"We settled on El Barrio Burritos, one of my go-tos. I went with my regular: a vegan sweet ribs bowl with refried pinto beans, chipotle hot sauce, habanero hot sauce, diablo hot sauce, jalapeños, chopped pickles, scallions, salad, rice, pico de gallo, Mexican corn, and, of course, the “specially imported” soy-based vegan spare ribs. Queen Vic got “The *NEW* Bangin’ Chicken BOWL — ‘Pollo Poblano’!” It was delicious, per usual, and Queen Vic enjoyed hers."

I hate to leave a bad review because the staff were wonderful, but I am from SoCal and came here specifically because they advertise SoCal style Mexican food - I can forgive and was expecting it to be a bit inauthentic, but what I wasn’t expecting was for it to be completely cold by the time I walked home 5 mins (similar to another review) and the guacamole to be completely brown (the colors in the photo are not altered). Everything tasted a bit spoiled to be honest :(

Google
The staff were exceptionally friendly, and my steak quesadilla order was outstanding, bursting with flavor. When I requested sour cream, they generously provided a combination of sour cream and fresh guacamole, which elevated the dish to perfection.

Google
I have had el barrio quite a few times and the food is good. But literally walked to get a burrito “bowl” and am disappointed by the ratio of portions. There is literally like the smallest portion of beans to rice and then the bowl isn’t even full. For $13.49 for a burrito bowl, I would hope they would feel up the container. It was also cold (I did takeout) after like a 7 minute walk back home. The staff was friendly and pleasant.

Google
I’ve been coming here for 3+ years now and have never had a bad burrito. Incredibly welcoming staff! If you’re not adding the chipotle or diablo hot sauces, you are missing out big time. Very hard for me to pick anywhere else for lunch.

Sean Wilson

Google
Reasonable spot. Portions are small and prices are kinda expensive for burrito/bowl. Expect most of it to be beans rice and corn. I added jalepenos as an option in my bowl and literally got a slice of it. They are definitely skimping but it’s tasty. Anymore expensive than $13-15 and you might as well go somewhere else

Placed an order for pickup and went in to get it. Was greeted by the guy at the counter, and I said hello back. I started to explain I was there to pickup an order, when I saw my name on a bag in the heating box on the customers side of the counter. Reached in and grabbed my order to then immediately be berated for no less than 30 seconds on my mistake of opening the heating box. Was pressed on why I don’t read signs (one label on the top corner saying not to open the box), questioned on whether I have my OSHA food certification, and questioned about my spacial awareness. He then said seeya as I walked out, as if I would ever step foot in the place again. Whoever was working the counter should not be in the hospitality industry as they are the least bit hospitable. Food has been barely serviceable both times I have ordered from here. I tipped ahead of time just to be demeaned.

Google
Second time here. The rice kind of blows, it’s pretty flavorless, and as other comments noted they really fill the burrito with the rice. Our order was messed up twice. I would however come back and try a burrito with no rice or lettuce, because their meats and salsas are pretty solid.

Google
Awesome first meal in Brooklyn! I tried the chicken and carnitas Philly burrito. Both were great. Very friendly staff!

Yelp
I ordered an impossible burrito with rice and salsa, it was much better than my first experience.

Yelp
The best burritos around! Friendly staff and quick delivery. It's a little pricier than others, but the ingredients are super fresh and the seasonings and flavor are divine.
google avatar

Yelp
Maybe just maybe the best burritos in the five boroughs. Definitely in Brooklyn. The Mission Bay burrito is infamous in this neighborhood... for its flavor, its variety of ingredients, ingredients quality, its freshness and its generous size (one can modestly feed two people). The staff are freaking amazingly friendly and cool. So too is the owner. Art on the wall. Music playing out on the sidewalk. The place is a landmark and a treasure.

