My stay at East Perth Suites Hotel was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. I was locked out of my room one night, and despite verifying all my details, the night staff refused to even let me sit in the reception while waiting for security even though she was the one who checked me into the hotel the previous night. I felt unsafe with drunk people around and I told the night staff about it but she couldn’t be bothered. I was treated with rudeness and complete disregard and I was made to wait out in heavy rain and in an unsafe environment
When I raised this with Assistant Operations Manager Damien, he was extremely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. He repeatedly interrupted me, twisted my words, told me he “didn’t have time to stand here all day,” and walked off while I was still speaking — leaving me in tears which the other hotel staffs witnessed. What made matters worse was that they charged me $88 for forgetting my room card without even confirming with me, and Damien made it clear no refund would be given. I felt cheated.
The way Damien spoke to me compared to white/Australian guests made the treatment feel racist — even the hotel security acknowledged this. No empathy, no apology, no accountability. On top of this, the room was dirty on arrival (stains on the toilet, dusty, ash-like residue from the aircon) and housekeeping did the bare minimum. They even threw the pillows on the floor and left it there, didn’t clean the dust and moved away the chair for no reason. I threw the towels on the floor to indicate that I needed a change but they folded and hung it back, I knew this because the stain I left was still there. Bedsheets were stained as well. Stayed there for a week and nothing was changed.
I had to consult my lawyer to sue this hotel for negligence of a guest and Damien. This is a clear case of discrimination, and I would strongly advise against staying here.
