"For the most part, New York City is not a fragrant place. True: there are lots of odors. Few of them, however, are truly appealing. If the city's unique aroma starts to overwhelm, head to Greenwich Village for a literal breather at Frederic Malle, a perfume and cologne shop where you can develop your own signature fragrance. The boutique, located in a brownstone, is chic and calming, and will give you the courage to return to the city streets refreshed."

Not only disappointed, but feeling disrespected. This is a super high end perfume store that I only know about through my late mother who was a huge fan of Cologne Indelibile. I came into the shop last week and had a lovely shopping experience. I purchased two fragrances. In this shop you cannot handle the fragrances yourself, and the door remains locked. A very “high end,” exclusive feeling. Upon arriving home and unboxing, I found that one of the bottles label was damaged (torn up and just looked like it was used or a return that had been damaged). For $300+ price point, and the fact that stock is kept in the back away from shoppers, I would expect that my luxury good be in excellent condition. I brought it back to the store and calmly explained why I was returning it. The sales associate seemed empathetic and brought it into the back to “see if they even have any more in stock” and assured me that “they don’t sell returned items.” After some deliberation in the back, I could hear voices, the associate returned and told me “too bad” basically. I was told I could keep the one I had or there was no more left - “Sorry I know that’s disappointing.” I don’t appreciate a blatant lie to my face. online it does not say out of stock. Why was I not offered an exchange? I wasted my afternoon on a trip back to the store to be treated like this. Writing this in hopes that management or corporate sees this.

Giovanni was incredibly helpful, welcoming my friend and I into the store. He was being very attentive to the previous customer and was working the store alone, so we waited on the comfortable couches until he was able to help us. We didn’t end up purchasing anything that day, but he gave me a sample of my favorite scents to try on my skin in the meantime. The scents are very different on the dry down and now I know exactly what I want for my birthday! Thanks again for the help, definitely a store worth visiting if you want an intimate experience.

I visited the store for the first time today with high expectations. Unfortunately my first impression was a disappointing one… I was quickly informed I would only be able to smell a handful of scents which was a let down, but that probably could’ve been smoothed over if I would have been given any form of helpful descriptions of the scents and their stories before choosing (or in some cases having them chosen for me without realizing they were going towards my limit). Sadly it wasn’t just the lack of information that made we feel unwelcome but the condescending air from the sales associate (whose name I was not given). When inquiring about Lipstick Rose, I asked if iris was a component adding to the “lipstick” quality and was dismissed as though it were a silly question. When I left the store I pulled up the fragrance on the website to find that iris is in fact one of the *main* components of it. So not only were they rude, but apparently uninformed on the product as well. Even though I was the sole customer in the store I did not feel invited to linger and learn, but to quickly choose my 5 to smell and leave. Honestly that would’ve been enough for me to never go back, but after reading other reviews and seeing that a wonderful experience is possible here, I hope to give this store another shot because I am truly interested in the fragrances. However, I definitely will not be returning if this sales associate is on the floor.

Eddie was amazingly warm and exceptionally knowledgeable! Its a bit hard to smell FM perfumes in the city and it really felt like making the trip out was worth it! Definitely recommend this store over the counter at Saks, much more immersive experience. The store is super unique and well designed itself and adds to the experience.

I walked in to repurchase my fragrance I wear everyday and was genuinely disgusted by the attitude of the associate with the mustache. He was dismissive, rude, and carried an air of entitlement that felt completely out of place—and frankly, quite embarrassing for a brand of this caliber. As a frequent customer who came in knowing what they wanted without requesting to have a sit down fragrance discovery session, it was extremely off putting and unacceptable behavior. My husband and I have been loyal to Frédéric Malle for years, visiting boutiques in Dubai, London, Paris, Milan, and LA. We’ve always been treated with professionalism and courtesy—until now. It’s unfortunate that this visit left such a negative impression. I won’t be returning to the brand after this experience.

even if I love the perfumes of this house, the salesman at this boutique (didn’t get his name, but he was medium height, short brown hair, brown eyes), was so unwelcoming and arrogant. I’ve spent $1,000s at this perfumery house and did not expect to be treated like this. I hope the brand management does something about this.

The best gift I have given myself is a Frederic Malle perfume. This location is intimate and unique just like Giovanni’s service — thank you for being the perfect guide. The gift set is the perfect way to make someone feel special while also letting them try the best varieties of scents they offer. I look forward being a customer for all phases of my womanhood.

Giovanni was an absolute delight helping my partner & I select perfumes to replenish our travel set. Not only did Giovanni have a great understanding of + ability to talk about scents; but was able to explain how they change when worn & how to layer scents for an even more interesting scent. Friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable - again, an absolute delight to work with!

Yelp
I think the stores atmosphere / products are truly great. I've always enjoyed my experiences here at the store , and even when I am just casually perusing scents , I get great experience. That was until yesterday, when one of the younger men on staff had the biggest attitude with my boyfriend and I. I don't know if he thought we didn't fit the demographics of who should be shopping there , but he made us feel wholly uncomfortable and seemed to just be trying to push us out of the store. When your customer service style is talking down and turning your nose up at people casually asking questions you don't deem 'worthy' of the brand's time , you make people not want to spend their money at your location. We eventually found something later that day at another store that we loved, and without the sour taste of the young man's energy. Only come here when he's gone, if you want an environment you can actually ask questions without being made to feel stupid. 2/5
