The staff was overwhelmingly wonderful. The beds and pillows were incredible (I'd love to order some of those pillows!) Location was great, a few blocks from anything you need, beach, restaurants, etc. Restaurant attached was wonderful, and recommended restaurants in area were fantastic. Safe neighborhood. The hotel is in the midst of a merger with the hotel next door. That was a bit confusing for the taxi driver. The only negative was the elevator was not functional to catch on the way down. So, we had to walk down 4 flights, without a railing. I have bad knees and feet, so this was difficult. And we limited the number of times we had to go down the stairs, which cramped our style. They apologized up and down about the elevator, but, there was no offer to help with the bags or to at least help with the elevator the last morning.I recommend providing they fix the elevator, put in a railing in the stairwell, and offer assistance with bags under these sorts of circumstances.

First off you pay for what you get. This is a little gem of a hotel right on Condado beach. It’s a basic room with basic amenities but who’s staying in their room anyway? Staff were super friendly and helpful. No hidden fees or surcharges and we even extended for a night with no issues. I would stay here again. It serves it purpose.

Google
Positive: Hotel undergoing some renovations but we were not affected by anything. The room was clean & bed was comfy. Front desk clerk was very helpful as there was some confusion about payment of resort fee but everything was fine & fee was not double paid. Negative: The hotel was hard to find for our cab driver from the airport. The signage was not visible. We drove past the hotel a couple of times before our driver finally asked someone on street.

Google
Positive: Clean room. Bed comfortable. Just block away from beach and main strip. Restaurant very good. Staff very friendly and helpful Negative: Was not told that they were doing construction in hotel. Renovating room. Also TV did not work last day we were there. Construction noise disrupting. Woke up to the noise every day. Not pleasant. Asked for compensation but they only gave $50 off.

First let me begin by saying,,, Please don’t make the mistake I made. The photo onsite is nothing like when you get to hotel The room I first got was a disaster Looked like a very cheap hotel I could go on on on I will just share my photos that explains everything Let’s not mention how you must pay 43,00 a nite for services When you go to the restaurant If that’s what you can call it The waiter explained how if you using the voucher you must tip Really Anyway I am going to leave this crazy experience behind me I will never go back to. Puerto Rico Not worth the aggravation Thank you for reading my bad experience Remember not worth it Not to mention look at the lock on this room door. Who would feel safe. Sad but real

Google
Decent hotel for the price so close to the beach. However if you’re looking for a deal beware of the $40+ hidden fee and $25 parking. Renovations are underway but it’s not well done. The fixtures and tile in bathroom are still from many years ago. Our room door wouldn’t latch so we couldn’t lock our door when we left. Also random noises through the night like doors slamming and smoke alarms chirping with low battery. Just like a home away from home!

Google
Positive: I liked the $25.00 meal voucher every day. I like complimentary toiletries every time my room was cleaned. Negative: The bed was too hard. It hurt my back.

""

Google
Positive: The bed was very good Negative: When I tried to reach the hotel from the airport, their phone was off. There was no airport shuttle, and their was an additional $43 charge that showed up only after I had booked the room.

Yelp
If you are looking for a very simple accommodation in the Condado area, this will do. The hotel is small and clean. There are zero bells and whistles but it is comfortable. The air in the rooms is nice. The breakfast is okay. After two days of the same food we skipped it for the rest of our trip. The staff is only so so. I didn't find them to be incredibly helpful. Note: the pool is not on site. It is at the sister hotel next door. It is very small and probably not good for kids.

