EKHO Lake House

What a charming hotel this is. There is tradition, but with modern facilities set on one the most beautiful site we experienced in our Sri Lankan holiday - on the edge of a beautiful lake with romantic misty hills in the distance, and quiet fisherman's canoes gliding past the hotel gardens. There's a good restaurant with a great choice for dinner and an excellent breakfast. Totally enjoyed our stay there. And as for the ancient city ruins - magnificent and well worth visiting.

Among the best properties I have stayed in globally. So beautifully done up. Warm and friendly service and staff both at front desk and also in the restaurant. Great food in the restaurant. Amazing views of the lake from the room and outside. If you are looking for a cute little stay in Polonnaruwa with nice views and a beautifully decorated room - look no further. If you want fancy large hotel with large pool you may go elsewhere.||Room tip: We booked superior double room and the room we got was great wrt lake views. It had two doors & windows, both facing the lake

Lovely hotel in a perfect location, with both a wonderful view directly over the Wewa and a 2 minute walk to the ancient city. Simply a stunning location. The staff are unfailingly attentive, providing great service always with a smile. The food is also very good with generous servings. The room was lovely, clean and at the luxurious end of the comfort range. We were extremely lucky to get upgraded to a better room than we booked and enjoyed it greatly. Enhanced by the comedy antics of the group of monkeys on the fence and tables outside first thing in the morning. They enjoyed themselves greatly until encouraged to leave by the gardener with his rake. We had views across the lake while eating lunch that included 2 elephants enjoying a lake edge feed of grass. Altogether cannot recommend this place highly enough. Book now!

This hotel is absolutely beautiful! Watching the sunset over the lake from the plunge pool was unforgettable. We even saw elephants on the other side of the lake! Rooms and food were excellent. Our stay here was made even better by the supreme service and hospitality of Pryantha! I highly recommend this hotel.

Very friendly staff and lovely hotel. Thank you especially to Priantha for all his help. Great food and breakfast (which we had included). Lunch and dinner menu was a mix of traditional curry dishes, burgers, and fish dishes. Evening entertainment at dinner was enjoyed (live two-man band). Beautiful views of the lake and a lovely infinity pool. ||Great location a 2 minute walk from Polonnaruwa old town museum where you can buy tickets for entry. We hired two bikes which the hotel organised to get around the old town; the hotel also organised taxis for us when we needed it.

The Ekho Lake House was a hotel high point of our Sri Lanka trip. While it is certainly pricier than most options, the restaurant experience especially was quite a treat (we had the half board rate). The food skews western for dinner, with quality and presentation that is on par with pricy restaurants elsewhere in the world. ||||The staff and service were also excellent, throughout. The front desk and housekeeping staff were always friendly and very willing to help. The restaurant staff were always on point, up to par with the fancy dining experience. English was spoken well by many. Nishani in particular was very attentive, though I wish I had gathered miss names to mention.||||The hotel fell in the middle of our 3 week trip, which was lucky since their laundry rates are much more reasonable than others.||||The only drawback to mention is that while the room was nice, with functional AC, the carpet was.. old. Overall the rest of the experience more than made up for it.

An amazing place to stay. The views here are to die for, the rooms are extremely spacious and comfortable with everything you need. The food is amazing and the staff are so friendly and very helpful to your needs. Would like to add a special thanks to Priyantha for making our stay extra special and to Sadeeshan for adding to our experience here, they have both along with the other members of the property made our stay extremely pleasant and enjoyable!!

EKHO Lake House is located right over Bendi Wewa, which is part of the Parakrama Samudraya, and just a short walk from the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. The location is ideal if you’re planning to explore the ruins. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. The garden is lush and green despite the scorching sun, and there's a lovely small infinity pool overlooking the lake. It’s always breezy, so you never feel the heat. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with modern bathrooms. Our rooms had DVD players that played a collection of old Sinhala and English instrumental songs in the background. Perfect to relax and fall asleep to after a long day of exploring. The sunset views here are unreal. Watching the sun go down over Parakrama Samudraya was probably the highlight of our whole experience. It’s so calm, peaceful, and breathtaking. The food is generally good, and the Sri Lankan dishes in particular are excellent. The service is exceptional. We were mainly served by Priyantha, Pradeep, and Shanika who were warm, helpful, and genuinely kind. They gave us useful advice about the best times to visit the ruins and what to expect from the weather. This place has a quiet charm to it. It’s perfect for those who want to relax, slow down, and take in the beauty of Polonnaruwa.
