East End Cellars

We have recently discovered several exceptional restaurants on Rundle Street, including East End Cellar. This venue embodies the essence of sophistication, boasting an intriguing atmosphere, impressive wine selection, and a tapas-style menu. We had the pleasure of enjoying a date night, complete with wine and tapas. I was particularly impressed with the ambiance and vibe of this establishment. Today, we returned to the restaurant and savoured a delectable Wagyu rump steak lunch at East End Cellar, all for the remarkable price of $30. We paired our meal with a bottle of Malbec red wine from McLaren Vale, South Australia. We are thoroughly enamored with this restaurant.

East End Cellars set itself apart, not just as a wine bar and restaurant, but as a place run by genuinely wonderful people. Julius, who I believe to be the venue manager, is one of those rare individuals whose warmth and enthusiasm are immediately infectious. His energy and natural ability to connect with guests made our evening feel special. Then, midway through the night, my partner suffered an acute medical episode. In what was possibly one of the busiest services the venue had seen, Julius responded with a level of compassion and calm that I will not forget. He was present, attentive, and genuinely caring, not in a perfunctory "duty of care" way, but in the way a good human being shows up for a stranger in a difficult moment. He went well above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable and looked after, and his empathy made a stressful situation feel manageable. If you're looking for a wine bar where the service matches the quality of what's in the glass, look no further. And if you're lucky enough to be looked after by Julius, you're in the very best hands.

This used to be a much better place to enjoy dinner and a drink. The last few times I’ve been the staff have been dismissive and rude. The wine selection is good. But they have lost sight of the idea of ‘hospitality’.

Extremely disappointing first experience. Firstly, when we got there, no greeting, no service, no way to know where we were seated. We had to contact our friends to find where our table was and after 15 minutes, we were wondering if its table service or counter service as no waiter had come to our table. At the 20 minute mark, a waiter came over and what we THOUGHT was going to be service ended up being the waiter requesting to take one of our tables away to seat someone else. We were a group of 6 forced to fit onto 2 single tables. I asked the waiter if we were getting compensated or something to apologise for the fact that we were all physically uncomfortable and upset that the first 20 minutes of our night has been disappointing. The waiters made it very clear there would be no compensation. We moved on. Our group went up to order and experienced rude and impatient staff. By the time our food came, my steak was cold and the garlic butter on the top was frozen. I picked it up to show the group and snapped it in half to prove my point. We grabbed the waiters attention to send back my food and after explaining our situation, she looked at me confused and asked “do you want me to microwave it?” I’m surprised they didn’t ask me to cook my own food. I will never be returning.

A wonderful light lunch & drinks. Mozzarella & samuli fritters were light, crunchy and delish. Beef short rib & French onion toast was delightfully full flavoured. Outdoor seating is a great spot to relax. Menu includes original options, unfortunately calamari was not available.

Great wines! Lovely seating outside, inside a bit loud to my taste. Love their sharing dishes as well. Definitely a place that I regularly come back to in Summer.

Visited for lunch that ended around dinner, early July with four mates. Michael is an incredible host. The combination of wine shop, restaurant and wine bar is fantastic. Fair prices for excellent wine. There is nothing like East End Cellars in Sydney. We will be back.

Where do I even start? I am not sure if there has been a change of management but my friends and I have been returning customers for a couple of years now, and our most recent visits have been shockingly disappointing to say the least. The front of house could not be more unenthused to be there, with not even a hello let alone a smile on arrival. Most appallingly, I asked if I could have a few share plates when ordering my food and was told to get them myself from the kitchen myself…the chefs also seemed most confused by this. Most concerningly, errors occurred frequently when our food was delivered to our table, chicken caesar salad without chicken, food we didn’t order served to us. This concerns me greatly as I have a party member who has coeliacs disease and makes me wonder if they take this dietary requirement seriously. I was willing to give them some slack as I also work in a customer service role and we came in on an extremely busy night, but to find the service at the same shocking level on a night that was relatively smooth with barely any customers was extremely off putting. This is enough to reinforce that we will not be returning unfortunately, loved the cellar, have bought multiple bottles of $200 wine there, however, I cannot bring myself to support a restaurant with service that has declined to such an extent. Very sad.

Cool winemaker was here! He only makes Italian varietals! He was cool, cute, and quite funny! Made it a good tasting for us! Cute place, gracious people, different wineries/winemakers showcase their goods! We got a good one!

Anyone who is in to wine will feel like a kid in a candy store here. There's shelves filled top to bottom, opened boxes of wine heaving with bottle of interesting local options and a massive refrigerated section for those who just need to drink it now. You can indeed drink it right there and then if you like, as they have a section set up for spending an hour or two over a bottle of flight of vino. The staff are happy to make suggestions and nerd out a little about the wine as you make your selection. I paid a visit to get a case of some interesting local SA wine from smaller producers who don't have cellar doors, and most of which I find difficult to get my hands on in my home town of Melbourne. Natural wine is so hot right now and there's a huge variety here to please lovers of funk and experimentation. There's a really good selection of European wines and I was pleased to see a fun selection of both local and international options in large format. Yay! Magnums! Buying a case? You'll get 10% off and you'll get free shipping if you spend more than $240 in one transaction - how awesome is that!? Pretty awesome.