Yelp
BEWARE OF THIS PROPERTY. IT IS NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES. IT IS RUNDOWN AND NOT NICE AT ALL. IT IS IN CONDADO, BUT IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY. THE PICTURES ARE LIES AND FAKE. We booked based off the pictures on Orbitz.com and their own website. When we arrived in Puerto Rico we were excited to get to the hotel so we could unpack and get going into town. The first impression from outside made my wife very nervous. It looks rundown and shady from the front door. The site next door is an active construction site and the other building looks like it might fall down. I was met outside by the front desk person. He was very nice and had me come inside to get setup with our room. The inside was dark and looked nothing like the pictures online. The nice sitting area in the pictures wasn't there and it looked rundown. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and got the key from the gentleman. When I say key I mean actual brass key. Haven't seen one of these in years but hey it's Puerto Rico. I return to the Jeep to get my wife and daughter and all our luggage. While we wait for the elevator, my wife and daughter are looking around and getting very apprehensive about the hotel. Upon entering the room it turned out to be justified. The first thing that hit us was the overwhelming smell of chemicals. It was bad enough my wife started to cough and hold her chest, she has cancer. The bed closest to the window was harder than the floor! My daughter sat on the edge of the other bed, she weighs 95lbs, and the mattress completely compressed to the boxspring. We pulled up the sheets to look at the mattresses and they were completely shot/brokedown. They were not clean, let me rephrase that, they were dirty like they had been in use in a flop house for years. My daughter commented that, in her opinion, a prison cell looked nicer and would be more comfortable. The floors are epoxy chip painted. The walls are not clean, the drawers in the dresser and nights stand, which look like they are from a garage sale, were filthy with stains, chips and spots. We opened the door to the balcony and found an active construction site just a few feet from out window/balcony. Very loud and we were told they started very early in the mornings due to the heat. The bathroom, aside from the extremely strong chemical smell was clean. I would never expect Orbitz, Expedia or Hotels.com to allow a property to use such a fraudulent advertisement and pictures. I travel extensively for work and have never seen such a bait and switch setup like this. This is the kind of room you would find at a $30-$40 a night rundown motel in the worst part of town. When I spoke to the manager/front desk person, he stated very rudely that we would not be allowed a refund. That we were going to lose our money for checking out early and not staying. He was very arrogant about this and clearly didn't care that a guest was not happy with the accommodations. I called Orbitz.com about the situation and was assured that we would receive a refund for the situation we found ourselves in. We booked another room at the Marriott Courtyard Mirimar, at a considerably higher price. Later we were told by Orbitz that the property was refusing to refund our money for their lies and deception. I called my credit card company and immediately disputed the charges as fraud. I have made several calls to Orbitz.com and I am waiting for a callback from a supervisor. BEWARE OF THIS PROPERTY. IT IS NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES. IT IS RUNDOWN AND NOT NICE AT ALL. IT IS IN CONDADO, BUT IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY. THE PICTURES ARE LIES AND FAKE.

Yelp
Worst Hotel I ever stayed in. I understand that I paid a low budget hotel but that doesn't mean that it needs to be without care. THE HUMIDITY was INSANE. The DUST was insane. I got sick, allergies. The bleach odor at the bathroom was wow out of the place, like I've stayed in many low costs hotel but this one has been the worst ever. NEVER going back. even the elevator was creepy.

Egebert E.

Yelp
Made a reservation here and they tried to charge me an additional $150 on top of my reservation and $15 deposit. No refund was given even though I chose to stay at another hotel nearby and I explained that the additional $150 deposit was never disclosed. I would have even paid but front desk was rude and I decided to take my business elsewhere. Hopefully no one else goes through what I went through

Yelp
When I look for a hotel I aways read the reviews, my main concern is the cleanliness I was not disappointed the hotel is old but very well kept, sheets were clean And fresh, bathrooms and towels were to. The hotel is close to a Main Street were at night it lights up with music and people, great atmosphere. The beach is very close to walk there. The staff was very good as well, nice job girls! The free breakfast is coffee and variety of sweets. You can make some oatmeal with toast and bananas, delicious! That can hold you up till you go out on a walk and find a nice place to eat lunch. My over all experiences was very nice.

Yelp
I would have probably given them 3 stars if they had not added fees to my bill. I reserved 4 rooms for 7 people. About two weeks before the trip, I called the hotel and said that because there were 3 ladies they would like to stay in the same room. So, 2 single rooms, 1 with 2 people and 1 room with 3 people. The receptionist told me that would be no problem because they actually had assigned me to one room with a full sized bed and a twin bed. But when I arrived for check-in, the front desk manager, Monica said that we would be charged over $60 dollars even though the number of people did not change and the rooms we were assigned did not change. I complained at the time and at check-out but she was not very cordial and insisted on charging the extra fees. Otherwise, there are enough positive things about the hotel that I would have given a positive review. The location is difficult because of the narrow one-way streets, but it is close to several nice restaurants, shops, and a beautiful public beach. The parking garage is about a block away and is $17 per day. The hotel is very old and outdated with a tiny, slow elevator. The pillows are like sleeping on a rock. Housekeeping didn't clean my room one day even though I was out of my room all day. The "free" breakfast consists of some pastries and bananas or you can make oatmeal. The price is competitive but was still overpriced in my opinion. The front desk manager, Monica needs to take a course in customer service. I don't recommend the hotel.

