6 Caribbean Chefs to Know

"Alisha Stoute is changing that. As the executive chef at Eco Lifestyle & Lodge, a retreat and restaurant in the Barbados village of Bathsheba, Stoute (a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa) uses the land and sea as her grocery store." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The place is rustic, but if that is what you're after it is an absolute dream. The decor is beautifully simple, the views are incredible and the food spectacular (note the restaurant isn't open every day). Staff were friendly and professional, I loved the salt water dipping pools and walkway down to the beach

I had an amazing vacation at ECO Lifestyle & Lodge! The grounds are stunning; some of the most breathtaking views I've seen in my travels. Everyone was very kind and accommodating, especially as one of the only guests at the time. I would definitely stay with ECO again!

Our stay at the ECO lodge was lovely. It was a peaceful, calming place, with beautiful grounds and views over the wild east coast. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was interesting and delicious. We also enjoyed the surrounding area. We walked in both directions along the coast and lay in the rock pools at low tide. we really enjoyed the Andromeda gardens and had lovely homemade French pastries in the garden cafe. We would love to stay here again when we next visit Barbados.

We spent a few days here after spending time on the west coast. Our stay was absolutely amazing. There really is something about that cool breeze on the east! Our stay felt way too short. We loved the location, the food was nothing short of incredible and we had wonderful massages from Tiffany on our balcony. At night, we would listen to the sound of the waves before falling asleep. If you are considering staying here, it will absolutely be the right call. We can’t wait to return.

We spent a week here with our two adult daughters. I think it’s one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed - the rooms are stylish and comfortable, it’s low key, relaxed and intimate. It’s easy to spend the whole day here - the plunge pools are lovely and there are plenty of places to sit and read or admire the view, the sauna is great and there are some nice walks, particularly down to the sea and along to Bathsheba beach. At low tide there are pools deep enough for swimming - the surf is otherwise usually too rough. We took advantage of the free shuttle to the west coast - and one of the owner’s drove us herself to a gorgeous, quiet beach and gave us heaps of information and tips on the way! The staff at reception and in the restaurant were all exceptional - friendly, helpful and gracious, and the food freshly prepared and delicious. The regular free sundowners were a very nice touch! Although we were four of us it would be a perfect place for a romantic honeymoon or a solo break. We were really impressed and would certainly like to come back.

This was our third stay at Eco Lodge. As in the past, it was great. We were in the Soup Bowl studio this time and it was lovely. Big living room, well equipped kitchen, and a lovely kingsize bed. Being vegans, it was great to have several options to choose from both for breakfasts and dinners. Loved the pancakes! The staff at Eco Lodge are always terrific. If you are looking for a place to chill and enjoy nature at it's best, this is a very good choice.

We stayed for 5 nights at the lodge and loved our stay. Every night we fell asleep to the sounds of nature. We had breakfast every morning at the lodge and it was excellent. We had dinner two nights at the lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Definitely recommend! My only two polish points were - I wish there was recycling available and if towels were in a bit better condition. Neither of those would mean I wouldn’t stay again though. Hopefully we’ll be back one day!

I stayed at this location as part of an excellent writing retreat for female BIPOC writers (Island Scribe Retreats... so so so good!).||My room was well-appointed on the lower level of the property. The temperature adjustments were easy to make. I had an INCREDIBLE massage in front of my room with the breeze blowing, it was magical.||The handmade sauna was great - visited that twice. It really is a gem for that space. It is a wet/dry clay sauna and completely dark inside. Fans of Finnish sauna traditions will enjoy it like I did.||The sea was nearby, although we were unable to swim due to the floating sargasm. i'm not sure if that's a time-of-year thing, but if you want a nearby swimmable beach, inquire before you book.||The drinks were fantastic and the FOOD, THE FOOD! Healthy, balanced local fare made by a wonderful chef and culinary staff.||The lodge does a lot with a little space. There are a few dipping saltwater pools. More like small cold tubs. You can sit inside them to cool off and chat with your people. There are a few swings that are fun -- including a swing bed that I may or may not have napped on! There is a large deck, perfect for yoga, journalling, or just daydreaming about the state of the world.||The lodge can also arrange for local tours of the Bathsheba region and different parts of the island. There are botanical gardens nearby and other sites. Inquire and plan ahead.