Yelp
The food is good and portions are good, but the prices are insane compared to other local (Americanized) Mexican spots. But like why are chips and queso dip 10.99? Or a burrito bowl $22? I've been in this neighborhood for six years and this place's prices have gone up quite a bit. It's definitely made me explore other options close by.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm basing this off of a Grubhub order. This has to be the worst food I've ever had in my life. This is also the most over priced food I've ever had in my life. I thought the price of the tacos was insane but figured for the price the food must be excellent. Boy was I wrong. The steak in the taco was wet ? and you have to pay extra for any protein that's in the tacos ? I've had authentic Mexican food where 2 tacos are less than 1/2 the price they were here and came with more on it. The chicken in the burrito tasted like the smell of shredded cat food and the steak also had a really weird off taste to it. The burrito and tacos were completely inedible and went straight to the garbage after one tiny bite. The only positive was the chips from the chips and guacamole stayed crunchy and the carrot cake was good. Literally that's it. Also no limes or hot sauce included for the tacos ? I find it hard to believe this is actually a Mexican restaurant.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Imagine a minority community that was affordable hit with gentrification and store owners like these take a vantage and abuse this opportunity by highly over pricing their items, while on top of that the items are not cooked all the way. I hate this!!! I spend $21.11 on two small tacos! This makes no sense! I was extremely Hunger and was working so I just ordered it, to then notice even the "impossible meat substitute" wasn't even cooked all the way, LIKE REALLY! It did not taste good as well, I had to throw it away! I started feeling nauseous and had to go home and couldn't finish my day of work! Only people who have no sense of what real cultural food taste like would say this is ok and too blind to realize these prices make no sense. Like how do you mess up TACOS !! Do not go here! (The girl at the register was nice though)

Yelp
*too long didn't read: Walked in as a first time customer with low expectations, walked out $17 poorer, and still hungry..* Let me please begin this by saying that I have high standards for mexican food, as I moved to Brooklyn from San Diego. So when approaching a new spot i walk in with VERY low expectations. I usually go to the mexican food truck not fifty yards down the street from this place. The food truck usually comes in the evenings, so this afternoon i walked into this shop. I had never been there before, this was my first time. When initially telling the man at the front that it was my first time here, he gladly helped me through some of the options in the menu. Service was exceptional, he walked me through the menu with great ease and confidence. I do now think that I was being sold. I asked for a 12" verde fajita DOUBLE carnitas, add Pico De Gilla, add jalapeño burrito what I received was a flavorless mush in a wet tortilla. (Most) everything I had asked for was on it, and everything it came with as well (apart from the jalapeño's -and even that isn't a big deal if im being honest-) i expected maybe... just the meat to have a better flavor/texture than unseasoned unbuttered mashed potatoes? it was particularly unnerving to have the distribution of ingredients be so haphazard. one second I was biting into overcooked Spanish rice, the next, just one mouthful of mush that tasted like porridge in meat form, right after a glob of guac additionally, I WANT TO STATE FOR THE RECORD I tipped 20% and do not regret it, those workers deserve every penny. I myself am a bartender. which is why I felt so compelled to write this. the food is BLAND BABY. if she was a spice, she would be flour! B L A N D MUSH and absolutely NOT worth the $17.50 I ended up paying (and then taking home, deconstructing, spicing it up, and heating it all together into some form of edible arrangement. just go 50 yards away to the boys with the taco truck. at least when you ask them for hot sauce they give you that AND THEN SOME. ONE last note: I asked for hot sauce on the side when i ordered my food. It wasn't in the bag when I received it (no biggie) they happily gave it to me upon request. However it's due to this that I witnessed, with my own two optic stems, the man on the grill physically pour the sauce for me. when I went home, took that first initial disappointing bite of the "original flavor tapioca pudding" they call meat, i was hoping to save it with some damn hot sauce. that amazing spicy flavorful burst of either green or red sauce to add that extra kick (or any kick tbh) only to taste an even more disappointing bland and flavorless sauce i've ever had before. My wife thought it was marinara sauce. If you're into quick food, and overpriced flavorless protein by all means hit this place up, ther can get you a soggy sad burrito in less time than the disappointing wrap you'd get from the bodega on the corner nearby. If you wanna spend less and get more flavor hit up the taco truck (in the evenings) just down the block. tonight however, i'm eating ramen..

Gordon M.

