This place is quiet, peaceful, and well-maintained. Everything is natural and preserved beautifully. The environment is fresh and calming — a perfect escape into nature. The tourist guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything with passion. I really enjoyed the walk through the forest and spotting some rare and uncommon birds. The 3D show was a highlight — it gave a fascinating insight into Mauritian culture, nature, and history. The viewpoints also offer stunning views of the island. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience the real beauty of Mauritius.

I had the chance to visit the Ebony Forest in Chamarel, Mauritius, and it was a wonderful experience. The reserve is beautifully maintained, offering a mix of scenic walking trails, viewpoints, and a chance to learn about the island’s unique biodiversity. The highlight for me was the walk through the restored native forest, where you can see giant tortoises and rare bird species. The viewpoints overlooking Le Morne and the coastline are breathtaking, and the skywalk gives a unique perspective of the forest canopy. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, always ready to share interesting facts about conservation and local history. It’s not a very long visit, but it’s definitely worth it if you enjoy nature, quiet surroundings, and eco-friendly activities. The Ebony Forest Reserve was a great experience during our stay on Mauritius. You get to hike on your own in beautiful forest and get a guide that walks you through a section of the track and explains the efforts to restore both endemic and native species. We also saw free ranging tortoises and quite a few birds. It also has a small museum that explains the history of Mauritius and that of birds like the Dodo and the namesake ebony trees. Well worth a visit (we stayed for over 3 hours)!

Booked a Birdwatching walk. 3 to 4 hours actually did 4 3/4 hour hike Ans saw 5 of the 7 rare birds. Guide Damian was excellent knowledgeable and friendly. Superb views from the viewpoints. You do need a reasonable level of fitness for the walk but there is a jeep ride alternative

Took the guided safari jeep tour. Booked online in advance. Very knowledgeable guide who made the visit very enjoyable. The views from Sublime Point are amazing. This is a good option if you are in any doubt about your ability to do the hikes.

Ebony Forest Reserve in Chamarel is a beautiful conservation area with well-maintained trails, stunning views, and rich biodiversity. The guided tours are informative, and you can learn a lot about Mauritius’ native flora and fauna. A great place for hiking, birdwatching, and connecting with nature.

A true gem – nature, conservation, and wildlife! Ebony Forest was one of the most impressive and meaningful places we visited in Mauritius. The small museum at the entrance gives great insight into the island’s early, colonial & environmental history – and it’s shocking to learn that only about 2% of the original native forest remains due to 400 years of deforestation and exploitation. This makes the reserve’s conservation efforts even more valuable. The forest trails are absolutely beautiful and peaceful. You can spot endemic species like the Mauritius flycatcher, geckos, fruit bats, and – if you're lucky – the rare echo parakeet, especially in the late afternoon just before closing when they fly home to their nesting sites. According to our tracking, the walk from the museum to sublime point (truly sublime views indeed!) is roughly 2.5km with a minor incline. You have two options: a small forest trail and a broader concrete path and both paths lead you to a little boardwalk through an area where lots of Flycatchers fly around you. One of our personal highlights: the free-roaming giant tortoises! 🐢 We spotted two just next to the trail, which was such a lovely surprise. Unlike Chamarel, where the tortoises are kept in a small fenced area, here they really wander freely – and it feels so much more natural and respectful. Also highly recommend the charming gift shop, full of local, eco-friendly crafts and souvenirs. A must-visit for anyone who loves nature and wants to support important conservation work on the island.

Lovely walks, with options suitable for kids. Unfortunately having paid to enter the 7 colours park you then pay again for ebony forest (this is better than the 7 colours park in my opinion).
