We wanted to try this place for a long time! We were in the area, so decided to give it a try. Got there right when it opened, very few people were there besides us. Prices are high, bust isn’t everything? I ordered a scramble with sausage and bacon. Hubby ordered pancakes, bacon and eggs. Everything was good. Service was good too. Fun place with lots of fun decor. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Egg River Cafe is a relatively unassuming location from the outside, but when you walk in you’re greeted with a warm and friendly staff who serve exceptional food. As a ‘nomad/passerby’ traveling from a business exposition in Portland, OR — the best decision I made this weekend was choosing to save one of my meals for this ‘hidden gem’. Chai, our server (hope I spelled it right) had the best customer service the industry has to offer. Good customer service is uncommon; great customer service is rare; but perfect customer service is exactly what we received when Chai was helping us. He was patient, kind, courteous, thoughtful, and truly gave an amazing experience worth stopping for. I hope his efforts are recognized and praised. Lauren was also terrific! Thank you for a memorable experience and we look forward to dining in on our next trip out west.

Drove by this spot last night and thought it looked like a cute place to try for breakfast. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated fairly quickly. Someone asked if we wanted something to drink and we asked for two waters. After about 10 minutes, we were still waiting for both the waters and menus, so we had to ask again. Drove by this spot last night and thought it looked like a cute place to try for breakfast. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated quickly. Someone asked if we wanted something to drink, and we asked for two waters. After sitting for about 10 minutes without menus or water, we had to ask again. Eventually, the waters came and the server took our drink order — an iced tea and a cappuccino — which also took a while to arrive. We finally placed our food order, but the dishes came out at different times. I get that it was a busy morning, but a little communication from the server would have made a difference. As for the avocado — my friend had ordered it with her toast, but when the food was brought out, they placed it on my plate without saying anything. I assumed it was just a garnish. It wasn’t until my friend asked about her avocado that they mentioned it had been placed on my plate. Turns out that small slice cost $3, and it wasn’t even half an avocado. That felt a bit off, especially since there was no explanation upfront. The food itself was decent, but with the service being slow and a lack of clarity around things like that, I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to return if I’m in the area again.

One of the best breakfasts we had. Delicious food beautifully served. Loved it.

Google
Delicious egg skillet! Cinnamon French toast was also worth it. Don’t recommend the pancakes, surprisingly! But, we came for the egg dishes so not too disappointed. Cute hole-in-the wall spot and you will never see so many chicken decorations again! Great family spot and for kids. We were in on 4th of July and did best with crowds but that’s why service got 3 stars.

Cozy dinner with a great atmosphere and service. The menu has a good variety, the food comes out pretty quick and it was fresh and really tasty.

Google
This is by far the best place to come to in Hood River if traveling from the Portland metro area. Very good food, excellent customer service and I loved the atmosphere full of roosters and chickens. For the people that say it is expensive...I definitely have eaten at places that were way more expensive in Hood River for less food and non-existent customer service. This place is also open before any other place in the area which is a huge plus!

Google
Food was delicious although it was a little pricey. Servers were most attentive despite how busy they get. Just not very chatty only there to other duties and that’s it. Cleanliness was good on tables and in restrooms. Parking is limited even with their own small parking lot across the street, so try to get there before the breakfast rush. Photos of dishes are: traditional omelette and veggie scramble.

Yelp
Any decent breakfast spot is guaranteed to be crowded on a weekend in Hood River, and Egg River, due to its proximity to downtown, is definitely on that list. Still our wait wasn't terribly long, and was worth it. My Chile Relleno breakfast tacos were an absolute flavor bomb, with the chorizo stuffed peppers playing off the mole rojo like long lost friends, smoky with just the right amount of heat. Nice portion size, too. As you probably guessed, you can get almost any egg-influenced dish you can think of here, from scrambles to omelets to Benedict's and beyond, and it all looked so good coming out of the kitchen (we were sitting right by it). The place is definitely cozy inside, like a small cabin with a diner vibe, with a bunch of wooden tables and booths scattered throughout and kitschy signs and tchotchkes tucked into the corners, but it is definitely cheery. As I mentioned, it gets pretty crowded on weekends and parking is tight, so get there early. Despite the hubbub, our server was efficient and friendly, so there's a very good chance we'll be back. Count me as a happy customer.

