15 Chic Courchevel Hotels for the Ultimate French Ski Escape | Condé Nast Traveler

"A 127-key newcomer just below 1650, this family-forward resort couples a stellar kids’ club for 4–10s and an army of nannies with the Grandes Combes chairlift on the doorstep for instant access to the Trois Vallées without 1850 prices. Goûter de l’Écrin is a house ritual—4 p.m. homemade waffles, madeleines, fantastical cakes, plus dog sledging and snowmobile rides—set against fresh, unfussy chalet styling with retro winks and a restaurant warmed by Nordic touches and white sheepskins. Rooms range from snug two-person cocoons to eight-person suites, and every stay includes access to Courchevel’s Aquamotion Park." - Rosalyn Wikeley

We arrived yesterday at Ecrin Blanc in Courchevel and besides the initial welcome it was extremely disappointing and far below what we expected from a hotel in this location and price range. The room was uncomfortably cold, and the central heating clearly could not support the hotel. We were given a portable heater just to warm up the room, which is unacceptable for a winter resort hotel. This already set a very bad tone for our stay. The breakfast was by far the worst we’ve experienced in a hotel of this standard: a small selection of cold cuts, bread, and dry crepes. Anything beyond that—such as eggs, omelettes—came with an additional €9 charge, which is unreasonable for a hotel that advertises itself as high-quality. When we asked why the buffet was so limited, we were told they “can’t do much because they are preparing lunch in the same restaurant.” This shows poor organization and lack of service standards. We asked to speak with the manager, and the experience was even worse. The manager chose to ignore us completely, continued eating and talking with his group, and showed no willingness to address our concerns. For a hotel in such a premium destination, this kind of attitude is unacceptable and disrespectful. We would not recommend this hotel and we will not be returning. There are plenty of better options in Courchevel that actually respect their guests and meet basic expectations of comfort and hospitality. I can not possibly convince my self that it was worth the price I paid.

Having returned from our second opening season pre-christmas stay at this hotel, I can only assume that some of the negative reviews left here are by very entitled, unreasonable and demanding guests. We saw some of this behaviour ourselves and watched intently as the staff demonstrated patience, professionalism and utmost courtesy in the face of abuse from one group of guests! Our stay was again fantastic, the room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet is large and varied and tasty, however I would like to see fried eggs offered free, not just scrambled eggs at an additional charge. The aqua spa, ski rental shop on site and free secure parking are super convenient and hassle free. This type of experience comes at a cost for sure, but what do some people expect coming to one of the best ski resort locations in the world? Thankyou Ecrin team, we hope to be back again soon.

My experience at this hotel was unfortunately far below expectations and certainly does not justify the price. The property presents itself as high-standard accommodation, but the reality is quite different. • The cleanliness and overall condition of the facilities did not create a sense of care or comfort. • The breakfast was limited, with very few options, and there were additional charges for basic items that are normally included in similar hotels. • The most serious issue was related to safety: I returned after several hours to find my room door left open with personal belongings inside. This alone is enough to lose all trust. • When we informed the management, the response was indifferent, with no real intention to help or handle the situation professionally. Overall, the price-to-quality ratio is simply not there. It was a disappointing stay and I would not return or recommend it, especially at this cost.

We have stayed in several so-called five-star hotels that failed to live up to the rating. This hotel, however, is the opposite – while officially listed as a four-star, it truly deserves five.||Service & Hospitality - From our very first enquiry, the service was exceptional. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable, and thorough, giving us complete reassurance about our specific requirements. On arrival, the front desk team were courteous and friendly, even providing a detailed walk-through of the hotel and its amenities – something we greatly appreciated, as many hotels leave you to discover facilities by chance. Throughout our stay, every staff member we met greeted us with a smile, was attentive without being intrusive, and consistently went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.||Family-Friendly & Activities – The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance: relaxed and fun, where children are free to enjoy themselves, yet still refined for adults to unwind. The hotel offers plenty to keep everyone entertained, and access to Aquamotion was a fantastic bonus – especially on days when the weather wasn’t ideal.||Rooms & Comfort – Our superior suite was spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped, with thoughtful touches that made our stay easier. The small kitchen area and dishwasher were particularly convenient for a family trip.||Dining – Breakfast exceeded expectations, often an area where many hotels disappoint. Here, the variety and quality truly stood out. Afternoon tea was another welcome highlight, keeping hungry children content before dinner. A special thank you goes to Florian in the restaurant, whose excellent English and attentive service made mealtimes effortless.||Concierge & Personalised Support – A heartfelt thank you to Ryan (Head of Concierge) and Cedric, who were invaluable in helping us plan activities, select restaurants, and build tailored itineraries. Their knowledge, resourcefulness, and willingness to help made a huge difference to our experience. They were always willing to answer the numerous questions I had.||Accessibility – As a wheelchair user, I was impressed by how accessible the hotel is. The majority of spaces were reachable, making this one of the most wheelchair-friendly hotels I have visited.||Final Thoughts – This hotel exceeded our expectations on every level – from staff and service to facilities, dining, and accessibility. It deserves far more than its four-star rating and is an outstanding choice for families, couples, and anyone seeking genuine five-star hospitality.

