Google
Great food and nice staff. I rated the atmosphere low because there is nothing here to enjoy it's a grab and go without a single table. Best to order ahead. With that being said, it's very reasonably priced and high-quality sushi. I have visited this place many times and taken my family as well. Don't miss a chance to eat here.

Google
The prices and portions were AMAZING. I was extremely impressed with the Volcano Tuna Roll with Poke on top. My wife had the dragon roll with cream cheese and the pineapple avocado and cream cheese roll which she highly recommends. I tasted it and the pineapple was a delicate flavor and was not overwhelming. Very tasty place with excellent staff.

Google
Great sushi at a great price! Thought it was dine-in, but only to-go. Pro tip is to order online in advance

Google
I’m from Cleveland Ohio and I have had tons of different sushi. New York, Chicago, and Cleveland where we have some excellent restaurants too. This has been the best sushi experience I’ve had. I did takeout and I have no regrets. I got 70 pieces, two platters and a speciality roll. All of it was fresh and tasted amazing. Thank you for the great service and quality food and making my time here in Hilo even better.

Google
Great sushi! Very refreshing and delicious. Not overpriced! Highly recommend! Also, go early in the lunch hour because they do sell out.

Google
Seriously, I don't know how this place is as highly rated as it is. Look at this picture. Small pieces of fish. But that's not really the problem. Even if they were larger, they were mediocre at best. The uni was the best of the three. The salmon and tuna were so-so. And they had no hamachi, so I don't know how that would have been. With all of the other nearby choices, you might be better off choosing one of them. I know next time I will.

Google
My meal at Ebisuya was fantastic. The prices were very good for the portions which were served. We arrived at the very beginning of the dinner hour, when there was only one other table seated. We did discover, like other reviewers mentioned - the pace of service is extremely slow. We came prepared for it and were still surprised at how long "long" could be - close to 40 minutes for our relatively small order when the restaurant was empty. I would recommend coming in just a little bit before you expect to be hungry. The fish was extremely fresh and prepared just right - the flavors shone through without much dressing up. #foodie #sushi #letsguide

Google
Probably some of the best sushi I've ever had. The lady who took our order over the phone and greeted us at the restaurant was very sweet. We got four rolls and went through them in less than 10 minutes. Enjoyed it so much that we had to go back the next day.

Yelp
I always loved eating at Sushi Ebisuya! Prior to covid they used to have seating, but now it's just take out, which I'm totally cool with! Tonight I ordered a bunch of stuff, 26 piece, 29 piece, 11 piece, random sushi's like teriyaki chicken and of course miso soups. Everything is always delicious and hits the spot! Yum!

Bill C.

Yelp
We ordered some spicy tuna rolls and got chopped tuna rolls (which we hate). When we asked about why we got the cheaper chopped rolls they said they don't make the regular tuna rolls anymore (photos of regular non-chopped tuna rolls are on the menu everywhere when ordering). They did replace the rolls with non-chopped tuna, but used the cheaper grade yellow tail tuna. Overall, the sushi was bland, nothing special.

Eve H.

Yelp
Easy to order online! Sushi was good but could have done with out a lot of extra sauce. But that's just me, I want to taste the fish. Ease of ordering online is big plus in me returning in last few weeks.

Leah Anh N.

Yelp
I love sushi. We went here because the sushi place we wanted to try closed by the time we came back from the beach. This place is order and take out only. Sushi price is decent. Quality is okay. The inside of this place is picture below and take about fifteen minutes to make the sushi and waiting inside is slightly warm.

Jessica H.

Yelp
Best sushi in Hilo town will definitely return. Friendly and fast. Convenient if your in Hilo

Mat R.

Yelp
One of the best sushi places in Hilo. Great prices and quick service. Only thing is they have unique hours so check first

R H.

Yelp
This is a takeout spot so this is just about the price and quality of food. The family ordered a bunch of various rolls (avocado, California, spicy tempura), Salmon nigiri and chirashi bowl. Prices were reasonable and most of the rolls were pretty good. The only exception was the California roll which was sloppy and falling apart and became a mess when the kids tried to eat it. Pretty decent value and quality sushi in Hilo.

Irene J.

Yelp
First time trying Sushi Ebisuya and I have to say, supermarket sushi was 100x better than what we had. My husband and I said that we should have just gone to Genki instead The sashimi was bland the sushi rice was bland, even the miso soup was bland. Man, you would think living in Hawaii we choose a better quality ahi and give a better product. Sorry first and last visit!!

Kim D.

Yelp
Basic nothing special. Come on make an effort. We have all had California rolls and we're hungry for something interesting.

Robert B.

Yelp
We love this place. Excellent sushi, really nice people, and a superb onlineo rdering system.

Nina U.