Yelp
Egg River is a classic brunch spot. My friends and I arrived around 8:30 on a Sunday, the place was busy but we sat down quickly. Most of the staff is quite young about high school age, they were all friendly and attentive. The menu does include gluten free toast, but the items are not clearly labeled if they are gluten free or not. FYI, if you are gluten sensitive, stay away from county gravy as this is typically not gluten free. The restaurant has homey decoration like you would see at your grandmas house. The food was just alright. The orange juice was a bit watery and not very flavorful. I ordered a vegetable scramble and was pretty underwhelmed with the dish. Not a ton of flavor. Good portion size. My partner ordered the sopes that they had for a breakfast special, he enjoyed his dish. We were a little confused by the random chicken wing in the center of the plate. Overall pretty decent breakfast spot.

Yelp
Cozy, warm and very enjoyable brunch spot in Hood River. This is my 2nd time here and I just want to keep coming back. I had the Reuben sandwich as my first meal here and it was amazing. I remember the sandwich just melting in my mouth and the house potatoes we on a skillet with grilled veggies (sort of a Tex-mex grill). Overall very delicious. This time, today, I ordered the salmon avocado toast with a chai tea latte, and it was pretty much the same experience. Very delicious and a melt in your mouth experience with the poached egg. Highly recommended and I will definitely be coming back:)

Yelp
It had been about 10 years since I've been here as a kid. Was traveling through the area and stopped by for a quick bite. This place was very clean and had a homey vibe to it like i remembered. The menu was full of so many options, everything looked so delicious. Despite it being kind of busy the service was fast and friendly, I got my food in less than 10 minutes. I really appreciate the staff and the establishment for the great meal :)

David F.

Yelp
Phenomenal food. This is now a must anytime I'm traveling through hood river. Highly recommend.

Julie P.

Yelp
I do not have enough words to express how much my family loves this place. There is a homey vibe from the moment you step into the place and the servers are the best! We drive here at least twice a year from Portland just to eat. The food is always fresh. Every bite is delicious and the menu is great. Totally worth coming here.

Ashley B.

Yelp
I was hoping this place is going to be exceptionally good! The location, the name and the outside store marketing I thought was great! Perhaps we caught the hostess on not a great day but she wasn't very friendly. The place was busy, but not busy enough to, forget few things we asked for. The food overall was ok. I was really excited to try this place while in town, but I have to say it was one of my least favorite.

Ilona S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food and super attentive service in a fun restaurant with a view of Mt Adams in the distance. Food was superb and I highly recommend giving them a try for breakfast. I had the veggie Benedict with avocado with perfect poached eggs. My husband had the chili rellenos tacos which were out-of-this-world scrumptious. Seating inside or out. Parking available also across the street.

Paul J.

Yelp
Go down oak Street to this gem. It's not far from downtown. The house speciality short rib hash is a country breakfast lovers dream. The rellano breakfast tacos are great. Good layers of fun ingredients. The orange sauce on the side is spicy. Look out! Coffee was good. The place can get busy so if you can't park in front of the place or directly across the street, you have to drive up and park on the street by the church.

Forrest D.

Yelp
The service is amazing! The food was perfection! Kind courteous top notch service. We were treated like family.

Alyra C.

Yelp
We had the traditional skillet and farmers breakfast. Portions were reasonable and cistonwr service was excellent. My skillet was a bit over cooked bumanot a big issue. Otherwise I'd give it 5 stars

Gary S.

Yelp
Great food, service and vibe. Def looking forward to going back again. Very large quantities.

Ray V.

Yelp
I would imagine this cafe gets really busy. It's not huge, but early on a weekday morning getting a seat was no issue. I'm not a southern raised boy, but I'm always tempted by waffles and fried chicken. That combo strikes a chord in me, and I was really tempted. One went by to a different table, and it looked amazing. Another item I always want to try is a restaurants biscuits and gravy. And Egg River has it on their menu, but alas it has to wait. Instead, I went for the chile relleno breakfast tacos and they didn't disappoint. This chorizo stuffed pepper with eggs in corn tortillas hit the spot. With a blend of creamy and heat it was satisfying to say the least. They've impressed me enough that I will return because honestly most everything on the menu looks tantalizing.

