Edmonton International Airport

Today was a typical Edmonton winter day: –30°C, low visibility, and more than half of both arriving and departing flights delayed. With the Christmas holidays in full swing, the airport was especially busy—many travelers were heading south to places like Mexico and the Caribbean to escape the cold. The lineup for oversized luggage was at one point extremely long, either due to system issues or simply the sheer volume of passengers. What stood out, though, was how hands-on the staff were. Whether they were airline employees, security, police, or management, everyone seemed genuinely involved. They weren’t just standing aside giving orders—they were on the floor directing traffic, helping separate luggage lines, and keeping things moving as best as they could. It was nothing like those news clips of officials showing up to “inspect” a situation while their shoes stay spotless. Here, people were actually working. As the provincial capital’s airport, Edmonton may not have the same route network as Calgary yet, but in recent years—especially after the pandemic—there’s been real, noticeable improvement. Both the airport’s facilities and overall operations feel like they’ve stepped forward. Hopefully even more international routes will be added in the future.

Edmonton International Airport is a modern and well-organized airport that makes traveling pretty straightforward. The terminals are spacious, with plenty of seating, clear signage, and easy access to check-in, security, and boarding areas. There are a good number of food options and shops, so you can grab a snack, meal, or last-minute essentials without much hassle. The staff we encountered were helpful and friendly, which made the experience even smoother. Overall, YEG is efficient, clean, and comfortable, making it a stress-free airport whether you’re arriving, departing, or just connecting through Edmonton.

This was my first trip to Edmonton since leaving nearly 20 years ago. I don’t remember much from back then but it sure looks like it expanded by a lot and it looks great! It has a feel of a much larger city. I was off the plane, with my baggage, and in my rental car in less than half an hour. Maybe I was there during off peak hours but impressive nonetheless. 👍😎

Very clean and organized airport. Security was friendly and was very quick. Getting to and from the airport by bus (747) is also very straightforward. One thing to note is if you travel to the airport by bus, it drops you off at arrivals, so you will need to walk up the parking lot stairs to get to departures. Overall good experience.

I recently traveled through Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and had a truly pleasant experience from start to finish. The airport is clean, modern, and well-organized — everything you’d expect from a major Canadian hub. The airport check-in process is quite smooth. There are electronic kiosks for self check-in and sufficient staff around to assist passengers and help with securing their luggage tags. Traveling in business class with Air Canada gives access to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge. The Edmonton lounge in the morning around 9 am before my Toronto flight was extremely full and it was difficult to find a seat. For general passengers, there are many food options and shops throughout the secure departure level. Boarding is organized by Zone number according to your purchased ticket. Generally an efficient process. I hope their airport arrivals area by the luggage luggage carousels are upgraded. They are pretty old and below international standards. The ceilings are low. A legacy of an incomplete airport-wide renovation that focused on other parts of the airport first. The airport compares favorably with other Canadian airports. The airport appears clean, well organized and well run.

Edmonton International is not a bad little airport at all. Security can be a bit slow, but nothing out of the ordinary, and overall it’s clean, easy to navigate, and perfectly serviceable. Gets the job done without any unnecessary drama — which, when traveling, is a win.

Nice clean airport with plenty of restaurants, bathrooms and seating areas. They just keep the heaters too high on for winter weather. Ventilation and temperature control could be better

Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is a mixed bag, and unfortunately, my experiences there have leaned more toward the frustrating side. While the domestic terminal is passable, it falls short of the standards I've come to expect from modern airports. There are numerous food and shopping options, but quantity does not equate to quality. Many of the offerings feel generic, and the waiting areas near the gates are far from ideal. Noise levels are high, seating areas tend to be cluttered and untidy, and the overall atmosphere lacks the comfort and efficiency that travelers need. My real dissatisfaction, however, stems from the international travel experience at YEG. The setup requires you to leave security entirely to transition to the international gates, which is not only inconvenient but also poorly managed. U.S. Customs was an absolute ordeal; the process took an unreasonably long time, exacerbated by a lack of clear signage or guidance. To make matters worse, the line was chaotic, with other passengers frequently cutting in, which added unnecessary frustration after an already exhausting day of travel. Once through Customs, the international lounge left much to be desired. Many of the quick food kiosks were closed by the time I arrived, even though the terminal was still bustling with travelers. The limited dining options that were available were underwhelming, and the duty-free selection was paltry at best. For an airport that services both domestic and international passengers, it's surprising and disappointing that the international terminal feels like such an afterthought. Overall, Edmonton International Airport is functional but far from enjoyable, especially for international travelers. Improved signage, a smoother Customs process, better gate management, and enhanced dining and shopping options would go a long way toward making this airport a more pleasant experience. Until those changes are made, I'll be avoiding connecting through YEG whenever possible.

