Casual, relaxed, local, nice atmosphere. Good choice of drinks and pub menu pretty broad too. Gluten free options somewhat limited but bearable. The online system didn’t cater for any dietary requests so had to order at the counter. Food was quick to be delivered and all staff were genuinely friendly. The nachos were great, the beef burgers ok although the buns were airy fairy lightweight. We relocated from indoors to outdoors, near the hairdresser’s alongside Edgar’s, to have a space we could talk more easily over dinner while the live and tinned music came over. Edgar’s still had much better atmosphere than the inner city pubs.

Went for a lovely breakfast at Edgar’s this morning. I had the waffles with bacon but I removed the egg. It was really good although the waffles were quite sweet so keep that in mind if you don’t have a major sweet tooth. Coffee was A1 very happy with that. Probably one of the best I’ve had. Pricing was incredibly good great value for money

Went there with my wife for a Valentines Day set menu dinner. Was $120pp. Edgars has a pub section downstairs with a more formal restaurant upstairs. The food was incredible! We both walked out stuffed solid, which I wasn't expecting. Would have given it 5 stars across the board, but for 2 things: 1. Our waitress was so accommodating; smiling and complimentary while we were eating. But as soon as our 2-hour booking window had ended her demeanor instantly changed - no more smiles, hurry up and leave. I understand they needed to squeeze in another booking and we were at full-time, however it could have been handled with way more tact. Kind of left us feeling the entire night's service was just an act, which was unfortunate. 2 - it was a Valentines Day event upstairs, but they were playing the same music as a downstairs pub. So we were listening to grunge and rock music (and not even power ballads!) while trying to enjoy a romantic dinner. So the atmosphere felt a bit 'off'. All in all it was a great experience, but for the prices we paid it could do with some fine tuning to be the complete package.

Have been here two times and had a great experience both times. I’ve tried the prosciutto and the caramelised onion pizzas and they were both fantastic. I would also really recommend the ginger beer on tap really refreshing as well as the Korean fried cauliflower. The seating options are diverse and all really strong and hygiene standards are very well maintained. The staff were also lovely. My only critique is that certain items on the drinks menu don’t have prices next to them which feels a little sleazy.

Lovely spot with plenty of seating but bookings recommended if you want to eat there as its a popular place. Unfortunately I was disappointed with my food choice of fried chicken burger as it was far to spicy for my taste and I couldn't eat it. The chips were really good - nice and crispy and hot.

A few years back I started to post reviews to Google Maps. It was just for fun and because it’s good to acknowledge the local businesses that help make your everyday life worthwhile. I recently heard from Google that the photos with my reviews had been viewed over 300,000 times - who would ever have guessed? It was ironic then that I had never mentioned the place I go to most of all – Edgars at Ainslie shops in Canberra. This is a location that has gone from strength to strength over the 20 years I have been going there. It now has the downstairs pub – the longest-running venue – and two upstairs venues, The Inn, a restaurant and bar, and Wakefields Bar, with more of a lounge feel. It also has a private dining area upstairs and Mama Dough, a pizza outlet downstairs. We’ve been upstairs quite a few times, especially when Wakefields Bar has had jazz nights or when we’ve dined in the Inn and they’ve always been good and great fun. However, for versatility we can usually be found in the pub downstairs. Whether it’s a burger or breakfast or just coffee or a drink it works for us. Most recently, after a cool early morning at the Capital Region Farmers Market just down the road, I had a terrific breakfast of poached eggs and smoked salmon on muffins with spinach and hollandaise sauce. I’ve been going for 20 years and even though I have now moved to the opposite side of Canberra, I still keep coming back regularly. The proof of the pudding – or the burger – is in the eating.

Great place, lovely outdoor seating space, has done a great job with providing a lovely atmosphere. I would say it is a bit on the pricey end for pub style food they are good portions and decent quality. My schnitzel was good but I don’t think I would order it on a night where it wasn’t the special as it seems a bit pricey then. My friend ordered one of the specials and it was a little lacklustre for the high price. I would definitely say this place is targeted towards government workers and the dating scene.

Came here for a week night dinner and loved the lively atmosphere. We had the Tuesday steak special and pizza, which were both pretty good (don’t get anything more than medium rare for steak). Both indoor and outdoor seating were full and were a perfect setting for the summer weather.

