We had a lovely 7 night stay here. John is such a lovely host , with suggestions of what to do and where to go. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean. With a walk in robe which was a bonus!! The bathroom looked newly renovated.. All rooms are different, the building was a maternity hospital in its early days, very quirky. .. Its walking distance to town and Constitution dock. We did a lovely walk along the Hobart Rivulet looking for platypus.... no luck this time... ended up at the Cascade Brewery. A bonus at the B&B was the all day breakfast which we thought was well organised and very generous. A selection of breads, cereals, teas, coffee, juices and condiments were available. We would highly recommended Johns place as others have done. It was a lovely chance to meet other travellers from all over the world.

Lovely, little quaint place. Could see the old charm in it. John, the host, was very accomodating and friendly. Make sure you are specific about which room you are booking, especially if you have mobility issues. Some have their own bathroom, others are shared bathrooms. From our room on the bottom floor, there was 40 steps up to the shared facilities There was breakfast included, which consisted of cereal, toast, and tea/coffee, as well as newspapers to start your day off with. Very nice place, thank you for the accommodation

We had a lovely 7 night stay here . The room was clean and large, 2 bedroom with a walk in robe. only a 10 min walk to the centre of town and salamanca. John the host is very informative about the local area and the B&B which used to be a maternity hospital. All rooms are different and some very quirky . We walked to Cascade Brewery along the hobart rivulet looking for platypus.. very pleasant 40 min walk. The continental breakfast was very generous and available all day. would highly recommend. thanks John... (Lyn and Jon, Melbourne)

I have stayed here a few times over the years and look forward to going back this coming weekend. First time I shared the double room with a friend, subsequent stays were in the gorgeous non-ensuite queen room, this time will be the single room. This place has real atmosphere, I would even say gravitas, presence. There is something sublime about the building and the way in which it has been decorated, especially up the stairs and on the first floor. For significantly less than a new, modern hotel in the centre of town you can in my opinion enjoy a far cosier and warmer room than those cold, overpriced clone hotels. The appeal of which has never made sense to me and I regard this as a vastly preferable option. It is true, it's not for everyone but if you appreciate things with a bit more of a sense of culture and care for aesthetics then Edinburgh Gallery would be a good choice. Yes, the upstairs bathroom is a bit small and I am not that tall or large but it's still nice and cosy and that's a minor concern. The dining area downstairs is really nice as well.

We came back after 15 years, and it was still a wonderful place to stay. Comfy beds, relaxed atmosphere and John, our amazing host. Walking distance to the markets and CBD, and brekky included. Highly recommend.

This is a fabulous B &B. Rooms are great, superbly clean and comfortable. It's such a relaxing beautiful large house. John is great, a lovely helpful very delightful person. Breakfast is help yourself, and there is a huge variety provided for breakfast . My husband and I loved our stay and would definitely stay again. It's central for all the great sights and places of interest in Hobart.