Kind of dumpy and rundown. Not many dining or shopping options and the DueFree was basically all items you could get elsewhere just with a slight discount here. Gate areas need more charging and work stations and they are also fairly cramped.

Hub of the Flair Airlines. I find this airport small compared to the other airports that I have been to. But they have enough shops and restaurants to accommodate the travelers. TSA people are polite and helpful when dealing with travelers who are having troubles in using the machine to pass thru customs. Public facilities are clean but I have noticed that they don't have a toilet seat paper. I guess that's how it is mostly. Rental cars are just across the terminal which is very convenient.

Nice airport, smaller but the lines move pretty quickly. Very clean. They have Starbucks, chilis, pubs on the international side, Tim hortons and everything else on the domestic side. Easy to nativity this airport. Overall had a great experience.

Small, clean, compact airport easy to get in and out of even if you are going through US customs. They have enough shops and restaurants to accommodate each traveler. Bathroom was clean but not paper towels, is this a thing in Edmonton? Great visit, hope to be back again, only in the summer!

It's a neat, clean, and spacious airport and also very quiet and uncrowded.  I found this to be the case even arriving at 5pm on a Friday.  I was told by our ride-share driver that the local oil and gas based economy is not in the greatest shape and maybe that is keeping the busyness down a bit.   The atmosphere felt a little depressed but I didn't miss having crowds to deal with either.

Due to flight cancellation I got to hang out here a bit longer than I really wanted. I feel there could be a little more variety in shops and eating establishments.

Clean, busy and big airport but you will not get lost. Lost of shops and restaurants. Toilets are clean.

Nice, small airport. Easy to get in and out. Good eats and last minute shopping inside. TSA always very polite and respectful. No complaints!

every time we fly in here. they have no crew to deplane and no staff to unload luggage. horrible experience every time. We live here but would rather drive to Calgary to fly. less wait time not sure what the problem is maybe need to up the staff pay but need to do something

Pros: - Rental car facility is just across street from the terminal - no shuttle bus. - They handle US customs for outbound US passengers there, saving you time at your destination. - Facilities are up to date and well maintained. - Within an easy 30-minute drive straight north to downtown Edmonton. Cons: - There is no space for people to queue up for boarding. Hence, they spill over and block the concourse. Getting around multiple such crowds if you are traversing the concourse can be challenging.

Priority seating every time we return. We always have Priority baggage. Not only does it take 7264 minutes for the bags to hit the carousel, but the our priority tagged bags literally come out last. Hot garbage and embarrassing.

This makes airport #44. Edmonton International Airport has that small regional feel, however, going through security takes much longer than it should. I could not see why it was taking so long, but thank goodness I got to the airport 3 hours early! Those who waited until the last minute to arrive successfully cut to the front of the line pleading they would miss their flight. Canadians have a soft spot and fortunately for those few who got through, if they had tried that in New York, good luck! Nevertheless, after making it through security, I was hungry and there were only two places open so I chose Chili's. Oddly enough, you sit down, they take your order, bring your food and settle the bill without having to get up at all, that was convenient. The other nuisance about Edmonton International Airport, if it rains and there's thunder, you're not going anywhere, so have a seat. Everything came to a screeching halt including the crew and flight staff, they all just parked it. I guess that's what happens in Edmonton!

Positive: size of airport makes it simple to navigate. It was clean and the janitors provided good customer service. Negative: The security people were curt and unfriendly. I get it, they have a serious job to do keeping us all safe. But they need to recognize they are there to serve and stop being so impressed by their own importance. My several recent experiences with Edmonton airport have all been most unpleasant. I now choose to go to Alberta any other way than coming through Edmonton, including driving 3,500 km from Ontario.

I've never been here! Never in my life. The Starbucks in there is pretty good. And I love watching the cars take off into the air!