The location to Aquamotion couldn't be better as it is attached to the hotel. Forget that for a moment because it will be packed with people and it's dangerous for the kids as the lifeguards are not doing their jobs properly. The kids all going down at once without regulation on the slides endangering yours. The pools are packed unacceptably so. Everyone came to ski and that is a failure for this hotel. In brief courshevel is divided into villages. This hotel is 10 minutes walk above 1550 and 15 minutes walk below 1650. The restaurants are in the villages. You'll need to be at ideally 1850 in Dec Jan which is the top of the mountain to ski since they have the best snow. This is a 15 minute drive and not walkable. The lift near the hotel to get you up the mountain to the slope won't have enough snow, which happens this time of year so you have to drive up or bus up. It's not helpful . Bussing is a horrible experience as it will be packed and you'll like stand or have to wait and wait. If you drive, you best be up there early or you wont get a spot in the garage. We drive every day at 830am to get the spot. The hotel doesn't have a shuttle service. A van is 50 Euro each way. The restaurant for New Years was horrific and I can't even tell you how bad it was .... Not just me but every family we spoke to said the same and I mean a lot of families . The reviews say that same about the year before...and management response is that a Michelin chef makes it all happen. I call that a serious lie. The level of food was worse than anything imaginary quality. The soup was absolutely inedible as was the chicken for the kids that seemed like it was cooked 5 hours before. It's impossible to mess up soup. Just follow a recipe and keep it warm....We couldn't eat the food at all and frankly I can eat anything. I asked for a credit and they denied it. That said I would overlook it all if they cared a drop to make sure the kids meal was half quality....To serve the horrible food to children is frankly unconscionable, especially since dinner doesn't start until 8pm. Ours started with frozen like puff pastry which is a joke and came at 815pm. They should be ashamed of themselves for serving this to children...and the timing was terrible. We skipped half the meal and left early. The 500 euro per person dinner and entertainment was minimal value ...Horrible food and poor service. Some of the people we knew there said the entertainment was inappropriate for children and were very unhappy. I wouldn't disagree... We overlooked it. Breakfast is adequate, but not impressive. Same things every day. They can't keep up with their staff and as a result we and many others had a very late check in. They guarantee by 4pm which is late ... but couldn't get it done by then even so we and many others waited and waited. Staff try really hard but it all is poor. The rooms are base. We had a suite which is required for a family of 4. The suite is tiny. Toilet is in a TC next to front door and living room and bedroom bath doesn't have a toilet. If you're going for Xmas and new years, find a place in ideally 1850 or at least 1650, and book early about 10 months in advance. You'll thank me every day you're there. That said the Valet staff are exceptional and deserve recognition. If management can't figure out that last year and this year their food is terrible then that says it all. Don't pee on someone's leg and tell me it's raining. Own up to it and management should be involved and make it quality. It's really not that hard.

We had a wonderful stay in a family suite. Food & service was impeccable. Very nice location with a separate access to Aquamotion through a tunnel directly from the hotel. Private parking with a concierge and 24/7 hour reception desk. The staff even helped us recover our son's plush monkey toy that got lost in the laundry. We have only positive things to say about the hotel. Highly recommended, we will be back for sure!

The hotel looks nice. Very picturesque and lovely looking rooms. However once you get past the facade you will find a hotel which lacks any kind of quality service or good food. ||Rooms are small and not worth the price. ||Kids club is not very good. ||Restaurant staff are beyond rude to guests. Bar staff are arrogant and don’t want to take your order. Food is incredibly slow in the restaurant. We had to order pizza many nights as we could not face the slow food and terrible service. The pizza was good but got boring quickly so we ate out. Only one restaurant at the hotel with no other restaurants close. 15 minute walk to the closest village. ||Room service was very slow. ||Not a child friendly location. Don’t come here unless you want to pay very expensive prices for everything. ||Rooms are small for the price and I don’t recommend for a family. Either it’s one room with a sofa bed in the lounge or a very small second bedroom. ||No one on reception seemed to care about us. ||Aqua motion was good but I don’t think it should be the reason you stay at this hotel.

We are staying in Ecrin Blanc for the 2nd year - this year it is an awful experience. We get the worse room for the same money (less bedrooms, less space, dirty), no ski school and transfer were organized for our child (we asked for everything in advance - on the 4th of December) - we have to do everything in advance and by over-selves without any help and excuses, the breakfast is much worse (smaller plates, smaller variety). No help and support at all. But I wrote the complaint 6 days ago - no reply and reaction from hotel or concierge.
