menu to suit your needs. For meat lovers they have a thick charred bacon! The extras are only $3 each and are a good size. Coffee is v good and the service is prompt and friendly.

Yelp
Wonderful brunch......the best meal I had in Melbourne so far. Good vibes and perfect for family spot

Yelp
Waited 20 minutes for a coffee and it wasn't even busy. Food is good but service is terrible

Yelp
I'm gonna say over-rated. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not bad. But it's noisy because of the warehouse thing, timings are slow (wait service is fine but when they're busy, the kitchen is pretty slow) and $20 for a pretty simple, single dish breakfast (no coffee) is hard to swallow. A bit pretentious but it's Brunswick after all.

Yelp
Best breakfast place ever. Can't go past the heirloom tomatoes on toast. The charred olive bread is devine!

Yelp
Really decent in house breakfast, the croque Monsieur is bloody amazing. Always have interesting specials which is nice to see in a cafe.

Yelp
Nice enough food (I had sweet crepes) and coffee was nice, however service was incredibly slow as they were at capacity, food took more than thirty minutes to arrive once we ordered.

Masha R.

Yelp
This place was totally disappointing! Went in to have some tasty crepes with vanilla ricotta as a celebratory brunch with my best mate. The amount of vanilla ricotta served with the crepes was the size of a peanut! Ah!! If that wasn't sad enough, halfway through our meal some seriously grotesque sounds started emanating from some mysterious source and we felt like we were in a torture chamber. We got up to leave and at the register asked the staff if the sounds were coming from the chocolate machines or something and the girls just shrugged their shoulders and proceeded to gab on about how awful it was and how little they were going to do about it. A couple weeks later I stopped by with another friend to get an iced chai and we were presented with a tiny cup full of ice with a splash of creamy liquid bearing the saddest, weekest semblance of chai... Which they have the balls to charge $5.50 for!! Haha!! I can say with confidence that ill never be back to this cafe.

Yelp
This is fast becoming my favourite breakfast spot. The venue itself is really cool with amazing decor. Its filled with natural light and is such a cool space. Housed in the middle is Monsier Truffe - which make some amazing chocolates. The food is really seasonal and amazingly fresh and tasty. I usually alternative between the tapioca and mushrooms on toast for breakfast, both of which are vegan. The staff are really friendly and accommodating. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait for breakfast, however i find if you get there before 10am you get a seat straight away. They also do vegan degustations quite regularly. We were lucky enough to go to one last week and it was amazing. We had 5 food courses paired with 5 wines for $90. The food was amazing and the wine matchings spot on. Its great to see a venue offering something to the vegan community as its not often i can go out and eat such a diverse range of food. All i will say is the vegan fondue at the last degustation was to die for.