Best airport yet, even though it's an international airport, I never seen any other airport was this much chill, the people at custom greeted you with a smile "Hello, Bonjour, Welcome" not looking tired or hated their jobs like the TSA people at my local airport, wow seriously, the place was also easy to get around, has plenty of shops for food and refueling your energy, I don't know what more could I ask, well maybe a little history of Canada from sports attractions, they designed everything so well at this place. Not my final destination, but I felt a bit jealous that I wish my airport wasn't chaotic.

Edmonton International Airport is the place to go to whenever you travel. You have of course the usual in-line waiting and security, but the experience is enhanced with a variety of stores for food and magazines, books and travel needs. Updates are prompt and boards are easy to find. A few months ago I have stayed in the Renaissance Hotel, which is directly attached to the airport, which was great and a time saver. The hotel was very clean, there is a pool, hot tub and a little gym, as well as a very nice bar restaurant available for travellers. Parking at the airport is very good for short term parking, but there is the long-term parking option, supported by a shuttle bus taking travellers back and forth between the parking and the departure / arrival areas.

I love Canada. I've visited too many times to count during my lifetime. I have many Canadian friends and one of my closest friends is Canadian. At one point, we lived exactly 100 miles apart from doorstep to doorstep on opposite sides of the border in WA and BC. I was there at least once a month and he came to visit at least one time a month. I love the beautiful scenery, the great food and the friendly people. I love the Europe-Lite feel when you're there. Despite all of this, I'm sad to say that Canada does not want your business or tourism dollars any longer. I started to notice that the border and airports were no longer very welcoming some time ago and this has just gotten progressively worse. I was surprised the first time I encountered a surly and unfriendly border guard a few years back but now, I've just come to expect it. Flying in to Edmonton last week, I was very frustrated with the system to scan your documents, which did not work well at all. I scanned and scanned and finally they went through after repeated tries and me hitting the brink of frustration. I was also irritated that after "The Science" showed that COVID had become endemic, I still had to pay $130 for a test to prove i didn't have it in addition to providing my vaccine card when I checked in for my flight. They wouldn't even let me on the plane in Las Vegas without those items. My Passport and Nexus card were practically an afterthought. The cost of everything in the country is just obscene now and I was told that if I thought flying in to Edmonton international was unpleasant, gird my loins for the departure. I was also compelled to pay for an additional COVID test to return to my own country per order of the Canadian government, which took another hour of my time in addition to costing me money. When leaving Las Vegas, I didn't even have to pull my computer and iPad out of my bag before running it through security. At YEG, I had to and then the security people did something I've never had happen anywhere. I'm not saying I've never had annoying experiences going through security before. I always have electronics and power cords with me. I'm saying that this was astonishingly bad and the security people were monumentally rude and disrespectful. After my first pass through security, they took my carefully packed and organized computer backpack and emptied it's entire contents into multiple trays and re-ran them through the ex-ray machine. They confiscated the lighter portion of a zippo lighter I was carrying and acted annoyed when I asked them for the casing back because it was sentimental to me. They were rude and spoke down to me at several different points and scolded me for having ice in my water bottle even though I'd drained the liquid out of it. They acted as if they were doing me a favor letting me through at all. I finally got angry and told them that the way they were acting was unacceptable. They seemed annoyed when I mentioned that I'd flown all over Europe and never had such an invasive, rude experience or even close to it. They just shrugged it off and said they were not Europe. They even seemed annoyed that I had even said it. I pointed out that I had flown all over the US as well and this was ridiculous. They informed me that this is why YEG is the safest airport in the world and then turned their backs on me and walked away. I'm sure that the folks who run Be Gurion Airport in Israel would have something to say about that. I told them that was not true but they just ignored me. Now, I'm not saying that this is indicative of all or even most Canadians overall state of being. What I'm saying is that they are the ones who elect the government officials who do these things. The problem with the majority of politicians in general is that they are for more interested in gaining and exercising power and dominion over their constituents than they are with doing what's good or right for them. We have a similar problem here in the US but also have a Constitution, electoral college and checks and balances to help keep them in line. Does it always work? No. Does it work far better than what they have in Canada? Empirical data points to "Yes". So, my advice to all of you is to avoid Canada until they get their crap together and get rid of a few of the tyrants they have in power who are doing these miserable things to their own people as well as those bringing needed tourism dollars into their country. I can stay home and get abuse from my own government, thank you very much. The devil you know is usually easier to deal with.