Yelp
Just a simple little sushi place in sweet sweet Hilo. The ambiance is cute and quaint with no a/c and I love it. Got a few rolls and nigiri just enough to keep us happy. Thanks Sushi Ebisuya!

Summer G.

Yelp
THEEEE BEST for quick dinner. (My hubby loves his plate lunches) I love getting a few rolls of sushi. He's not much of a sushi fan but mama is! I looooove sushiiiii

Emerson T.

Yelp
Delicious no frills sushi. And by frills, I'm referring to the fact they have no seating, no restroom, and limited hours. But what they lack in those area, they make up for in quality and price. We got in shortly before closing, ordered 5 rolls, and I swear they were ready in 5 minutes. I just wish we had more time to go back and order more rolls!

Hugh isaac E.

Yelp
The food was good but the drinks were way to expensive The service was fast and the staff are friendly but the fries i know that just heated up because the texture

Julia L.

Yelp
Amazing prices for sushi in Hilo! I always go for the 3 roll combo or 30 piece roll combo and share. Ebisuya is takeout only now due to covid, but it's quick and easy! The staff is always very nice. The sushi isn't the best quality, but it's better than you would expect for the price. Shrimp tempura roll has to be my favorite.

Sandy H.

Yelp
The service was excellent. The sushi made to order was excellent. I always passed by and never stopped, I'm mad at myself it's my new go to pick up food spot.

Owen B.

Yelp
Excellent variety of sushi rolls with several other options. The service was great for takeout menus.

Dawn K.

Yelp
Charashi bowl is so small for the price, not worth it. I don't know why they don't add more fish, instead they add so much rice to make it look fuller. All that is left is rice after eating the fish. We can tell this fish is not a good quality as well. Every fresh fish has a grade and these are not the best for this price. The other rolls ordered were small like mini's.

Dan O.

Yelp
My daughter and I had just finished an entire day of visiting beaches and volcanoes and really wanted fresh flavor. We got three rolls, the spicy tuna, spicy shrimp and the train wreck! Great flavor, quick turn around and some of the freshest tuna I have had on our trip!

Arah K.

Yelp
A tasty, affordable, and friendly sushi stop - as of summer 2022 Ebisuya does takeout ONLY. Wonderful to-go fresh fish.

Motasim H.

Yelp
This is my favorite sushi place in the world. I live on the mainland and miss this place dearly.

Ken H.

Yelp
The vinegared rice and fish are very delicious. However, wasabi, which is the lifeblood of sushi, has a scent similar to deodorant, which ruins everything. If you are looking to eat Japanese sushi with the aroma of real wasabi, I recommend going to another restaurant.

Dean I.

Yelp
Always good sushi! Called in an order, and within 20 minutes, as stated, our sushi was ready!

Marie P.

Yelp
We called and placed a take out order based on the menu items that they listed online. It could not have been easier to park in the little lot next to the farmers market, pop out and pick up our order, and drive it back to our Airbnb. The sushi is very reasonably priced, fresh and delicious. I absolutely loved the vegetarian shiitake mushroom roll with avocado and cucumber. Those flavors were delicious. I also got the tuna roll and salmon roll, which tasted really fresh and balanced. My husband got the "train wreck" roll and enjoyed that too. My husband said the people running the restaurant were very kind and efficient. We will absolutely be back- this is our new go-to sushi restaurant in Hilo. Mahalo for the great service and delicious sushi!

Dasha A.

Yelp
Great sushi, great price. Has some great cooked options. Order online here: https://ebisuya.square.site/#5

Manisha M.

Yelp
A solid choice for sushi that's easy in the pockets and opting for take out meal. They have a smaller menu than I'm used to and the rolls are smaller, but they're so affordable and taste pretty good! I don't think you can find a better sushi deal in Hilo! They don't have indoor seating available, so we did a picnic lunch by the shore.

Michelle H.

Yelp
One of the cheaper sushi places but quality is still very good. This place can get busy and customer service is not the best. It's one of my top places for sushi so I expect to wait. Once you know the menu definitely ordering right away helps.

Davan P.

Yelp
This place used to be good a few years ago but went downhill. Last time I had it I got food poisoning.

San S.

Yelp
Staff was nice, everything else was ok. Didn't care for the slow food service. The place is small, only two sushi chef. Took around 55 - 45 mins until our food came. Only thing I enjoyed was the "Kamakaze Hamachi". The sushi rolls, ordered both the 30 and 26 pieces, volcano roll and California roll... were ok. Idk if I would order that again. BYOB is $10 per person. Not recommended if you're on vacation and have a couple hours set aside to eat.

Gwen N.

Yelp
I have ordered sushi at Ebisuya 4 or 5 times between 2019 and 2023. I've enjoyed the sushi each of my previous orders. This last order was seriously downsized rolls with limited choices. NO Volcano rolls NO abalone soup. NO UPDATED menus. Why? I'm sick and tired of restaurants that charge you what they feel like charging you, since Covid. I'm over it. Be truthful. We will still come to your restaurant and we will respect you more. We want to help you recover. Please treat us fairly.

