Guided tours offer glimpses of frolicking monkeys, adorable bats and sloths, stolid alligators and frogs galore. Don’t miss the botanical garden, replete with splendid tropical flora and forty enchanting butterfly species."

The night tour we did here was one of the best experiences we had in La Fortuna and you really should not miss this! This ecocenter protects a small patch of forest and all animals come and go freely so you never know what you might find. Our tour started at 17:30 which is when the sun sets and the forest comes to life. Our guide Paz explained the basics (stay on the path, don’t lose the group, etc.) to our group of 8 people and off we went. The walk is only about 900 metres but because you take it very slow and you have to search for animals with the flashlight that is provided it takes about 1.5/2 hours. Our guide knew everything about the animals and told us all the facts when we spotted them. We saw a sloth, multiple frogs, lizards, spiders, cayman and baby’s, toucans, other birds and small snakes. It was amazing. Make sure you wear closed shoes and long pants (short sleeves is fine) and apply ample bugspray in the parking lot. Although the price is high (but comparable to other night tours) it is absolutely worth it. If you do the night tour it is also free to visit their park the next day in daylight. You must do this if you visit here!

We visited the Escobar with Melvin, starting at night. We visited twice more on our own time. Melvin was an excellent guide and helped us see sloths, frogs, lizards, caiman and more. Highly recommend this small but very impressive place.

Went on the night tour. It is pretty flat, generally speaking. One small loop with roots and stairs. We had an elderly person with a walker, and outside of that one loop, he did pretty well through the rest of it. He, however, would not suggest other Vietnam vets stay by themselves at that crossing. He said it reminded him too much of Vietnam, so take that for what it's worth. For me, I got to see plenty of spiders and frogs, so I am happy. Wish there would have been more lizards, and we saw zero snakes, but you risk seeing nothing on these. So all in all, I am pretty happy with what we saw on the hike. What the tour did not tell me when I booked it is that the Night hike includes a Day pass as well... so you can come back and see everything during the day. Unfortunately we will not have the time to do so on this trip, but it would be good information to have to plan ahead.

Great experience with the guide. Thanks Melvin!!! This park is natural, animals are not locked there, not a zoo. Really nice walk and opportunity to take great pictures. Strongly recommended with the guide, they can help to find animals that are trying to hide themselves.

We saw frogs, bugs, a sloth, armadillo, lizards, butterflies and more. Our guide Johander was a superb. He was a science gist through and through. Did you know, agave is only pollinated by bats at night!? Just a taste of the many fun facts we learned. I did this tour with my husband and 18 year old daughter alongside a family with young girls. This really is for all ages and abilities. Must do.

We took a jungle tour at 10:30am and it was incredible. We definitely recommend going with the guide. He is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about animals! Also without him we would not have spotted 99% of the animals and birds. Middle of the day is typically not the best time to visit, but we managed to see a baby sloth and that made our entire day.

100% recommend the night tour! You’ll see frogs, butterflies, caiman, lizards, turtles, sloths, and maybe an owl or snake too if you’re lucky. It’s further away from the center of town than the other tours, which means less crowded and more personal. Plus, you can come back the next day for free to walk the trails in the daylight. I’ve done many nature tours, and these guys are extremely knowledgeable. Very impressed.

We had an amazing guided tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable and provided excellent insight into the insects, birds, sloths, butterflies, and everything else we came across. He provided a great education about nature and wildlife that I did not know prior to the tour. The guide was passionate about his job and the work they are doing here. Thank you for having us. This is a must-do attraction while in the La Fortuna area.