Edmonton airport (YEG) is a huge and super clean airport offering non-stop flights to and from the major cities of Canada, Central America, Mexico, and also the Caribbean which is really cool. Edmonton International Airport also is one of the busiest airports in the world. Like Europe, it is critical that you be at the airport on time because they take off there where we get on the plane here. It's almost worst than going to Miami International ( no thank you to Miami and it's stupid slow customs/immigration). So we got there early, grabbed some snacks then got I'm line. Immediately we hear that our plane was going to be leaving in 10 minutes. We were not far away but where we were in line we would not make it and staff will not let you cut the line. So, I got desperate and started asking to cut and while they all let us it still wasn't fast enough. I didn't want to have to get another flight so I offer the man at the head of the line $300 or we would lose our flight. Him and his wife refused the money and let us go. If he had not we would be three sad puppies. I'm so pleased at the great show of humanity where everyone has understood how it is YEG is very clean but that's not what you'll remember YEG for. The architecture is very nice. Straight from walking the airport into waiting for the flight to boarding to getting our luggage. Staff is very helpful (except the ones thst won't let you cut in line- I actually understand thier perspective! ). Airport Authorities can be seen throughout the airport. I'm thinking about coming to Canada again to walk around and experience sime cities again since I was young the last time

Practically empty airport today but almost nothing is open! Couldn't find a vending machine for bottled water or a place to get a coffee after passing through security. Tim Hortons and the Hudson News both closed. It's only 2pm so not sure why nothing is open. I ended up going to the Canadian Brewhouse for a drink pre-flight - at least they have bottled water. Everything in the airport is clean and they have hand sanitizer and wipes readily available as well as free WiFi, so that's a plus.

Medium size airport but you have everything you'll need; Clean bathrooms compared to Toronto International Airport (YYZ), a handful food options and shorter distance to get to your gate. I always like not having to take a tram to get to my gate. International and domestic flight kiosks are close by to each other so if you do get dropped off in the wrong are (like I did), you can just walk on the other side to check in. Customer service and TSA are pretty much the same everywhere... they're helpful and nice if you're nice to them (so be nice to them, lol). Since the airport is in Edmonton, it's not as busy as other airports which give you somewhat space as you wait for your flight. Seats have charging stations which was a plus. Overall, it's an airport. Better than YYZ like mentioned above but either way, you may or may not have to go through it for your connecting flight.

I love smaller airports it takes no time to get thow serenity and they had a nice selection of things to eat

Man were we ever tired! Simeon and I went to the Oilers game with some of my family the night before while the girls went out to dinner and hung out with remaining members who didn't go to the game. We all worked hard to be home before midnight even for New Year's Eve since we had our early morning flight back home to Los Angeles. Thankfully, the flight was already delayed 45 minutes so we could get a bit more sleep! Also thankfully, the weather cooperated and although it was very dark, it was not snowing or even windy when we awoke. The 20 minute ride out to the airport from my parents house was quick so early on New Year's day. There was hardly anyone in the airport except all the other travelers who decided the bargain for flying on New Year's day was worth the lack of sleep on the holiday. The clean (this is important to note considering how dirty snow mixed with sand is outside) and spacious check in area at the airport also had great signage. We pretty much walked up to the check-in area and got our over-weight bags checked. Maybe a bit too much shopping at West Edmonton Mall, haha. We headed towards security which had a painfully long wait considering there was hardly a soul at the airport. Though when I got up to the area, the guy seemed pretty new on the job and actually kind of clueless. I had to explain to him which state Los Angeles is in and where California is on the map and how long it takes to fly there. Is this payback for how dumb Americans generally are about Canada? Maybe. Customs was a breeze compared to security. The two guys working were in a great mood and let our family of 5 back into the 'country' pretty quickly. By now we were all starving so once we got to the gate, we looked around at food options. There was a Chilis (no thanks!) a Starbucks, and a restaurant that fit the bill for having breakfast. The boy and I were hoping for Tim Horton's to be there. Oh well. Our flight was supposed to start boarding pretty soon but we were hopeful that we could squeeze in a quick breakfast. We were wrong. Just as our food arrived, they were already boarding. Our server was gracious enough to grab some to-go boxes and we were in line to get onto the plane within two shakes of a lamb's tail. On the plane, de-iced, and in the air quite quickly enjoying our unplanned to-go breakfast. Smooth operation at that Edmonton airport and a wonderful trip with my family for Christmas break.