Yelp
Prices are absurd. $12 for a cheese quesadilla. $14+ for two tacos. The small bean and cheese burrito is $7 and is smaller (and worse) than what you'd get at Taco Bell. If a Mexican place can't do a good bean and cheese, stay away. You can go somewhere like Electric Burrito and get one three times the size (and significantly better) for $9. What are they thinking?

Yaasameen P.

Yelp
FALSE ADVERTISING!!!! They advertise a lunch special with a free soda or water for 6.99 And it's $2 to add a meat This doesn't include anything on the menu, apparently So when I asked for the lunch special and what my options were. The cashier prompted me to the menu "All burritos are included and only 2 bowls" So I chose a bowl, and this is what I was charged!

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of their tofu burrito, Jalisco style! Their Mexican rice is so good and especially paired with all of the sauces I had a great time. The chips and guac are a little salty for my taste but overall really great burritos.
google avatar

Damian B.

Yelp
A bit pricey compared to other places, but the burritos are awesome, guac is super fresh, and whoever's behind the counter is always been friendly.
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
Food was so good. I ate it so fast I don't know if it had guacamole on it. Definitely will order again.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Popped in here for lunch on a Friday and I LOVED it! No line, food came fast, and the staff was sweet as could be. The vegan short ribs were to die for, and the portions are a good size for the price, especially in the lunch combo.
google avatar

Yelp
One star because the guys who was at the register is disgusting. His attitude, and the way he speaks to a select few people that didn't look like him was absolutely terrible. Speaking down to people in a condescending tone, and talking to me the customer as if I am a two year old is unacceptable. Always ways come here for the vegan rib burrito, and spend $30 at the least every time. But after today's service I absolutely will not be back. Nor will anyone that I know. If he doesn't like the people that are from the neighborhood he should go else where. So to the reddish hair gentleman with the backwards cap and glasses. Your customer service is awful, and because of you I'll never come back. Update !!!! I just noticed the owner went and changed his reply to my review lucky for me I kept the screen shots of his original response where he seemed to be comparing being black to having red hair. Wow! Sir if you believe that discrimination against a race is the same as me saying your hair is red you are sadly mistaken.

Yelp
Best burritos in Crown Heights! A weekly go-to for me and my family. Staff is so lovely and helpful and food is delicious! LOVE El Barrio!

Max M.

Yelp
Best Burritos in Crown Heights!!! The chips and guac is always fresh, give a try to the "Diablo Steak" burrito if you like spicy food is amazing!! Great seasoning!!

Daniel L.

Yelp
El Barrio Burrito is my favorite restaurant in Crown Heights when it comes to quick, fresh and delicious Mexican food. It's the only restaurant that I know of in the area where you can actually get crispy nachos that stay crispy on delivery and their Guacamole is massive for the price and very delicious. If there is any slightest issues or delay on the order Owner Steven is very proactive reaching out and letting you know and he goes above and beyond to make sure you are a happy customer.

Yelp
Glad we tried this place. Goooooooood size burritos for sure. I hate when they are too big because I really dont like wasting food. There burritos are the perfect size. I got the diablo. Good name because it is spicy! If you eat it slow it's great but if you pick up the pace slightly you get that good hot sauce burn. The chips were perfect and the salsa was amazing. At first I was pissed because it looked so wet but nope it was excellent. Going to try the mango one next time! The order was late (not the restaurants fault - the driver got into a car accident) and when we called the staff was super nice. I am BIG on customer service and they have it down pat. It's exactly what I would have said/wanted to hear. I'm definitely ordering again! Thanks guys!

Destiny M.

Yelp
I love this place! I've had their quesadillas, burrito bowls, burritos and horchata and I haven't been disappointed yet! Seriously, go try their food

Yelp
I just ate the Pollo Poblano burrito in about five seconds flat! (Okay not really, it was more like five minutes.) I had read reviews and settled on the pollo poblano and was not disappointed. I first picked it up and it didn't feel as large as I wanted but I was stuffed by the end of it. Also something to note that I read in previous reviews was that the dairy is pretty cold in the burrito. The owner explained that it's because the food is kept at a certain temperature for safety reasons (yay) and you can always ask for the burrito to be heated so that this problem is ameliorated. I didn't do it this time around and the burrito was still absolutely delicious. It will be my new go to place for burritos in BK! Also order through ChowNow if you're ordering online.

