East End Surf Club

I had an awesome lesson with Mike from East End Surf Club last weekend. He broke down each wave in a way that made sense, and I could feel myself getting better as we went. He also set me up with a board and wetsuit and encouraged me to head back out on my own the next day — doing that helped everything click, and I left feeling way more confident. If you’re new to surfing in Montauk, Mike is your guy!

My wife and I had an incredible first-time surfing experience with Mike Poli of East End Surfing. From the start, Mike made everything clear and easy to understand—he’s a natural instructor with a calm, confident approach that instantly put us at ease. Even as complete beginners, he had both of us standing on the board and riding waves in no time. We couldn’t believe how quickly we were able to get up and moving! We can’t wait to get back out there and surf again—highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn!

Booking with East End Surf Club was very easy! My husband and I are from Wisconsin and we booked a semi-private surf lesson on 5/20/2022. We had never surfed in our lives, but it was a goal of ours. Mike was in contact with us all day to relay the surf and/or ocean conditions and wether it was safe for a lesson throughout the day. Our surf instructor was Riley and he was knowledgeable, kind, and was attentive to our safety during the surf lesson. It was Luke and my first time in the ocean and we were a bit nervous. Riley was able to calm our nerves and it was a very positive experience. We are extremely grateful for this opportunity and will continue to advocate for this company. We cannot wait until we return to Montauk!

We highly recommend East End Surf Club for private surfing lessons. Pat, Mike, and all the instructors make you feel welcome and comfortable from the first meeting. They are enthusiastic and patient teachers, with a passion for surfing, which clearly shows in the way they interact with the students. Truly the best!

Pat & Derek are amazing, took my kids out for their first experience surfing. They’re patient, kind and very positive - provided an experience of a lifetime for my kids. Will get lessons every summer in MTK going forward!

We always have a great experience with East End Surf Club. This is our third year getting lessons for my now 8 year old there. We've had Derek a few times and he is an excellent and patient teacher. Booking online is so easy.

Mike has a gift when it comes to teaching kids to surf. My kids love him. His energy and enthusiasm is boundless. He has a way of explaining things simply and making his students feel successful no matter their level. Over the years, my girls have started their summers with several lessons from Mike and now they are surfing independently. But the best part is that Mike still looks out for them and gives them pointers when they are out looking to catch some waves on their own. Once their teacher, always their teacher!

My son had a lesson with Derek. The conditions were less than ideal - challenging even. They asked us if we wanted to cancel. I asked for their professional opinion weighing my son’s confidence level in the ocean and the ocean environment. Derek made a good call and tailored the lesson to the situation.