Best airport ever as it's small and has everything needed and necessary. Employees are very nice and helpful! There needs to be a few more food options though! Tim Hortons is best with friendly staff!

4.5 If anyone had ever been to the old airport, this would be the easiest 5 star review possible. Don't expect to be overawed by anything, but for a city of about a million - serving a catchment of about 2 million at best, I'd say it's pretty nice and offers a lot considering. I like the large open look with the high ceiling and lots of natural light throughout. For security they offer way more stations relative to passenger volume than Toronto for example - FAR better in fact. Just in general regardless of airline or business, people also seem friendly and more helpful as we've had a few experiences flying with children. They have better wifi than many other airports - at least better than any I've been to in Canada. Restaurant options aren't spectacular but they do the job. I liked that Chilli's had ready-made wraps and salads that we also reasonably priced. My wrap was certainly a tastier and cheaper option during the flight than what the airline was offering. Not much else other than note that it's south of the city if you were planning your stay on being closer to the airport. Probably a smart move since they could also compete for business in central Alberta too.

Pretty decent airport to fly in and out of. You can tell it's relatively new still. Nicely set up as far as where everything was. Customs wasn't too bad. I flew in later at night so there were no lines really. One line for Canadien Passports and one line for everyone else. Again, it wasn't too busy and they had a few desks open. The baggage claim area is unique where it's decorated with hockey stuff. Cool set up. As far as flying out, it was pretty smooth. They have the walking escalators to help get down the longer corridors. Plenty of shopping and restaurants as well, past security. Security wasn't too bad. There was a line but it moved pretty quickly .

I really believe that this airport deserves 4 full stars. Why? Well first off.... - It is clean - It has free wifi (the airport and Shaw Open). Unlike YVR, the wifi doesn't log me out every so many minutes. It is constant, stable, unlimited wifi. - There are many other options other than food court. Yes they have Chilis, Gretzky Bar, Cookies by George and other food options. - The airport is bright and has nice displays. You can tell, lots of money has been spent on up-keeping the place. - Chairs are in good condition. - Signs are available and easy to understand. - Lots of chairs and seating area. However, there are some cons. Example is limited charging outlets for phones and laptops. I feel that Vancouver can learn from this airport. Food options are very important for people with long layover and don't want to hang out at a lounge. Note that this review is based on the Domestic Terminal.

I landed here at the Edmonton airport. It was moderately busy, washrooms were kinda clean kinda not. I saw some interesting splatter on the toilet, but it is a public toilet. Rental was easy to find and the offsite shuttls to car rental easy to find help to arrange. The lounge was typical to plaza lounge. I stopped in before 11am so I didn't have the full perks but the breakfast was complete, service was great.

All is well except getting home. At least the last 6 times we have to wait over an hour to get our bags. We are even the only plane here and waiting. Mexico, US, Europe airlines are all ESY quicker to get luggage to terminal.

A very poorly managed airport... just look at what they did to the pick-up and drop-off areas. Not only that... they can't manage ground crews... too many times i've been left sitting on the Runway for extended periods of time due to no ground crews!

A much improved airport. Nice flow. Easy to get through, whether you are returning the rental car or going through customs. Friendly staff and clean! Clean bathrooms. Shops are good. Food options are ok.