Been here a few times. I'm not a vegan, but I love their vegan dishes. It's so nice having actual vegetables rather than plant based meat. It's nice food that happens to be vegan, not "trying" to be vegan. I love how they update their menu seasonally, so pictured is pumpkin from one season, and eggplant from another. They are nourishing and filling. Service times for tables/ tickets if people order consecutively to split bills rather than as a whole table is a bit inconsistent even if your tickets are one after the other. But otherwise the staff are lovely and the vibes are good. I'm not a dog owner but I love how people can bring their dogs. If you come here and are a dog owner, please bring your dog (obviously outside). All my reviews are standardised to the following star ratings: 1. Customer service I.e. friendly, easy to book, etc. 2. Accessibility I.e. location, decor and scenery, easily assessable or flexible, etc. 3. Work, health and safety I.e. clean, safe, etc. 4. Quality of goods and/or services I.e. good food, good movers, etc. 5. Comparison to similar for location - I.e. would I recommend this above other places

Lovely and inviting spot on a cool day. Good selection of draught beer. I have a chicken burger. Very nice - bacon was over-processed. Value was OK for Ainslie.

One of my fav little pubs in Canberra. Friendly atmosphere in a beautiful suburb with plenty of tasty food on offer. I usually go for a steak or schnitzel with a pint. During the week they usually have specials on as well like beer and steak for $12 etc etc If you are after somewhere easy, casual and relaxed. Edgar's is it.

Great place. Great food. Staff are excellent and very attentive, particularly the boy, I think his name was Oliver? Lovely and very helpful (couldn't work out what wine to get! He was a great help). Would definitely recommend to my family and friends.

For my Meal I chose the Chargrilled Sirloin with Red Wine Sauce. When it came to the table it looked sloppy and pathetic; the steak was sitting on top of the fries so yay, soggy fries. I took my first bite of the sirloin and it was absolutely horrible. The steak was chewy, stodgy and inconsistent. Don't even get me started on the "sauce". Did they accidentally confuse the red wine with maple syrup? It was ridiculously sweet and didn't go well with the steak at all. The salad on the side was undressed and dry. So basically what I got was an over cooked steak, a sweet sauce, mushy fries and an undressed salad. Ridiculous. Upon arrival, the restaurant looked quite nice. The outside area was a nice space, for a pub. A few things were a bit tattered and all but overall; pretty good for a pub. The waiters looked like they were having a pile of fun, not. It looked like they couldn't wait to go home, which didn't look great for the restaurant. They placed down my meal and uttered "Here you go." I was shocked. The meal also took 45 minutes to come to the table. ---------- Overall: 4/10 Worst meat I have ever had in my life.

Good for a drink but be careful with any of the food. Nachos with canned (whole) tomatoes and some form of stringy beef. Salty prawn 'cakes' that were more like rubber balls. Yuck. Sorry guys. I love that you're local, but you need to pay attention and taste your food before serving, especially at your prices. Nachos used to be good. Don't bother with the 'pulled' trend, def not on nachos. Just stick to recipes that work.

On a recent stay in Canberra, we stopped at Edgars for a quiet breakfast and coffee to start the day. The outside area had plenty of seating which would be perfect for a leisurely Sunday brunch or afternoon beers with friends. After a little confusion about where to find a menu, ie NOT on the massive chalkboards but behind the bar....of course, we settled on a couple of coffees and a simple bacon and eggs. The inside is quite spacious and open however the outside area beckoned. The food arrived quickly and was hot and fresh, however the lack of sugar (for the coffee), salt or pepper on the table was more than a bit annoying and after serving the food the staff seemed to disappear. I've had worse bacon and eggs and I've had better, however for a nice little local or quick lunch/breakfast when staying nearby its not a bad option.

Edgar's is us a great little place reminiscent of the traditional "local", that seems to have gone by the wayside in recent years. A great friendly atmosphere, with polite and sociable staff, a tasty simple menu and a reasonable range of both boutique and commercial drinks available. The meals are well priced, a decent size serving, without being excessive, and very tasty, If your in the Ainsley area Edgar's is well worth the drop in for quiet ale and a bite. The only fault I can find is the lack of heaters of any sort on the outdoor tables, so make sure you bring a jacket if it's cooling off.

Stick to the Snacks and Share Plates and you will be fine. Otherwise be prepared to feel the need to cleanse later. Specially with any deep fried foods. I had the ribs and they were mostly fat. Picture attached. Please note this could've been an exception as staff and atmosphere are amazing.

Great pub food and atmosphere. Drinks a little pricey, but a good range of quality beers on tap.
