10 Best Beach Towns in South Carolina

"Edisto Beach isn’t your typical, buzzy beach town — and that’s the beauty of it. There are no stoplights, high rises, or chain restaurants on the entirety of Edisto Island, and the beach town itself wholeheartedly embraces the magic of slow living. For entertainment, visitors can (respectfully) explore the 4.5 miles of coastline, take a dip in the ocean, and search for shells, shark teeth, and other fossils that may wash up on shore. Biking, kayaking, and dolphin tours are also favorite vacation additions. But if there’s absolutely one thing you can’t miss while visiting Edisto Beach? The glorious sunsets. Bring a blanket to Edisto Beach State Park, sit back, and enjoy the show." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Google
The park consists of several locations which unfortunately for us was not clear on the brochure so we had to double back to see the interpretive center on Rt 174 and then back to the beach area. The signs for the center are a bit ambiguous. We were not sure if it was the place we were looking for. When we finally got to it and parked we had to discern where to go and how to get in. As we entered the staff was busy chatting and took awhile to actually greet us. Over all they were more interested in chatting than informing us of what the center had to offer. The ranger talk based around the tank and it's inhabitants within the center was quite disappointing. Very unusual in our experience to have someone doing a presentation within the center unfamiliar with many basic concepts of the area. The center itself is worth a stop though as its displays are well thought out and informative. Having seen the sea turtle nest all over the beach in Edisto we were most interested in learning more about them. We ended up adopting a nest and the certificate and stuffed turtle that came with the adoption made the experience extra special. Unfortunately the staff was unable to tell us where along the beach it was but gave us a section of the beach where we were likely to find it. We did find it a bit further down than they guessed but not too far. The beach area has a very nice gift shop, bath house and plenty of parking. Over all a pleasant experience.

Google
Edisto Beach State Park truly is a gem for the park service and a blessing for South Carolina. To have such a nice beach preserved for public access and not over-developed is a terrific gift to the people. The beach is large and not very crowded. The parking lot is not overly large so it limits the number of people able to access the park which means there is plenty of room for everybody. There is an awesome store on site with almost anything you need for a beach or camping visit and very reasonable prices for supplies and gifts. They even have beach wheelchair rentals. The staff was very friendly (this time it was one of the camp hosts). If you are camping within the park at either the beach campground or the Live Oak Campground access is included with your stay, otherwise it is $8/person. There are many picnic tables, grills, and a playground available for first come usage. This is a great state park. It is no wonder why it was rated as one of the best in the state.

Google
Well rooms are a bad description since I was camping but the campsite I stayed at was incredible! I stayed at the Live Oak Campground on the Marsh side and it was a beautiful and peaceful experience! The sites have electric and water, I don't believe there are any sewage hookups but there are 3 dump stations. You can't walk to the beach but the beach entrance is a quarter mile drive and has a very large parking lot with showers, changing rooms, and a little store. The bathhouse really could use an upgrade but it was usable and clean enough. Everyone I came across was friendly and helpful. Overall we had a great few days!

Google
A great state park. DOG FRIENDLY 😁🐶🐕🐩 Welcoming staff. Excellent parking. Clean restrooms Outdoor showers They have a little store on site for snacks and souvenirs. No motels/hotels on Edisto Island. It's like going back in time with a smile. Check it out when you have time. Later y'all, Crusty Kirk

Google
Had a blast, great shells at this beach. Watched pelicans fishing very close which was so cool. There are no lifeguards, so it's swim.at your own risk. Bathrooms, outside shower, playground, grills and really awesome staff complete this beach. There is also a pizza restaurant a short walk to the right of this beach.

Google
camped at the rustic tent site. Site was great beautiful setting! #126 has the flattest ground no rooting. 128 had the best view at night for the moon from the sites I was able to check out from noone else being there. Very peaceful clean had a great camping experience 🙏

Google
It's a state park you can't beat it. Plenty of parking, clean changing rooms/bathrooms and a reasonable priced gift shop. The beach was clean, and fully accessible. We will definitely be back.