I have flown into and left from YEG dozens of times, both in the sweltering +30C heat of summer and the -40C bite of winter. I've seen it packed under a meter of snow, swept clean by windy rainstorms that threaten to tip over the buses, and baked by a late-afternoon sun so hot that the Canadians get a little testy. Just a little. But YEG doesn't lose its utilitarian charm, and even boasts a few sweet moments: * Upon entry, there's a walkway slidewalk on the way to customs that includes a beckoning sound and light show. * The baggage carousels decorated with team gear, figures, and TV instant replays - one for the Edmonton Oilers, the other for the Eskimos. * The Tim Horton's that serves as the first joy of Canada, and the Harveys burgers as the last (right by departure security). My only gripes about YEG: * The Wi-Fi never seems completely debugged. Either it's the logging-in situation, or the goofy "become a member" rigamarole, or the throughput seems saturated, or it just doesn't work at all. * The US-side of things needs Canadian concessionaries for our departure binges. I want a Tim's, not that lame Starbucks stand that can't seem to brew a good cup of coffee. The food options are equally dreadful. How hard is it to best represent Canada for a visitors last moments in YEG. * AND STOP TRYING TO SHOVE "EIA" DOWN OUR THROATS! We like "YEG"; it's quirky and delightful. Whatever faction decided upon "EIA" as a desirable replacement are clearly against joy, rainbows, serendipity, and chocolate :-) Seriously, stop with the "EIA"; it adds nothing to the attractiveness of the airport and is part of the downward slide to forgettable mediocrity; think EWR or SLC. Also, opening now at a YEG near you, the mall! Yes, there's a concerted effort to have retail and restaurants in the area just adjacent to the airport. I adjudge this a good thing; there'll be more hotels, food, gifts, distractions, knickknacks, and things to do before leaving and after arriving. YEG, until we meet again...

YEG is a nice airport with good facilities, kind people and good planning. The airport is nicely compact with accessible walkways between sections. The only thing I think is somewhat lacking is the limited space of the front line airport services such as checkin, baggage drop and ticketing. It is difficult, sometimes impossible to make your way to another airline checking due to the lineups that congest all the walkways on the front line areas. This is not the case once you pass through security where most areas are spacious and well planned. This issue should be addressed.

It's a great little airport. You can definitely find better (ie - direct) flights if you're willing to drive down to Calgary, but that's not always an option. So, YEG it is. The international side is lacking comfortable seating... which is strange, since you have to be there earlier than you do for a domestic flight. Also, food options are lacking if you have an early morning flight - I've yet to choose a breakfast that doesn't upset my tummy. But I'm very happy for the recent addition of a Booster Juice! Many more food options on the domestic side. Almost anything you could ask for. I do wish there was a Tim Horton's on that side of security though. I've never had any issues getting through security - I don't find that it takes particularly long compared to other airports. Signage is great - Can easily find my way around here.

This place deserves 5 stars. Not only because Edmonton is my home and I want to support our airport but because it's a phenomenal place. Since I was here last in March there have been some changes to security in a positive way. I had some issues scanning my boarding pass because well I wasn't scanning my boarding pass. The lady came over promptly and helped me. Security going through with my carryon as busy as it was it was fast and the people were all very friendly. WestJet people quickly helped me as I had to check my second small ish awkward bag. She packed it up really well for me. I was pleasantly surprised. They are all doing a great job and I've never had issues here. It's clean, it's bright, there's security everywhere and on this morning in particular people were just very friendly. That's 5/5 for me.

I've flown to this airport a few times. Pros in my experience it has never been extremely busy. At most it has taken me a half hour to get through security. The airport is pretty clean and has nice restaurants and shops. My only warning is the customs people all seem to be on power trips. I'm American and have traveled throughout the world and felt like the customs person one particular time was about to take me to secondary questioning because he didn't believe I was coming to Edmonton to visit a friend. I swear every time I'm at that counter for five minutes describing how I met my friend, how she met her husband etc. The same friend typically has multiple questions when she comes back to Canada from visiting her family in the states. At one point they did bring her to secondary questioning because they thought she was kidnapping her children. So just FYI they are super into their questioning at the border.

This is an utterly pleasant airport to travel through but... My gripes are simple and the only reason I've taken off any stars. If you're going to offer free wifi, the network needs to be able to support the amount of travelers coming through. No less than 20 times did need to connect, disconnect, and reconnect in order to use the internet. Additionally, there was zero ability to load Instagram nor simple social videos, and you can forget about sending and receiving images via text. That said... from the desk agents at Air Canada, to the security personnel to fellow travelers, everyone I met and spoke with during my visit was extremely friendly. Oddly to me as an American, no one seemed to be in a rush, and everyone was respectful of one another and their space. There are a lot of tasty looking restaurants and interesting shops to occupy the time, and plenty of comfortable seating and outlets to charge devices. But again, that wifi situation too. All that said, this airport is a breeze and no one should worry about traveling through it.