Andrew B.

Yelp
I thought I posted a review before but apparently I haven't. Ebisuya is easily the best place for sushi in Hilo. I would argue that for the price and quality, this may be the best place for sushi on the entire Big Island. The "best" sushi would be Sansei in Waikoloa, but you'll be paying big money. When I lived in Hilo, I would go to Ebisuya every friggin week. The prices cannot be beat for the amount that you get. The staff is always on point and there came a time when I would order my food on the phone on the way to the restaurant and the food will be ready by the time I sat down at the table because I was even more regular than the regular customers. Great location for locals an tourists alike, right in downtown and close to all the hotels to walk or to take a quick Uber/Lyft. Will always recommend this place and I hope it stays open for when I return in the future.

Madeline B.

Yelp
Thanks for a delicious meal during the safer-at-home "season"! We ordered some sushi to go on our way home from town. The wait we were told would be 50 minutes. No problem, as we saw that most of the complaints people seem to have about Sushi Ebisuya have to do with long waits, so we'd planned accordingly. Loved the Train Wreck roll, and all of the nigiri was fresh and tasty (although they didn't have masago or saba, two of our favorites. We'll try them when life after COVID commences.) The only disappointment was the RockNRoll. Both of us love unagi and avocado, and my husband was excited to see an old favorite from his college days on the menu. I found it extremely bland. You couldn't even taste the unagi sauce. It seemed watered down. But overall, fresh, delicious sushi at reasonable prices. We'll definitely be back!

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Good place for affordable sushi. Highly recommend all the platters. The rolls are very good as well right now it's all just takeout good place to just call in an order and pick up some sushi to go.

Nadine A.

Yelp
Delicious sushi. Sadly only takeout though but they were pretty quick for a big order.

Natalie Y.

Yelp
I swear, they have two servers working and they dont know how to work together. I always have to wait FOREVER just to get a cup of water or my check. I really really do not understand. I found a hair (short and curly) on my hamachi nigiri which was part of that 26 pc combination deal and it was disgusting. They offered to make new sushi but I paid for the other stuff on my check and left the restaurant. Never again. Sushi place with no AC, they use a cheap deep fryer which isnt even business, restaurant class fryer to fry stuff and I just dont get how they keep the fish fresh. So many flying insects in the hall. What's worse is that hair. After I told them, they were all laughing. How professional. Tsk Tsk.

Come on S.

Yelp
Ordered takeout and for assorted sushi cost over $35 quality was very terrible most of the sushi rolls unwrapped and very tiny it's like a child made them. Fish did not taste fresh. I couldn't believe why this place has many good reviews. Ordered from this place because Dragon Kitchen (my go to for sushi) was closed. Better off going to 7-11 or Safeway for sushi compared to here.

Dennis M.

Yelp
Have persisted in trying to be customers for years. We thought, "maybe management training needed." "Maybe customer service training is needed." "Maybe chef training needed." Bad on us for trying to make excuses and keep attempting to support them. The chef is rude ... like a customer should be thankful for CRAPPY food. Chef expels an insincere thank you as customers are 5 steps out the door. Customer service is poor! Quality of food ....yuck! The cat wouldn't even come close to it. Probably could get better sushi at 7-11. The food sucks. The customer service is terrible. The attitude ... ... just gross. WE'RE DONE!

Liz G.

Yelp
Every once in a while one encounters a restaurant so unbelievably bad that it must be recorded into the annuls of Yelp history. This establishment is one such place. At first glance, it's a homey Japanese sushi bar. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, however we did notice one common thread amongst the glowing praise- gratitude for the unusually low prices. As Anthony Bordain confided, low prices, particularly pertaining to fish are a bad indication... The filthy bathrooms, grungy floors and rusted kitchen racks had us worried as we waited for for over 40 minutes for our orders to arrive. When they did, it was clear that we were all looking at the worst sushi human beings could possibly produce. The fish so unfresh it had no flavor, the seaweed so rubbery it would snap back at my lips. Ginger from I don't know where. A spicy tuna roll with a mysterious mayonnaise sauce, ok..... It was shockingly bad. I have never in all my life felt so betrayed by a Japanese restaurant. If you simply want cheap food and are unconcerned with quality, this is your spot. But if you spent thousands of dollars getting your family to Hawaii and want a few decent meals while on vacation, save yourself, and walk one block in any direction - because I promise that whatever you find will be better than this dump. (It only gets any star star at all from us because it did not give us food poisoning)

Kaley S.