This shop is pure wine porn. On one side you have all of the beautiful wines/wine labels you could ever dream of trying/buying and on the other side you have a place that you can try these bottles with a platter or toasted sandwich or tapas type delights. Pay $15 corkage and chose, with great difficulty but with expert guidance, a bottle from the wine side then sit down on the 'tasting' side and enjoy this said bottle with some cheese and jamon. OR just chose off their wines by the glass menu. There are often tastings going on so join their mailing list or just pop in to see whats going on. All the staff rock and know their wines (and love a chat). And more often than not a wine maker will be floating around to join in the chat. Very strong wine community feel. They have a very interesting and broad range of local and international wines that are often hard to find elsewhere. Great people watching potential and a really awesome spot for a day time or after work drink with some mates. Alternatively there are many comfortable spots to sit solo without feeling like you are drinking alone. They also do coffee... So maybe grab a coffee and look around at all of the wines in the shop.

I love going here for a bottle of wine and late night food. I always choose a bottle from the wine shop within and pay the $15 corkage. We had a antipasto platter and it was so fresh, and the quantity was much more then expected. Great spot for anytime of the day.

I am not sure the best way to review this since they have a tasting room and wine store, both of which I AM IN LOVE WITH!!!! we ordered a few glasses of wine to taste and share and ordered the "small" cheese board. since we had a gluten hater with us they cut some fresh apples in addition to the wonderful bread. the prosciutto was perfect and complimented the soft cheese and jam they provided. the bar tender was very nice and knowledgable. the wine store is freaking AMAZING! the guys were knowledgable about almost every wine in the place. the best part was that they went the extra mile to find wine packing boxes and explain the tourist refund scheme in Australia. basically spend $300 AUD on wine and when you get to the airport they give you 25% back! they also said they ship to singapore. did i mention that they were super knowledgable about the wine and very nice. i will go back anytime I am in Adelaide and plan to try the shipping to Singapore.

Wine porn just about describes this. We are new to town and I feel that this is going to become a regular. Drop in at the Est pizzeria around the corner to book a table, then boogie on down here to while the time away savouring a glass (or two) before they call you to tell your table is ready. You will be sorry to leave!

This is East End Cellars (R.I.P.) Mind you, East End Cellars Redux: Bigger better swankier cooler. As you enter - wines are stashed to the right. Tables for sipping coffee, drinks and nibble food to pair with the wine to the left. Do not drool over the glass window showcasing the meats and cheeses, please. The climate controlled room for the posh wines is still in the back. The folk are as wise as before and as friendly (no, the move did not affect them). The clientele seems to have shifted a tad, but don't let that stop you. This is still your friendly neighborhood wine shop. Oh, and they open at 9am for an early coffee. Tastings still happen on Fridays and Saturdays... What else you want? Ah! the Menu... that would be nice... to have it online.. :)

Boasting a magnificent collection of local and specialist wines, most by the glass. These guy are devotees ask for anything, they will find cheese or snacks to match. In any other town this place would be packed with banker-wankers and sundry other social parasites driving the price up. Here, you lucky people, you get to appreciate wine amongst others doing the same thing. Don't make it popular, I'll be very annoyed.

This trip to Adelaide is only for a week and yet I've been here twice, my boyfriend, three times. It's got a great vibe, the waitstaff are super friendly and the food/ beer/ wine is superb. The first time we were here we shared a medium ploughman's platter and a tasty bottle of Tempranillo between three and it was a delicious, hefty snack. Beers and grilled cheese were the pick for the next time. I had a marinated mushroom and smoked scamorza which I could stretch to a good 20cm between sandwich and mouth. This I paired with a good solid golden ale in the form of a local Brewboys Gasoline. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Adelaide.

Do not come here for a Hendricks. I am cool to pay $18 but please respect this spirit and serve with cucumber. When I asked they curtly said "we don't have that". Well don't offer Hendricks for sale.

I was pleasantly resuscitated with wine tasting and cheese platters after my work trip to Adelaide was contaminated by SA's most uptight crazy lady at the workshop I was running. Moved on from the tasting flight to a delicious Hahndorf rosé, 'Zsa Zsa', accompanied by more cheese and some wonderful jamon. What a way to fill the time before my flight home. Radelaide, you're not so bad.

Have eaten here twice recently., very nice flavours. They Moved from across the road into bigger premises. As you enter - a Hugh wine selection stashed to the right. Tables for sipping coffee, drinks and to nibble food to pair with the wine to the left. They make a range of very interesting toasties to go with your wine or coffee. The climate controlled room for the posh wines is still in the back. The staff are wise and friendly (no, the move did not affect them). This is your friendly neighbourhood wine shop with a range of food, also have some interesting woman's handbags for sale.. Oh, and they open at 9am for an early coffee. Tastings still happen on Fridays and Saturdays..