Yelp
You pay for what you get with this hotel, great prices and modest amenities. Pros: - Really clean - extra pillows and blankets in the closet - ac - amazinngg location - kind staff - beach towels are available at the front desk Cons: - the continental breakfast is just packaged cereal, plain bread, and small pastries - the ac is very loud - you can't take breakfast food out of the hotel - housekeeping tried to clean our room at 8am while we were still sleeping. - no place to hang towels to dry

Yelp
I was a bit annoyed that check in was delayed by nearly an hour. I would have been less so if I was just arriving but I was slated to go home today but the snow in Chicago had other plans. I was tired of dragging my bag around and sitting on uncomfortable chairs. When the room was ready, I was pleasantly surprised. It was spacious and had a separate kitchen area outside the bedroom. It's basically a small apartment. I'm not that picky and the location is very close tot he beach and Ashford Ave, so it was a better choice than the nicer hotel I had farther away.

Yelp
My family and I stayed here the ending of August 2018 for a cruise. The hotel is 10 minutes from the airport(taxi costed $25) and from the hotel to the cruise port is 10 minutes. The staff is nice. The rooms are convenient (cozy). Breakfast is a grab and go. And don't forget to visit old San Juan. The restaurants are all in walking distance and the beach is 3 minutes away. While you are there please visit the restaurant "Cafe Del Angel".

Yelp
Since our visit in 2014, they've renovated! Lobby has changed and room 502, at least, has a very good a/c, new 'fridge and microwave and the bathroom looks great - they say the elevator is the next to get an update.

Yelp
This hotel is affordable and close to the beach. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. The inside is very clean although it is an older building. The owner was on site and even drove us to the beach. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The breakfast was continental but it was adequate. If your trip is to enjoy PR then get a room here and spend money on having fun.

Yelp
Hubby and I couldn't find any hotel room on the area and we came across this on AirBnb. We thought it's an apartment but it turns out to be a "hotel". We're staying 4 days in San Juan, and let's say I wish we can get a refund and leave here ASAP. Pros: -At FIRST glance, hotel seems clean -Front desk lady is nice -They let us leave our luggage at front desk before check in time (but then...all hotel should have that service) Cons: -There's no hot water in shower -Building is OLD -You can probably kick the room door and it will open on its own. I bought 2 portable alarms with me and I used them both. -Called to front desk about no hot water, they said they will send someone but no one show up -Rooms are not carpet (ok, with beach in the area...without carpet is easier to clean...but...must wear flip flop around) -Bathroom looks like public bathroom -Shower head is a joke -No hairdryer -Single packet shampoo -Dirty Service card left on table -Not enough lighting in room -It cost a $650 for 3 night and 4 days -I can go on and on.... DO NOT STAY HERE....I repeat....DO NOT STAY HERE. This is worse than Motel 6...

Yelp
Beat our Expectations! The expectation was quite low, given the price and the fact that it was a brief one night stopover prior to a cruise, however with a nice large bedroom, clean and tidy bathroom, powerful air conditioning and fast wifi, we were pleasantly surprised! The lobby and staff were excellent and helpful, and it was nice to have fresh brewed coffee and some breakfast prepared as a snack in the morning. I'd recommend this place, also for the fact that the location is near the beach but away from the noise and traffic.

Yelp
Great location... Great Staff.... Clean.... Coffee and Tea all day in lobby... Continental Breakfast is inc. A block away from the main strip in Condado ( ie: No noise... and 1/3 of the price of the Condado strip. For 20 plus years the Canario's have been the best( sure , i have tried others in the area but the overall value here is GREAT )hotels i have stayed in . The owner is on site... he is a great guy! Hans , Samantha and the rest of the staff are just down to earth good folks. This place is great! Jim R.

Yelp
Older Hotel, one block off the busy Condado strip. Concrete, tile and heavy doors make it a bit noisy. I was comfortable, felt safe and secure. Staff was responsive, helpful and polite. My room had 2 twin beds. OK for my solo trip, but I would have preferred a king like I am accustomed. Booked as an Orbitz airfare / hotel combination after I waited too late to book a conference hotel. I would stay here again but with a king size bed.

Michele W.

Yelp
Very nice trip. The rooms are very clean and the beds and linens are very nice. The staff is very accommodating and make you feel like you are right at home. This is a small hotel that is centrally located so that you can walk everywhere. Anyplace we couldn't walk, we took an Uber, which was really cheap and convenient. I've stayed all over Puerto Rico and this is by far my favorite place to stay.

Yelp
We booked AND PAID for a room with two double beds - and were given a room with just one bed. The receptionist said they were out of rooms. When we asked for a partial refund after check-out, we were told NO because we refused an "upgrade". Needless to say, we will not be back.