Yelp
Do not believe the five star reviews for breakfast burritos. I got a 12" egg cheese & bean version. Way understuffed, with a lot of excess tortilla wrapped around itself. At most the equivalent of 1 egg inside (the menu on Caviar claims 3 eggs). The rest of the filling was soggy, sour tasting veg and potato and a sprinkling of cheese. The whole thing was lukewarm at best -- they didn't bother to warm up the tortilla, and the small amount of cheese inside was unmelted. A McDonald's breakfast burrito would have been more satisfying.

Viviane B.

Yelp
Shockingly good burrito. Maybe my favorite in nyc so far. I'm from Los Angeles and it is a struggle to find a burrito that really hits all the notes I expect out here. ( had a surf and turf burrito with added peppers and onions). Chips are great quality too- fresh fried but thin and crispy. Queso is also great but not as incredible as the burrito.

Yelp
If your walking by fast and your mask is pulled up too high grazing your eyeballs, pull that thing down(but keep it on)! Because you might walk right past this gem nestled on Crown Heights bustling Franklin Ave. It's super tiny, they only allow you to step in quickly to place your order and then once done they will bring it out to you. I wish I would've got the young lady's name who was working at the time, she was very helpful. After pacing Franklin Ave ravenously, we settled on grabbing a quick taco while waiting for a table at another not to be mentioned taco spot up the block. It was SO good that we almost forfeited our table to stand outside of El Barrio and crunch on crispy tacos all night. Now if you know tacos you also know that crispy tacos are extremely hard to find! It's more of a Tex-Mex thing and not many traditional restaurants carry it. In fact we would've done so but by the time that we went back to grab more tacos this place was closing. Until next time!

Yelp
We love el burrito. They have great vegetarian options -- I order the salad bowl with smashed tofu often and it's always well seasoned. The pulled chicken option is great too in the burritos and burrito bowl.
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
Barrio has always been one of our stand-bys, and they never disappoint! Everything we've had is stellar: burritos, nachos, tacos, chips and salsa, you name it. We recently tried the new pulled chicken, and it was INCREDIBLE. Full of flavor, really good ratio to the rest of the filling, all around amazing. They also have great veg options. Unlike some other burrito places, I never feel bloated after eating a Barrio meal. Their food feels clean, fresh, and delicious. Delivery has always been fast and reliable.Thank you, Barrio staff, for providing excellent food for your community, and always being kind and communicative. We love you!

Yelp
Great go-to burrito spot. Especially if you are looking for veggie/vegan options!

Yelp
I order from El Barrio Burritos all the time. The food always tastes great. They're fast too! Highly recommend them!
google avatar

Yelp
Rockin' breakfast burritos. Ready quickly & delicious every time. Pro tip: ask them to toast/press it.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
El Barrio has greatly improved their service this year. They are one of my go-to spots in the neighborhood with excellent vegan & vegetarian options. I have not encountered any issues with the food or delivery as of late. High quality food & good prices.

Maya D.

Yelp
El Barrio Burritos is my favorite to-go burrito spot in BK! Mexi-Cali style with really fresh ingredients, so flavorful, generous size and SUPER FAST delivery! And as a pescatarian, they have SO MANY options for me, vegetarians, and vegans!
google avatar

Lara C.

Yelp
I've only ordered delivery, but it's always been super fast and correct. My favorite thing about this place is it's vegan options. I love that they have impossible meat and tofu as options and don't skimp on the portions.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Super nice little shop. Just moved to Brooklyn from San Diego, and it's not easy finding good Mexican burritos around here. I came for an early lunch and loved my veggie burrito. The chips are good too. Well priced.
google avatar

Han F.

Yelp
The naxchos were perfect and travelled great! quick delivery time. This place never lets me down. solid veggie options. Thanks!
google avatar

Gretchen D.