Charlotte S.

Yelp
COME TO DINNER HERE!!! Obviously the breakfast is incredible but the dinner was insanely good. And it was super well priced. We got the chicken sandwich, pot pie, ribs, burger, and chicken and waffles. Everything was amazing especially the chicken dishes and ribs. They even gave us a huge cinnamon role to celebrate a birthday. :')

Bee M.

Yelp
Service and food was excellent! I ordered the chicken strips, they were hand-breaded organic chicken cooked perfectly. My husband had the French dip that comes with grilled onions and mushrooms( optional) and he loved it. My MIL had the burger which was fresh burger patty and had lots of fresh crispy lettuce and thousand island dressing. Lots of breakfast options we'd like to try sometime as we're from out of town but would definitely come back!

V C.

Yelp
What a great diner cafe! We came for dinner and had a delicious meal . Service was great, attentive and friendly. We will be back.

Hungry G.

Yelp
A great place to have breakfast! We stopped here as others in our party had been here previously. I got the Farmer's Skillet and I would definitely get it again. Perfect portion and great fuel for the day. Egg River Cafe checks all the boxes. Great location, good service , clean establishment, and the food is worth driving from the Portland area all the way to Hood River.

Z B.

Yelp
We stop here on our drives east EVERY TIME. Favorite place. Fab food and service. Super cozy feel and awesome views.

Wendi D.

Yelp
Terrible. Eggs were so pale they look like they are carton eggs. Over cooked. The hash browns were crisp on the outside but not done on the inside. Son's chorizo burrito had like an egg (or like a half cup of carton eggs), they didn't bring our toast. No one checked on us the entire time. The coffee was so bitter that my husband who drinks it black put 3 sugars in to make palpable. Overall this place is overpriced and overrated.

Dave W.

Yelp
Breakfast was great, had the eggs Benedict but the $4 cups of brewed coffee were overpriced and not great....skip that.

Luis R.

Yelp
True gem, food was authentic and flavorful. I had the ranchero steak and eggs and it was what I had expected and more.

Brenda V.

Yelp
We ate here years ago and it was fabulous. I'm not sure if they've changed owners. We walked in and noticed that the coffee cups were stained inside. We moved over to another table only to find lipstick on another coffee cup. The food was just slightly warm. Not sure if they're going through a rough time or changed ownership

Robert K.

Yelp
The food is always farm to table and fresh. Service is good and so were the biscuits and gravy. The Florentine eggs were delicious too. My friend got the eggs Benedict and she loved them. They looked really good too and the eggs were perfectly done. We always try to go here when we are in town. I will be back again. Oh I forgot to say that the bloody Mary's are top notch.. You cannot go wrong here. Try it and you will not be dissatisfied.

Yoon Sun Y.

Yelp
I put my name on the list and waited, they crossed off my name without asking. We set down table trying to order waiter start preferred take order from customers after us. I ordered signature steak and eggs. I smelled dish soap in the food. Never go back

Mitch K.

Yelp
Nice little, see the photos, place for breakfast and lunch. Right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, on Oak Ava, a major Hood River road. Parking is just about non-existent, although across the street there is some space. Prepare to wait as it is popular and, again, is small. But it is cozy and the very experienced wait staff know what they are doing, and do it fast. Menu is pretty much American standard breakfast items and sandwiches for lunch. Specials daily. A little touch of Mexico with burritos, chorizo, Mexican burrito breakfast, Huevos Rancheros, Chile Relleno Breakfast Tacos and Chicken Chilaquiles and Eggs. Some unusual items include: Artichoke Brie Omelet, Country Short Rib Hash, Apple Pancakes, Polish Sausage Scramble, Cinnamon Roll French Toast, Smoked Salmon Burrito and regular stuff like oatmeal, scrambles, waffles and pancakes and made to order items that you concoct. Try to come early or other then at prime breakfast and lunch times. Worth an effort.

Mary M.

Yelp
It's hard to park nearby but I found a spot in the church lot across the street. It was very busy but I was seated quickly and received lovely service. Though I'm sure they do a brisk tourist trade the place maintains a down home vibe. Nice funky decor, comfortable atmosphere. I was happy to see chilaquiles served with my steak and eggs. Steak was grilled with great seasoning: peppery, spicy but not too hot. Good coffee, friendly staff. I would definitely return. I suggest trying for an off hour as it looks like it could be packed at the regular breakfast/lunch times.