Google
Edisto was a very nice beach. Good place for finding seashells. There's a park office with an excellent gift shop as well as an education room. Nice restroom facilities. Shady areas with picnic tables are on the State Park property. Restaurants and a grocery store are nearby. The campground that borders the beach has many shaded or partially shaded campsites.

Yelp
I was a bit harsh with the last review, so I thought I'd upgrade this a bit. My family and I spent a day at the state park (beach)...and here's my update. I can't take anything back about the shelly sand (nearly unwalkable without shoes!) or the muddy brown, turbulent waters (always crazy windy/rocky!)...but I DID find some nicer, more serene area of the beach (though still heavy with the rough sand). I also got a better look at their camping grounds, and they do have a pretty good set-up for that. Normally, we hang out in this beach area right across from our house...and I guess the only difference is that it's just a tad busier here at the state park (more sunbathers). More than anything, thought it was a good, longish beach strip for walking...with shoes!

Yelp
The state park covers some inland areas with trails running through paperbark trees, as well as a section of beach that I didn't really visit, and a campground and visitor center. I spent some significant time on the trails. They are a nice way to get a bit of the sea breeze while avoiding sunlight exposure and getting a bit more diverse nature sights in. A mound of shells apparently left by some Native Americans who apparently really liked shucking oysters evidences the bounty of wildlife in the area. There were docks, but no boats going anywhere on the day I visited. The $8 (per person) fee isn't all that worth it for the inland part, but I could imagine it being more worth it for the beach.

Yelp
Nice beach. Not too busy. The surrounding area is nice to explore after going to the beach
google avatar

Yelp
The only reason I can't give the state park a five star review is this: The rocking chairs on the porch aren't made for normal average (5'7" to 5'10") people.. to be able to sit and rock normally you would have to be at least 6'2" or maybe 6'3"... other than that! The rangers are awesome, the facilities are top notch! The peacefulness is incredible! And the wildlife is fun to watch! I look forward to coming back... but I might bring my own rockers in future!

Yelp
What an amazing beach view!!! I've been dared to go on one of the most coldest mornings but, being a the model I am... the cold doesn't delay a fabulous shoot. The photography group I visited the park with, Leighton Dacosta Photography and Jerrica SM Photography, selected an early call time to catch the beautiful sunrise. Upon arrival, it was quite eerie but, cool! The location was total tranquility once dawn approached. And of course there wasn't a lot of visitors this early which could be perfect for a quite morning for coffee and sunrise or a breakfast picnic and sunrise. I'm looking forward to visiting in my near future now that I will have more days free to travel and explore the world. Attached to this review, you'll find some cool images we captured during our visit. And maybe a little video of a beautiful stream. SN: I was told to be aware of gators when we walked down the Nature Trail but, I didn't see any. LOL!

Yelp
I was actually impressed by the facilities and cleanliness of the beach. It is a state park so there was an entry fee. We parked and walked right down and started hunting for sharks teeth. Now, this beach is supposedly famous for the fossil shark teeth you can find. The beaches in NC were better hunting. We did find a couple and we really weren't dressed for the beach so we declared victory and headed out. Do not expect resort facilities but the bathrooms were clean and most importantly stocked with supplies. A popular spot and I can see why.

Yelp
I visited Edisto Beach State Park as part of my quest to visit all SC State Parks within 2 years. I'd been to Edisto plenty of times before but not often in the park area itself. The beach was beautiful, wide, and filled with shells. (Wear your sandals; it's sharp sand.) Best of all, it was dog-friendly. Restrooms were near the beach, but the rinse showers weren't working when I was there. I also went to the boat ramp and some trails back in the wooded area. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes were resistant to DEET spray and I gave up hiking after about 10 minutes of being swarmed constantly. I'd love to come here again in the winter when the mosquitoes aren't so bad. It's a great beach to visit in the summer.
google avatar

Sydney G.

