Overall Restaurant Review
Unfortunately, our experience here was disappointing from start to finish.
First, the shrimp cocktail. For $14.95, I expected an actual Mexican-style shrimp cocktail, especially since the website shows a goblet-style presentation with avocado and lemon. Instead, what we received was six shrimp in a bowl with a plastic cup of cocktail sauce, lettuce, and shredded carrot — basically a small shrimp salad, not a true Mexican shrimp cocktail. On top of that, it was served with our entrées instead of as an appetizer. When I brought this up to the manager, there was no apology. He did comp the ones we ordered and send one home with us, but that version did include avocado, lemon, onions, etc proving they know how to make it properly but didn’t serve it that way in-house. To make matters worse, their website says one serving of chips and salsa is complimentary, but in person they charged extra and didn’t honor that.
Service issues only piled on. I asked for sour cream with my meal, but it arrived so late that I had already finished eating my tacos by the time it came — and only then did I find out there was an undisclosed upcharge. Meanwhile, another family member specifically ordered their meal without sour cream, and it came with sour cream anyway.
When it came time to leave, things dragged out even more. With a large party, we waited around 15 minutes before anyone came to process our checks, and even then they would only take two tickets at a time dragging the bad experience even longer for everyone. It felt like we were being held hostage just to pay the bill. To top it off, while the menu clearly states an 18% gratuity for parties of eight or more, they actually charged 20% without disclosing it up front.
Between the misleading menu photos, inconsistent policies, poor service, and bland food compared to other New Mexican and Mexican restaurants in the area, the experience was simply not worth the price. We won’t be coming back.