Yelp
This small restaurant is the perfect place to pop in and get delicious burrito, quesadilla, taco and so much more. With the juicy tender meat or the delightful vegetarian dishes. this place will not be a mistake.
google avatar

Alice O.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. The breakfast burritos are the best I've ever had, and everything else is also delicious.
google avatar

Mihael K.

Yelp
This is a great place to grab some quick food. I don't live in the neighborhood but have ordered both pick up and delivery from here while visiting friends a handful of time. Portions are fair and the prices are very reasonable! The tacos and burritos are both very filled with flavors and the ingredients are fresh. I've tried a bunch of their burritos and tacos (beef, steak, fish, etc) and everything was delicious. I don't eat sour cream or cheese and I've never had an issue getting my stuff without it. I don't go to this neighborhood too often anymore but I would definitely come back if I was in the area.
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
Best coffee close to Franklin station. BREAKFAST served fast and delicious. Anything with VERDE sauce is BANK late nite delivery We always go for steak but was really impressed with the fish, I tried all three sauces. I gotta try and reverse engineer it! I like stopping by and hopping on the franklin subway to or from work.
google avatar

Lindsey O.

Yelp
The burritos here are okay, nothing to write home about. I feel like even when I get a fresh one it's kind of cold (this is from coming three times). The bowls are decent too but again nothing here really blows my mind. I continue to come by because it's quick and easy and close to the train station, especially when I want a healthier bowl situation. The best thing here is the cute Frida mural outside.

Ari B.

Yelp
Don't sleep on the vegan options! The best vegan Mexican food by far! This hidden gem not only has tasty food but they're super quick.

Danielle H.

Yelp
Lunch special my a** this burrito is the size of my face! Omg so good! Best part of this place is the friendly staff

Ethan L.

Yelp
Fantastic burritos, great veggie options. The Philly burrito is particularly scrumptious. And the staff is really nice, the service is exceptional. So good!
google avatar

Marc C.

Yelp
I thought I was going to settle for average burritos as I pass by it all the time. I had no clue how incredible their food is. A must try when you're in the area!
google avatar

Rasool B.

Yelp
Inexpensive, high quality, Mexican fare in Crown Heights is a rare find but El Barrio delivers. The grilled tilapia burrito was huge and filled with all the good stuff. the fish tacos were tasty. The service was friendly, and laid back but professional. Try the tres leches cake as well, a great final note to the meal.
google avatar

Christin M.

Yelp
Good albeit quite cozy spot for a quick, convenient and affordable bite right off the Franklin Ave stop in Crown Heights. Their sandwich board advertises lunch deals/specials as well, but for me Barrio is usually dinner to-go. The food is nothing especially spectacular but when you need your burrito or nacho fix, this will definitely do the job. Meals are consistently prepared quickly, also a plus. The grub alone likely hovers around 3 - 3.5 stars buttttt I'm rounding up and giving Barrio a 4 because of the staff. Big shout out to the cashiers and cooks at Barrio, they are always friendly, smiling and spreading love.

Tejas S.

Yelp
YES I SWEAR BY THIS PLACE. The staff is amazing! I got my burrito the other day and there was a cute little note on the napkin. All of the staff here deserve a raise, but especially the cute girl at the counter. She's so accommodating, patient, and kind, I can't recommend enough that you go there on a day she works. You'll leave feeling so special and important, and always in a better mood when you see her. You'll always want to return for more. Tip her and the rest of the staff super well there--they deserve the best, and they'll return it right back to you.
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
Best burrito options for vegetarians! And they are utterly delicious and flavorful! I order them... a lot.
google avatar

Paige G.

Yelp
This burrito place hits the spot. After living in California for 5 years, I've had a hard time tracking down a burrito that compares to the ones I ate there, but El Barrio is one of the best I've found in Brooklyn. Great vegetarian options as well -- the breakfast burrito with impossible meat makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

Johnny B.

Yelp
Very filling burrito, the nachos are great this place feels like a hidden gem in crown heights

Timothy B.

Yelp
Love this place. So fast and the food is consistently good. I love the Banging Chicken Burrito and spicy queso.