Briseyda M.

Yelp
My husband and I come here every once in a while. I'm not a fan but he really likes the biscuits and gravy. Says it's the best in town. The service has always been okay. It has always felt like the staff had better things to do. Recently we went in and were helped by Estela and Jazmin. They were so sweet and friendly. If the food had been bad their customers service would have made up for it. I'm glad that Egg River is employing cheerful and welcoming staff now. It's nice to finally be greeted with a smile. Definitely makes me want to come in again.

David F.

Yelp
Been meaning to stop in for sometime but could not get a place to park even though there is a lot across the street. Glad I was able to park today and I tried an unusual omelette they had on menu - Brie and artichoke - which was very good. Fast, friendly service. Will be back.

Lisa B.

Yelp
There was a little wait on a Sunday morning, understandably. Only about 20 mins for 2 people. I got 2 blueberry pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs & sausage. Fantastic food. Life changing blueberry pancake! The pancakes are HUGE. The service was good & all of the front of house staff was super kind & friendly. The vibe here was like old school country kitchen. I would definitely come back as there are many other dishes I would like to try.

wendy s.

Yelp
Unbelievably good. Best breakfast ever, order came fast. Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum!

Josie P.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food here. Great break lunch place. Wonderful breakfast Latin dishes. The staff is very friendly and young and fun. Lots of energy and a phenomenal chef making authentic dishes. They also have large fluffy pancakes and all the great traditional items. My husband and I will definitely be back! Ask for Maria, she is awesome!

Eric M.

Yelp
The food was pretty good, but nothing too spectacular. It's your standard cafe with all of your essential breakfast items. Though the food was pretty good, I did get bit by a tick while sitting at my booth. Apparently, Hood River is tick-central right now, so just something to be aware of if you are traveling to the area in the Spring.

Laura C.

Yelp
Parking: There are about 5 parking spots in front of the restaurant, and then there are 10 spots in the lot across the street. We were lucky enough to get one of them, otherwise I don't know where people park. The wait: We arrived around 9:30am on a Saturday morning and went inside to put our name on the list. We were told the wait would be around 20mins but it ended up being wait was around 30-40mins. COVID-19: They were only allowed to have 40 diners inside, so there were some empty tables but they couldn't let more people inside. You were required to wear masks to enter. Food: Everything on the menu looked yummy! All the plates were huge! We got egg skillets which were so large I could barely eat half of one. The veggie benedict was also delicious! Would recommend!

Meredith B.

Yelp
Pluses: Egg scramble was so delicious! Lots of wait staff asking if all was well without being intrusive. Great ambiance. Cute atmosphere. Seated immediately. Very courteous employees - may have been the highlight of the meal. Minuses: Remember, folks, this is not a coffee house. The coffee was bitter and acidic. My toast was quasi-toasted. My over medium eggs were too soft. Kinda spendy. Hash browns arrived tepid - the first bite was tough, but crunchy, and seemed coated with grease (but not rancid grease). Overall, the place is homey and welcoming. It's a place you want to go back to, hoping the chef was just having an off day.

Gil Z.

Yelp
Found this on Yelp and decided to try it. Parked and the place was quiet, didn't look like there was many people, forgot this was a little town and a weekday. Was quickly seated by a very friendly waitress. Tried their home made corn beef hash and eggs, it was amazing. Great taste, eggs were cooked perfectly and it was a very nice portion. Left satisfied and full. Was hoping I wouldn't fall asleep during my drive. A couple near me ordered some pancakes and that looked great too!! Maybe next time. The place has a nice little small town feel, it was really quite nice, quiet, clean and a very friendly feel to it. Tables were getting wiped down, utensils were clean as well. I did talk to a few customers at the job site and they said that this place is usually busy on weekends and during the peak season. Come early, get a seat and just enjoy the ambiance, food and service!!!!

Summer S.

