I loved this hotel, full stop. The facilities were good, the service was good, and the location was perfect.
Stayed here for 5 nights while I was in St. Gallen for a work conference. There are a surprising number of hotels in town, and the Einstein is definitely on the high end of all of them. It's probably the longest walk from the train station, but it's still walkable in ten minutes, fully loaded down with luggage. It's built right behind the old town shopping district, the Klosterviertel, and very close to the funicular.
I stayed in a double room on the ladies floor (the only discernible difference was that we received two women's magazines, one in German and one in English). Our room was large and airy, particularly for a European hotel, and there were great amenities: a Nespresso coffeemaker, free bottled water (sparkling and still), an umbrella, and a full pillow menu. The bathroom was lovely- all marble, with a heated floor, high-end bath products, robes, slippers, and a heated towel rack. I called down for an extra pillow and adapter from the front desk and they were prompt and polite in delivering them to our room.
The breakfast was an additional charge (25 Francs, not insignificant), but it was impressive! It is held in the lower building, and there are a wide array of options: coffee/espresso drinks, at least 4 types of juices, American style hot items (scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, etc), and a lovely continental spread. Charcuterie, 4 types of cheese (they're all delicious!), a variety of fresh, homemade breads, croissants and other pastries, individual jars of jams and the Swiss version of Nutella (higher quality chocolate), fresh honeycomb (!), yogurt, muesli, fresh fruit, and more. Breakfast was a highlight every day.
If I find myself in St. Gallen in the future (which wouldn't be too surprising, given that I've been there twice in the past two years!), I will certainly stay at this hotel again. I actually preferred it to my hotel in Zurich from last year, and the city is very charming.
