6 Caribbean Chefs to Know

"Alisha Stoute is changing that. As the executive chef at Eco Lifestyle & Lodge, a retreat and restaurant in the Barbados village of Bathsheba, Stoute (a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa) uses the land and sea as her grocery store." - Travel + Leisure Editors

This is a very tranquil place in a gorgeous Caribbean setting and style. With a view on the Atlantic from a deck, either your own or at the restaurant, you’re bound to be feeling happy. The road to the lodge had seen better days and is in need of renewal. Be careful! The restaurant has a diverse creative menu and has wonderful vegetarian options. Service is excellent. The lodge is highly recommended if you want peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the West Coast of Barbados. Remember: there’s no safe swimming on this part of the island.

We just ate at the restaurant and it was phenomenal! Absolutely beautiful and stunning property. All of our dishes were creative and had multiple layers of flavor. Catch of the day was perfect and the Cassava Gnocchi truly were little pillows. What a wonderful place!

Absolutely fantastic place and unique in Barbados! Beautiful, peaceful setting and wonderful staff! The chef was excellent. He served also very creative vegan and vegetarian food! The waitresses were very lovely and Seacat was just fabulous! Thank you for the hike ;-)

We loved it. super quiet and relaxing environment. Friendly staff, comfortable room. Fantastic food and drinks. Requires a car to explore the island from this location.

The place is rustic, but if that is what you're after it is an absolute dream. The decor is beautifully simple, the views are incredible and the food spectacular (note the restaurant isn't open every day). Staff were friendly and professional, I loved the salt water dipping pools and walkway down to the beach

Our stay at the ECO lodge was lovely. It was a peaceful, calming place, with beautiful grounds and views over the wild east coast. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was interesting and delicious. We also enjoyed the surrounding area. We walked in both directions along the coast and lay in the rock pools at low tide. we really enjoyed the Andromeda gardens and had lovely homemade French pastries in the garden cafe. We would love to stay here again when we next visit Barbados.

We spent a week here with our two adult daughters. I think it’s one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed - the rooms are stylish and comfortable, it’s low key, relaxed and intimate. It’s easy to spend the whole day here - the plunge pools are lovely and there are plenty of places to sit and read or admire the view, the sauna is great and there are some nice walks, particularly down to the sea and along to Bathsheba beach. At low tide there are pools deep enough for swimming - the surf is otherwise usually too rough. We took advantage of the free shuttle to the west coast - and one of the owner’s drove us herself to a gorgeous, quiet beach and gave us heaps of information and tips on the way! The staff at reception and in the restaurant were all exceptional - friendly, helpful and gracious, and the food freshly prepared and delicious. The regular free sundowners were a very nice touch! Although we were four of us it would be a perfect place for a romantic honeymoon or a solo break. We were really impressed and would certainly like to come back.
