We stayed at The National for 3 nights in November and overall had a very pleasant break. The room was large and well furnished with the housekeeping very good indeed, additionally it was well heated too. The bathroom, which included a large walk in shower was also spacious, but unfortunately not as well equipped as one would have wished as despite its size there was a tiny "shelf" in the shower and it was necessary to run the water for some considerable time prior to any warm water coming through. How one would draw a bath I cannot imagine so we never tried to do so. ||The breakfast on the first day was amazing! Lovely and hot, bacon freshly delivered into hot receptacles, as were the sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms etc etc. The eggs came through from the kitchen swiftly but were covered in oil which made them difficult to pass to one's plate successfully with only a large Spoon to move them with! A flat, large spatula would be a good idea. However, the 2nd and 3rd days were a different story. EVERYTHING was stone cold, even if it had been brought through from the kitchen as one waited!! Even the plate warme was stone cold, whereas the day before I had to use a napkin in order to hold it to serve myself. A much pleasanter experience!!||The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble, but it was clear that more staff were needed over breakfast as they could not possibly keep up with demand and this was in November and when the business folk had long gone!||The food in the restaurant (we only ate off the Table D'hotel menu) was AMAZING both in quality and quantity and could not be faulted. The staffing levels were much better too.||Overall, we had a good time, especially as the weather was sunny all the time (how lucky were we?) and I would stay again and recommend it overall. I do like a good hot breakfast to start my day however and this was a real let down for both myself and my husband, despite the fact it was included in our package. I would have resisted paying a charge for the cold ones if this had not been the case as I had to leave most of it.