Yelp
We stayed here our first three nights in Puerto Rico. The hotel is located in Condado, off the busy Ashford Avenue. There is a bus stop a short walk from the hotel that connects to the B21 bus line (Old San Juan) for 75 cents. This proved a somewhat convenient form of travel: the buses run about every half hour, and we never had to wait too long for one to show up. The bus takes you to a terminal in Old San Juan where you can pick up a return bus. We weren't big fans of the location, since it necessitated the use of said bus. We would have been happier staying in Old San Juan, but the hotels I found there were either much more expensive or booked solid. My advice: plan more than 3 weeks in advance for hotels in the busy season. Anyway, aside from location/transportation hassle, it wasn't a bad hotel. The lobby was really cutely decorated. The rooms less so (identical paintings above the two beds, rather unwelcoming linoleum floor), but nothing wrong with them really. They showed a bit of age. However, I have a few complaints: the insulation was bad. Sounds from the street and from neighboring rooms and hallways carried easily into our room. It wasn't a big deal except for the fact that we were waking up pretty early while we were there, so it would have been good to have a room that was quiet by 9:00-10:00. Second, the shower never got hot. "Tepid" was about the best you could hope for. However, the service at the hotel was good, the people we spoke to at the front desk were helpful and the housekeeping service kept the place very clean. (We made a big mess of muddy towels and dirt in the shower after our caving trip -- we tipped the maid $10.) The wifi worked well and was easy to use, but had limited coverage - one side of the double bed was significantly better than the other. The balcony looked out onto a fairly urban view, but was a nice touch. Continental breakfast was bananas, apples, cereal, milk, OJ, donuts (in short supply), bread and butter, assorted pastries. Served in a somewhat stuffy little room off the lobby from 7:00-10:30. It's not a bad bargain for the San Juan area, but if you're looking for a more luxurious vacation I'd stay elsewhere. It was fine for us, though, so I give it a perfectly acceptable 3 stars.

Rene B.

Yelp
Knowing the area, having lived and grown in Puerto Rico, El Canario is at the best location for those who want to be near restaurants, beaches and fun places to go. Near Casinos and regular transportation. A short bus or taxi ride from Old San Juan. If you need a rental car, they will help you find a rental at a discount for those staying at the Canario Hotel Rooms are clean, good air conditioning, good services and attentive personnel. I will make this my place to stay at when I visit Puerto Rico again.

Destiny W.

Yelp
We stayed here for four days and I would honestly stay here again. The location is perfect only a 3 min walk to the beach and to a bunch of restaurants. The only location issue would be is that they are doing construction and the building might block the view from the hotel in the future. They offered complementary breakfast everyday but when we read that online I expected a full authentic Puerto Rican breakfast but thats not what it was. It's fruits, breads, and pastries with coffee, water, and orange juice. I didn`t mind the light breakfast because it was great when going to the beach or airport early in the morning. Also, breakfast ends at 9am or 10am so remember to wake up early! The staffs very kind and answered our annoying tourist questions. Another issue, is that you aren't allowed to have guests in your room. This made me feel like I was in a college dorm and not on vacation. Our friend even was questioned when they thought he was a guest even though we had been staying there for a couple of days. With that aside I would definitely stay again, the rooms were very clean and he showers were wonderful!

Casey Y.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were planning our first trip to Puerto Rico and found this little gem while looking for places to stay. We didn't know what to expect but the prices were reasonable and they had good reviews. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by such a friendly staff. Got to our room which was perfectly clean and tidy, and each day after during our stay. My boyfriend will tell you his favorite part about coming back to the room after housekeeping was that the room always smelled amazing. Loved that they had the continental breakfast each morning. Nothing fancy but just enough to fill us up to start our day. Now, not only was everything about inside this hotel was phenomenal, but the location was perfect!! It's located right behind the main strip. Right around the corner from the beaches and restaurants and bars. Truly a hidden gem. We didn't even need a car the whole time we were here. I will definitely book here again when I come back....with friends!

Yelp
First of all I like to say that these hotel is dirty and very small , only rooms have ac and hallways or downstairs does not , We stayed in this hotel for about a week . The cleaning lady stole our electronic item was $200 speaker , jbl flip , I understand I should have put it in a safe or somewhere private but the hotel doesn't have safe in the room with a lock . The safe doesn't have lock . I went down stairs to complain to worker she called the manager and manager tells me she knows the cleaning lady for over 30 years and she doesn't need a speaker and he is tired because he worked over 12 hour shift and he just got home .i just want them to look at the camera and call the cleaning lady . And they didn't do that so far he will do it later I assume when he is tired . I am very disappointed in my self for booking this hotel . If u lose your item and you ask the manager and he tell you he knows the cleaning lady that means they are working together .

Carrie P.

Yelp
Like other reviewers, I booked and even called a week ahead to confirm a twin room ...and ended up with a room with one bed. The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful when I asked to change rooms. There was someone sleeping in the stairwell on a rollaway bed the next morning. Do NOT stay here or give them your money.
