The Best Hotels in Oaxaca, Mexico

"Nestled in the colorful Jalatlaco neighborhood, this contemporary boutique emphasizes organic modern design and handcrafted furnishings made from natural materials. Spacious suites offer generous private outdoor patios and large windows for abundant light, while the communal courtyard provides a garden-like setting with winding paths and casual seating. Attentive service and included breakfast add to the comfortable, relaxed vibe; the hotel sits slightly north of the city center, in a quieter, more suburban pocket that’s still within walking distance of main attractions." - Austa Somvichian-Clausen Austa Somvichian-Clausen Austa Somvichian-Clausen is a travel and lifestyle journalist living in New York City. We have had a wonderful 5 night stay at El Callejón Hotel Boutique. The location is great as it is about a 10 minute walk from the main centre. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. Thank you to Romina and Roxana (lovely ladies at reception in the evenings) for helping us with Oaxaca recommendations and taxi bookings. Thank you for Victaliano and Jackmar for organising our room change and for being so kind and attentive! :) The rooms are gorgeous… there are little personal touches that make it feel luxurious and special (welcome cards from the housekeeper and hotel staff, chocolates etc.). We had breakfast included which was delicious every morning. We also had the best margarita cocktails at the hotel bar made by José!! Highly recommended for a Oaxaca stay.

We absolutely loved our stay at El Callejón! The building and grounds are beautiful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff was super helpful both onsite and with recommendations and services offsite. The location was perfect, within walking distance of everything. I highly recommend.

Recently returned from a trip to Oaxaca and stayed at El Callejon in a 2 bedroom suite. The hotel is a lovely mix of modern and traditional. Our suite was quiet, spacious, clean and well appointed. I would say that the bathroom for a suite this size should have 2 sinks given the size of the rooms but otherwise no complaints.||The staff is attentive and warm. The location is perfect and a close walk to all the sights. ||My only complaint is the coffee at breakfast is awful! This is an easy fix. |Definitely recommend a stay here.

Wanted to love this hotel, but the location next to event venue with extremely loud music killed all joy of vacation. We couldn't sleep, talked to front desk they basically can't do anything. Didn't offer us to change room or any compensation for ruined sleep. Would not recommend if you are looking for a quiet chill place. If you party till 2am and only go to hotel room to sleep it might work for you. Wifi signal and water pressure are also very low.

I don’t think it worths the price. It’s the most expensive in town $600- $700USD per night (almost Four Seasons price for lots of places) for my room but the room is cheap decor. It’s a bit off from town center as I wanted a quiet place. But unfortunately it was very noisy Sat. night until 2am. I think the service is good but not extraordinary that matched the price tag.

A true oasis! The design is stunning, blending modern aesthetics with local charm, and the rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience unforgettable. The peaceful courtyard and perfect location make it an ideal place to stay while exploring Oaxaca. it’s within walking distance to all the hustle and bustle of Oaxaca’s vibrant city life. Highly recommended!

They were very warm and attentive and helped make it a very special few days here.|Staff were very friendly, the rooms were very comfortable (we were in a junior suite) and the grounds are beautiful.|It was very relaxing and a good base to walk around Oaxaca. Poorly located - not near the centre. Hard to find - at the end of a lane which is blocked off. Right next to a night club which played extremely loud music from 6pm to the early hours of the morning and the staff were unhelpful. Could hear other guests. Food choice limited. Not value for 770 AU Dollars!
