Nothing life changing, but everything was good. The pozole required adding lots of additional spice for me, but it had plenty of chicken and once doctored up was good. One of my favorite things was actually the horchata that had no sugar added to it. It was really refreshing and not overwhelmingly sweet like many on the street.

Do you want a soup /broths? There are so many great soups/broth here and all are amazing, caldo tlalpeño, pozole, sopa de tortilla, etc. a small but cozy place

Delicious. So so good. Come and get the Aztec Soup. Comes in a tea pot that they pour in for you to add some magic. It is delicious and hearty. Nice bits of chicken and these crispy shards that sort of turn into a noodle once the soups in. Comes with a side of cream and cheese that you can add to make it even better. It’s a must.

Wow a place that got ALL the Mexican soups in all regions! I can’t pass this deal it’s too goof to be true. We came in around 3pm and the place was packed with only one open table. We ordered a arroz con Ollita (chicken soup with corn and rice) and caldero (black bean soup with chicharrón and ribs) holy that black bean soup was so good and I also love the chicken soup. I want to come back for more.

Look at this amazing auténtico almorzado. I had a hot tip about this place and it was incredible. Everyone so friendly. And so local. I had the Caldo de Chipilin and had to add some chicharrones y arroz but the rest is just what you get and it is off the HOOK delicious. Add a couple of Tecate Light (the Mexican Natty Lite) and you have perfection.

We were here last year. It was great. That is why we came back. Big mistake. Service was shocking. They forgot my beer. Then forgot to give me a spoon for my soup. One of the salsas that came with the totopos was rotten. It was fermenting in the bowl. We let the waiter know and he didnt seem bothered. I had to doctor the soup with salt and spice to give it flavour. It was very bland. This will be our last visit.

Yelp
Yum! One of our favorite restaurants in Sancris. Love the soups of course and the tacos. Probably impossible to have a bad bite here!

Yelp
El Caldero came in clutch for me and my group of friends during my time in San Cristobal. During our stay we experienced some really cold rainy days and what better meal to get than a nice warm delicious bowl of soup. I ordered the signature dish which was El Caldero and I was really amazed with all the flavor it contained. It was really fulfilling for me and yet I couldn't help but order a taco de chicharron on the side. The taco was really great and the salsas from here were flavorful. I got the chance to try my friends posole and it was incredible! I can guarantee that one can come here and be completely satisfied with just the soups alone or if they ordered strictly tacos, the experience will still be awesome. Also depending on what day you come to El Caldero, they may have certain specials. In my case I came on a Tuesday and got free dessert with any purchase off the menu.

Yelp
The best restaurant in San Cristobal ! Food is excellent! Speciality of the house is SOUPS! From veggie , seafood or meat . The drink house called POX is delicious. Just to start Chips , salsas and refried beans. OMG avocado, cucumber and lime Salsa is the Best. The green Salsa is great but very Spicy. The Barbacoa Caldo is really good. Service = Excellent Price = 89 pesos , very affordable! Love the place

Yelp
Best place to eat any type of caldo in San Cristóbal Chiapas . Very small place not a lot of tables so if you go here please expect a wait time . But it's worth it. Dint took a picture of the servings but go find out for your self not going to be disappointed.

Yelp
So here is my review of El Caldero. First impression: place looks neat and well taken care of. They are very attentive and friendly. Pretty awesome atmosphere. I ordered the "caldo de mole" I believe is called. Great flavor and plenty of meat. My mother who was visiting with us, didn't like her caldo (maiz) and they quickly changed it for something of her liking without buts or whats!! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's visiting SCC. The mango smoothie was extraordinary!!

Yelp
The soups were clean and fresh although the pozole lacked in flavor. The service was pretty good. Presentation was good and the prices were great.

Yelp
The concept of this place is awesome... local food interpretaded as soups but it lacks taste and creativity. I went with my family and we order different dishes and every dish strangely were overspiced but unseasone, a bomb to the stomach for those who are weak to spicy food. Overall, I will recommend you going to this place only if you already taste every other place in san cristobal... I mean, it is not bad... but there are simplier more delicious food around

Yelp
We ate here our first night in san Cristóbal. Great environment, our server was funny and attentive. We tried their house special and it was a 2x1 deal that night. They have wifi as well. Prices are decent and affordable for what you get. I would eat here again.

Yelp
El Caldero serves big, hearty bowls of traditional Mexican-style soup! Go here for a cheap, cozy, belly-warming meal on a cold evening in San Cristobal, and you won't be disappointed. El Caldero was recommended on a backpacker's blog I read, so I decided to go with it since she raved about it and I am also backpacking and wanted to get a taste of the local flavor for a reasonable price. Also, it is centrally located, only one block from the main square. I was not disappointed by the filling bowl of chicken, potatoes, carrots, corn on the cob, and more I was served along with sides of avocado, onion, jalepeno, and sauce to spice it up (which I did sparingly). My husband enjoyed his beef and veggie-based bowl of steaming comfort and spiced it up to his liking. I was mostly excited that it was a healthier dish; I don't recall being "wow-ed" by the flavor, but it was good and I recall thinking I would return if in the mood for another bowl of soup while we were in San Cristobal. Needless to say, we were stuffed for the rest of the night and left happy!
