3 Best Day Trips from Sydney | Condé Nast Traveler

"With an enviable position right at the edge of the Jamison Valley escarpment at Echo Point, the rooms at Echoes have pretty fantastic set-ups; you can gaze from your bed straight out over the rugged valleys of the Blue Mountains . (Common spaces, like the dining terrace, also have pretty spectacular views.)" - Sophie Davies

I will never stay here again. The breakfast service was essentially non-existent, and two of my meals were completely inedible. On the first morning, I ordered avo on toast, only to be served avocado that was literally rotten. Another guest who ordered the same dish also sent hers back — it seems we each received half of the same spoiled avocado. I ended up paying $39.00 for a few mushrooms. On day three, I tried the omelette, which arrived watery and unappetising. I couldn’t eat it. Again, $39.00 for zero breakfast. I requested a detailed bill the day before checkout, but was told it could not be provided. At checkout, I asked again and was promised it would be emailed to me. A week later, I still haven’t received it — but I did receive a surprise additional credit card charge for dinner and drinks from the first night, which they had apparently forgotten to bill earlier. This is beyond disappointing and completely unacceptable for a so-called first-class hotel. I would have been far better off sticking with a self-catering Airbnb — I would have saved money and enjoyed consistently good food.

Lovely 3 day break at Echoes. Can't beat it for amazing views and quiet luxury. Rooms are well appointed and spacious with all amenities you would expect from this hotel. Can use all the facilities at Lilienfels next door if required so great bonus. Would definitely be back again

The most stunning views, amazing food, minimal people staying because it’s boutique and the proximity to use all the facilities at their sister resort made this the most memorable experience. The breakfast with that view is worth every cent!

Breakfast- Do not expect to receive what you actually order. I placed a breakfast order only to receive the wrong dish. This happens, though when you request for the correct dish and 15 mins later, again receive the wrong dish, that’s a little below ordinary. Not to mention there was a hair on one of the plates of pastries given to us. We were gifted a $15 bottle of bubbles as a token of apology. Room- Black mould on the ceiling above the bed. Balcony door- Cold air coming into room from balcony door jam. Bed- Uncomfortable, two small beds joined together done wrong. There was an imbalance between the two beds that was really irritating. Shower- In such cold climate, a hot shower is a must. Turned the water on, put shampoo in my hair and all of a sudden, the water is shut off. I’m left standing in the shower with shampoo in my hair and no water… management still could not tell me what happened there, only offered my partner another bottle of bubbles for the mishap which was rejected. Conclusion, if you pay $$$ you expect quality, this place clearly is not. I didn’t stay here to be given a $15 bottle for every screw up and there were many. Unfortunately this hotel has gone downhill since the last time I stayed to the point I won’t be returning.

No one at front desk upon arrival, all staff and amenities were literally across the road in the Lilianfels Hotel. The room photos don't align to the room provided. We were unable to get a dinner booking for spa treatment booking, due to school holidays. The room we had was nice and clean, but the view was not as promised. The saving grace was we had a fireplace at it was close to zero degress outside. Overall, it was a nice experience but with no one around to make you feel welcome and wanted, we will go somewhere else next time.

It's a $100 room with $400+ view. Front desk lady is nice, the breakfast server (female) needs a crash course on serving and better language ability. You will know what I mean if you game enough to try yourself. We've stayed here before Salter bought it in 2023, was a much better place... Nowaday, terrible is a kind word to describe. Very unfortunate, and I suggest Salter put some effort in it to keep it. UPDATE on 25 Aug 2025. It is not just about your breakfast offering, it is OVERALL experience, other than the nice front desk lady. If you call it a "luxury", make it luxury, and that luxury should be in facilities and services, not the natural view of it. Check the vents of air conditioning and those in the bathroom, the dust collected on it is worse than a motel in small regional town.

