On the Grid : Brass Taps Pizza Pub

"If you're looking for a more down to earth bar, try Brass Taps. Great place to start or end the night as they serve a variety of excellent pub food and pizza as well as a good selection of locally brewed beers. It's quite lovely with a lot of original wood styling and cozy booths to settle into and enjoy an after meal drink. Talk over food, talk over drink or talk trash over pool and the arcade, as the space is perfect for just hanging out and getting to know everyone a lot better!" - Kev Seto

Sadly I cannot recommend this place at all. It's just not good Mexican food. There are numerous better options when it comes to Mexican food that this place. Unfortunately, we were walking along Danforth and decided to give it a try. Dirty water jar and glasses to start with. We ordered a Ceviche and it's probably the worst ceviche I have ever had, super salty. We also ordered mix tacos. Do not recommend. They are super greasy to start with (the taco tortilla is slightly fried here) and somehow flavorless at the same time. The salsas are nothing special, they don't make the tacos better. Because the taco tortillas are somehow fried, after a minute they start getting hard and greasy at the same time. It's disappointing because the place looks like it has potential but with so many Mexican options out there I'd never recommend or go there again.

Had a great time at this Mexican spot! I tried the tacos and the Aztec soup — both were full of flavor. The tacos were fresh and well-seasoned, and the Aztec soup was rich and comforting Definitely coming back to try more!

We come here every year for our anniversary on the day of the Dead and we have loved it from the first time and every time is always great to come back 🤍 food is always delicious, great service and amazing atmosphere. This time Ana was amazing and so lovely. Always checking in on us and very helpful. We look forward to keep coming here for the years to come 🕯💀🤍

I've been to El Charro a few times, and definitely my favourite Mexican place on the Danforth! The atmosphere is wonderful with beautiful art and the service, food and drinks have always been fantastic. On our most recent visit, my wife and I split a couple of orders of tacos and each had a large margarita, a perfect patio lunch on a summer day!

Google
tried this restaurant on a whim and let me tell you the food is absolutely delicious!! mexicans know what’s good, literally deserves a place in my top 3 favourite cuisines!! we ordered choriqueso and birria tacos and the portions were not at all disappointing. finished off with fried vanilla icecream. So so good!! also tried their classic michelada and mango margarita which was again delish. our server, Olessia was wonderful. definitely will be back <3

We decided to check it out after a show down the street and weren't disappointed. Great margaritas and birria. They accomodated my husband's cilantro adversion. We sat on the patio on a busy Saturday night and it was great to watch the Danforth night life. Service was good.

Yelp
$26 for 4 tacos de birria seems overpriced IMHO. They were alright. Nothing to write home about. I left the restaurant with my belly full but I can't say that I would want to come back. Having large flat screen TVs broadcasting baseball was odd to me, considering that it's meant to be a Mexican restaurant. When you're going out to a Mexican restaurant, the last thing you want is to sit there and watch a baseball game on mute. Who does that? Very odd. The owners could've gone for a more authentic Mexican experience instead of making it seem like a sports bar. As such, I did not like the atmosphere. There was nothing Mexican about it. Service was alright. Nothing special or extraordinary and yet, of course, they expected a tip. I'm tired of the tipping culture in Toronto. Service is usually mediocre or ordinary, and yet they expect a 15-20% tip. Why should I tip for ordinary service when it's the employer's responsibility to pay his staff a living wage. Servers should not rely on the generosity of patrons. We should adopt the VAT system similar to how they do it in France, where tipping is not required. This also entails a higher hourly wage than the current one.

Yelp
We had a lovely meal here. It was during the week so it was quite quiet. Service was great, the staff are very knowledgeable about the menu. Quite a few wonderful options. The margaritas are excellent, as are the tacos and other dishes. Recommend the dulce de leche cake, but I would pass on the deep fried ice cream next time. It just didn't do it for me. Being located right on the Danforth, you're pretty much limited to street parking, with a few lots nearby. TTC stops are also not far.

Yelp
Newly opened Mexican spot right smack in the middle of the Danforth. While the original El Charro still stands on Broadview, that spot seems like a stall compared to this location. Huge space that's great for big groups (while we were there, they were setting up for a quinceañera), piped music and neon lights to set the festive mood, and comfy booths to drink the night away with friends, El Charro Danforth is ready to throw a party! The food though, is the same. While we expected a bigger menu at this bigger location, this still has the classic El Charro fare - greasy goodness from it's assortment of delicious dishes. Went here for lunch and got: - Nachos: This was looooaded. Also, huge portion size for $15. - Carne Asada Fajitas: This was a tad disappointing since the beef was a bit tough. But again, huge portion size, generous sides, and the beef itself was tasty. - Pescado Burrito: They cut the burrito on half and it stayed opening up and spillongnvier, so not the easiest to eat. That said, they fish was fried and battered well, the tortilla was soft and chewy, and again those tasty nachos. El Charro is a great alternative to the bars/pubs and Greek spots thah dominate the heart of the Danforth. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood!