Yelp
I love Edisto! The beach is rarely overcrowded, there are lots of shells and fun treasures to find on the beach, and in the summer, the water gets super warm. We have an SC state parks passport, so we can park for free whenever we come to the beach, which is really nice, especially during the summer. I also like that you can walk to Coots for drinks or snacks without having to move your car / leave the island.

Yelp
Recently camped at the State Park for two nights, and had an absolute blast. The beach here is beautiful, with shell hunting galore! We snagged a spot to camp about two months out. I'm guessing we got lucky with a cancellation, because it was the last available spot, and it appears they book up well in advance. Now that we've stayed-- I get it! For the campground portion of things, you can't beat it. We were steps from the beach, a short walk to the bathhouse, and 5 minutes from civilization. We felt like we were isolated in this beautiful place, when, in all actuality, we were 45 minutes from home and a short drive (even walk) to restaurants and stores. The ultimate bonus- we slept to the sound of ocean waves each night. Nothing better. If you're popping in for the day, there are a couple large lots to park in. They have charcoal grills set up with a bunch of picnic tables, so you could pop by and have a picnic! Now the main event- that glorious beach. Dog friendly, though your doggo must be leashed May-September, I believe. The beach is so serene and much less touristy than our beaches in Charleston. Took several long walks along the shoreline, hunting though the insane amount of shells. Would definitely recommend some sort of water shoe if you're going to play in the ocean-- our feet got pretty ripped up walking on oyster shells, and could have easily been avoided had we had some footwear on in the water. I cannot recommend this place enough. A few days away here was what the doctor prescribed!

Yelp
This is a very beautiful campground. We live in Charleston, and Edisto Beach is only about an hour away. Despite the scenic short drive, we felt transported to a whole different world. The beaches were full of shells for peak shell hunting! I found a washed up sand dollar within 5 minutes of walking on the beach, which was pretty cool. We came down with a camping reservation for the weekend. The campsites were nice and extremely close to beach access. Bathrooms were kept very clean all weekend! The rangers were pleasant and super helpful. They loop the campground every so often, which does make you feel safe leaving your stuff behind. We were staying in a tent with a bad storm looming. The rangers took the time to stop by every site to touch base on emergency plans if the weather took a turn for the worse. We appreciated the time they took to talk to everyone! There are plenty of places to go out to eat nearby after a day at the beach. Also a tiny Bi-Lo right outside the entrance to the park with all the essentials. We came down in mid April. The campground was mostly full but the beaches were very quiet. It still felt very calm and relaxing! Beaches were huge and we felt like we had the place to ourselves.

Yelp
Edisto Beach State Park on Highway 174 in Edisto Beach is a beautiful and well maintained state park that is fun to visit and experience. I like that the park has a beachfront area that you can experience the ocean in a comfortable area and I also like that there is a separate area for trails and hiking that you can be in quiet and nature. This park has much to offer and is well worth the visit to experience a unique part of the coast.
google avatar

Ally W.

Yelp
This beach is beautiful, from the soft sand to the blue waters. Even the drive on Highway 174 to Edisto Beach is beautiful with tall overarching oak trees draped with moss. Getting to Edisto Beach is one of the most relaxing drives, and you are not even at the beach yet!
google avatar

Nikki A.

Yelp
This beach is everything you can want and more! Beautiful beach, amazing shelling and sharks tooth hunting! Love coming here! I've been coming for years and really didn't want to write a review because I don't want others to find out about this place! A little heaven on earth!