Yelp
The best sushi in Hilo! From the sushi rice to the selection of rolls, you can't go wrong with Ebisuya. This is the best sushi I've ever had and is one the cheapest places to buy sushi nowadays. The only thing I wish was different were longer hours like how it was before COVID affected business... The staff are very friendly and helpful. I will continue to support their business every time I come to Hilo :)

Trang B.

Yelp
We went here for dinner because of the amazingly good price. We ordered: 5 nigiri combo, dragon roll, shiitake roll, eel roll, hamachi roll (as pictured), and inari at the end. Overall, the nigiri was mediocre. The best stuff was the shiitake roll, dragon roll and inari. I'd definitely recommend those!

Ryan V.

Yelp
Pretty sad when I can get better, fresher sushi at the grocery store in Montana than what I got here. Ordered a Chirashi Bowl; the fish was not fresh and were the smallest cuts I have ever seen. Hamachi roll was also about half sized with the tiniest bit of fish ever. Salmon sashimi looked like it was from Costco. Miso tasted like it was an instant packet of miso. Really a huge let down. At least the rice was cooked properly...

Cherith B.

Yelp
Quality sushi for a good price! We ordered takeout (while that is the only service option during the COVID pandemic.) It's a small space, but I could see the sushi chefs working in the back and everyone was wearing masks. The main window to pay for the food had a plexiglass in front of it to separate the workers from the customers although it was open on the side to pass on the orders. The woman who took my order on the phone was at the front to pass on the order and was very polite and welcoming; she got the order correct and the food was ready when she said that it would be (I arrived right when she said it would be ready). The sushi travelled home well and was a great assortment of rolls for my family. Lots of good options and for a range of prices (4-11 dollars per roll depending on if they are speciality or more simple).

Diep L.

Yelp
I wish that I got to dine in here as the restaurant itself looks very cute, but we were only able to order take out because of COVID. The restaurant owner was very nice and answered all of our questions and we ended up getting about 3 rolls from here. The sushi here was so good and there were so many options and the price was very reasonable and had many good roll options!! If you're in Hilo and are craving sushi then please check this place out!

Michael K.

Yelp
Best roll: Volcano dragon First time I tried this place, it was the BEST sushi Ive ever had in my life. The flavors were excellent and the sushi was a good price. Not very fancy, but very laid back and casual. It is BYOB so sometimes dinner can be loud but it's always affordable and yummy! Good spot. Definitely recommend.

Sadie D.

Yelp
This place is my favorite sushi place ever! Incredibly affordable and the quality is amazing. Sometimes you have to wait for awhile but it is so worth the wait. The service is always amazing. My suggestion? If you're going for lunch get the 3 roll special, it comes with miso soup and is so good. If you're doing dinner get the special that comes with 5 different rolls. I can eat it alone with enough motivation, but you can also share if you feel like it. I am not kidding when I say this is the best place to get sushi on the island. Also they have amazing vegan options!!

Leanna W.

Yelp
Solid sushi that varies somewhat in quality and service. We ordered piecemeal rather than the combo plates (which seemed to be very popular, and a great bargain; I think that may be a better way to go) - the yellowtail was quite bland and meh, yet the other rolls we got (a variety of shrimp tempura, dragon roll, volcano roll, nigiri sushi as well) were excellent. The price is basically unbeatable - we spent about $20-$25 for 4 rolls, some nigiri, 2 orders of miso soup, a seaweed salad, and those tasty little tofu roll things. Service was friendly and attentive; however it took a loooooong time for our sushi to come out. Three groups of people who came in after us, and who were seated and who ordered AFTER us were served their large orders prior to us being served, which I thought pretty strange as we continued to sit there and wait. The couple to our right was nearly done with their food by the time we were actually served ours, despite them being seated and ordering ten or fifteen minutes after us. Also, not a big deal, but I asked if my husband and I could sit in one of the cozier side booths (there were about three remaining), and was told no, that they were for bigger groups - however, about 15 minutes later a sole single person was seated in one despite other tables being available. A little weird I suppose. The restaurant is overall clean and tidy, with some dated decor and no central A/C (we came when it was cool out, and so this wasn't a problem at all). Anyway, Sushi Ebisuya is a great deal of fresh, decent sushi for your money, and I would still recommend, although wouldn't recommend having the highest expectations for a top-notch sushi establishment.

Brianna M.

Yelp
We had fantastic sushi takeout from Ebisuya tonight. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and it had that authentic sushi taste (freshly rolled?) that not many takeout places have. As others have mentioned the price for quality is unbeatable. Highly recommend!

Arielle C.

Yelp
So good! And reasonable prices! Just wish they didn't only offer takeout and offered dine-ins again!

Martin S.

Yelp
Super casual no-frills restaurant for sushi - Hilo isn't known for its fine dining. The restaurant is not very large and there was only one waitress serving all of the tables, so don't be surprised if you have to wait a little to order or be served. The menu is simple and not very diverse, but everything they offer is fresh and very high quality.