Yelp
Had such a great time at El Charro. The restaurant is very cute and the staff is so friendly. It was definitely a comfortable dining experience and will be back again! I ordered the birria tacos. The food came out fast and I have to say it was DELICIOUS! Best taco I've had so far. Even better with the hot sauce. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Meeting a friend there because friend wanted Mexican food. All and all food was over priced and under-delivered. My husband ordered an house red wine costed 15 bucks and was terrible. I asked for a hot green tea, it came to be black tea, when I confronted the waitress, she said it is orange tea, it is orangepeko? She doesn't tell the difference. The restaurant wasn't busy at all. Yet, the two waitresses are not always paying attention to us. We always have to wave for awhile to get service. The bathroom was less than clean and it was stinky. My friend was joking: it just like a real Mexican bathroom. We are NOT coming back here.

Yelp
Ordered a burrito. Worst I've ever eaten. There was no guac, and it was like 70% iceberg lettuce. V. Sad meal.

Yelp
While the food is delicious, this place is a bit of a hot mess when it comes to menus and careless about accuracy. I find that every time there's something wrong or missing from my food. And the printed menu is very different from the food delivery app versions (i.e. quesadillas are completely missing from the apps) and it especially differs in the details about what is served with a dish. I usually get the el pastor burrito and it's been missing pineapple every time. And another time it was carnitas instead of el pastor. Not a big deal but very annoying. When I order the ahogado burrito that's when it varies so much I can't even guess what it's going to be. According to the print menu, it's supposed to come with guacamole and crispy tortillas. The food app menu says it's served with salad. I've never gotten either one when I've ordered, and unless I ask for the salsa on the side, there isn't any so I've paid 6 dollars extra for nothing. EVERY TIME. I'm not even an optimistic person so I'm not ordering in the hope that one day they'll get it right. I just really like their food and the ceviche is my fav so I keep punishing myself with their chaotic neutral approach to making food. Anyway the baja taco was disgusting so don't order that.

Yelp
Pretty bad. I lived in Southern California for 9 years & South Texas for 6. I know they're not Mexico, but the presence there is ubiquitous & there's real Mexican restaurants everywhere. I was looking on the menu for a michelada & asked the server if they could make one; no. What kind of Mexican restaurant can't make a michelada? So I ordered a Rumchata - horchata & 1 1/2 oz of rum. It came in a small old fashioned glass. There was no taste of rum at all in that drink. 1 1/2 oz in a glass that small would be very noticeable. So they'll cheat you on your drinks. It was Saturday morning, so I was looking for huevos rancheros. They don't do breakfast, but they have eggs. Server said that he could ask the cook to add an egg on top of chilaquiles?!?! Got a shrimp burrito. $ 20.00 for this. And it arrived cold. So I sent it back. The server returned with the burrito. They didn't make a fresh one, just reheated it. They burnt the outside of the tortilla but the inside was still cold. Sent it back & asked for my bill & left. Save your money. Go somewhere else.

Yelp
Was walking with the hubby along Danforth and noticed El Charro had opened a second location. This one is a lot bigger though and has a very fun atmosphere. We stopped by for lunch and got their special for the day (nachos, which had a lot of fillings), carne asada fajitas (the beef was too salty) and fish taco (tasty). Service was really friendly and efficient. The space itself was big (no problem with social distancing here). Overall, El Charro was a good Mexican restaurant and I would recommend it!

Yelp
Service was friendly and efficient! Margarita's were very good! Shared nanchos with my partner and those were yummy. Will definitely come back to try the rest of their menu

Yelp
Just walking by and came in with the husband. Overall atmosphere is fine for a Mexican restaurant, the staff is nice and coke is served in a bottle which is always good. I will say the food wasnt that good, I felt the ingredients weren't as fresh as other Mexican restaurants. However, if you're just hungry and need a quick bite this place is fine.

Yelp
Amazing place! Live Mexican music on Saturdays. Service was incredible. Food was amazing. Felt like I was in Mexico on vacation. Will come here again for sure.
