This restaurant was amazing. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I only speak English and my friends helped me with the menu and the staff still included me even though they weren't able to talk with me. Loved the food.

This hotel is about 2km up a narrow road above Appenzell. It is approached through a camping site. I thought that I had made a mistake with the booking. The hotel was very busy when we arrived and we had to wait awhile for our room key. This hotel is very busy in the day with guests who come for lunch and the view.||Our room was large and spacious. The balcony was large, from which the view across Appenzeller was truly breathtaking. The walk in shower was very good and the bathroom large. The bed was a comfortable king size. Toiletries were minimal.||The restaurant again has spectacular views. The evening meal was very good as was the breakfast.||The hotel was clean and the service friendly||The internet was good

Appenzell is a small agricultural district of north eastern Switzerland close to Lichtenstein and Austria, and south of Lake Konstanz/Bodensee. The nearest large town is St Gallen. Seeking a campsite for the night after a long drive from Italy we noticed a potential location at Appenzell. The attractive rolling landscape is very different from the dramatic high Alps but has a special charm, and seemed to be less of a tourist honeypot than the lake side. The Landgasthof Eischen is located at the centre of a small hill top camping site where we had intended to put up a tent was quiet and tidy, but as night had closed in and the weather was turning a little damp I thought I would ask if there were rooms free. Good move - there were - and they were spacious, bright, and comfortable to boot. SItting at the cosy bar with a local beer we enquired if they had bar-snacks or food, and this was the unexpected surprise....for there was a very pleasant and spacious dining room (with views) the service was polite and friendly, and we were made to feel very welcome, the stunning food has been prepared by the proprietor Daniel Inaven. We had truly fallen on our feet. Local produce was cooked to perfection and presented with great elegance. A great end to a long day. We were even given complimentary Appenzeller night caps, a herby liquor, as we turned in. The immediate surroundings of a quiet touring camp site might not sound super special and the building seemed modest, but this was an illusion because little did we know that there was a pool and spa here too - tucked away under the old hotel. Breakfast was delicious, with views to the lake in one direction and the higher mountains in the other. I suspect this is a great place to walk and to cycle and I would certainly like to return. Clean, courteous, and comfortable, this family run establishment is worth seeking out. We felt refreshed and ready for the long drive to English Channel. Thank you Daniel and staff.

Landgasthof Eichen exceeded our expectations! The view from our room (302) was breathtaking. The room itself was clean and comfortable... and we enjoyed the balcony, as well. The Brown Family made the experience truly special... they said the property has been in the family for 130 years and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Dinner in the full service restaurant was simply delicious... and the breakfast was filling. You know you're staying somewhere special when you're surrounded by the vacation homes and campers of the locals who come here to get away from it all.

Very nice hotel but found some of the waiting staff a bit lackluster especially in contrast to the owner who is super nice and welcoming. The food is rich Swiss fare but the vegan options are severely limited unless you fancy two carrots, ten beans, two florets of broccoli and two dollops of spinach and cooked kohlrabi around a tomato worth CHF 28.50. Away from food, the wellness area is very nice, clean as are the rooms. Mini bar but no tea/coffee (but you can buy them downstairs if you're feeling flush). Altogether the facilities and views deserve a 3 star review but the kitchen needs to come into the 21st century a little bit.

My family and I, we enjoyed a healthy and delicious dinner there. All happened on short notice. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant building now comprises a cosy Swiss traditional part as well as a nice modern restaurant part with big windows and a gereat view over the pictoresque Appenzell area. The food was top notch, we all liked it a lot. My wife and I both had a traditional Swiss meat loaf which, at times, can be a bit fatty. Theirs was not at all and each bite was a pure pleasure. I happily recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice country side location with a view.