Ugh, I hate YEG airport. The security here is TERRIBLE - slow, inefficient, rude, and it seems like a good portion of them are just utter morons. The Nexus line here can be much longer/slower than the regular line up. Bonus: sometimes they have surveyors standing outside the security area asking you for your input (my advice is do it and tell them how much they suck!). The AC lounge is on the smaller side, and it can be hard to find seating. The Plaza Premium lounge is also small, although seating is easier to find. I prefer the Plaza Premium over the Maple Leaf. The renos and recent additions are nice, and were very much needed. There is more choice for restaurants now, and they're in the process of opening up a Delux burger in the secured area. Your dining options in the general area of the airport are still limited to either Harveys, or the Jasper Bar & Grill. Free wifi available. Supposedly you get faster wifi if you sign up for an EIA account. I never log in to my EIA account, but enjoy getting the email deals sent monthly for discounts on parking, shopping and eating. $50 for a 30 min RMT massage, and they occasionally have discounts on the EIA newsletter, if you're looking to kill some time before boarding. Baggage handling seems to have improved; they're no longer as slow as they used to be. When arriving in YEG, and you're trying to get somewhere, you have your choice of taking an overpriced taxi, the sky shuttle that runs less frequently than they used to due to a decrease in business, or you can take the 747 bus who recently doubled their fare AND they only run hourly in the evening. The pick up area outside departures is atrocious; cars are frequently double parked (hell, I even saw triple parked at Christmas).

A small "major airport." Edmonton has many flights to a good selection of North America, as well as a KLM flight to Amsterdam, where you can easily connect to most of Europe and elsewhere in the world. The Terminal is spacious, without being too large. There's a fair selection of restaurants and shops once past security, and upon landing, baggage return is quick and efficient. Getting to car hire is straightforward and then it's an easy drive to the highway and onto Edmonton itself.

Currently, there is road construction. Pain in the butt, but what can you do? The expansion cost the flyers dearly. Was it worth it? No. They built more gates, and yet there are not any more flights than there were before. More shopping? Great. I don't really give a f***. I want to deplane sooner than 30 minutes after landing. I want to get my luggage sooner than 30 minutes after deplaning. I want to be able to order an Uber instead of being extorted by the cab companies. I don't want to pay $6.00 per 15 minutes to park. More gates. Really??? Fix the parking problem fir cars, not planes. P.S. I've flown to 46 countries. I know how things work.

I had a really terrible experience in the security line at the Edmonton airport. In fact, I felt like everything was handled in a way that did not enhance security, but threatened it. I carry a hydroflask with me and sometimes I forget that there is water left inside when I travel. I know, my bad. However, every other time this has happened in any other airport I've been to, I've been able to dump out the water remnants rather conveniently. Here at Edmonton, I was told I'd have to go dump it out at a restroom in the ticketing area. LOL. I literally laughed out loud. Well how the ef am I supposed to get back to the ticketing area. Apparently, they hadn't thought this one through. A "manager" had to escort me back to the ticketing area, but get this, it was through the prohibited security area where all the "officers" are looking at computer screens and what not. Lol. If I were a terrorist, I'd bring in a few teaspoons of water in a hydroflask and need to be taken through the prohibited zone to dump it out. Isn't the point to get into prohibited zones? And the manager of security would escort you right into it! So nice! I ended up dumping my water into a trash can so I wouldn't have to wait in line again. Idiots.

Came to the airport today to pick up Great Grams so that she wouldn't have to ride a taxi cab home to her farm all alone :-) Now, this review is only in regards to picking someone up - not flying out. The construction in the parking lot was a pain and required that I park further away but other than that I was SUPER IMPRESSED! First, I had my 2 month old baby in tote with me... Uh - oh... what's gonna happen? But much to my surprise they had a lovely family change/wash room on the arrivals level that had a rocking chair for nursing my baby, huge stall, very clean and get this Moms - a sink specially designed so that I could bathe my baby if need be! And even though all washrooms at the airport are fully automated - they put temperature controls (the old fashioned handled kind, lol) in the family washroom so that if I needed to wash my baby I could control the temperature. Also, I checked in at both customer service and WestJet to let them know that I was indeed at the airport to pick up 90 year old granny and left my name in case the person wheeling her on the wheelchair couldn't find me me. They were SUPER friendly and helpful and I had no problem meeting up with the staff at all. There was even a little toddler ball pit - crawl through toy across from the Booster Juice (which would have been a lifesaver had I also brought my 3 year old!) The new artwork on the walls was modern and clean! Two big thumbs up!

