Where to Stay in Auckland When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Newton Lodge is a comfortable, safe hostel in the center of K-Road with cozy six-bed dorm rooms (including female-only dorms); I appreciated the thick, soft mattresses, electrical outlets by each bed, and the large kitchen for guests who want to save money by cooking." - Matthew Kepnes

This is a very clean, comfortable motel for a short stay. The price is reasonable as well. My husband and I stayed overnight to see a concert at the Newton Theater and loved the town and the different restaurants. Everything, including the people very nice. Although we are almost 2 hours away, I would love to come back for another concert and stay at the Econo Lodge.

Gave 5 stars as we have been using the lodge for the pass 5 years, we do events at Spatra, NJ every Sept, and always stay here. Rooms are clean, shower water is hot and price is always good. Front desk is always friendly and helpful.

This is a no-frills, pet-friendly hotel. Despite scary reviews, we found our room to be clean, with good mattresses, an impressive AC unit (in a heat wave!), large fridge, acceptable towels, with no cigarette smell in our non-smoking room. Despite its location, zero traffic noise at night; it only picked up during the morning commute. The downside: Dinged-up furniture, no coffee-maker in the room and coffee not available at the front office until 7 a.m. That said, it's $80 less than the Holiday Inn a few miles away. It's more like a very good Motel 6 instead of a sad Choice hotel.

Considering the cost, it's an okay place to get some rest. The location is convenient and the clientele is hit or miss. I certainly would not want to stay here with my family. Coffee isn't available until 7 A.M. This was tough for me, as I left the hotel each morning around 6:30 A.M. There wasn't even a person at the front desk at that time. As with most things, you get what you pay for.

Was in town for a wedding and stayed here on a Saturday night. The property is very outdated and not well taken care of. The room was gross. Floors were dirty. Bathroom was horrible. Dirty, broken window held together with tape. Some kind of smegma all over the bathroom wall and light switch Positives. Nice bed, pillows and TV.

Motel room small and very dated. In need of updating. However, it was cleaned and well maintained. Check in personnel friendly. The room I was in however could use more outside lighting, area was dark even in the day. The nighttime lights were dim. Serious safety concerns.

We stayed here 2 nights because the location was convenient to where we needed to conduct personal business. We met Teri at the front desk when checking in. She is awesome, and we got along great. She has a super personality and sense of humor similar to mine. We hope she enjoys the huge cream puff we bought her at the restaurant next store, Bella Italia (which is fantastic...one of our faves in the area). The price is reasonable, after all, it is an Econo Lodge. Now for the room...it appeared clean. It had a laminate floor, which I like because carpets are difficult to clean and can harbor germs and odors. A refrigerator and microwave are provided as well as a large TV and wifi. It could use a fresh coat of paint. The bathroom needs serious updating. Old tile, no counter space, no shelf in shower for personal items. Now for the outside...cigarette butts were everywhere on the property, old furniture piled up at the far back of the parking lot, and some "questionable" people staying there. But I have to say it was quiet.

It’s a very basic no frills hotel. It was clean but the fridge cycled on and was loud. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in and even with all the pillows (I had a king bed) piled up it still felt like one pillow. It was clean and was 10-15 min from the wedding venue so it served its purpose