Yelp
This place is super loud with a big family and kids. Please avoid if you want to have a peaceful breakfast. First of all, we were told 5-10 mins wait but end up staying for 20 mins. A table we finally received was between two family with kids. A kid was kicking a seat from the back on one side and another kid was making a noise hitting a clear plastic wall with a fork on another side. We had to sit and wait for our breakfast about a half hr under this uncomfortable conditions. Coffee was super dark and tasted bad but not only that we didn't get water at the beginning and I got a heart pain from the caffeine I had never had from drinking coffee every morning. We asked for water but it didn't come for a while. I ordered a smoke salmon Benedict but the salmon was super salty and over price. We are very upset to this place.

Stephany D.

Yelp
Great service, good portion sizes and lovely views! Went here to celebrate a friends birthday brunch and had a wonderful time. Mood is casual and friendly. It was nice that there is a parking lot across from the restaurant as they are in a busy road. Place was busy. Nice selection of drinks and food. Eggs made to perfection! Convinced my parents to come down for the anniversary and they are already planning to stop by for breakfast!

Terry S.

Yelp
Pretty decent place to grab breakfast. Good service. Expanded seating area. Friendly staff.

Trish J.

Yelp
What a wonderful find! We booked a room at the hotel up the road so this place was within walking distance. The food was plentiful and delicious. Lots of traditional breakfast choices as well as local favorites like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, Chile relent breakfast tacos. The first day, I had the their signature dish of "Country Short Rib Hash" which was plentiful and delicious, covered in country gravy. Tender chunks of meat served over their house potatoes. The next day I tried their western skillet with a side if biscuits and gravy which was also very delicious. Very good tasting gravy, cooked and seasoned properly! But the best thing about this place? The people. I came in late morning during the weekend rush and was greeted with sincere smiles. I came in another morning, just after opening and the same smiles were there. The three young gentlemen that served us coffee during this time, were as polite as can be and made sure we were taken care of. Overall, next time I am in HR I would definitely come back here, not only for the good food, but for the friendly warm smiles.

Jackie J.

Yelp
AH MAZ ING - service was quick and attentive (and man, do they do business!). You cannot beat the ambience of this beautiful slice of Americana-road-side dining. And the FOOD was just next level. We trusted the Mole and Empanada French Toast specials, then the house special, Cinnamon French Toast. I'd buy this restaurant in a heartbeat. Until then, I HIGHLY recommend.

Bob T.

Yelp
Mexican-American breakfasts, smashingly good. Menu suggestions: Order everything on the menu, then eat it all even if you have to camp in the parking lot for a week. You'll get all your vitamins from the Bloody Marys, as they're full of Bell peppers and asparagus and other notable things.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Parking can be difficult but it's Hood River and space is tight. I have gotten lucky and found parking across the street in the lot. Always greets warmly by the staff when I enter. Comfy booths and a great menu with a lot of choices. I chose the Chile relleno breakfast tacos and they were delicious. Sauce on the side was perfect. Would definitely get again!

S N.

Yelp
Cute themed place, (did ya guess roosters?), really good breakfast menu and our food was delicious, servers on top of it!

Ethel M.

Yelp
They started serving dinner too!! Every time I've gone to this place it's always amazing food and great service! Staff are professional and kind to all!!

Lady Bug Bun Bun Gaga J.

Yelp
Walked in. Saw the "Wait to be seated" sign. Waited. Waited some more. Watched the cashier 3 feet to our left busy herself while completely ignoring us. Watched 3 other staff walk by and ignore us. Finally saw a small yellow notepad with names off to the side and asked the cashier if we were supposed to write in our names. She said yes. Wrote our names and waited outside. When they called two guys in who literally just arrived, we left. The place was nowhere near full. Empty tables. Stay classy Egg River.

Scott P.

Yelp
Wonderful menu. Fast service ,very welcoming. Food was on point. I would highly recommend them for breakfast. Glad we waited to eat here. Cute town.

Valerie H.

Yelp
Love my smoked salmon benedict and the service is great. Nice Mountain View's and I recommend sitting outside on the patio.

Patty C.

Yelp
Chilaquiles are amazing!! Avocado toast is fantastic!! Great service filling portions. Beautiful presentation!!

Chase M.

Yelp
Good food with great service and cozy atmosphere. I would stay away from the coffee. It's not bad but $4 for a regular drip is a bit too steep for restaurant coffee.
