"The head winemaker at Eikendal in Stellenbosch, Nico Grobler has been producing award-winning wines for more than nine years. An innovator in the Western Cape wine industry, he makes mostly single varietal wines like chardonnay, using an “old world” approach that focuses on terroir to produce the fruitiest vines possible. The whole family is welcome at Eikendal. While adults enjoy a pizza and wine pairing, children can partake in a juice tasting of their own. On a nice day, visitors can also take a 1.5-mile self-guided walk around the vineyards to learn more about the winemaking process and the farm itself."

Exquisite sun set watching. The food is filling but I don’t enjoy the mash. The servings are generous.

Eikendal Wine Farm – Where Simple Moments Turn Magical We spent the most beautiful afternoon at Eikendal Wine Farm, and it truly felt like stepping into a storybook. The cheesecake and wine pairing was perfection — each sip and bite perfectly matched — and our little 3-year-old got to enjoy her own cookie tasting with a glass of pink Nesquik milk, which absolutely made her day. But the real magic wasn’t in the tastings — it was by the dam, with the ducks. She fed them, chased them, and spent ages on the big playset swing before I finally convinced her to just sit with me for a while. We settled together by the water’s edge — her on my lap, me sipping a glass of Eikendal’s Classique Red Wine — watching the ducks dive for food, their little bottoms bobbing in the air, wings flapping dramatically after their baths. Then two tiny ducklings — one yellow, one black — appeared with their mom, and when we stayed still long enough, they came right up to us as if to say hello. A few friendly visitors joined us to listen to the “duck stories” I told — our little one laughed with them, then wrapped her arms tightly around my neck, reminding everyone that I was her mommy. As the sun sank lower, painting the dam in shades of pink and gold, I realized this place had given us something far more precious than just a lovely outing — it gave us a moment of stillness, connection, and quiet joy. Eikendal isn’t just beautiful — it’s peaceful, welcoming, and full of little moments you’ll remember long after you leave.

Wonderful views. Lovely terrace at Giovannis. Tractor ride is a really nice addition for kids. Just off R44 so easily accessible. Great vibe all-round

Eikendal Vineyards is one of the best spots in the Stellenbosch Winelands! The wines are exceptional, the views are stunning, and the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. Huge thanks to Brad and Chantal in the tasting room for their friendly service and great wine knowledge — they really make the experience special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top wine tasting in Stellenbosch! 🍷

Visiting Eikendal Vineyards for a wine tasting, our group of 4 initially felt restricted by the recommendation that we all choose the same wines. Although I do understand this when the group is large, for our small group it felt a bit limiting. The experience however did improve from there. The wines, from their Bruts to Whites and Reds, were flavorful, but many fall in the premium price range, making them potentially less accessible for some. I really liked their kids' pairing: strawberry milk with cookies and a fun decorating kit. Combined with the shaded play area, it kept the children entertained. Note that the play area is closer to the restaurant, but some tables in the outside tasting area do offer views of the play area. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and also the cheese and charcuterie platter we ordered with our tasting.

I choose Pizza “The don” it’s very meat lover. You got what you order. Wines are great. We drank a lot in Thailand. Now we visit the real winery

I don’t recommend going here. The place looked rundown and outdated. The restaurant does not belong to the wine farm. The wine tasting was the worst experience I’ve ever had. The female was rushed and had nothing much to say about the wine. The last wine we tasted was brought to us already poured, never saw the bottle. They were not negotiable with the wine tasting cost to be waved when I purchase wine. Just as well, because the wine was not that great at all. The food from the restaurant was great. We had Spaghetti Bolognese and Calamari. The waiters were shockingly unfriendly. Over all was it a bad experience.

This review comes a month late but I am still buzzing from my time at Eikendal. A few days before January 11th, I phoned them to see if I could propose to my now fiance. They went through so much effort to help me set up in the beautiful scenery. The food at the restaurant was amazing and so was the service. I am still very grateful to Eikendal for the experience. Would recommend !