Echoes Boutique in Blue Mountains ||Location 5/5 for access to Blue Mountains and 3 sisters ||Staff - 1/5. Reception staff in Lillyfells were nice. No staff other than breakfasts in Echoes. Service in Lillyfells was awful - slow and understaffed. Staff in Echoes for breakfast were mute - no idea whatsoever about how to hold a conversation. Indeed we are not sure they could even speak English as all they did was nod ||Ambience -0/5. Echoes is a dead beat old fashioned tired, very dirty hotel. The cleanliness in the orangery was disgusting. Look at the light shade and blinds and you’ll see years of dirt. Absolutely foul. ||Room 0/5. Small, appalling noisy aircon. Outdated. You can hear next door having a pee in the night so clearly I thought they were in our room! ||Facilities - 1/5. Gym was closed. Snooker table is old and outdated. Indoor pool in Lilly is ok. ||Food - 2/5. Breakfast was ok. Dinner was ok. Nothing special. ||Overall -1/5. A huge disappointment. I’d never stay there again or recommend it to anyone. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was closed down by health and safety. It’s in massive need of a capital injection and huge refurbishment.

The view from Echo’s was absolutely stunning and easily the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, the room itself was a letdown, especially considering the premium price. It felt quite dated and underwhelming overall. When we arrived, the room was cold, with noticeable drafts coming through the poorly sealed exterior door. I also expected a king bed at this price point but found a queen instead, which was disappointing. The curtains and blinds didn’t adequately block the morning light, making it difficult to sleep in. For a motel charging this much, I expected a higher standard of comfort and upkeep. The location and view are undeniably beautiful, but the room didn’t live up to expectations.

Yelp
We waited for our food for over an hour and finally told our server Yumi that we had to leave for our tour. She asked us to talk to the manager. The manager said they had been busy with a large group so hadn't had time to make our food yet and said it would still be quite a while.

Yelp
Excellent views. The menu is reasonably small with the pricing based on 2 or 3 courses. The choices from the menu are not necessarily to every bodies taste or style as we had difficulty with our choices and even if they list an vegetable accompaniment they are not enough for us so luckily we had ordered a side of green vegetables as we have been disappointed with the meals. The service from the waitstaff is very efficient as is the speed of the food delivery which may or may not be due the restaurant being maybe 30% full. The speed of food delivery could be an issue for some people who want to linger between courses.

Yelp
Probably the worst meal I have had in years. We ordered our meals medium rare and the lamb was delivered virtually uncooked and my steak was blue. Sure, they apologised and said they would look after the bill to compensate. When we got the bill they said they hadn't charged us for the side dishes - very generous especially considering we hadn't ordered any side dishes. Anyway they took a whopping $12 off a $230 bill - not much of s discount fir a ruined evening. I wouldn't go back there if my life depended on it.

Yelp
This is a perfect restraunt for when you just won the lotterry and you have a bedroom with more 100 dollar notes than creeky floorboards. The entre was superb, it was a froed quail wich was nicely seasoned and perfectly marinated, the main was a angus steak which was perfectly cooked and up to a solid standard but f op r the price it's not the best. The desert was a zesty crème brulee with a side of coconut sorbet, it isn't the best combination of deserts but it was delicious, the creme brulee having a perfect crusty top and a creamy inside.

Yelp
Came for a romantic dinner with my girlfriend and was amazed from the view ! Absolutely stunning ! Nathan was our server and he was very polite and extremely knowledgeable! And now for the most important thing , the food; Started with the duck liver - TERRIBLE Cajun vegetables- for $30 could've been better quantity ... Beef tenderloin - dry and flavorless Fish - average Thai curry ( nothing special ) Dessert - all taste like it has been in the fridge for at least a week and way to much for one person. Recap; Great view , great service but the most important thing is the food which was just BAD!

Yelp
The restaurant itself was very elegant. The view, amazing. Staff were very polite and helpful. It was probably a bit overpriced but the food was really nice. I would definitely go back here and try something different but the soft shell crab was the best I've ever had. Take your partner for a little romantic dinner escape.

Yelp
I've eaten at Echoes in the past and it's been great. Last night I was left disappointed and won't be back again. Not sure if the restaurant is under new management. The service in the past has been great. Last night it was consistently poor from all staff. The food was OK, although not great and not what I've experienced from Echoes in the past. If you've enjoyed Echoes previously, maintain the memory and give eating there again a miss.

Yelp
Asian fusion modern Australian menu with 2-3 course options, though not degustation. Wine list mostly AU starting $50 and upward. Full lounge with piano player which can be heard in dining room. Staff overly attentive and perhaps a bit inexperienced.
