This Is North America's Largest Urban Pathway — and It Has Over 600 Miles of Trail

"A riverside park encountered on the city’s pathway system that provides green space and natural scenery a short ride from downtown, making it an easy escape for cyclists seeking trees, trails, and riverfront vistas." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. It's a huge park, but the area our GPS took us seemed like it took forever/ was convoluted. Lots of open space. We seemed to be at the off leash dog park, which was fine because we love dogs. But we didn't have our furry friend with us at the time. Lots of paths and such. No paved areas. There were several benches in one area to have a rest. Beautiful view of parts of the city, especially with fall colour's.

Is your dog wound up and in need of some exercise? Edworthy Park is the perfect spot to let em unwind! It’s my go-to off-leash dog walking destination in the city. The people are friendly, the dogs are happy, and the views are stunning. At times, it feels like you’re miles away from the city, especially on the east side of the park among the trees. You can park in the first lot as you enter and enjoy pathways that extend all the way to the third parking lot. If you prefer not to stick to pathways, the main area usually has plenty of dogs for yours to socialize with. The only drawback? There are no washrooms! So if nature calls, just remember: it’s not just your dog that might need to answer!

Edworthy Park is an enormous picnic place with plenty of open and covered picnic areas, tables, children play grounds, a lot of unending paved and unpaved trails, and huge parking areas on either side of the river that is accessible by an over bridge on foot or by bicycles. In order to park my car on the other side of the river, I had to take a long route; I followed the phone GPS. The popular picnic spot has hygienic, well- maintained washrooms and a cafeteria to cater to the needs of the visitors. A very energetic, exhilarating, and mesmerizing place for people of all ages and kinds.

I was really impressed with this park. I have lived in Calgary for about 25 years but never came to this park for some reason. It's right on the Bow River, has lots of picnic sites and there are fields to play sports in. I hiked the Douglas Fir Trail and it was wonderful. If you go to Edworthy Park, definitely consider trying this trail. Note: it is not an easy hike and not very safe for kids since some parts are fairly steep/slippery. P.S. - Bring bug spray for the warmer months.

Very nice place to visit, relax, take a walk, hike, bike or go with a group have picnics, barbecues and have a superb time. The Bow river flows bordering the park, which is absolutely great to get our feet wet, have a nice dip in hot weather and such. 😊 Very family friendly, must visit atleast once. The place is accessible by transit, has goo connectivity to bike paths and is right next to major roads. Recommend it for sure! 😃

Google
Spend splendid time with kids here and we loved the place. However it’s a busy place on weekends and difficult to find car parking slots near the railway crossing area. Peculiarly of the park is there are hills, cycling paths, kids play areas, many trees so we will get enough shades , good for gathering party, one railway line where trains often run, many washrooms, and moreover we can get into the bow river.

Google
Great park offering everything from trails in the woods, paved trails, along the water, children's areas, picnic areas with fire pits. Walking along the south side you can go almost 6km! A great gem in the middle of the city. Highly recommended to check out as all the locals know how great it is.

Yelp
This is a really great park I don't really understand why there's a stereotype that it's full of drug addicts and homeless people and you have to watch out where you want because it's full of used needles... That has never been my experience so I suggest you give it a try and don't listen to the stereotypes

Yelp
Edworthy Park is an Aboriginal heritage site with a rich history that I first discovered while taking a summer course in University. Unfortunately now it's mostly regarded as a glorified dog park and not always fully appreciated. I'm surprised anyone would call it small though, it's rather large, and actually contains the most edible plant life in Southern Alberta in one little space. This is a herbalists dream park really, and I know many people who have come here to study plants. Try not to take anything from the land without making an offering though; bad form. When it's nice out, I love to come here with a book and a cup of tea from Lazy Loaf, put on some headphones to drown out the yuppies with strollers doing outdoor aerobics, and read next to the river. When it's cold outside, I like to come here in the winter and watch the river freeze over, then thaw in the spring. I love you, Edworthy, a little bit. *Review 14/30 of Yelp's 30 day Challenge 2012

Yelp
Trees, paths, quietness all around. Edworthy park has been my spot to head out for some early morning running the last couple of months... or early evening on the days that getting up that early just weren't happening! I favourite bit to do is climb the hill upto the dog park and then loop around through the hilly trail to make my way back down. Note: Bug spray needed these days. The playground looks like a lot of fun, one of these days I'm going to be 5 again and stop to play. Maybe on the same day I hit up one of the BBQ pits or picnic shelters in the park. Either way, it's yet another beautiful spot in Calgary to spend an hour, an afternoon or a sunny Saturday :).

Yelp
I think this has to be my favourite park in all of Calgary. It's nearby. It's small, but if you are up for an adventure ride your bike or hike to the next park. I like how the spruce trees are lined up in a straight line with red dirt paths. It makes for great pictures. There is plenty of sun and plenty of shade. There is access to float down the bow. And there is even a place to get a burger, hot dog or ice cream. And just for fun you can even ride the horsies in the playground! Families and groups are always bbq'ing here, so everyone is happy and there is always a real positive vibe. To me it has everything a city park should have. Perfect place to get away for a couple of hours and be back home in less than 15 minutes. I will say on a nice day parking can be nuts, so don't expect to find a spot mid afternoon!

Yelp
Pleasant stroll. There is a path that goes around the park so it's a nice stroll with some shade. It is quite peaceful and nice to sit on benches facing the river. However this park can get quite busy on weekends in the summber with family BBQs and get- togethers. There are 2 playgrounds in the NW side of the park and the CN train passes thru the park for the little ones to squeal with excitement! Great for biking, running, walking the dog, picnics, and more...

Yelp
One of the better parks. It's neat because there is sort of a top section and a bottom section. Both offer a slightly different experience. Of course there is also the experience of bicycling up the road or the steep path from the lower portion to the upper. That experience is not pleasant if you're out of shape like me. I used to also enjoy taking the dog out along the path parallel with the train tracks. Kind of quiet and nice. Especially going the eastward direction. Although it's a dead end that way. Also it's a nice place for a picnic get together with family or friends.

Yelp
Can't wait for spring. Love this park, it has it all. From river and playgrounds to ice cream and pathways.