Yelp
When I first called up this place to book, the lady at the other end was constantly laughing. Laughing so hard that she couldn't even speak one whole sentence right and it made me wonder how good this place would be. I still went ahead and booked because we had plans, and we weren't disappointed. So location: They have two campsites, one right at the beach and one about half a mile away. We were at the one that was farther from the beach, but it's just about half a mile so you can just walk to the beach. It is also pretty close from Piggly Wiggly so it was easy for us to buy things that we forgot to bring, like pancake mix and eggs. There are also a few cool places to eat around here. The campground itself has a variety of camping sites and RV sites. We were at a car camping site but there are also sites where you cannot take your car and need to hike. Our site had a fire pit with a grill, running water, an electric outlet and a picnic table. The campsites are extremely clean and well maintained. There is a dumpster at the center of the campground, but none at individual sites. The sites are close together that you can see and hear people in the other sites, but they are still separated with ample vegetation. Since this is camping by the beach, it does get a little more hot and humid than the mountains, so if the weather is 85+ this might not be the best place to camp at. Also, the proximity to water and all the trees around call for mosquitoes so be sure to carry a bug repellent spray. Also, save your food from critters and lock it up in your car or keep it inside the tent or find another way to save it so raccoons can't get in. The campground has hot showers, toilets, running water and firewood for sale. There are also a few really easy and scenic hiking trails that go over marshes. Apparently there are alligators there (not on the trails but down in the marshes), but we didn't see any :( The other part of the campground which is right on the beach has beach access and showers (not hot showers). They have free parking but you have to acquire a parking pass at the ranger station of your own campsite. All in all, this is a really nice, clean, cute and scenic campsite and nothing beats camping near the beach! We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I'd like to tell you that this beach is not worth the drive out there, because I don't want to see this area get overcrowded. I'd like to tell you that the amenities are not worth the price of admission, because I don't want to see this amazing location get overcrowded. And, I'd like to tell you that those who enjoy long walks for shells would be disappointed by this beach, but I'd be lying (and don't want to see overcrowding). I loved my visit to Edisto BSP, and can't wait to go back again. Beach replenishment is currently underway following the devastation of Hurricane Matthew, but they're doing a great job. Walking north or south on the beach will result in a wonderful experience for those young and old. Take a drive out this way at least once a year and you won't be disappointed.

Brian H.

Yelp
Great place to park rv and enjoy the beach. Campground people are all very helpful. Park is well kept and facilities are kept clean and tidy.

Yelp
Even though Edisto is just about the same distance from our house as IOP or Folly it felt like it was much further. We trekked out there last weekend because my husband wanted to go fossil hunting with the girls. Alas, no 'fossils' were found but they had an absolute blast gathering up seashells and chasing waves. We made them dump everything they gathered before we left but I did end up bringing home a few oyster shells for my dad since he uses them to make oyster knives. What's better than a local oyster shell oyster knife?! We didn't explore all that much but it seems like there's plenty of camping and exploring to be had. Maybe some time in the future we'll go for it. We were the only ones on the beach which is a nice change from the over-populated beaches closer to Charleston. Granted, it was February... perhaps in summertime there are more beach-goers to contend with.

Marina A.

Yelp
Beauty is in eye of the beholder. This place is absolutely amazingly beautiful and is a true hidden gem among the beaches of South Carolina! I can't believe the audacity of people who give it a one star review
google avatar

Wesley J.

Yelp
Awesome place , this place is a great getaway. I love coming to the park and camp. The place is clean. The beach is picture-rest. You can get free WiFi at some spots. I enjoy coming to this place.

Yelp
What a great time! Only a hundred feet from the beach loaded with sea shells and clean sand. It was never crowded and the kids had a blast. At our campsite, we had a Cardinal that visited the entire time and watched us and chirped away. The campground is very clean and the people are very nice. To me, it's a mixture of beachfront and "naturey" feel. We will go back definitely. There's nothing better than dozing off to sleep at night with the sound of the ocean in the background.

Moni D.

Yelp
Not a lot of beach space. Maybe it was just today but the water looked brown and dirty. It's a nice little community but not a lot for visitors. No bathrooms. It's not a bad place. Just a longer drive when there are nice beaches closer to Charleston
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
A beautiful and pristine beach. Very secluded and unique beach in the lowcountry. A heavily populated sea turtle nesting site. It's still recovering from past hurricane Mathew, but is coming along great. And there are not a whole of facilities to use, unless you're at the state park.

Robert S.

Yelp
Great except could use a bench next to outside showers , which were not functioning at the time. The best beach I've been to since outer banks. Don't tell anyone.