As this is our local airport I have gotten fairly accustomed to the routines and floor plan tricks. I am sure there are plenty of people who have described the tricks and trades of this location so I am going to leave that alone. My favorite souvenirs gadget store is beyond the security gate, the pubs are all pretty decent except for the Eskimo's (Go Riders)!! Keep an eye out for silver booths as the sale items can be decent present opportunities!! Pretty simple, pretty basic and pretty friendly are what I have found with this airport and that is all this traveler needs. The security lines are typically efficient and the traffic flow is worse in other cities so we can't complain too loudly even if we are running late.

Edmonton Airport, it does exactly what it says on the tin. It's not all bells and whistles, the Duty Free is pretty basic and they have a few of Tim Hortons (essential). I've had a few hairy moments where I've been worried about getting to the gate on time but mostly it's been fine and the staff are very helpful whenever I've needed assistance with anything. The Canadian side after security has a lot more food options and stores to kill time in, when you are waiting to board. But if going to the US there is less happening. You can get a bite to eat, a coffee and a lot of techy products. But I like to look through 100 magazines and go for a pint. I dropped them from 3 to 4 stars because they don't have a pharmacy anywhere in the airport which bothers me... what if I forgot my toothbrush or contact lens solution? I think that's an obvious store to have within an airport. The best part about this airport is coming home, and collecting bags from the carousel that's got the Oilers cheering you on!

EIA is my home airport, so it's the starting point for all my adventures outside of Edmonton. I've traveled a lot to many different airports, and I have to say I'm pretty satisfied by Edmonton's airport. I'm also a big supporter of flying out Edmonton instead of Calgary, to increase our international flight capacity and frequency. To pick up arrivals, there are hourly parking options, as well as a cell phone pick up area. Beware, the cell phone pick up area is heavily monitored, and staff will not let you wait for longer than your allotted five minutes before shooing you away. There are lots of check in counters for departing travelers, and I've found the staff to be helpful and easy to talk to when I need assistance. The airport has been undergoing renovations and improvements for many years, and the brand new security check is now open. It's streamlined and has many bays to help you organize your bags on a tray before sending them through the scanner. Post-security has a variety of restaurants and stores, with a good variety of quick service and sit down. The Belgian Beer Cafe is so good, I wish it was somewhere in the city instead of in the airport! The US departures area is fairly small, but is a comfortable place to wait for your flight. I've always found EIA big enough that it's not crowded, but not so huge that I'm worried about running to gates if I'm in a hurry. I generally don't find that flights are delayed often, which is always a plus. I'm biased because I know this airport so well, but I still like it.

We recently took a flight to the US and experienced the great renovations. Before the customs area was drab and cramped but now there's a lot of room to fill out the customs card and there's a sign showing the estimated time to go through security and customs. Being an early morning weekday there were a few flights departing so the time was close to 30 minutes. The stanchions were set up so everyone was orderly and the staff directed us to the line ups so they weren't too crowded. Also, smart marketing to walk through the duty free shop towards the gates and food vendors. There are more food choices now but not great. There's a Quiznos, Starbucks, and I think a sandwich place. The seating around the gates was good and 2 bathrooms that were clean and not crowded. Next time we fly to the US, will look forward to another good experience.

While I was only here briefly, either heading out straight for a taxi to downtown or hustling back in to catch a redeye flight, I found my overall experience to be pleasant. It's still a relatively new airport that feels modern and shiny. Arriving from the US, I found Customs to be a breeze, which was a pleasant surprise. Now this might not be the norm, but the lines through Customs upon arrival were short and lines for security and Customs before departure were non-existent. Grabbing a taxi was very organized and a breeze. Just wish YEG was a few kilometers closer to Edmonton proper. Ah well. Overall a great airport!

I fly in and out if here pretty regularly. Best things: there are people to help you if you need help, customer service is good; line ups are reasonable, there are places to eat on both sides of security, it's spacious and clean; the wifi is great, lots of places to charge your devices. Parking is expensive, but it's an airport...that shouldn't be a surprise. It's a little far from the city so if you're going by taxi be prepared for that but there are lots of shuttles that cost less. Everything is well signed so it's not hard to figure out. Like all airports in Canada, the Tim Horton's always has a line...
