Iconic Houston Bakery El Bolillo Opens New Outpost in Mission Bend | Eater Houston

"Celebrating 25 years, this longstanding Latin bakery opened its fourth and largest outpost in Mission Bend, occupying 12,000 square feet at 6766 S Texas 6. The new location keeps the tradition of freshly baking roughly 100 variations of Latin pastries daily — from classic pan dulce to decadent tres leches and custom-made cakes — while adding features unique to this site: an outdoor patio serving cafe de olla (a first for the brand), and a menu expansion that includes Asian-style pastries as a nod to the neighborhood’s sizable Asian community. Owner Joel Garza aimed to fill a gap for Latin baked goods on the Westside and to reflect local culture; the interior and exterior showcase hand-painted murals, bright colors, bird light fixtures inspired by Mexico’s muralist movement, and a bell tower referencing traditional Spanish architecture. Grand-opening specials run January 2–6 (including 25-cent bolillos, free tortillas, and cafe de olla), the location is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and another outpost is planned for the Fountain View area." - Brittany Britto Garley

My family and I have had a huge variety of breads, drinks, and tamales and everything is fantastic and highly affordable! Always so shocked at how little my total bill is. I love the atmosphere and service too, it’s such a great spot. Feels really authentic too. Highly recommend!

As always, staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful. Always a great selection of Mexican and Latin American favorites. Novias and assorted empanadas made of different fruits is always available. I always get one of each flavor of empanada to share. The tamales and freshly made tortillas always winners! Try the hot and fresh flour tortillas, flour are the best. Pork, chicken and cheese tamales are always delicious. Coffee is good and hot. Will definitely return very soon again to try more pan dulce!

Wow, this place is like a dream for someone visiting from Florida; we don't have anything like these bakeries here. First, the amount of fresh and well-made pastries and breads, then the price—it is so cheap compared to everything in Florida. We would love to have one here 😀

A great new place for hot bread 🥖. The grand opening was amazing, there were friendly employees welcoming and bring out fresh items. The staff amazing and about all, friendly. All products are sorted well and there tongs ready to help us take all the delicious bread 🥯 If you want to taste Latin American bread, this is the place. Parking is ample and free of charge.

It's a fantastic bakery with a huge variety of fresh Mexican treats. Not only your typical sweet bread, but they also have fresh flour tortillas, cakes, and drinks—staff was friendly. The only thing I would say is that I wish they had prices on the items to know how much I'm spending. I would buy more if I knew how much it was. Overall, my sweet bread was from $1 to $3.50, and bolillos 50¢

Live 30 miles away from El Bolillo but always worth the drive. Sweet bread is always fresh and service is always on point! Don't forget to grab some delicious tamales and fresh tortillas on your way out ad they are tasty and both cooked daily!

Use to be a Luby's here. They did a nice job making it into a bakery. Huge selection of sweet bread. They keep this place clean & spotless. Staff are friendly, but some don't speak English. So brush up on your Spanish.

The most beautiful bakery I’ve seen! Today 3/10/24 was my first visit to this bakery and I was pleasantly surprised, it is clean and organized. Everything is meticulously arranged and very smartly planned. The colorful murals and decorations give this place life along with the beautifully decorated cakes, cupcakes, sweet bread, gelatinas and plenty other sweets to choose from. tried a few of the sweet bread and bolillos and everything was on point. The outdoor seating is not only pretty cool but also convenient. Will definitely return to try more of these goodies. Customer service was also great, every single person I came across was very friendly and polite.