Yelp
Oh My... What a serene beautiful Beach. Since Botany Bay was closed we came here & what a treasure. First off, on the last leg of driving to Botany/Edisto... Bathrooms are a rare sight. Wait until you get to the BP gas station as the bathrooms there are clean & well maintained. It's also a little store with water & knick Knacks for tourists. Anyhow.. Edisto was like a ghost town.. I imagine it must be what IOP/SI was like before all the development. The strip in front of the beach is just homes & locals. I have no idea what it's like in the height of the summer but I can't imagine college students coming here to party. It's very very basic. We parked right on one of the beach accesses & within a min or two were on the beach. Just amazingly fabulous, quiet, serene, clean & just the spot to sit & reflect on what precious amenities are available to us here in this part of South Carolina. Go, it's only about 80 min max from Mt. pleasant, take a picnic & soak it all up
google avatar

Blake A.

Yelp
Great beach. It is much less touristy then other beaches around the area. It does cost 5$ a person to enter the area, but it is worth it. Your admission includes free fishing rods at the environmental learning facility Near by. It was a great day taking advantage of everything g the are has to offer
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Awesome place to take the kids and hang out close to the beach too so you can enjoy both.

Rhett H.

Yelp
Great, quiet beach. Enjoyed walking from the park entrance to the end of the park. There are more shells here than we saw the previous day at Folly Beach -- wouldn't have wanted to go barefoot here, but we weren't there to get in the water, rather to walk the shore. A couple of porpuses accompanied us along the shoreline for about 100 yards before they peeled off as we approached the river outlet. Walking back to the parking lot, we walked through the camping area, which is nicely cleaned, has clean bathrooms and would be a lovely place to camp or park a trailer.
google avatar

Bruce B.

Yelp
Rough roads navigation was difficult around to our campsite in the motorhome but nice park close to all sorts of attractions, restaurants and the beach. The ranger we met upon arrival was very accommodating and got us set up with everything we needed even though we were coming in after 5. Fairly quiet campground with a couple of exceptions late night tent campers, and others. RV site is pretty level packed and back in, no pull through available even when we reserved 2 months in advance. Very popular live oak campground. We will definitely be back but reserve now for next March perhaps. You will enjoy the area very much.
google avatar

Kristy B.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful facility, just right for some quiet beaching! The staff were amazing from reservation to check out!

Yelp
Great campsite, clean and level. Bathhouse was the cleanest I have seen. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Edisto Island is one of my favorite places, and this park is icing on the cake. There are some really pretty walking/biking trails, the salt marsh is stunning and full of life, the palmetto lined beach is fantastic, the water is great a good percentage of the year, and it's also a fantastic area for shelling. Dolphins always seem to be around too. The campground is nice and you are hardly forced to rough it - only a few minutes away is a Piggly Wiggly and a number of restaurants/bars. Yup, it's humid, and so when it's hot, it's really hot, but what do you expect in South Carolina? Be sure to walk or bike out to the shell midden - it's pretty interesting if sadly degraded now. The whole island is extremely family friendly and low key - you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere that you wouldn't feel comfortable in a clean t-shirt and shorts. As a final bonus, you are only 45 minutes from Charleston and about an hour and a half from Savannah, making them easy day trips if you can't stand any more island relaxation! As someone else mentioned, make your reservations in advance - some people come here every year and campsites fill up fast.
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
Lots going on here. A camping site with some cabins to rent, and trails that can be explored along the more inland Highway 174 entrance. Another entrance closer to the beach as 174 turns into Palmetto. There is a place to park and camp with RV's, as well as a public beach. Endless amount of activities to do in this state park. More inland gets a little mosquito infested, but still enjoyable. The public beach is much the same as the rest of the beach not part of the State park. Though what really sets this place apart from other public beaches is the amazing Jeremy Inlet. Just over a mile and a half walk along the beach from the Pavilion is this tiny little inlet with a ton of treasures for the picking at low tide. I fossil hunt there often. Lots of sharks teeth and other marine creatures from the past. As well as other land critters. I just found some ancient equestrian fossil parts. Also, even some possible early Indian/Archaeology finds. Not to mention everything for the shell, and even sand dollar hunters. I have spent many days exploring this part of the beach. Lots of wildlife up and down the beach as well. A preservation area for the loggerhead turtles, and a natural nesting area for many different birds. Parking and admission use to be free for day visitors, with only a donation box. Now they charge a little to park, and of coarse to camp. Though not a big deal. Overall a great spot with a lot to do and see. Not as impressive as Botany Bay, but a little more accessible, and still plenty of fun to be had.

Yelp
This is one of the best campsites I've ever been to. My lady friend and I went camping there this weekend and life was good. The weather was beautiful, the waves were crashing and it wasn't *too* crowded. The sites come in various sizes and are kept very clean. The bath house is the nicest I've ever seen and cleaner than most hotel bathrooms! The folks are nice and quiet there. Me and my "lady", had no problems. (wink, wink) Some of the sites are out in the open. The beachfront sites are wonderful and are the same (open or private). All night you can hear the waves pounding the shore. It is a slice of heaven. Make your reservations well in advance. They go quickly. It is a top camping spot in my book!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
I would only consider staying here again if I could get a spot at the beach campground. We stayed at the Live Oak site due to the beach site being booked. I was under the impression that there was very easy beach access from the Live Oak site but this is not the case. It's about 3/4 of a mile down a busy main road and wasn't comfortable walking it or riding our bike with our kids in tow. The bike path is just a narrow shoulder of the main road. You also can't take golf carts down that road so renting one was out. We loaded up our truck and drove everyday which was ok. I think for the price they need to include sewer but there is no sewer hookup and the WiFi doesn't work.
google avatar

Yelp
I went here simply looking for a place to hike for the day. While it's quite a drive from Charleston, I'm not entirely sure it was worth it if you're just looking for the hiking aspect. Finding the trails was confusing as they are several separate parking areas- not all of which have trail access. We ended up at the beach parking lot and couldn't find any signs with maps. Eventually we went to ask the woman at the pay booth (it's 5 dollars per person) and had to be redirected up the road to another parking lot where the trailheads were. But the woman was confusing in regards to distance- it was a bit farther up than she explained. Upon reaching the correct lot, park staff there were also a bit confusing in regards to where we should park. Once you do find the trails, signs on the trails are great. The trails are pretty short though. The Spanish Monument trail ends in a very interesting mound created by shells discarded by natives. It doesn't sound interesting but the sign and story are interesting and it makes the trail a bit more worth it. Trails are well maintained, but nothing super remarkable. If you wanted to hiking go to the beach the combo would be worth it, but for hiking alone, this isn't a terrible remarkable location from what we saw. Though as I said before it's all very well maintained, with wide, easily walkable trails and good signage once you get on the trail. They do allow dogs as long as they are leashed and picked up after though- a plus in my book (I bought my dog) but I guess not for everyone.

Yelp
This is the best beach state park we have ever visited. You can't beat the access to the beach, peaceful atmosphere and great park. We will never use another beach campground again.

Kathy H.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to camp. We traveled from Wisconsin and it was well worth the trip. The beach campground is a great place to stay if you want to go back and fourth to the beach. It's a couple minute walk to the beach. This was an amazing vacation.

Yelp
We were looking to entertain 4 toddlers for a few hours, and this worked perfectly! We started at the Learning Center, where we walked the 1/4 mile Bache Trail! It is very easy to walk, and just long enough to keep small ones interested! Also behind the Center is a path that leads out to a boat dock over the marsh. We then returned to the Center for the daily aquarium feeding! The ranger was very knowledgable and the presentation was 15-20 mins and kept the kids attention. There is also a tank to touch a stingray, hermit crabs and a horseshoe crap, and 1/2 a fishing boat replica for them to play. We then drove down to the beach area ( your admission fee is good for the whole park all day! ). We got Subway from across the street to the parking lot entrance and had a nice picnic in the shaded tables between the parking lot and the beach access. There are (clean)bathrooms near here also! The beach was clean, but very "shelly", lots and lots of shell pieces washing up along here. Wear shoes!! Water was rough, but not sure if that was a seasonal thing or because of recent storms. Overall we had a great time, the kids went to bed early that night!!

Yelp
Edisto is a fabulous state park. Plenty of privacy in most spots with foliage between camp sites. We have a 27 foot travel trailer and enjoy our stays there. There is a grocery store 2 miles down the road along with restaurants close by.

Yelp
This is the best beach to go to if you're anything like me..a mom to 3 very active children. There is access to restrooms, picnic tables, small grills and showers to wash off sandy toes. It's not super packed with people, so the visit is enjoyable and you have plenty of space to relax comfortably on the beach. If you're a shell collector this is the place for you! Sharks teeth, sea glass and shells of all kinds line the sand in mounds and piles just waiting to be picked through! Laid back, peaceful and an all around great beach experience.

Yelp
Very clean and lots of parking. The picnic tables were scattered under the trees and the beach was easy to get to just over the dunes.

Yelp
Edisto has been our vacation spot for 25 years! My first time and most recent stay were at the State Park. The park was well-maintained and clean. In fact the restroom and shower facilities were the cleanest and nicest that I have seen at a campground! The beach as always was stunning! The staff was friendly and helpful. Within walking distance are a grocery store, ice cream and video store, pizza place, several restaurants, and souvenir shops! Most of the groups camping were families! We will reserve our same site for spring break next year!

Yelp
INDIAN Mound Treasure ABANDONED by DNR/ State Park.... SHAMEFUL!!! SO SAD! The wall built to protect the historic site is falling in and pulling the ground with it! Shame on the state & federal employees for abandoning it! Site would have been better off without the poorly engineered wall.

Yelp
Visited with my Ohana. The park is small but easy to navigate when you enter. Look for the big building on your right as you drive in. Keep past and park at the last parking lot on your right before you loop around to exit. When you exit your car to your right are the showers. To your left is a store with snacks and beach gear ready for purchase. Tellem Ramon sent ya!!!!!

Yelp
We love EBSP! We've been to edisto 2 years in a row and always make sure to check out the calendar at the state park during our stay. They have great programs for kids each day. The environmental learning center has touch tanks and interactive exhibits that my nephew loved! Our absolute favorite parts of vacation are nightly walks on the state park beach. We stop and get ice cream and park the car by Coot's bar, then walk the beach and eat our ice cream while looking for nesting sea turtles. On a clear night, the moon is so bright on the beach that no light is needed (not that flashlights are allowed anyway). The BEST stargazing I've done in my life!

Yelp
This place is awesome! Went here for spring break and went camping for two nights and loved it. The beach was super nice with not a ton of people, lots of free parking as well. The camp site was at the live oak campground and came with running water and electricity. If you are looking to get away this is a perfect place for you!

Yelp
This beach is very quiet and FAR off the beaten tourist path. Whoever said this place is not good for shells wasn't at the same place. This beach has no sand, ONLY shells. This beach is NOT for the tender-footed. The shell-sand is about 1,000 degrees, so you run to the water to cool them off. Then about 10 ft into the water, there is about a 20 ft long oyster shell bed you have to cross to get out to the waves.

Yelp
This is a great place for a beach vacation, especially for families. Since there are not a lot of bars in the area, there isn't a college party atmosphere like you get at the Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach, or Hilton Head. There are beaches for everyone, from really good waves to really calm ones depending on where you go, ocean side or near the sound, and loads of great shelling. It's also an awesome place to see wildlife. We saw dolphins on three of our days there and huge flocks of pelicans every day.

Yelp
Great place to camp or spend the day. A turtle shell washed up on the beach just a before we arrived. Filled up the top of the pick nick table. That guy sure was lucky to find it.
